We visited Träkol for Sunday lunch and we left very satisfied. We started with some fresh oysters and Bloody Mary. The main course, roast beef, was perfectly cooked (medium rare), delicious and tender, and came with all the trimmings which were equally scrumptious, especially the cauliflower cheese. I would go back and certainly recommend a visit.

This is a very nice experience. A very kind welcome as we had not booked and wanted to eat something different from the local offerings. Curried goat on toast was delicious! I had high hopes as this restaurant is highly recommended so it could just be a personal view and not the majority, the toilets were outside and it was cold, the food was nice but not amazing apart from the steak as that was excellent, staff were lovely, location Is a bit odd too, I would be wary if I was on my own. The company was fantastic though, always good to catch up.

We booked for a Sunday lunch as a party of 4. The venue is lovely, clean, spacious and cosy. The tables are a great size and seating is comfortable. Fabulous drink selection and the service was spot on. However, food was served on cold plates which meant our meal when very cold very quickly so could not be enjoyed all the way through. A shame as the food was lovely but I felt for the price paid it would of been nice to have a hot meal all the way through. The toilets are in a separate unheated building, these really don't match the standard of the restaurant.

Forced to sit in a cold area when the empty restaurant was warm and slightly more inviting. Last orders were called at 10.50pm, so we went to buy more drinks to be told we had to leave by 11.00pm. We decided there wasn’t enough time, although we sat there until 11.25 strange experience for what’s usually a very welcoming City. This may have something to do with focus purely on food.

We visited here as we received vouchers for our birthdays. Great location and views across the river. The menu was a bit different even in presentation as it wasn't clear what was a starter or main so this needed to be explained. I ordered wild mushrooms to start which were OK, unusual flavour and my husband (a scotsman) ordered the Haggis which disappointed him. His cod for his main dish was good but my Barnsley chop was predominantly fat and bone and some raw lamb. I prefer my lamb pink but was not consulted. We also ordered potatoes for a side which had been preserved but just tasted a bit stale. Maybe not for your average person.

We were told 3 pm was a late booking but they take reservations until five so that was a weak excuse. The orders taken for both the bear and the wine were incorrect the knife was dirty smeared with something the roast beef which five of us orderef was cold as were the vegetables and all swimming in cold gravy on a cold plate. Excellent location. Efficient staff. Shame about the Sunday lunch which was awful. I asked for the standard plate but without meat. I received a heap of very large, uncut, root vegetables, covered in kale, sitting in a pool of cool brown liquid. The Yorkshire pudding and very large roast potato were ok. Maybe I was unfortunate. I didn’t complain because the meal was a treat from our friends.

I came to Newcastle with a colleague of mine for an event and we decided to come to Traköl for dinner after researching the best restaurants in the city. The restaurant has serious Scandi vibes especially as it is situated by the Tyne in what could be mistaken as a little Viking settlement on the south side of the river. Loved the walk to get there and being by the water. Service was friendly and well-paced with the waiters being very knowledgable about the food and drinks that were served. We ordered the bread with honey whipped butter as a starter (Omg! the bread was clearly home made and the butter was sweet but also slightly salty) and the Pig's Head feast which was delicious. However, only note from me is that the plate was perhaps too "graphic" but this is just my own opinion and I should have known better given the name on the menu itself. Overall though this was absolutely stunning: the juicy fat of the pork was complemented so well by the freshness of the apple kimchi. Next time I will definitely try their beef feast which the table next to us ordered and looked wonderful. Will I be back at Traköl? If I am back in Newcastle, for sure. Will I order the Pig Feast? Probably not but again my own preference. This was a beautiful dinner, fairly priced and in a beautiful location too.

We were so looking forward to this meal. Other family members had been before and had enjoyed the food but not necessarily the experience. (Unfortunately, our daughter's meal had been spoiled by an overly attentive man high on coke - not the restaurant's fault but as far as I know they didn't receive any offer of reduction in the bill for the added inconvenience). The location is great, the environment "trendy basic" but not uncomfortable, the staff helpful. It was the food that let them down. The asado lamb was tender in parts and chewy in others but quite flavourless. The accompanying wilted spring onions looked like they had had the life stewed out of them. And the fermented potato sides were described as having been "fermented in brine so they can be quite salty". The entire meal was quite salty but the potatoes , double fried in appearance, were not salty, were over cooked, normal chunky chips that had been cut into cubes. We left them. At £150 for two we felt it was not good value given the quality of the food we were served. We may have hit them on a bad night, but in a highly competitive marketplace you only get one chance to get it right. It was a shame as we had expected so much better.

We received a warm welcome from front of house and cheerily helped through the considerable beer menu to find styles to suit our food choices. Service was well timed, neither hurried nor slow and each dish was delicious and well presented. Our found several items on the menu where I was having to weigh-up my preference, which is one of the joys of selecting from a good menu. Prices are keen for this type of service and quality of product so we left feeling we'd had a very good meal and drinks.

Newcastle is a beautiful city with lovely people, but the food scene always leaves a lot to be desired, Trakol is a restaurant we heard good things about and were excited to try, it's located right under the Tyne Bridge in a quite a scenic location, you walk in and there is a live fire in the middle of the restaurant and really nice ambience and you think you're in for a treat, however the minute you're handed the menu you feel let down, and from then on you are almost choosing the least damaging option, we ate in many restaurants around the world but even we found it hard to pick something from the menu, we ended up with a couple of the vegetarian dishes that were actually good enough but the main (we went for the Lamb) was very disappointing, they had good desserts as well but its not a place you would come back to in a hurry.

Tried and have to say wasn't overly impressed. Vegan option on a Sunday was a joke with a nut roast that looked like it came from a packet of stuffing and was so small in size it was gone in two bites. Meat (Beef) was very fatty and had a lot of grissle so half of it was left. Also why do they insist in giving so little veg across the Sunday lunch range and no gravy to pour over yourself? For the prices paid we expected to at least leave and not have to get something else across the river at the quayside market. Not be back. 👍👍

I felt compelled to write this review as this time, our whole experience was truly awful. This was our 4th visit to Trakol. I booked online and received the usual email stating that if we had any dietary requirements to get in touch and they would oblige. It was my daughters birthday so I responded asking if they could provide GF alternatives. They didn't get back to me. We arrived, lovely waitress, great beer, prompt attention but when I asked about GF we were given a menu with ticks next to the food she couldn't eat, with no alternatives offered. So her choices were significantly limited. Why ask to get in touch if you're not going to respond? Pigs tails were nice, as always. I ordered their own charcuterie. I was expecting a small plate of mixed cold meats. I got a plate of ribbons of pure, tasteless fat. The baked oysters were also tasteless and lacking the texture you'd expect and were sloppy. The lamb was chewy, tough and again lacked flavour. The baked greens were so salty they were inedible; we all left them. Thankfully my daughters steak was delicious so all was not lost. I have just cancelled a booking I had for December, we won't be going again. Such a shame as the venue is amazing. Trakol, you let us down on a very importsnt day.

Other than the bar code scanning system for ordering drinks abysmal, the location is fabulous and the drinks are lush. Especially the ciders.

The kind of place being a carnivore is made for. Excellent meat with wonderful vegetable side dishes. Fermented potatoes are epic.

What a fantastic Sunday lunch - great views of the river, fabulous food (meat and vegetarian options). The service was great, very attentive and a really good vibe - they've got it just right! Really reasonable prices that made it very good value for money - we'll definitely be back.

Loved it. Amazing food and location. You could call me biased because Träkol is swedish and means ”wood coal”, which is what they use for the grill. But I would have loved this place anyhow.

Horrendous service. Staff totally uninterested. No interaction from them when entering, no menus offered. Took ages to get drinks, never returned with sugar for a coffee or even to take food order. Eventually got up and left - it was not busy! Avoid - If I could give no stars I would!

My friend and I often meet and eat at Nandos in Trinity Square, Gateshead. We love the staff and as a rule we enjoy the food. Today I tried the new Chicken Pickle burger. The overriding problem - it was cold /part frozen. The bread bun, the pickle, the 'melted' cheese and the salad garnish were very chilly. The chicken in the bun was probably warm at some stage but everything else chilled it down quickly. The plate was very cold. I complained - politely - and another Chicken Pickle burger was prepared for me. The replacement was just as bad - very cold again. I asked the server if it had started out frozen and she told me some of it did. Im sure the staff 'cooked' the burger exactly as they were told to but the finished product was very chilly and not pleasant to eat. It will not put us off Nandos but I will definitely not order the Chicken Pickle Burger. I have absolutely no problem with the staff. They are wondeful. The new Chicken Pickle Burger is uncomfortably chilled.
