Claudios Restaurant

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
26/09/2020: Having had a poor experience in Brodies earlier in the day we were not sure what to expect. However the service provided was excellent as was the food. Will visit again
25/09/2020: Loved this restaurant. A real buzz about it. Very busy. Is only open from 5.30 till 9pm during the week. Meals were reasonably priced. Lovely wine at a good price. My salmon was plentiful and the ice cream was excellent. Good service. Well worth booking if you’re in Moffat

The Steamboat Inn

Lochar, Dumfries & Galloway
09/10/2020: Superb situation on the Solway coast. Lunch menu superior to standard pub fare, the (real pastry!) beef & ale pie and haddock & prawn mornay were excellent. Interesting artefacts in the bar, and a mix of locals & visitors enjoying the atmosphere.
04/10/2020: We both really enjoyed our stay at The Steamboat and felt very safe with their covid-19 plans. We had tasty food and locally brewed ales. Thanks to Kate and team for a great weekend away. We can recommend the circular walk posted by the bus station but ensure you are not restricted by the tide.

Cavens Arms

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway
12/10/2020: Good wholesome Scottish food, with very friendly service. Very generous portions and a huge choice from the menu. Scrupulously clean too.
05/10/2020: I'm biased, but I love Cavens - even if I only get to go once a year. Fab range of real ales, and extensive menu not to be sniffed at. So booking by phone was novel - automated, but easy to do.Distanced table was ready for us, and staff attentive. I ordered the duck with saute pots. my partner the pie (always - she loves the pastry and filling). Sipped a nice ale while waiting for food. Duck came perfectly pink, with good skin. No trouble at all for an extra pot of gravy for the pie eater. Demolished the meal but too full for a pud. We had looked enviously at those being sent to other tables. Maybe next time. Cos we will be back!

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
27/10/2020: Nicely run restaurant. Just stopped for coffee and scone, but made very welcome and enjoyed being there. Place is very well kept and no issues with Covid restrictions
25/10/2020: Well set up place to go anytime but particularly during covid. Extremely well set up and you feel perfectly comfortable to go here. Well do you!! 👍

No. 1 Fleet Street

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway
22/09/2020: We ate here while staying at The Ship Inn. Covid precautions were first class. We saw the barman impressively challenge a group of three individuals from different households and refuse service. Cleaning was thorough. The food was tasty and service was friendly and very covid aware. My wife had the crab starter special which contained a generous portion of crab, while I had the scallop starter. For the entree my wife had the trout, which although tasty was a bit overdone and thus rather dry. I had the special saddle of local red deer, which was delicious and perfectly cooked. For dessert we had the bitter chocolate souffle which was okay.
21/09/2020: Great meal- from the start we had a clear knowledge of how things would be- the menu was simple but detailed- the table/ toilets/ card payment/ and all other items we might touch were sanitised either before or while we waited.Super meal - tasty and fantastic presentation plus great servicewish all could be like this

Lemon and Thyme Restaurant

Kelso and District, Scottish Borders
11/10/2020: We ate early one Saturday evening and both had the Chicken and Prawn Pad Thai. Quite frankly I could have licked the plate clean it was that tasty! Chocolate torte for pudding was also very yummy. Decent bottle of white wine which was not extortionatly priced too. We were served by a lovely friendly Ocadian waitress. I think they could probably make the interior a wee bit more cosy though, tablecloths would have been nice. Maybe because of Covid it is easier to keep it simple? We would definitely return when we are next in Kelso.
02/10/2020: The restaurant had put in place all the COVID safety measures to make us feel safe, and very welcome. The staff were friendly and fun. The meal was outstanding. We all had different dishes which meant that everyone was desperate to try each others! Overall a great evening. I would defiantly visit again - wish we more local!

24/09/2020: I booked a 2 night with 2 rooms for 4 guys, to explore and ride around the border. We arrived and the rooms were ready and absolutely excellent. Due to covid 19, everything was well worked and very safe.We booked a table for the evening meal, I can only say the food and service was of the highest quality, the following morning the breakfast was again the best quality with excellent service. Thanks to Alan and all the staff, we will be back soon for another lads trip. Bill

The Clachan Inn Restaurant

Castle Douglas and Glenkens, Dumfries & Galloway
06/10/2020: A return visit (last was August 2019) and just as good! Friendly staff (taking all necessary Covid restrictions) and efficient service. Excellent meals in a cosy atmosphere.

The Cafe Royal

Annandale South, Dumfries & Galloway, <20£
12/10/2020: Came here with my hubby and in laws as we do every time we are in Scotland!!We all had fish and chips and I had all their pots of tartare sauce lol.Everyones meal was delicious. Our fish was 1 fish and a half!!Batter melted in your mouth and the chips were "real"chips.Absolutely beautiful.Staff extremely pleasant and the dark haired pony tailed girl who served us was lovely and friendly.Covid rules adhered to extremely well too.Cant wait to go back!!!
05/10/2020: Popped in on a wet day for some fish and chips to take back to holiday cottage. Good distancing rules throughout. fish cooked fresh, and was amazed with the huge portion sizes. Added sausage & peas, and parcel included mayo, salt & vinegar. yummy. No wonder the carrier bag was so heavy. Cheered up my day. Top stuff. Oh and check out the personalised number plates!

The Horseshoe Inn

Tweeddale West, Scottish Borders, 45-60£
11/10/2020: We ate hear on consecutive nights and the six meals were all much enjoyed. From Venison to Fish and chips, Burgers that bore no resemblance to your average fast food and excellent steaks. Well presented, well prepared and well served.Covid compliance was thorough. Stewarts 80/- a great beer. Best of luck during the emergency, you deserve to continue to provide an excellent choice for the hungry traveller.
07/10/2020: Excellent Sunday lunch for our party of four with outstanding food, helpful and attentive service with full compliance with covid precautions observed at all times. The Sunday roast was a veritable feast with thickly sliced succulent beef, wonderful root vegetable selection, roast and mashed potatoes and a generously sized Yorkshire pudding in a particularly tasty gravy. My wife had the equally tasty fish pie with a similar selection of properly cooked vegetables. I had the baked rice with strawberry jam and cream for dessert while my wife settled for a generous and interesting cheeseboard. Given the quality and portion size I did not feel I was overcharged, although prices are higher than your usual pub grub outlets. The difference in the standard of cuisine though is like night and day, with the Horseshoe winning hands down every time for top class cooking and quality ingredients. Free parking is available at the rear of the inn, easily accessed from the main Edinburgh-Peebles road. Most enjoyable afternoon.

Loughs Home Bakery

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
03/10/2020: Small bakery with quality products at good prices. Very fresh. Didn’t sample the cakes but they looked amazing. Scones huge. Rolls lovely.
30/09/2020: Visited here by chance as was out for a stroll from the caravan park for rolls, bought enough for weekend plus vanilla slices and both were fantastic. We returned on the monday before we left for home for pies and bakes.

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
02/10/2020: We ordered from Dynasty last year whilst staying in Newton Stewart, and had to go again whilst on holidays again. Definitely recommend ordering in advance as they can be very busy. Absolutely gorgeous food, our fave place for a treat! The Garlic and Chilli prawns are stunning.. probably the best thing I’ve ever tasted! :) mmmm! Will definitely be ordering again before we go home. Thank you Dynasty!
15/09/2020: Unfortunately due to ill health, Dynasty is now doing a cut down menu. And only three days per week. Still doing my favourite spring roll. Mandy and her brothers are doin their very best to keep going. Had spring roll, bbq spare ribs, chicken Cantonese style, more than enough for two days. I’ll continue to wait till Mandy can fit me in for a meal. More than worth the wait.

Chapters Bistro

Leaderdale and Melrose, Scottish Borders
25/09/2020: Had a lovely dinner at Seasons. They were very good with their Covid safety systems and the food and service was superb. Food locally sourced and beautifuly prepared. Go - you'll not be disappointed.
21/09/2020: I booked this restaurant for a family meal to celebrate my husband’s birthday whilst we were on a trip to the Borders. The Steam Packet Inn

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
28/09/2020: The staff were friendly and reminded everyone of COVID one-way system etc. Our contact details were taken. The food was very good.
25/09/2020: The Steam Packet had an awesome range of real ales, many of them made locally, and the staff were well versed about them. The food was just as good, had the Cullen Skink to start with, nearly a meal in itself, but delicious. had a chicken and chorizo ciabatta as well, loaded with chorizo, again delicious. Hot chicke sald went down well too.
