Visited on 07.03. Took my mam here on a day trip to Whitby. Have been here a couple of times before and loved it so decided to introduce it to my mam who had never been (she's loves Fisherman's Wife). And it didn't disappoint. My mam and I had a small cod and chips, which wasn't small at all! More like a regular. The cod tasted fresh and the chips were delicious. My partner had the battered prawns and fish bites; he said the prawns were okay but the fish was delicious and when we go again, he'd just get the fish. Service was really good. The staff were friendly and attentive but not overly in your face. Would absolutely recommend.

I had a regular haddock chips and mushy peas. When it came I thought the portion size for the chips was a little sparce but infact it was just right without feeling stuffed and waddling away. The chips were good, the peas were good but the fish was excellent, the batter was so good and the fish flakey without being wet. Personal choice but I think Trenchers just wins it over the magpie, but only just. Both very good

We hadn’t been to Whitby for over 20 years. Decided to spend the day and have the renowned Whitby fish and chips. Reviews stated these were the best in the town. We were not disappointed. After a few minutes wait to be seated ( busy). Shown to a large booth for the four of us. Staff were lovely, very helpful and polite. Food arrived within 10 mins and was excellent. My wife ordered a regular fish which seemed a decent size to us. Part way through another fish was delivered to table as waitress thought my wife’s was to small. Needless to say we all left stuffed. Excellent food and service. 👍

Sadly this one star comes not from the fish and chips but the bull dust that was told to us to explain my warm pint of IPA beer was in fact correct. Ie a pale ale apparently is chilled at a warmer temperature than a dark ale. I beg to differ, and so does Google. When the bill was bought to us, and we sat our credit card next to the warm untouched beer which we had previously questioned, no acknowledgment was made at all even though they knew we were not happy.

Two lovely meals on successive nights. The cod was creamy, sweet, succulent, the haddock denser, more fishy, the halibut (lightly floured rather than battered) gorgeous. We were looking for a great fish and chip restaurant to eat in, in whitby whilst on holiday this february . Walking around the town we asked a couple of people who all recommended Trenchers so off we went. We had a mobility scooter which was no problem to take in . There was a lift to accommodate access to the toilets ( vital for the less abled). The staff were friendly, helpful and explained the portion sizes as we wanted starters too!. The blackboard told us where the catch had come from that day and who supplied the potatoes . The meal was perfect!! Excellent fish and seafood with perfect batter. Crab and prawn starters lovely. Have been coming to Whitby for several years and somehow hadn’t seen this place. From the outset the staff were so pleasant and accommodating. We all chose the Cod and Chips with sides of mushy peas, the food came in good time and was freshly made and lovely and hot. Chips were beautifully cooked with a light fluffy inner and the fish had a tasty crispy light batter. Mushy Peas too were delicious. My server was KAREN D and I have to say that she made my visit so much the better. She was extremely helpful and made sure my order was exactly as I wanted it and was very helpful friendly and cheerful, I don’t think that I could have asked or received any better service (Thank You KAREN D). The food was perfect (fish, chips and mushy peas, followed by apple crumble and custard). The experience was wonderful and I can’t wait until I can manage another trip to Whitby. Chips were exactly to my taste - crispy on the outside, soft inside, not greasy and again generous. Apple crumble was just like homemade- real slices of apple - more generous than could eat.
