Unfortunately, although everything looked very good, I couldn't consume anything because it was half an hour before closing and according to the young lady behind the counter it was too late to sit down. I insisted saying that I really needed a cup of tea to warm me up but she replied that there were no free tables when there was one full of glasses which nobody knows why it couldn't be freed and at another there was a boy sitting at the table. computer that had clearly long since finished its life. Now I can understand that maybe it's boring to serve a customer when closing time approaches but there is a way and a way. I have read other criticisms that reflect my experience today and I wonder how it is possible to keep a business open with such listless and indifferent staff.

I had a scone and brownie coffee. The scone had raisins in it and it was soft. Coffee is also delicious.

For me, this is the most delicious coffee, a wonderful atmosphere. The only downside is that there is little space to sit down.

Nice little place. Good coffee and a cute environment. The music was very loud and more like a disco than a coffeehouse. Would try a different day.

The perfect place if you like tepid coffee, charged at the highest rate and served by surly and disengaged servers. I also ordered a Rooibos tea for my wife. What was presented was unlike anything we've ever tasted - more like the leftover dust from every other herbal tea in the cupboard. A very unpleasant experience indeed. 👎😵‍💫

Excellent coffee and pastry. Full stop - that’s it - all you need to know! However for more details: the baristas that served me on three occasions over our short break to E were great, knowing about coffee prep and pulling a good shot. I enjoyed a proper expresso, nice flavours going on with lovely mouthfeel. What’s more the flapjack was stupendous, really nutty with seeds and slightly spicy buttery sweetness…I took my third lump up to scoff atop Arthur’s Seat and the sun came out. Totally recommend. Support independence, avoid commercial StarB. and BlkShp etc

Delicious scones~!! Ah, I ate a scone with raisins in it. The coffee is okay, and the scones don't have a chewy texture, but are moist, with a texture somewhere in between puffy and moist. I didn't like the London Gale because it was just like bread. Even though I like things that are bold, it was just right.

This was a wonderful little cafe, conveniently located in New Town. We sort of stumbled upon this little cafe on our first walk through Edinburgh, and we were delightfully surprised by the quality of the drinks and service.

Terrible service. The food is good but the staff is disrespectful and rude. While ordering you feel like you're bothering the staff, especially the girl with the short hair. We left after she was rude and she didn't even apologize and just said they were having a bad day in a complaining way. Not worth it

We were invited to leave because it was almost time to close even though there was still one hour left for closing. When we wanted to clarify a girl with very short hair said that they were having a terrible day so they weren’t going to serve us and we could do take away if we liked. I think if you don’t like to face customers maybe you should find another type of job.

Wonderful little coffee shop below Penhaligons. What it lacks in size it makes up for in atmosphere with small tables nestled next to one-another. The flat white was as I like it with silky textured milk and rounded extraction, not too bitter or sour. Beans were on the robust side but not dark. Pastries were fresh with the Pain aux Chocolate rich and luxurious. Been back multiple times and always consistently good.

This is hands down the best coffee in Edinburgh. Being from Melbourne, it’s near impossible to find a decent coffee here. This place nailed it. The scones are great as well.

Was recommended this coffee place by the receptionist at my hotel. As a coffee enthusiast, I had high hopes from the glowing recommendation. The americano I had was incredibly weak and not great in flavour. Especially for £4.10 A redeeming factor was the scones, both the chilli and cheese and fruit scones were nice

Another one of these Edinburgh coffee houses serving Latte in a small cup and charging £4.30 for the privilege. I said to the server that's a Flat White measure, and a Latte should be 8oz. His reply " Sorry that's the size of our cups" Cheated yet again.

Very good small café with a few tables inside and a few outside (at least in summer). Delicious cheese and jalapeño scone and very good (and well-made) coffee. Nice staff and atmosphere!

I don’t make it to Edinburgh very often, maybe 3 times in 40 years, but my first stop is Wellington for the best Flat White you can find north of the border. Scone was mighty fine too, even if I was offered cream and jam with a fruit scone - heaven forbid. Butter, please.

Scones and strong, acidic coffee are delicious. It's a shame that you can't get a seat if you go during busy times because there aren't many tables, but it's a small but cozy cafe.

It's not often I complain but crap customer service is unacceptable. Festival or not. Came here with two friends for coffee, male staff didn't acknowlege me to order, it was like was doing him a favour by being there. Two coffees and a lemonade (£12!) and then offered at checkout to add a tip. Went outside but but there was only two seats spare (which my friend and young daughter took) and I said I would stand and try and grab a seat if it came up. A female brought our drinks, no service with a smile - I asked if I could grab a chair from inside to bring outside. She bluntly said NO. Not - I am so sorry / I will go and ask. I was going say good customer service and a welcoming attitude cost nothing - but I won't - it has cost you three customers that won't be back. I am local and disappointed.

Love this place but there was an incredibly rude lady with a shaved head. When I walked in and asked if I order before sitting down she looked at me like I was an idiot. She then went on to be horrible to two tourist who took a picture and she seemed highly offended by being in the picture. Not ideal I understand but there is a polite way to deal with it. She then went on to loudly tell colleagues a story of it happening before and cursing throughout the story for everyone to hear. Nice guy on the till gave me a refund so she didn’t have to stay.

Superbly made cappuccino, very consistent and delicious!

We just had coffee here, the most wonderful shortbread, just as it should be. However the coffee, whilst a lovely flavour was best decribed as 'very warm' so I returned it, these things happed, after a life time in catering I should know. I received a less than friendly response. The replacement coffee's were warmer but not hot, I drank my coffee in two goes. However the 'death stare' was really hot and came with no apology. I have always taught people that if things go wrong, get over it, it happens, it is what you do afterwards counts. I will always support the independent and will not go to chains but independents should always remember that no one owes them a living.

We got two lovely coffees from two lovely guys first thing on a Saturday. A very cute place with comfy seats, interesting views and nice scones!! We will be back!

The worst female barista in the world

We came at around 9am and the small coffee shop was quite full. We managed to snag a table right after we ordered (1 latte, 1 flat white and a scone with clotted cream). The coffee was pretty good. It was smooth and a little fruity. The foam was really good. The scone with clotted cream was really big. You could share it between 2 people. The scone didn't taste like baking powder which was good. It wasn't dry or anything. The jam and clotted cream went perfectly well with the scone. Would definitely recommend getting the scone with clotted cream

The café is small but very charming. It has wonderful pastries and excellent coffee. I ordered a cortado and enjoyed every sip, and the price was reasonable. Prices here are affordable, whereas coffee is very expensive in my country.

Not a good espresso - very watery, under extracted, no crema. Also quite expensive, but it’s in a prime location so that’s understandable.

[May 2024 Update] This was my wife's first visit to Wellington's. Its a small coffee shop that inhabits an old newagents shop. But, as I realised when visiting this time - it's been open in this site since 2008! Coffee-wise it has it's own unique coffee - a huge caffiene hit, which at the time was very much apprecaited. At the moment there are only a limited number of internal tables. What was external to Wellingtons appears to be under construction. If you've got the time to visit, do so. [2022] Good Coffee in a tiny space.

Very cute tucked in cafe. We had a scone and my husband was surprised how soft they are (too used to having them in America). I had a latte that was very smooth and delicious foam. Sorry I didn't get your name-the employee was very kind and welcoming. While I'm around I would definitely revisit!

Today I paid £3.80 for a flat white and the service was the worst, so much so I have had to write this post and I am not one for complaining. All tables, dirty. 3 staff, one on a break sitting on the nicest spot in the cafe, talking across the cafe to the server behind coffee machine, another out for a cigarette- who obviously shouldn't have been as the other 2 discussed it, loudly! She also didn't wash her hands when she came back in and instead of cleaning tables stood behind the counter chatting about her cigarette break..... I asked for the table and chairs which was covered in pastry to be cleaned, the server wiped it with his hand 🤣 so I went and got a cloth by myself and cleaned it!!! I was actually taken a back with how shocking the service was. Finished my coffee and met my friend at another coffee spot. Will not be back and feel sorry for the owner as their staff to put it bluntly are taking the p***

No cash, scones served without clotted cream, not a huge tea selection. Very busy and noisy.

Felt very unwelcome. This place is tiny and all tables were taken. Asked a staff member if I could squeeze into a small table with water glasses on it. Flat no, and no attempt made to ask if I wanted a coffee to go. Normally love this place and staff have always been lovely, but very poor experience today.

Nice coffee, location and interior, but the rudest barista we have ever encountered. Glared at us and didn’t say a word in the transaction beyond asking whether it was to take away. We came half an hour before closing time for a takeaway coffee and got treated like we had wandered in ten minute after they closed demanding service.

A hidden gem in a busy neighborhood. The cafe is really cozy and nice but super small. If you managed to grab a place inside conder yourself lucky. If not there a whole terrace outside. So if the weather permits you might be even luckier.

Early in the morning, when the sun wasn't up, I decided to have a coffee and went to a local cafe. It was a small cafe located in a semi-basement area, but there was a constant stream of customers looking for a good coffee place. There were many reviews saying that the latte was good, so I ordered it with a scone, and my friend who couldn't escape the Parisian scene remembers having a croissant or pain au chocolat instead of a scone. The price is about 8 pounds all together. The scones were studded with raisins, so they weren't plain and didn't have that characteristic dryness. Compared to Korean scones, they are twice the size and must be spread with strawberry jam and butter (clotted cream) to make them less bitey. Since I don't know much, I feel that all lattes are okay as long as they are not bland and bland. Although I was like that, I got the impression that the latte here had a strong, rich flavor, perhaps a strong coffee bean flavor. Actually, I don't know if there's a big difference because coffee in Europe is average everywhere, but I remember this cafe because it's my style of cafe with a clean atmosphere that doesn't stand out. Please note that in addition to scones, there are also cakes.

We had a wonderful chai latte made by the super friendly Dayne, love this place! It’s great that they are open til later, one of the few places in the city centre.

Such a delightful little find! A great place for an excellent cup of coffee and the cakes look amazing. Super small and rugged- a cozy nook to read or catch up with a friend. The turn around for tables is quite good too so even if it's busy you might not be waiting for long. This place gave me that main character feeling. Will definitely be returning (especially to try one of the bakes- it took a lot to resist the urge to buy one)

It is a great place to try good quality coffee, very mellow and homely. I didn't get a seat the first time I visited so I ordered a long black for take away. This time, I ordered a single macchiato and got a seat. Cannot say faults to both, very delicious.

Found this place on Google maps. The place is intimate and cozy, the scones are delicious and the carrot cake as well. We had a tea with it and was very good. The girl was nice and professional. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a lovely place where to grab tea or coffee with someone!

It’s said to be the best scones in Edinburgh and it’s worthy of the name. Fruit scone with clotted cream and jam is a must-try. The flat white is good too. There are fewer than 10 seats inside. So be prepared to wait when you are planing to dine-in in a rainy day.

Lovely little cafe! Arrived right when they opened and had a nice latte and croissant. Nice seating inside, a little set back from the street.

Great experience, high recommended. A café where you feel that it is something special, extremely beautiful and more interesting than any other. It's actually quite ordinary, tiny and quite dark because it's below pavement level. But if you sit there, order coffee and scones with butter, watch the hustle and bustle of the street through the window and enjoy the atmosphere, you'll be very happy. I promise you that.
