Royal Fisheries in Scarborough

Been here before a while ago and loved the food here so came back for another visit. Found the fish and chips was very good, but felt the batter was a bit light and the chips were good but not great, still a good fish and chips overall. Service and prices were brilliant.

Been going there for over 25yrs never ever changes food excellent service always with a smile was a bit quiet due to the end of year

Pequeño eglefino para mi esposa y una gran porción para mí. Hermosamente cocinado con masa crujiente, patatas fritas arrugadas, deliciosos guisantes con un delicado sabor ahumado, pan y mantequilla, regado con una olla de té. El restaurante está limpio y el personal de espera es atento. Nuestro nuevo lugar de “ir a” cuando visitamos Whitby.

Fish chips mushy peas slice of bread and butter and pot of tea reasonable priced .very light batter and fish lovely and white .excellent service and staff very polite and caring

Fish & chips used to be really nice here, been in today and they were tastless,i dont know if they have changed what they cook them in,also the horrible brown box is flimsy and ends up very greasy.

This is the second review that I have posted for Royal fish shop. Called in today 02/11/2024 and ordered Three Haddock and chips and asked for the skin taking off before cooking The staff were only too pleased to do this for me.... Result the best fish and chips EVER. My Son and Daughter in law totally agree. Thank you Royal.

It is a good place with nice food but very slow service due to a single employee working serving and more but it was nice

After living in Whitby from the age of 7 until I was 15 years old. I once travelled from Germany 🇩🇪 for my favourite Fish & Chips * * * * * hundreds of miles but worth it.

I have actually tried every fish and chip shop in Whitby since moving here 5 years ago and can now safely say that Royal Fisheries is definitely my fav by a long mile and they don't take the Michael with their prices. Never had a bad meal there. 2024 Update: After 10 years living in Whitby and then moving overseas a year ago; I've popped into Royal Fishertiea for a sit down meal and as always, it was outstanding. The cod was really tasty and the portion was overall spot on! All the staff are mega friendly and obviously work hard to keep the standards high in a very competitive restaurant/take away sector in Whitby.

Nice little chippy. Got a small fish and chips to take out, which came to £8.30 which I thought was brilliant as it's cheaper than a lot of the other chippies. To say it was a small portion, I found it very filling. Can't grumble.

I heard this was the best fish and chip restaurant in town, so was happy give it a try. Perhaps not as prominently situated as some of its competitors, but still relatively easy to find. We ordered cod and chips, and that's what we got. Tasted good.

We liked this place a lot. The fish and chips were spot on. Same price as all the others in town, for the food, there's obviously a cartel going on here in Whitby,, But we got a bottle of wine and this was priced really well. And Friday at 6 30, we walked straight in. Big advantage. Give the long queues at Magpie and Trenchers a miss and try this place, it's great.

Personal amable y encantador. Un poco cortos de taquigrafía, pero aun así fueron educados, informativos y muy trabajadores. Delicioso fish & chips. Excelente precio de la comida. Un nuevo hallazgo para nosotros. Volveremos. Mientras estábamos allí, fuimos testigos de algunos clientes muy groseros. El personal no merecía la actitud que obtuvieron de ellos. Por suerte, se fueron. El personal todavía se mantuvo educado y profesional. Un crédito a sus empleadores.

We visited Whitby for the day whilst staying in Scarborough and decided to call here for lunch. The cafe is nicely decorated and clean, including the toilets. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was very nice and well presented. Would call again and recommended!

Beautiful fish and chips, spot on both times we ate there. Friendly staff and very reasonably priced. What more do you need.

Diabolical service. Three of us elderly gentlemen came for a reunion on a recommendation. Waited to be served and totally ignored by a girl at the counter and an older woman walking round. Very few people dining in and eventually the older woman came up to us making no eye contact and was the most surly rude individual. I asked that we be seated away from the awful noise that was being made by someone working on a gate outside and she pointed to a table we could use and some others saying you can’t sit there. The three of us were taken back by the absolute ignorance of this woman and we decided to leave and go to Trenchers, a place with friendly staff, ambience and similar prices as we found out. Needless to say, we will never be going there again and will never recommend the place except as a place to avoid. So disappointing!

I would highly recommend eating fish and chips here. We didn't need to que to be seated. The food was superb at a very reasonable price and the decor was comfortable. Disabled access was good if needed with access to a disabled toilet too. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I was really disappointed with fish and chips after being recommended by most locals. It was so oily, and soggy. I ate mostly a batter without fish. There wasn’t much fish although I ordered the big portion. The chips were oily too. Sorry but it wasn’t up to expectations.

Randomly chose this place… When I saw “crinkle cut” chips I was initially disappointed, but I have to say they were the best chips I’ve had in a long while! My opinion on ‘crinkle cut’ has now been changed! 😂 This peas were tasty, and fish was perfectly crisp and flavourful. Thanks. Defo coming back 👍🏻

Best for fish and chips in Whitby I use to come here when I lived in Whitby and it was called fuscos I think most locals tend to use here.

Best Scampi I've ever eaten, and their gravy was really meaty which was fantastic. Definitely worth a visit.

I'd been guided to this very well present takeaway. Good reveiws all around. What can I say 🤦‍♂️ Guys if you dont enjoy your job or the atmosphere is stressful STOP DOING IT!!! We asked the counter staff if they could rap the food in paper because we had quite a walk b4 getting home, where we planned on eating our dinner. The plastic boxes ( which the food was thrown 😱 in ) are a waste OF MONEY LESS ECO FRIENDLY AND A LITTER ISSUES. The food goes cold and stodgy come on its not a lot to ask for. Cheer up respect your customers or to be quite honest DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT 🙆🏻‍♂️🙆🏻‍♂️🙆🏻‍♂️🙆🏻‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️👍

Real quality. I've been to whitby for many years and I really think they offer best fish & chips. Always freshly cooked really tasty & staff are very good.

Forget all the "famous" fish and chip restaurants in Whitty as this one is definitely the best. It's only a small restaurant but the quality is super and the Scampi was real and not extruded as in other restaurants and even lists the boat that the catch comes from. Portions are generous and the sparkling wine was at a good price compared to other restaurants, cheaper by as much as £8 per bottle. The fish was equally excellent. Best to book in advance. We had to go back for a second time before I left.

Absolutely perfect fish and chips in the restaurant and no queues like the other two better known ones, will definitely be back.

Absolutely delicious. We arrived very hungry and went for the 'Yorskhire Deal' which was a portion of fish and chips, bread and butter, mushy peas and a pot of tea. It was all cooked beautifully and served promptly. I would highly recommend this place!

Had small cod x chips fish was white and chunky batter was nice and light crinkle cut chips were not what i expect from a fish shop in saying that they were not to bad also enjoyed a pinapple ring with sweet chillie sauce only negitive for me was price thought it was on the expensive side for portion size at £13.45

We have tried many of the different Fish and Chip options in Whitby and having had lunch here today we think this is definitely one of the best in town. The fish was beautifully cooked in a light batter with tasty peas and delicious chips. Service was great .... well done Royal Fisheries !

We had cod and chips with mushy peas freshly fried with a light batter and it was I think one of the best fish and we have had so we will definitely go again and I am sure we will go to whitby again soon, Thanks Charles and sharon

Went on a day trip to Whitby decided to try Royal fisheries glad we did food, service, presentation 110% definitely would recommend 🍽

Had take away last night fish and chips were excellent and good size portions. Not cheap but nothing is in whitby. These were good

Hands down, the best takeaway Fish and Chips in Whitby. Had a great craic with staff whilst being served.

Haddock and chips was very tasty. Crispy, light batter. We don't like skin on fish so waiter told us it could be removed. It was and we thoroughly enjoyed it, with a bottle of reasonably priced wine! We would definitely go back.

Lovely fish and chips, just a little bit pricey

Soggy batter on the fish, wondering how you can get fish wrong and it would be this! Just leave it in for a couple of minutes more and don't worry about the queues, I'd rather wait longer for better food. Also the chips were bitty and full of dirt where they hadn't been peeled properly. Not a smile from anyone serving, very poor.

You won't find a better place for Cod and Chips. For £10.50, it is heaven on a plate. Portions are good and staff are really friendly. A friend of mine who sadly passed away highly recommended this place and his advice didn't dissapoint. RIP Peter x Bit hard to find, second side road to the left of you from the bus stop. But you wont be dissapointed. X

I have just received a scam call from this number. Someone claiming to be from 3 mobile. I have googled the number and these numbers match. You either have had your phone number stolen or a member of staff carrying out fraudulent activities. I tried to call as an alert but there was no answer so I am leaving this review as a warning to the restaurant. Not to patrons.

We had (small) Cod & Chips + Coleslaw + Scampi Side Absolutely perfectly made and great tasting - original feel and extremely pleasant service!

I always eat here, when in Whitby, I had something from the lite bit menu, battered scampi, chips, a salad, & delicious tartare sauce, large pot of strong tea, tasty food, all for £10!

Situated on Baxtergate this is one of the less attractive Fish n Chip shops in Whitby as it's not on the main drag where the Magpie cafe is situated. Do yourself a favour and pay this place a visit, the service is welcoming and excellent throughout, the Fish and Chips are great, I had the Cod and it was delicious, also the Curry sauce is about the best in the area. We sat in and dined but there is a takeaway option if you wish. We took advantage of the Special offer and got a slice of bread n butter and a cup of Yorkshire tea included in the price. Great value will visit again.

Brusk woman, no small portion of chips and fish was bitty and not nice. Felt a bit sick after eating half of it and partner ate next to nothing of his fish. Wouldn't go there again.

Called to inquire about if fried are in vegetarian oil, rude lady said don't want to talk to you , bye and hung up. Will not visit this establishment.

I had plaice and chips and it was the best fish and chips I've ever eaten and the Irish curry sauce is 👌 will definitely be back for more. Its worth the 2hr drive from where I live to come and eat

My wife and I have been to The Royal on several occasions, and we've always enjoyed it. Our most recent visit wasn't planned, but I'm certainly pleased we wandered up Baxtergate on 10th April. The issue for The Royal is its location. Being tucked away up a side street that probably only locals use means it doesn't benefit from the huge influx of tourists that invade Whitby, unlike the F&C shops on the main route, that are noted for queues outside, something I've never witnessed outside The Royal. Tourists standing outside the venue adjacent to the main roundabout should do themselves a favour and walk a couple of hundred yards down Baxtergate and enjoy F&C's of the same quality for a lower price. No, sod that, ignore everything I've written, don't anyone dare go to The Royal, leave it Whitby's best kept secret for us in the know.

Bus station side of town. Think it's baxtergate. Top side away from harbour. Brilliant service. Very clean shop. Plenty of seats (and tables of course). Busy during school holidays at lunch time but heh isn't everything. Ist time visit will be visiting again. Food. Plenty of food, well cooked and scrumpous batter.

The service was friendly and attentive but not necessarily that quick. Unfortunately the quality of the food (between us we had scampi, chips, fishcake and mushy peas) was not great and I think there are better alternatives very close by.

Always loved this chippy since I was a young child. The only place that uses crinkle cut chips. Brilliant fish, cooked perfectly and the service is always second to none.

One of the best fisheries in Whitby! Literally a hidden gem. As seen is a delicacy you have to try! The battered pineapple (fritter) with sweet chilli sauce. Also seen is a small and regular fish & chips.

You won’t get fresher or tastier fish & chips in Whitby & I’ve been coming here for years- it’s always consistent. These people go to great lengths to get the freshest fish available, which isn’t easy nowadays.

Although I've had many a tray of fish, chips and curry sauce from the takeaway of a Thursday Biker's night in Whitby, this was my first time dining in at the Royal Fisheries. I found the Small Cod Yorkshire Meal deal was perfect for my appetite on a mid winter's lunch time. The food was beautifully cooked and prepared and hats off to the 'front of house staff' who were particularly professional, attentive and friendly, a credit to the restaurant.
