C.J.'s Fish and Chips in Scarborough

A must visit for Fish and Chips , lovely friendly staff , very accommodating and pleasant, we live in a fishing town and was visiting for the day and this was fabulous fish and chips , very fresh and just the best chips ever , I honestly don’t know why people leave negative reviews , this is proper fish and chips cooked to perfection, there was 13 of us and everything was spot on , thank you , we will be back .

Visited afew times before. Went with the grandchildren. Had a fish special which was really good and kids meals which they enjoyed the fish and sausage. Decent glass of milk for the kids. Nice friendly atmosphere and good service. Dog friendly which is great

Wonderful Fish and chips at a great price with all the trimmings at a great price. Had to wait for a table as it is not very big inside but worth the wait, Dog friendly too, beats sitting in the cold as is the norm when you have a pooch in tow.

Called in on a Thursday teatime, it was not too busy. The chips were awful. Greasy and cold; the worst I have ever tasted. Fish was OK.

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice and well priced this place was. Fish chips bread curry sauce and a cup of tea £12 each to eat in. They could do with working on their chips a bit but the fish was one of the best we have had in years. Definitely will return.

Been a couple of times before and usually have no issues but today the chips were the worst chips I’ve ever had in and fish n chip shop in the country. They should not have been served they were that bad… we took them wrapped and didn’t realise how inedible they were until home else we would have gone back to them to get our money back. Hopefully it was a one off! But doesn’t take away from the fact chips this bad should not have been detected in the first place!

Beautiful fish and chips. Wonderful accomodating staff. Ridiculously fast service. I couldn't knock CJ's down to a 4* for this but I do think a premium tomato sauce on tables and a quality tartare sauce would be better than the mini packets. If you're cooking up the best fish and chips in the area I'd match it with those 2 essentials :)

This was probably they best fish and chips we have had in a long time . Can’t fault the food in any way. Waitress spot on ! If I had any criticism (and it don’t affect my enjoyment ) it would be the very loud lady behind the counter who shouted the whole time we were there,

Wonderful fish and chips good price

We have just had 2 portions of small fish and chips and they were amazing, the fish is so white the batter was just how I like it, but I have never had a fish as good as these. The staff were really friendly. I fully recommend this fish and chip shop.

Really good and friendly staff but they DON’T do Gluten Free fish. We went here because one of the other reviews said they offered GF but it was a bit of a wasted journey for my partner who can’t eat gluten.

These are the BEST fish and chips I've had on the east coast for a long time!! Enjoyed them immensely. Also - the staff were really nice and helpful

The fish was delish, chips were mediocre and peas were quite bland, nothing a shake of salt won't fix. My problem with this place is my cup of tea came in a cup that had not been washed properly, not good!

Absolutely gorgeous, tasty fish and Chips. So good we had them two evenings on the run. My husband had jumbo sausages & chips. The chips were the best we have ever had anywhere before. So good I forgot to take a photo.

Wow! Quite literally the best fish and chips we have ever had. We very nearly missed this gem too, having picked out a fish restaurant nearby, but on arrival they didn’t accept dogs. This worked massively in our favour as CJ’s welcome dogs with open arms and I can’t imagine we could have tasted fish and chips any better than we had here. We’re telling everyone we know to head to Filey and eat at CJ’s! We’ll be back.

Fish in particular was excellent

Just had tea here with our large noisy family consisting off adults dogs and children,, we were made incredibly welcome and not made to feel like we were in the way or spoiling the ambience. The food was great aswell, delicious fish and chips,, and the kids got complimentary biscuits and the dogs complimentary sausages! Definitely recommend this fish and chip cafe in Filey, warm and welcoming .

Lovely little fish bar ,great staff and fantastic tasty fish , also do take away . So if you visit Filey and fancy a fish C.Js is the place .

Another lovely experience. Very traditional Fish and Chip restaurant serving delicious FRESH fish. You can really tell the difference between freshly landed fish and fish which has been frozen. This has become our 'go to' whenever we're in Filey and we're very much looking forward to our next visit.

Amazing fish and chips, best we've had in a long time! Lovely cafe, friendly staff too. Returned to Filey, Ten years absence, A lot of Fish and Chip shops to choose from try these, you won't be disappointed gorgeous Fish & Chips, cooked in beef dripping, I can't recommend this enough.

On the plus side staff were friendly and nice. When ordering the staff member was helpful and approachable. Fish and chips were hot. Special included bread and butter and cups of tea. But I'm sorry! the fish and chips was not nice. The chips were soft, most were made with green potatos. So we will not be using again. The fish was OK but sat in a pool of oil. Its a shame as the place is comfortable and friendly.

Tried takeaway for the first time and will not repeat the experience. It is just lazy to serve black rotten potatoes in with the normal chips as the staff have obviously seen them when serving up. Why not remove them? The chips were soggy and...

My wife and I had large fish and chips to take away. It was the worst I have had. The fish was dry and some chips were black. I complained and received no apology. Will definitely not be returning.

Lovely friendly staff. Dog friendly and even gave our 2 dogs some chopped sausage. Food was exceptional fish was so fresh and value for money. Huge portion will satisfy hungry bellies. The only thing that partially put a dampner on our visit was a totally miserable couple who saw fit to look down their noses and even gave my other half the most filthiest off looks just because we had dogs. This miserable sour face couple even complained about the dogs even though our dogs were well behaved and quiet. Miserable couple however missed the sign on the door stating that the restaurant is dog friendly and furthermore the steel water bowls provided for dogs. Me thinks miserable couple need to go to specsavers as they clearly cant see miserable people. But hey ho the staff were so friendly with people like that in this world perhaps there should more signs warning " No miserable old badgers"

Would like to thank all at CJs - they opened up the dining area just for us (two families with kids) as the fish restaurant around the corner let us down as I had called to check ahead of time but when we arrived they said they were closing. Anyhow the fish and chips were spot on… great batter, good fish and the chips were spot on too. Staff all very welcoming and after we left one of the ladies caught up with us down the road as my daughter had left her lip balm! Two very great full and happy families!

Very dissapointed after seeing the reviews we went out our way to try this place. The fish and scampi were nice but the chips were awfull and the peas were warm . There were flies everywhere and a staffi dog was allowed to roam around sniffing at the edge of tables licking our legs we were made to feel very uncomfortable and made worse because my husband is allergic to dogs. Also young man from kitchen kept coming out and making a big fuss of the dog then going in and out of kitchen i assume a prep area because he carried out a bucket of chips. We feel sorry we have had to leave a bad review it is not something we like to do.
