Este es con mucho el mejor café en el lado sur de Edimburgo. El personal es infaliblemente amable y los precios son razonables.

Came to Detour Espresso because my friend recommended it. I was very happy with the flat white there, contrary to some reviews I saw on Google: the coffee did not taste âburntâ, I thought it had a lovely roasted flavour to it, without the bitter aftertaste that is so often an issue; the texture was brilliant, again, no funny aftertaste; also, the size was very normal for a flat white (after reading some reviews I expected it to be a lot smaller). I also got their soup, which if I remember correctly was carrot and coriander, with sourdough bread. I thought the price was good - ÂŁ4. The sourdough was toasted which was lovely. The soup was also delicious. Next time Iâm in Edinburgh Iâll definitely pop in again! PS: if you want fresh pastries, consider coming earlier in the day, because when I came (2 hours before they close or so) they didnât have much out.

My friend and I visited this restaurant and were disappointed. We ordered a starter which, when it arrived, was not what was advertised on the menu. We ate it but mentioned to the waiter that it was not what we had expected. He walked away as my friend was saying this to him but did begrudgingly apologise before disappearing. However, although he reappeared, he did not come back to the table to ask us if we wished to have anything else and we waited for at least 30 minutes before we decided we would just go. There was nobody else in the restaurant so it certainly wasnt because it was busy. Wouldnt go back.

We stumbled in without a reservation on a busy Sunday morning. The staff accommodated us without a fuss. Delicious, well-prepared, contemporary take on a traditional Scottish breakfast. Pastries to die for. Very good coffee. And the freshly baked whole grain bread with the poppy seed crust...oh my. Bright, cozy atmosphere inside. Attentive staff. If we lived in Edinburgh, it would be our go-to bakery and breakfast place.

I've known Machina since its early, rustic days in the former Tollcross venue. Then it evolved into a sleeker operation, and now, in Marchmont, it's at its sleekest. Large, very nicely designed multi-room environment, beautiful varied displays pf coffee equipment, in sum an appealing place to sit in and sip your coffee and perhaps savour one of the nice-looking sweets. What about the coffee itself? It used to be superb. Now, it is still ]good and well-executed, but the blend they served seemed a little more ordinary to me. Maybe cost-control, maybe my tastes have evolved, the fact is that I no longer find the coffee here to be at the same top-top level. But, I repeat, it is certainly very good. Prices are very high. Staff varies: I've met some friendly and competent, others disengaged and not well-informed. There is a policy that regulates the use of laptops - perfectly understandable in view of the tendency of many people to use coffee shops to get a workplace where to stay half a day on the cheap.

Tan triste.

Over the summer there's nothing better than visiting the Pavilion Cafe, I go for cups of tea and sometimes lunches. My favourite meal is a halloumi wrap, and I love the chai tea, but all the food and drinks are just amazing : )

Welcomed warmly by charming young staff and offered a choice of seats. The cheese lounge has a french/mediterranean bistro vibe to it with tiled walls and smoozy cuban lounge music playing gently in the background. Walk in customers to the shop take priority, so be prepared to wait. We wanted to take advantage of the excellent deal of a cheese board for two with a bottle of house white or red (ÂŁ20), but were refused a taste of either, albeit most politely. We went for the white, Gran Cerdo which unfortunately wasn't to our taste. They had ice buckets, but no ice, though did offer to keep it in their fridge between glasses. The cheese board was kindly made up of some requested favourites and some new ones to try, all accommodating my cow's milk intolerance, presented with a low-down on each, evidencing where their expertise lies. Some delicious cheeses, though for some odd reason they toasted the lovely crusty bread that accompanied them. We would have preferred the option of plain bread as by the time we were ending our selection the toast was brick hard. The quince was a welcomed sweet addition alongside all the savoury tastes. My husband gave up on the Cerdo wine and requested two different reds. First was delicious but second was served from a very cold fridge, coming colder than the whit, which although have experienced in some lands, disappointingly prevented the rich flavours to come through. Shame. So despite a relaxing ambiance, charming staff and delicious cheeses, we feel the lack of wine knowledge prevented this from being an 'excellent' review.

Another visit to The Maytree in Bruntsfield for some lunch was another great experience. We had Mushroom soup with toasted Focaccia filled with Bacon, Brie & Cranberry along with Tea and Chocolate Hazelnut slice. Food brilliant, served by a very friendly happy waitress. Music soundtrack just magic !!! See you again soon.
