Gala Tandoori

Galashiels and District, Scottish Borders
13/02/2020: It was OK. I’m afraid that OK is as high as it goes for me. I’m astonished that this restaurant is number one in the area when we have Seasons and the Hoebridge 5 mins up the road. Food was bland and needed more salt.
03/02/2020: As we were fond of this restaurant years back an in between we had stopped coming. But fine we are back again thanks to Audrey.

Claudios Restaurant

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
21/02/2020: Carry out of Pizzas, pasta garlic bread and focaccia was fantastic. Super thin pizza base, tasty toppings. Generous portion of creamy pasta. Focaccia was perfect. This is the second time we have had a carry out from Claudios whilst on holiday. Would love to eat in but not dog friendly which is a pity but still 5 star.
15/02/2020: (Traducido por Google) Muy bien volveremos (Original) Very nice will be going back

Brodies

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
21/02/2020: Food was tasty, service a little chaotic but young guys serving where helpful and funny. Would like to return for a lunch next time we visit.
20/02/2020: We went here for a family evening meal. The decor and atmosphere is stylish, yet cosy. There is a restaurant area and a lovely lounge area with comfy sofas and delicate lighting.

THE OLD SMITH

Abbey, Dumfries & Galloway
06/11/2019: Booked this for my mums birthday and despite being extremely busy all staff made sure this was a memorable experience for my mum. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was outstanding. We will definitely return next year.
01/11/2019: Popped in here for cake and drink after walking in area. Whilst not a large cake selection for vegan/dairy /gluten free, there were two full menus for vegan and gluten free covering breakfasts and lunches. Also various milk options. Staff were friendly and happy to help with our dietary needs. Very busy!

The Horseshoe Inn

Tweeddale West, Scottish Borders, 45-60£
18/02/2020: Have visited the Horeshoe on a number of occassions. Lovely venue, great cosy bar with good selction of drinks and very friendly staff. The restaurant serves consistantly good food and has a good varied menu.
04/02/2020: We were staying in Barony castle and chose to try the “ recommended “ Horseshoe Inn which is at the end of the castles driveway - a 5 minute or so walk away . The staff were friendly and although we had not booked , and the restaurant was busy and they had not any tables ready they were prepared to give us one in 30mins if we went to the bar where they kindly brought us the menu and allowed us to choose and then took us through once our table was ready and the food was excellent as the busy restaurant suggested it would be ! Well worth a visit apparently people had travelled from Edinburgh just for the fish ( freshly bought from Eyemouth ) ! But the menu was varied and every thing our party chose was excellent !

The Rialto

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
21/02/2020: Fresh brewed coffee, proper real coffee, not watery like the chains make. Great service, table service not queue for 30 mins before you get to serve yourself. Tea brewed exactly how you like it with fresh milk not plastic pots of UHT. Home baked scones fresh from the oven, big enough to make a meal of. So warm that the butter melts into the scone and the jam starts to drip, then you get to top it off with whipped cream, complete indulgence! The Rialto is a fantastic find for any traveller to Eyemouth.
17/02/2020: Had an excellent meal on Saturday 15th Feb, really excellent food and service. If you want to have an excellent coffee (‘the best outsides Naples’ according to my partner) or visit a place where their heart goes into the cooking, this is the place to visit!

Ebb Carr's

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
08/01/2020: Popped in for a late lunch after a bracing walk around st Abbs Head. The situation of the building is gorgeous, right by the harbour. The cafe itself isnt fancy in any way but dont be deceived! We were able to sit outside as, despite being early Jan, it was a lovely day. We sat overlooking the side of the harbour, very picturesque! Two things make this place - 1. the staff - super friendly and lovely manner and 2. The food. What more could you want. Two of us are coeliac - no problem - chowder to die for with g/f bread on the side and a g/f panini which was tasty. I had coffee (good) and to choose from the traybake selection was difficult so went for tunnocks teacake traybake - delice. All in all a great end to a lovely afternoon.
07/01/2020: It's always a warm and friendly welcome at The Ebb Carr's Cafe. The staff are always ready to give outstanding service with a lovely smile and a chat. The menu is full of lovely local food, all freshly prepared and presented beautifully. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Cullen Skink, it's delicious, real comfort food on a cloudy, grey day. The desserts and cakes are fabulous. A meal here is a real treat at little cost in a lovely part of the world.

10/02/2020: Been here with friends for lunch and it was a great place to be. Food was good, affordable and the restaurant was in a very old house. Staff very friendly
02/02/2020: This is the second time in a month that we have visited after an absence of about 3 years ! not disappointed the quality of the traditional Sunday roast Scottish Borders beef dinner with all the trimmings is nothing short of amazing, this is back as our 'goto' restaurant.

Castle Restaurant

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway
20/01/2020: Great find, hotel I was staying in was having kitchen renovations so had to find somewhere else. Excellent food, great hospitality and very very very generous with the amazing chips. Rest of the food was also outstanding. All down to chefs tricks of resting the meat.
29/12/2019: My husband and I had a meal here on Christmas eve. We were told what food was being cooked before we decided. My husband chose from the menu, a 2 course meal for £18, turkey dinner and cheese and biscuits. I had the excellent lamb dish, very tender with vegetables cooked just right, and roast spuds, mint gravy. My husband's turkey was cut really thick, and was so tender. We shared cheese and biscuits. The owner brought us a free drink each at the end. There was a party of eight in too , a family, i think who must have also booked early. The room is small, but certainly makes up for it in ambience, friendliness and excellent food served by 2 lovely waitresses.

ReadingLasses

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway, 20-30£
09/11/2019: ReadingLasses takes a lot of beating, soups are to die for, always delicious, cake's to blow your mind. Service is with a smile, and so helpful. Oh and the coffee is good too
30/10/2019: Popped into Reading Lasses on a brief trip through Wigtown. It's a nice little place where you can grab a cuppa and some cake while having a quick read of the many books if you're so inclined. I can't say much about the cake as I only bought a coffee, but the fact that you can chill out surrounded by interesting books is something all you book lovers will adore about the place. There are many rooms chock to the rafters with all manner of authors literary delights. Take a load off, grab a cuppa and a book, and enjoy the peace and quiet, you won't be disappointed.

The Plough Inn Leitholm

Mid Berwickshire, Scottish Borders, <20£
03/02/2020: Had a snack lunch at the Plough, it was delicious, home made soup was a hit with us all. Wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff.
02/02/2020: Called in last night to sample the updated menu. So glad we did - the Chicken Kiev with Parmentier Potatoes and Tenderstem Broccoli was DELICIOUS. The old favourites are still there - my husband had Fish and Chips and the batter was light and crispy, the fish beautifully cooked. No room for dessert sadly. Great atmosphere even given Scotland’s unlucky performance ☹️.

Cavens Arms

Nith, Dumfries & Galloway
18/02/2020: Lovely clean pub with nice atmosphere.Great staff and food tastes very fresh and lots of it. I'm a stickler for toilets and the ladies was absolutely immaculate. Have recommended it to people already. Will definitely be back to try something different, lots to choose from on menu.
12/02/2020: Visited Dumfries in January to visit a friends relative and we were looking for a bite to eat afterwards. Driving along the street we noted that Cavens Arms looked busy so stopped and walked over to have a look. There was a free table There was a football match showing on the TV so it was a little noisy. My freind has a few diet problems, but there was plenty of choice for her on the menu The portions were large, and sad to say neither of us managed to knock it all off. Stangely though freind did plish off a swee. Stange that issn't it!
