Oakwood Restaurant

Inverness West, Highland
12/12/2018: Visited here again last Saturday with friends, and had a very enjoyable evening as usual, with Gus in good form looking after us, and the food excellent as always.
Of bestel heerlijke home made lemonade. Aanrader!

Crannag Bistro

North, West and Central Sutherland, Highland, 30-45£
16/11/2018: Visited crannag at the end of October with my wife in the middle of the week.
04/11/2018: Delicious 3 course meal. Attention to detail around flavours makes for a memorable meal Nice balance on the service too Price point good for the quality Would I recommend - Yes Would I return - Yes

Single Track

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
31/10/2018: We popped in here for a coffee on a recommendation from Skye-based friends and weren't disappointed. Soup, coffee & cakes later off we went! What a great spot to live & work with the constantly changing views of Kilmaluag Bay almost on the doorstep.
14/10/2018: Someone recommended this little gem to us and it was worth a trip out. The menu is limited but it is all home made. Both soup and cakes were delicious. The staff were very friendly. The cafe has a wide range of teas, coffees and hot chocolates. It is quite tiny inside but well worth a visit. It is however closed during the winter months. It would be a good idea to google a picture of the cafe before you go so you know what you are looking for and you don't drive past as the signage wasn't very good. Car park is also quite small. We went late afternoon and it was really quiet but it can be very busy. Make sure you don't miss out on a treat if you like homemade cake.

Whaligoe Steps Cafe

Land Caithness Ward, Highland
16/12/2018: We found this gem by chance in September when we were doing the NC500. My kids wanted a drink and after going in and meeting Karen the owner, we stayed for food. Were we glad we did! What a find. Karen is a wonderful chef and was so welcoming. After eating her food I couldn't leave without a copy of her fantastic cookery book. The views across the ocean are spectacular. Karen kindly packed us some home made sharing bread to take away which we had with dinner when we reached Dunnet Head that night. Thanks Karen it was delicious!! If you can't visit this place buy the book!
09/11/2018: This place was recommended last year and so when we returned to the area we made a trip to the steps and cafe. The food is wonderful and the hot chocolate with chilli unbelievable. The menu is so different to any other cafe I have ever been in and I was so impressed I bought a copy of the cook book written by the owners. Difficult to find but so worth it.

Ferry Inn Hotel

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland
11/12/2018: There is plenty of good food on Skye, and this is the best place we ate during our visit in October 2018. The food was wonderful. In particular the lamb I ordered was faultless; pink and tender in the middle, with the fat perfectly rendered and browned. Truly delightful to eat - I cannot cook lamb this way. The drinks on offer were also great and the staff were lovely and friendly. Very welcoming and accommodating. Definitely deserving of the high rating. Don't miss it.
28/11/2018: We’ve waited for Gordon to open the restaurant and weren’t disappointed the food was amazing, the portions were perfect, the menu changes on an almost daily basis and they are eager to receive feedback.

Nannys Shop

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland, >100£
07/11/2018: Visited here in October, stopped by for nice bowl of chowder which was lovely and location is really nice but we can't really say the same for the staff, as a group we just felt that they were a bit abrupt at times. One of the ladies who worked there also asked a customer to locate to another table to accommodate a larger group which is really bad I think!! Probably will go back there when we visit again, just to give it another chance, perhaps they were having a bad day.
01/11/2018: Lovely setting and lovely little village but why so expensive? £3.20 for a small slice of cake? Take plenty of cash with you if visiting.

LochLeven Seafood Cafe

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland
11/12/2018: Jag och en vän åt middag här efter en tuff dag i de högländska bergen.
25/11/2018: Brilliant food! The seafood is amazingly fresh and tasty. The 3 course children’s menu is also very good. And to top it all, the view from the dining area is awesome!

Inverness Central, Highland
13/12/2018: Visited for the set lunch which offered great value and a real hearty feed. The set lunch consisted of a Mixed Meze which is excellent fresh and tasty, then a choice of mains I always opt for the Chicken kebab which is superb . Then there is a choice of sweet which I normally cannot have due to not having any room . A great place, give it a are always made to feel welcome and A valued customer.
12/12/2018: We have visited Aspendos on many occasions over the years and still come to the same conclusion - it's the best restaurant in Inverness! Prompt, attentive, friendly service and excellent, tasty food - what more do you want!

The Three Chimneys Restaurant

Eilean a' Chèo, Highland, 60-100£
16/12/2018: I had the pleasure of visiting the Three Chimneys with my partner where we opted for the tasting menu, and she took the suggested wine flight (I was the designated driver). It was very enjoyable, with a good variety of flavours and textures. We particularly enjoyed the scallops, and I am advised that the wine pairings were very good with a particularly interesting choice from Slovenia. The waiting staff were attentive without being overbearing and the atmostphere was lovely. My only small criticism being it was quite hard to park!
12/12/2018: Run, do not walk (or hike!) to the best dining experience you can have in the world! Outstanding, five-star dining, with amazing service, great food and drink. Don't scrimp on your meal, and enjoy all that Three Chimney's has to offer. We had the kitchen table experience, with two other couples from the UK. We met some great people, drank some amazing wine, and enjoyed the most unique and decadent experience in memory. The kitchen staff and chef were amazing!

Ben Nevis Inn

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland
02/12/2018: What a fab place. Warm, cozy and inviting from the minute you walk in. The staff were lovely, friendly and made us feel at home. Good choice for gluten free options and they very kindly altered a lunch option to make it gluten free for me. The food was great, along with the yummy festive drinks menu. Would highly recommend to locals and anyone passing through. Would also make a lovely setting for a quiet dinner date or large group booking.
18/11/2018: What a cracking pub. Friendly hospitable staff. Great food and menu. Good beers and brilliant atmosphere. A real gem!

Glencoe Cafe

Fort William and Ardnamurchan, Highland, <20£
04/12/2018: After a great walk up the Pap of Glencoe, a fine cuppa after.......Sign said open 10am - 4pm.
02/12/2018: Nous avions fréquenté ce petit café en famille il à 5 ou 6 ans...

Fjara Cafe Bar

Lerwick South, Shetland Islands, <20£
28/10/2018: Great to sit and eat or just drink coffee and watch the seals. Friendly welcome and lovely food and coffee

The Thistle Stop

Caol and Mallaig, Highland
02/10/2018: We were driving toward Loch Ness and we were ready for lunch. We had delicious warm soup, an amazing view and the best home made shortbread cookies ever! We sat on a covered patio, out of the rain and just had a magnificent lunch.
14/09/2018: Great parking, great food and great service. Had the lentil and bacon soup to start with coffee and then a scottish breakfast. Best lentil soup and best bacon i have tasted in quite some time. Parking was easy for our campervan and "indicate now" road signage was super useful. Friendly service too. An easy recommendation for anyone driving the length of Loch Ness.

Shieldaig Bar and Coastal Kitchen

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland
25/10/2018: My wife and I have been travelling through the Highlands for over 3 weeks and I have to say that this was our favorite place to eat! I had the traditional haggis and it was good, of course. She ordered the fish and chips and we were both blown away. It was half a side of haddock on top of the hand cut awesome chips. It was unreal for quantity and quality. We are from Maine in the USA and are used to fresh fish, but this was the best we've ever had.
22/10/2018: We had the best fish and chips of our trip here. Great views too! This is a great little town on the coast.

RedPoppy Restaurant

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Highland, 20-30£
11/12/2018: A lovely atmosphere as soon as you walk in the staff were so attentive
03/12/2018: Fabulous food where there wasn’t one complaint about any of the 3 courses. Staff were friendly, helpful and always smiling and the service was brilliant throughout the whole lunch. Huge thanks for making this thank you meal so fabulous x
