The Rialto

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
15/12/2017: Stopped of at the Rialto Coffee shop ,as a non coffee drinker I had the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted. The shop was a little cold at the front but the Hot Chocolate made up for it .
22/11/2017: What a lovely cafe! Cosy decor, friendliest welcome ever, good food, great coffee, amazing cakes homemade by the owner (or the ones we had were),artisan bread by a local baker. They even have loose leaf tea that came with a timer to make sure it was brewed to perfection. Definitely a place to visit if you're anywhere in the area.

Night Safe Bistro

Hawick and Hermitage, Scottish Borders
06/01/2018: The night safe, myself and my partner have dined here a few times now. It is our favorite local restaurant. In my opinion the night safe is just the right size and is able to offer diners the personal touch. The menu has a good offering, and unlike most restaurants there is always a choice of different soups, which are always delicious. The staff definitely help make this restaurant what it is and are always very polite and helpful. I always have three courses and enjoy them all. It is advisable to book as it is a popular place. One last thing ........bring back the trio of dessert’s I loved them lol
03/01/2018: This was a family lunch for seven which really was faultless, whether you opted for the lunch specials menu (which included four soups!) or else the main daytime menu. Main courses were beautifully presented and informally served by cheerful staff and Desserts were generously sized and very tasty

Campbell's Restaurant

Stranraer and North Rhins, Dumfries & Galloway
11/01/2018: We go to Campbell's every time we holiday in Portpatrick and that has be quite a few meals and lunches since it opened. Food as usual was delicious, service was usual great, what more can I say can't praise it enough .
04/01/2018: Been back to Campbell's again this week. Food is still good & it's still the best place, without a doubt, to eat in Portpatrick and surrounding areas. (Have tried Henry's Bay House in Stranraer and the Mount Stuart Hotel & Colfin Creamery, both in Portpatrick, since last review, and Campbell's still comes out on top).I still have the same criticisms as before - don't serve both chips & potatoes as routine accompaniments to every meal - either/or is fine. Also, lack of variety in the vegetable department is still a problem. And a salad side dish option included in the meal price, instead of potatoes, chips and veg would greatly enhance the menu. Portion sizes have reduced considerably. This is not a bad thing in itself, as prices have not risen either - so it leaves scope to have a starter or pudding, whereas before the amount of food served on the main course precluded either. And it's good to see a chef working to the market by not just increasing prices year-on-year.Just a by-word, though - don't have anything to do with any chicken dishes served here, as they are always overcooked and dry as dust. Anything else on the menu is good.

Townhead Hotel Bar Restaurant

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway, 20-30£
10/01/2018: We call in for dinner and a drink while staying with family nearby. The hotel has a very relaxed atmosphere, has been tastefully revamped. Some of the locals still hang around which is good for a laugh. Our meal was excellent, freshly prepared and presented well. Very filling.
30/12/2017: Staff were friendly but need to work on writing customers orders correctly. Update their Menu on website. Food quality needs improving.

Wheatsheaf Inn

Mid Berwickshire, Scottish Borders, 30-45£
27/12/2017: Myself and my husband just spent 3 wonderful days in this lovely friendly hotel. The owners Michael and Alan were absolutely lovely and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The room was beautiful and clean and we even had a complimentary christmas gift and card. The package included a mulled wine, cake 5 course meals, wine tasting and christmas lunch, a buffet was also laid on christmas evening. The food was the finest we have ever tasted, freshly cooked and presented to a very high standard. We most certainly never felt hungry. There was a lovely selection of fine wines and the entertainment added to the relaxing ambience of the whole stay. A thoroughly relaxing enjoyable christmas treat for us and well worth the reasonable cost. Thankyou wheatsheaf we will be back.
23/11/2017: Had a great weekend dinner, bed and breakfast at the Wheatsheaf with some friends last weekend and I must say how impressed we all were with the quality of the food, accommodation and service. Michael and his team are friendly and very professional in their approach to customer service and made us feel very special and welcome.A great venue and we will most certainly return........soon !

05/01/2018: One of the few local establishments open over the new year. Very passable pot of green tea and strawberry tart. Highly recommended. Especially if you wish to take a gift of some local preserves.

The Heathers Restaurant

East Berwickshire, Scottish Borders
15/12/2017: Had another great meal at "The Heathers" with my family. We all had a great culinary experience, from starters to desserts. The seafood was caught the same day and cooked to perfection. My wife is a vegetarian and had a delicious Nut Loaf, potatoes fresh vegetables and topped of with vegetarian gravy. The owner and staff were very friendly and attentive. The view from the wrap around windows was breathtaking - golf course, Eyemouth harbour, cliffs and sea. Have dined here several times now and have never been disappointed. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
27/11/2017: I have been going to Eyemouth all my life first as child with my parents then in my diving days and then with my wife and sons however never been to the golf club. This year we had a weeks holiday and it was like winning the lottery walking into Heathers restaurant and meeting George and his staff. The food is simply first class the views stunning and the hospitality second to none. And we will be back again and again and again.Well done George have and good Christmas and we will see you next year.

Brodies

Annandale North, Dumfries & Galloway
07/01/2018: My friend and I decided to have a day out to Moffat and Dumfries as a welcome post-new year outing. The weather was less than enticing but dried up sufficiently for us to go for a walk around the town before lunch. (We'd previously checked with the restaurant). When we returned, a bit chilled, we received a warm welcome and were shown swiftly to our table. I hadn't realised until that point that there were different lunch and dinner menus. My friend took the lentil soup with a club sandwich and salad, and I had re-fried beans and a gammon picnic pie with salad. The food was all very good quality and really delicious. The service was quick and friendly and I would certainly go back again to Brodie's for dinner.
06/01/2018: Over the years we have called off in Moffat on many occasions en route to and from the highlands. Until yesterday, we had never found a particularly good place to eat with our dog. That has certainly changed. We were treated to a very warm welcome and enjoyed delicious soup and fantastic white chocolate and beetroot cake. Brodies ticks every box for us and can’t wait to call in on our next trip north! Thank you.

The Selkirk Arms Bar, Bistro and Restaurant

Dee, Dumfries & Galloway, 30-45£
15/01/2018: Whilst most aspects of service were spot on whilst the food served was very disappointing. Wagyu burgers were contrarily dry and overdone. Salmon content of another dish was mean, scant and inadequate. We left feeling that the professionals in the kitchen could have cared less or they just didn’t know. There was no evidence of special expertise or sensitivity in the dishes offered and we could well have been better off staying at home.Mention of this elicited a very casual cursory response...with no feed back from the chef.
04/01/2018: This is without doubt our favourite place to eat in the Stewartry. Staff are always welcoming and friendly. Service is always superb and the whole place gives off a warm relaxing feeling with quality food to match. Menus change on a regular basis and there always something different to try if you like experimenting a little. They use local produce and local suppliers although a slight criticism would be that they use Dalbeattie for their meat when there is an excellent butcher in the town which has recently changed hands and would deserve a chance. That aside the Selkirk ticks all the boxes for me.

The Steamboat Inn

Lochar, Dumfries & Galloway
14/01/2018: We were lucky to get a table here for lunch on New Years Eve and even luckier to find a parking spot! This is a lovely pub with quirky decor, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. The food was just 'ok but the other factors made up for it.
07/01/2018: Went early December 2017. What is there to say really - excellent food, friendly and polite staff - Brilliant. Always call in when in the area and never been disappointed. A great experience.

Harbour Inn

Mid Galloway, Dumfries & Galloway
11/01/2018: Our party of 8 were made to feel so welcome in the Harbour Inn. The ambiance of the pub is welcoming and the real fire cosy and warm. We ate twice in the restaurant. The food was excellent, and Laura our waitress was very pleasant, patient and efficient. I can strongly recommend the fish pie and the fish and chips didn’t disappoint. Really fresh and good portions. The landlord, Harry, is a friendly landlord, cheerful and very obliging. He runs a good ship at the Harbour Inn. We wish he and his family well.
10/11/2017: Visited for a lunch and was pleasantly surprised that the standards are still high. Very tasty and nicely prepared food. Panini and club were great. Fish was excellent, not greasy at all. Even though the menu was with the battered, the chef managed to make a breaded one as per request. Not everywhere happens... The chips was made to perfection. Not to mention the price is very acceptable. Staff is very professional and welcoming. Very well run establishment. Will visit again for sure.
