We called in at this unlikely looking croft to collect our Indian Food and were warmly greeted. We were given heating instructions and set off back to the cottage with eager anticipation. We were not disappointed - it was absolutely delicious. They also do 'cook at home' kits - a fab present.

Lucy was wonderful and helped us choose some starters, mains and side dishes to suit the varied tastes of our family. Food was frozen so that you can take it home, defrost and then eat when you want it. The food was amazing and had so much flavour to it. Definitely good value for money and would totally recommend!

We popped in on our way north to collect some dishes. Really loved the discussion about the meals & the advice we received. When we arrived at our destination we followed the detailed instructions for the microwave & the results were wonderful - truly better than any takeaway. Thank you will be back in March 2019 🙏

This place was recommended by Mike, the owner of the lodge we were staying at in Kylesku. Great tasting take-away Indian cuisine in a most unlikely location...don't be put off by the fact that everything comes frozen. Saved the day because in January, just about every restaurant for miles around is closed for the season. Would stop there again if I ever find myself in that neck of the woods. Well done...very professionally organized, and the food was great!

The last thing you'd expect to encounter on a visit to the remote north western most reaches of Scotland is a top notch Indian takeaway. It exists! On the day that we followed our curiosity to Mike and Lucy's front gate, we were fortunate to enjoy an evening feast of Malabar langoustine curry, a vegetable curry from Kerala, crispy Indian bhaji and tasty naan, all defrosted from frozen and very easily reheated. The flavours were excellent, the ingredients clearly very fresh and the dishes not oily. We polished off the lot! Mike told us he learned to cook Indian food while posted to India in an earlier career. His cuisine represents the different regions of India and he recommended dishes according to how complementary the flavours of each dish would be for our meal. We were also eyeing the Ayam Betutu from Bali - next time! The idea of frozen meals is brilliant and perfect for this area. The Spice Route is conveniently located a short way off the road to Kinlochbervie that leads to walks to Sandwood Bay, little picnicking coves and a horse trekking centre. After a day of outdoor activity, Mike and Lucy's food was a treat. We will certainly be back!

The Spice Route produces a delicous variety of flavoursome dishes that will appeal to a wide range of different palettes. The curry hut itself is located not far from Rhiconich. Ordering is easy and the responses time are speedy. Advice, information are readily available from the knowledgeable owner. Each dish is generously proportioned, easy to reheat and a delight to consume. We have used The Spice Route twice now on our visits to N Scotland and recommend it unreservedly for its quality and variety.

First off, Mike and Lucy are most accommodating to non locals! While I recommend calling ahead to see what hey have available off their menu, Mike did take the time ( as we were returning customers) to provide us with our evening curry feast even shortly after closing. Cheers, Mike! The food itself was delicious and only the freshest ingredients are used. Although the meals come precooked, prepackaged and frozen, the reheating process is a snap. Before you know it, you have a delicious curry meal that you would be hard pressed to find in any restaurant. The menu offerings are divided up by 10 regions and Mike is keen at educating you on paring meals that compliment one another and your desired taste and heat/spice scale. I have found nothing in all my travels that comes close to the quality of the food and the service that was provided. Truly unique! So if you find yourself traveling through or staying in or around Rhiconich or Kinlochbervie, don’t miss the opportunity to treat yourselves!

Wow! have have we only just found this? We took our first (of many in the future) last Saturday on the monthly Ullapool delivery service and we were impressed. We ate like kings on Saturday evening and have a few more meals in the freezer. We tried different things so shared to have a taste of curry dishes, veg dishes, pakoras and naan - all were excellent. The flavours, aromas, meat content and general all round brilliant quality were a feast to behold. Needless to say we're planning our next order...

Staying locally and saw excellent reviews for this. It was excellent- phoned ahead with order- but equally sure that if we'd just dropped by that they would accommodate our requests. Reheating instructions easy to follow, and as frozen could have kept for longer. Fabulous flavours- just unfortunate that we don't have time for a return pickup!

If you want authentic tasting curry made from traditional recipes than try the Spice Route. This is not a restaurant but an outlet for take away meals that you take home. All you need to do is heat the dishes up and enjoy. The dishes are prepared following visits to the areas where these recipes originate and are made using the same ingredients.

This is beyond special-accomodation with its own living/dining area with wood stove, bedroom, bath, and kitchen. In addition, a patio with stunning views of water and mountains...the views are wide from inside the living room-so hard to look away:)) the food was excellent-we had not taken to indian food prior, but felt it was such a unique opportunity, so we had the dinner for 2-in our own accommodation-no need to drive, and it was delicious-catered to our specific palette. Farm fresh eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit, tomatoes, fresh baked bread, teas, coffee, etc-was all in our kitchen when we arrived! Cannot praise Lucy and Mike enough, it was certainly one of my favorites from our 21 day holiday, thank you! Shelly and Brett

We're fresh from a couple of nights at the Anam Cara Croft and it was one of the nicest places we've stayed at for a while. It's difficult to describe the Croft experience. The best I can manage is that it is a clever mix of B&B / Self Catering with the added twist of being able to order a delicious indian meal while you're there! All in the middle of 'nowhere'!The owners, Lucy and Mike made us very welcome from the moment we arrived and it was clear that nothing would be too much trouble for them. The Croft was nicely decorated with a comfy bed, lovely bathroom, living area with excellent views and a small kitchenette area which was perfect for getting cups of tea, grabbing a slice of the lovely cake and preparing breakfast from the goodies put in by our hosts. The icing on the proverbial cake was the evening meals, carefully prepared by Mike and Lucy as part of their 'Spice Route' business. Delicious on both nights! Why the 'best of both worlds'? If you're looking for a lovely bolthole to get away from it all you get the convenience of the B&B type experience as well as the extra space so that you can do your own thing when you want, just like in a self catering place. And, if you want to enjoy some great food then you can just sit back and let Mike and Lucy do all the cooking, setting the table and the washing up after. It's on our list of 'go-backs' if we end up back in the area!

We've had a few meals from here now, and they're absolutely brilliant. The food is professionally prepared and can be taken home either defrosted to cook on the day or frozen to pop in our freezer. The food is excellent quality and isn't drowning in an inch of cheap oil. There is a great knowledge of the ingredients and which dishes are suitable for vegans. My favourite dish is the cabbage thing, which admittedly left me with terrible farts all night, but it was absolutely worth it as it was so delicious. It was actually a self contained suite, immaculately kept with living area, kitchen, shower and bedroom with stunning views over the loch. We were assigned to work in the area for 3 weeks solid over Christmas and Hogmanay, and because of the nature of the work, were unable to leave the 'patch' at any time during those 3 weeks. As there was only one other place to eat out within the area, we were DELIGHTED to find The Spice Route! What a pleasure! In a wild and remote area such as this corner of Sutherland, innovation, and 'thinking out of the box' really come into their own, and to order your food by phone, and then meet 'The Little Red Car' in a lay-by at pre set times to find a perfect pre-packed meal ready to re heat and enjoy was very special. Not only that! If you want a meal outside these times, a phone call and directions to Anam Cara Croft, and you can pick it up! (and wow you DO need the directions) And that's just the beginning! The food is outstanding! A wide choice of authentic Indian and South Asian dishes, perfectly cooked , beautifully balanced, and so delicately spiced , that every mouthful is a delight. It is simply outstanding in every way, from the unique concept, to the perfect execution. To top it all such lovely helpful and interesting people! It is places, people and experiences like this that make the North Highlands such a wonderful place to live.

We travel up to Sutherland a lot to visit my dad and now it's a necessary part of the trip to order a curry from The Spice Route - and take curries back to Glasgow, that's how good they are. We like Glasgow curries but these are wonderfully different. I've told Mike & Lucy I could live on their Butter Chicken alone, but then I tried their Onion Pakora. Oh my. Our trips tend not to to fit in with the established drop off places and times but we just order by email and pick up from their house, fresh or frozen curries to suit us. They haven't even put us off when they were getting ready to cater for one of their popular music nights the following day. Can't recommend them highly enough, but don't go buying up all their stock, we've got another trip coming up very soon.

We were here three years ago and it was a beautiful meal so we said we’d definitely come back. Gave a great review and it was well deserved. This visit was so disappointing 23/11/24 They took our drinks order then never came back for our meal order. We had to shout one of them over. The meal was lukewarm when it reached us. The chicken was tough and the sauce was tasteless. It was bland. I had the chicken tikka biryani and my husband had the chicken tikka dopiaza. He thought exactly the same as me with his meal. One of the things I really like about getting out for an Indian meal is the fact that it’s piping hot straight from the kitchen. Not like when you get a takeaway, it’s had time to cool down. They were very busy so I think our meal was sitting out for a while before it got to us. We were waiting for sometime for it. The ladies toilet had no toilet roll in it and they were not clean. We were really looking forward to this meal as well and it was a let down. We won’t be back.
