We came for the food and left disappointed. The new owners are clearly not as good as the old ones! For dinner one of the two canapes was supposed to be Tomato Gazpacho but was a shot glass of tomato juice, the 'hand dived' scallops were two small defrosted things on mashed potato with a slightly spicy tomato sauce and the fillet of beef was overcooked without the promised truffle or carrot. It was homecooked food at best and certainly not worth £45 for 2 courses. We intended having a £15 pudding but the quality of the meal to that point stopped us. The rooms were comfortable but starting to look a little tired. There is no draft beer or lager but the setting is beautiful.

The legend, Ian Mac Andrew is still at the top of his game. This chef was a decade ahead of his time. We had dinner for four two nights in a row and every single thing was a sensation in the mouth. Having been to the Blackaddie on several previous occasions, our last visit was made just prior to lockdown. This is an ideal 'get away from it all' location with good countryside walking and the hotel is lovely but we go principally for the amazing food. Ian the chef is an immensely talented and innovative cook with a particular specialty favourite of ours being his savoury ice creams. We had a tarragon, sea salt and olive oil ice cream with beetroot and goats cheese as part of the 6 course tasting menu which was amazing! The quality, originality and presentation is easily Michelin star level and I would wholeheartedly advocate a visit once lock down is over to the foodies among you - you will not regret it.

We arrived at Blackaddie Country house hotel mid afternoon after a lovely drive through the beautiful Scottish countryside. We were greeted by Daniel as if we were long lost friends. walking into the hotel you get the feeling that you are being immersed in a long lost era in rich Scottish history, you feel at home instantly as the rigours of the world cascade from your shoulders and you begin to live that history, lush yet muted colours that can't help but relax. As A Chef i had known Ian McAndrew and read his fantastic cookbooks yet never eaten his food, primarily this is what we came for, and, come dinnertime we were not disappointed, Quite the opposite in fact. We chose the eight course tasting menu with great enthusiasm. For us, there is only one word to describe Ian's food, faultless! From the lightly spiced trout ceviche with a sublime cucumber sorbet to the perfectly sweet roast onion ice cremate the delightfully fluffy apple sorbet soufflé, we were willingly transported to a time before food went mad, no clever gadgets here, just well prepared, locally sourced ingredients cooked with a primal love of food and expert techniques. i wasn't sure how the golden pan fried Plaice on Waldorf salad would work but when it arrived all doubts were expelled, it was divine. Too many courses to mention here, suffice to say, all were fantastic in execution and the all important flavour. You need to visit Blackaddie! Kev Burlison

I don't quite know where to start! If you like trying familiar food in a different way, go and visit The Blackaddie. Roast onion ice cream? That'll never work.. Fennel ice cream? Erm, no thanks. Parmesan ice cream? Okay, being a bit silly now. But it wasn't silly. These innovative creations were fabulous! I could have eaten bucket loads of each one. Fish courses were wonderful! Roasted sweet halibut sitting on slightly salty buttered leeks, accompanied by mussels in a saffron sauce. Wow! Just wow. Regret not licking the dish. If you have the opportunity to try the chocolate and banana, or the individual pear tart - get several! The pear tart was something else.. that was epic. The ice cream was unreal! Attaching images of dishes enjoyed by myself and my Husband. Also - this review will be left in my maiden name. My married name is Jolly - just so the owners know that it's legitimate.

We stayed at the Blackaddie for 3 nights and all of our meals were beautiful. We have been visiting for a number of years now and there is always something new and delicious to taste and tempt us. I don't know where Ian gets his ideas from but there are brilliant combinations of tastes and textures. The menu is always different so it is very difficult to recommend a particular dish. Ingredients are sourced locally where possible, including the hotel garden. We've already booked our next visit.

We stayed overnight at Blackaddie Country House. The 4 course meal in the evening was faultless in its execution. After pre dinner drinks and canapes of essence of tomato, and goats cheese and tomato tartlet in the bar we had a pre starter of lightly pickled herring; chicken, foie gras and wild mushroom terrine with piccalilli to begin with; Parmesan ice cream for the palate cleanser; roast cod with fennel for the main course, and summer berries with strawberry parfait for the dessert. The menu was light, flavourful, and well balanced. The quality of cooking was exquisite with the principle component of each dish being the star each time, and accompaniments being a perfect partnership. The service was smooth and faultless. The one night stay at the Blackaddie Country House was one of our highlights of our short break in Scotland.
