After reading a recommendation on the internet, we called in at the Copshaw kitchen on our way back from camping in Kielder. Cut a long story short, I’m glad we did. Having munched my way through hundreds of cooked breakfasts whilst camping, walking and cycling all over the UK, this is the best cooked breakfast I have ever had. Add to this the friendly staff, clean faciities and local produce from the butchers across the road, I couldnt recommend the Copshaw Kitchen highly enough…superb!

We've visited this café/Bistro several times this last week whilst stopping in the area. The food is always excellent in quality and quantity and beautifully presented, not to mention reasonably priced. They open for breakfast and lunches and early evening at weekends. We can highly recommend the "Copshaw curry" at lunch time, and the chicken gougons. The portion sizes are good and it's all cooked fresh. We've eaten here many times over the last couple of years and we'd say this is by far the best quality food in the town.

Went in as they opened as I had just taken my car for his MOT to the garage opposite the Copshaw Kitchen cafe. Both my wife and I had a ful breakfast toast and tea. Oh boy I don't thing we will want anything else to eat till at the earliest 20.00hrs. Tye breakfast was amazing value for money 2 sausage 2 rashers of bacon ( my wife had 3 ) 2 Ash browns, haggis, black pudding, mushrooms fried egg, beans and a whole tomatoe. Everything was red hot, cooked to perfection, well presented, and extremely tasty. This is a very busy restaurant even at 10 in the morning , very friendly extremely helpful and efficient. There is a open fire in there roaring away to day because of the terrible weather. It is a very very clean cafe, spacious and welcoming with a great atmosphere. Recommended this cafe to everybody oh yes I also had a cappuccino which was just like you get in Italy. This was my far the best breakfast we have had in years.

A family (three adults) vist for evening meal on Saturday 29th April 2023. The food was nicely presented, the fish, chips and garden peas were hot and good size portions. However, my 'Haggis and Black Pudding Stack' was anything but a stack; consisting of one slice of each, overcooked and placed on top of each other, then on top of a modest portion of mashed 'neeps and tatties' with a drizzle of whiskey sauce over (Couldn't taste the whiskey though). For decoration, a few slices of overcooked carrot and some monge tout were placed diagonally across from each other, and a couple of strands of peashoots over the top. The main ingredients tasted dry, as if they'd been kept warm for too long. Finally, as we were settling our bill, a glance into the kitchen through the window in the door, revealed a large golden labrador wandering around the kitchen, sniffing at the plates and utensils on the lowere shelves of the kitchen tables. Health and Safety and Hygiene Inspectors would have had a 'field day' here. We had thought about having breakfast there the following morning, but decided to go elsewhere. And Yes, I do know what I'm describing here; I'm a retired Chef and Hotelier.

A return to a special place. Hosted and fed with care and great hospitality. We ordered the fish and chips and were treated to a beautiful plate of supper which was much needed after our busy day. The fish was cooked in batter and melted in the mouth. The chips in their little pail tasted twice cooked too. A side salad with some homemade coleslaw and the traditional peas made for a pretty plate of food. The prices are just right but to be able to sit down in this out of the way location and be served a meal of such a high standard is priceless really. The dining areas have a friendly and spacious feel so social distancing was very straightforward and it was clear that all the correct precautions and systems to keep everyone safe were in place. Our hosts were a joy to have around and it’s obvious they have great pride in what they offer. The small town of Newcastleton is always on our list of go to retreats and now this little gem is too. Probably one of the best breakfasts we’ve had... top quality ingredients, superbly cooked and well presented...very very tasty. We support local produce as much as we can and were pleased to learn everything on our plates has been sourced locally, including the bacon and sausage from an excellent butcher in the village.Coffee was piping hot and full of flavour!Tiny oversight of a couple of ingredients being missed off the full English but it’s not the mistake, it’s how the mistake is handled and I have to say, my husband was left with a big smile after being addressed as the ‘mushroom man’ by the chef upon delivery of missing mushrooms, which were worth the slight wait, and a couple of extra hash browns finding their way to his plate... superb service and we WILL be back!

We were staying at Dalkeith House for the weekend and getting married there. Copshaw Kitchen made us a steak and ale pie and a lasagne for our family the night before the wedding. They brought the food to the house, the portions were huge and absolutely delicious. The day of the wedding the men of the party went for breakfast, excellent food, brilliant service, very friendly staff. Robin and Linda did the catering for our wedding, cooked it at the house, what can we say, Robin is such a talented chef, food was fantastic, definitely 5 star and the rest. Linda was great, she couldn’t do enough for us. All the family were so pleased about the food and excellent service that we all went back the following day for breakfast. Will definitely be back. Thanks for everything Robin and Linda and all your staff

Called in with family on the weekend and had Tea and home made Scones and Cakes which were all fantastic, especially the 'Crunchy Cake' which was out of this world. Can't wait to go back. Well done to the owners & staff.

I’ve been in the UK for a couple of weeks and just had the best meal I’ve had since arriving. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal - included actual fresh vegetables and delicious flavours. Best meal in ages. Glad we stopped in.

My family and I visited the Copthorn Kitchen on the way home from a visit to the Kielder Observatory. Tired and hungry we were greeted by Lynda and offered the warmest welcome to this cosy bistro.

We had two meals in here over the weekend of the Music Festival, and I have reviewed the Copshaw Kitchen previously. Linda always goes out of her way to ensure everyone enjoys their visit, which is why when we wanted to take my elderly father on a day trip to Scotland mid-July for a birthday treat, we arranged to have lunch here once again. My father has respiratory problems and uses a nebuliser, so Linda saved us a table near an electrical socket. As it happens, he didn't need to to it, but it was reassuring to know that he could do if required. My dad likes whisky, so we ordered him one that he hadn't had before after the meal. Linda gave it to him at no charge for his birthday.

My wife & I were recommended by someone at Hermitage Castle to visit here. Excellent coffee & cakes were served here at a very reasonable price. The lady that runs the shop & cafe was very kind & the service was excellent. Thoroughly recommend a visit here if you are passing through the area.

Wow, fabulous food and made to feel most welcome. Dog friendly, Harris just loved David the co-owner. The Sunday beef roast was just the best we have ever had, a must. The food was so good we booked for the Italian night later in the week. The lasagna is to die for. Sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream was stunning. Best book of your going as you may be disappointed if you turn up, tables fill fast. Jason, Lesley and Harris.

We had heard really good things about The Night Safe and decided to book a table for lunch, especially as Friday is always busy in Hawick. The welcome, the ambiance and the choices on the Light Bite menu were, all, amazing. It’s a good idea to discuss your choices with the staff who explained the multi cultural dishes, eloquently. We settled on 4 of the light bites (not quite as light as we expected, with very generous portions). We chose, Haggis Bon Bon’s, Panko prawns, Calamari and Bao Buns with chicken in a buffalo sauce. We shared, and, the Bao Buns with chicken were particularly good and we ordered another portion, to share. ALL of the dishes were absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and very much enjoyed. We’re really looking forward to our next visit.

Faultless food and service in a superb, comfortable location. Birthday dinner for five of us, varied choices from beeg to schnitzel to scampi...all beautifully cooked and presented. 3 starters, 5 mains, 3 desserts, drinks and wine working out around £30 a head..great value. Will definitely be back
