The best restaurants serving Other european-cuisines food in North East

We have been customers of Bistro en Glacé for many years, long before the current owners took over the restaurant. We visit 3/4 times year spending approximately £150 every time. The food has always been good until our most recent visit when we experienced an issue that should have dealt with in a much more professional manner. We were not upset about the fault re one of the main courses as everyone makes mistake in their own occupation, that happens, but for me you judge the true values of a business by how the handle negative circumstances and in this instance Bistro en Glacé failed miserably. Our son ordered his usual, steak with peppercorn sauce, which he’s had several times previously at this restaurant. After pouring the sauce over the meat and fries he took a mouthful of food and commented that the sauce was not right. My wife and I tasted it and it was clearly wrong, it tasted and smelt cheesy as if the cream used was off. It was truly awful. I commented to the waiter and he went to the kitchen. We naturally expected that a replacement would be provided, that would have been a normal response. Instead after several minutes the lady that we assume to be the owner came to our table and said that she, the chef and waiter had tasted the sauce and it was exactly as they make it and turned away. That was patently not true as my son had eaten the peppercorn sauce on previous occasions and it had been nice. At this stage, I was understandably disgruntled and ready to tough it out but my wife and son do not like it when disagreements occur so for that reason I very reluctantly held my tongue. My son eat the very few mouthfuls of fries and steak that were not covered with sauce. Later that evening we received an automated text message from the restaurant requesting review. It was negative, explaining why as I have in this review and invited them to respond. Had they reflected and realised they had failed in the first rule of commerce “Customer is King” and apologised we would most likely have put the experience behind us but they did not respond it just reaffirmed their only priority was monetary and not customer satisfaction. For that reason I decided to post this review to make others aware of our experience that could so easily have been avoided at minimal cost to them , their cost of a steak and a few potatoes, £10 at most for which they charge over £30. Instead they will lose over £450 of our custom annually as we shall never again set foot in the premises.

There were 19 of us booked in for a meal. They gave us a room to ourselves. We had pre-ordered our food so we had no waiting to be served. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and polite and the price was reasonable. All in all a very good experience. Highly recommend it

Llevé a mi mamá a tomar el té de la tarde. Era irreal, pedí los bocadillos que queríamos ya que somos bastante quisquillosos. Nada era un problema , los bocadillos estaban frescos y llenos de relleno, los pequeños toques de vida tomates cherry con un cubo de queso en un palo de cóctel y fruta fresca , luego a elegir su propio pastel, sin importar los otros pasteles en el plato también . Es totalmente delicioso y fresco, vale cada centavo, y ambos trajimos una caja llena de sobras. Olvidé mencionar los nachos que dan para empezar. Pasa hambre y vete de peluche.

Pasan por este lugar todo el tiempo y se han sentido a entrar desde que se abren, y me las arreglé para tener la oportunidad de hacerlo, última noche y no me decepcionó. No era que estaba ocupado, pero no puedo entender por qué ya que la comida era impresionante, estupendas tapas y una selección fabulosa para elegir. Excelente relación calidad-precio y el servicio que empareja con la calidad de la comida. Fuimos a las 7 tapas por 24 libras y el chef también envió a una sopa gratuita como un aperitivo. Los platos estaban bien pensado, bien presentado y recién hecho. Sin duda volveremos y ya se lo he recomendado ...

This family run guest house is ace. Guests are made welcome, room was functional and comfortable, bed was as good as I've experienced in any hotel. The breakfast was very good, well cooked and presented nicely. In all difficult to fault.

Asked for tea, it came in a tiny cup with milk added, when I said we needed it without milk, the young girl seemed really annoyed. Anyhow, 2 teas, one bag of nuts, and a sack of attitude, not worth the £6.50. Shame really as there's nothing else around and this place could be great.

Food and service spot on. Decor was a bit much, it felt very cluttered and the amount of stuff everywhere meant there were areas that required a really good dust and deep clean.

I found this a most enjoyable, warm, comfortable place. Small but beautiful formed. The wall notices were fun .Thank you. I shall be back.

Visited mid week and although they were busy I got a table pretty quick. The staff here were lovely and the food came out pretty quick after ordering.

Horrendous service. Staff totally uninterested. No interaction from them when entering, no menus offered. Took ages to get drinks, never returned with sugar for a coffee or even to take food order. Eventually got up and left - it was not busy! Avoid - If I could give no stars I would!

Un amigo y yo cenamos aquí, esta noche. Los clientes nos regulares hasta hace un año, y siempre estábamos satisfechos con todos los aspectos, la comida, el servicio, el ambiente. Sin embargo, esta noche nos quedamos muy decepcionados con todos los aspectos, el cordero grasosa y mal preparada y presentada. El café estaba servido con crema agria. No como mesas desnudas, daba la sensación de una cuchara grasienta cafetería, prefiero manteles. Recepcionistas buscando desordenado en la recepción y las alfombras necesitan una buena limpieza. Papel niveles fueran en una pendiente descendente. Muy decepcionante.

Great food, large portions, cozy atmosphere both inside and outside. Great place for various occasions...

We visited Träkol for Sunday lunch and we left very satisfied. We started with some fresh oysters and Bloody Mary. The main course, roast beef, was perfectly cooked (medium rare), delicious and tender, and came with all the trimmings which were equally scrumptious, especially the cauliflower cheese. I would go back and certainly recommend a visit.

My cheese scone was amazing and the breakfast buns were well filled with tasty bacon and sausages. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Thank you very much for our Mother’s Day outing.
