Another visit to The Maytree in Bruntsfield for some lunch was another great experience. We had Mushroom soup with toasted Focaccia filled with Bacon, Brie & Cranberry along with Tea and Chocolate Hazelnut slice. Food brilliant, served by a very friendly happy waitress. Music soundtrack just magic !!! See you again soon.

The hot chocolate wasn't great for a place that has a whole hot chocolate menu! I ordered a hazelnut flavoured one and it didn't taste of it at all. The lady at the counter was also quite unfriendly to me, barely saying a word or looking at me the whole time even when taking my order and giving my drink to me. The shop is nice and cosy though.

This place is for serious chocolate lover and those who appreciates good quality chocolate. We tried a variety of hot drinks, and I loved the Chai Mocha best. The chai flavor and mocha chocolate coexisted well. Didn’t realize chai can taste this good before 😊. Also tried the pastries homemade by the owner. The scone was buttery and hit the spot right on. The highlight to me is the sea salt caramel chocolate tart. The chocolate ganache was OMG chocolaty rich with the caramel adding just the right complexity without stealing the show. And you don’t taste the salt upfront, but accentuate all the different flavors, just the way it should be. This tart is a French patisserie quality!

I love hot chocolates! I was introduced to this cozy establishment by my friend. Ever since I have come I could not get away! There are two guys, (who shall remain nameless) that always make my day. When I come in they make the whole place sparkle. They compete with each other and sometimes come up with interesting concotions(if you ask them to). I have not kept the score but one is definitely winning.. Their hot chocolates are always a treat and its something I look forward to after work especially in good company. :) The cafe has a good selection of delectables. Ice cream is also to die for. If you havent yet gone to Maytree then you are definitely missing out!

I’ve always been intrigued by The Maytree in Bruntsfield Place, EH10, an independent café which is located just away from the main drag. Most coffee drinkers would be heading for the cluster of cafés in central Morningside which would leave some seats at the Maytree for us. And this proved to be the case. The interior was warm and welcoming, there was an enticing display of chocolates including something that I haven’t eaten for some time; Montezuma chocolate with chilli. So the café had some good things going for it before we ordered. The food menu is small; soup of the day, toasted bagel and/or filled bagels. The confections list appeared vast, “a selection of ….. cakes, tarts, macaroons, biscuits, traybakes & Brownies” but there wasn’t much evidence of these on the counter. The menu also reads “Freshly prepared each week by Hannah and her team” which would have put me off as I wouldn’t be sure if my cake was 1 day old or 7 days old. You could buy a small individual chocolates for £1.20 to go with your drink. This seemed quite excessive per item compared to buying a bag/box off the café's shelf. We ordered 2 flat whites which duly came having been prepared lovingly for some time. The froth was velvety, the artwork varied between the 2 cups, its border wasn’t as dark as some but the taste was very good. The coffee underneath was made with Thomson grounds but sadly it didn’t offer the coffee hit I was after. Under the lush head was a weak milky coffee rather than the double hit espresso. Would I return; I’ve already got my eyes fixed on the Italian Style; “a strong thick double shot of our Italian style organic hot chocolate”. So I would return and forget about the coffee and cakes.

Delicious homemade cakes, pastries, icecream/sorbets (with lots of vegan options) I treated myself to a toasted bagel (with goats cheese, beetroot and walnut), a slice of chocolate hazelnut cake with a scoop of hazelnut ice cream and a large mug of decadent hazelnut hot chocolate 😊 Everything was delicious and I was lucky to find a free table as I imagine this place often gets busy, especially on weekends ! So much to choose from and friendly efficient service. There is a good range of select chocolate and coffee/tea gifts also available. Set in the heart of Bruntsfield, I enjoyed a bracing November walk afterwards. Will definitely return! 🤗

Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful cafe. The wonderful coffee smell is the first thing you notice upon entering, and the atmosphere is so classy yet relaxed. On the wall is an enormous Renaissance painting in jigsaw form -- it was so impressive I had to take a short video of it and send it to my sisters because we have a little group chat called Jigsaw Club. Anyway, on to the main event -- the cakes on display, my lord. The drinks, the hot chocolate. They were fantastic. There's also a lovely little seating area inside and outside so it's perfect for a sunny morning when you want to live outside of time for a while. Finally, I always think the staff makes or breaks a place. Well, pleasantly, the staff here were so nice and friendly. They delivered our order quickly, too, which we took away with us. Next time, I plan to try their toasted bagels 🥯 !!

Very cozy cafe in bruntsfield, cool vibey hippie style decor and really friendly staff. We had bagels and coffee and everything was lovely, had falafel and mango chutney bagels which I’ve never seen anywhere else before but I wish they were more common!! The actual bagel itself was a bit pappy and cheap but the fillings and lovely setting of the cafe made up for it. You should 100% come here, at least for the lattes.

I find the brunch very pricy for its portion size. I ordered a cream cheese bagel/soup combo (£7) and a latte (£3). The bagel was had great flavours but it was flat and small. The soup was mushroom and thyme but the black pepper was on the heavy side that I couldn't taste much of the mushroom. I was still hungry after eating the combo, so decided to order a chocolate and pear tart (£4) which was nice and tasty but also pricy. I've had better value (price:portion ratio) in other cafes. Apart from the pricy food, the shop looks great and the staff was friendly!

It’s a great place to sit for a coffee and cake but if you go too regularly you notice it’s the same cakes week after week. A lot of cafes are using the Covid excuse to limit their choice. But it’s a bad policy if you want regular customers as it comes across as lazy.

It has a very cosy atmosphere and a hot chocolate, you will certainly remember. The staff are so kind and if I lived closer I would love to make my local cafe. My favourite Edinburgh pub. A quirky, friendly to all, great beer and chat place down in the Newhaven area. This place stays open by the love of its owners and has a huge social impact. If you want a good local craft beer, if you feel a bit off or want to celebrate something, just get the tram and stay to the last stop, and then a short walk to the Dreadnought will fix it.
