Wellington Coffee in Edinburgh, City of

Coffee is expensive (over 4 pounds for a regular) and the beans taste crazy. Reminds me of Wellington NZ. :)))) Nice quality. Located under the footpath.

Nothing special: few options of traditional coffees, scones and croissants. Few tables (around 6), if you want to sit down get there early. Access is difficult for those with limited mobility, as it is in a basement and only has stairs. The bathroom was under maintenance. The price is more expensive than other cafes.

Best scones in town. Very large and delicious scones with enough clotted cream and jam.

Amazing coffee - definitely worth a visit! Why would people sit across the road drinking a Starbucks when they can cross the road and have an AMAZING coffee!

All of the staff seemed to have a terrible attitude. Despite the place being almost empty, they had 3 members of staff just having a conversation amongst themselves for around 10 mins while I was waiting on my takeaway cappuccino (which I had already paid for). Eventually one guy asked me if I was waiting for something. He then made the coffee and handed it to me with no word of apology. Terrible service, not worth it at all when there's plenty of other places nearby who are very friendly.

DONT GO! 10€ for 2 cappuccinos and they didn’t have toilet it was “broken” and the told me to go to Starbucks if I want to go to the toilet .There are so many nice coffee places to go to Edinburgh don’t go there

They don’t have much space, so we chose to take out. We ordered a hot americano and a latte, they were average. and we thought their coffee had a more sour taste.

If I could I would give this place four and a half stars. The inside area is perhaps a little bit too cosy (good luck finding somewhere to sit in the winter) and the outside sitting area could do with a little more shade and unfortunately attracts a lot of discarded cigarettes from the passers by. Still, it's my favourite place in the area for a cup of tea.

Lower part of a building, it is small but very comfortable, clean and good treatment. I recommend it

Delicious mocha🤗, sat outside in February as there were no seats left indoors, could do with some kind of heating outside as well as some decor such as fairy lights or something.

Service was as indifferent as the coffee and as cold as the air.

Coffee was okay, has a little bit of a sour after taste. Definetly not worth the asking price.

Just a flour-flavored scone... It's big, but there's nothing special about the taste, the store is too small, and the coffee is just so-so. Employees are friendly

Cosy and worm cafe. Staff are very friendly and their sweets are just great. Although they don't have filter coffee, their Americano is good. Recommended.

Bought some cakes to take away - brownies, shortbread and flapjacks. The friend I was taking them to had a nut allergy, so I asked at the counter if nuts were present in the food. Really disappointed to have been advised that the flapjacks contained 'seeds, but no nuts', to bite into them later on and discover that they did contain nuts. Not sure why this advice is being wrongly given out, which could have been highly dangerous for my friend. This will put me off returning, due to the staff not having adequate knowledge about what they are serving. I did try to contact Wellington about this on the day, but no answer via phone and they do not seem to have active social media.

Cozy coffee shop with nice pastries. The cheese and jalapeño scone was fab! Nice staff, good atmosphere. The floor however was a bit dirty, other than that it was a nice place to grab a quick bite.

We had breakfast several days and the cappuccino and pastries were delicious, highly recommended. I hope we can return to Edinburgh one day

Muy pequeña cafetería en la esquina de George Street y Hanover Street. Asientos limitados, pero buena sincronización significaba que podía tener un poco de respiro del frío. Gran cappucino, bien croissant, pero una gran lista de reproducción!

El scone merece mucho la pena, café muy rico y ambiente agradable aunque algo pequeño como para pasar más tiempo. Personal agradable, el croissnat tenía una pinta exquisita ! Para volver ! El único pero es que no sirven matcha

EDIT: I had to change this review from a 5 stars to a 3 stars. I used to be a regular at this place, but I barely come back since the massive price increase and the change in staff. Unfortunately, the quality of the drink has gone down with the prices going up and it’s not worth it to get an okay hot chocolate for more than 5 pounds. The pastries are still as lovely, but this isn’t a place I would recommend anymore… (Some of the best coffee in Edinburgh! Their blends, drinks, and pastries are all lovely and the staff is always nice. Fully recommend for coffee lovers!)

Very good flat white. We had the carrot cake and it is delicious. The place is small but cute. If it is warm, I would suggest sitting on the street to see both the castle and the ocean.

When we visit the cafe, there weren't any available seats in the morning because it was already packed with people. This means how popular the place is! So we queued for a while and finally enjoyed a cup of coffee. I recommend the croissant than scone

Scones are delicious But when I asked them to pack scones for me, the employee with pierced hair gave me a bag of bread and refused to give me the cream even though I could have packed it. Is that why they can't pack the cream? When I asked them, they gave it to me and threw me a spoon to put the cream in. Haha;; Ah, getting to work. Don't like it

El café de esta semana es horrible, no caliente, de sabor agrio y débil. Hice este comentario al personal que no parecía importarle. Servicio lento. Fuera del menú anticuado, no hay huevos... no volverá.

The coffee was awful and also really expensive. The staff were fine but not the service I usually expect. Very disappointing overall.

Unfortunately, although everything looked very good, I couldn't consume anything because it was half an hour before closing and according to the young lady behind the counter it was too late to sit down. I insisted saying that I really needed a cup of tea to warm me up but she replied that there were no free tables when there was one full of glasses which nobody knows why it couldn't be freed and at another there was a boy sitting at the table. computer that had clearly long since finished its life. Now I can understand that maybe it's boring to serve a customer when closing time approaches but there is a way and a way. I have read other criticisms that reflect my experience today and I wonder how it is possible to keep a business open with such listless and indifferent staff.

I had a scone and brownie coffee. The scone had raisins in it and it was soft. Coffee is also delicious.

The perfect place if you like tepid coffee, charged at the highest rate and served by surly and disengaged servers. I also ordered a Rooibos tea for my wife. What was presented was unlike anything we've ever tasted - more like the leftover dust from every other herbal tea in the cupboard. A very unpleasant experience indeed. 👎😵‍💫

Excellent coffee and pastry. Full stop - that’s it - all you need to know! However for more details: the baristas that served me on three occasions over our short break to E were great, knowing about coffee prep and pulling a good shot. I enjoyed a proper expresso, nice flavours going on with lovely mouthfeel. What’s more the flapjack was stupendous, really nutty with seeds and slightly spicy buttery sweetness…I took my third lump up to scoff atop Arthur’s Seat and the sun came out. Totally recommend. Support independence, avoid commercial StarB. and BlkShp etc

Delicious scones~!! Ah, I ate a scone with raisins in it. The coffee is okay, and the scones don't have a chewy texture, but are moist, with a texture somewhere in between puffy and moist. I didn't like the London Gale because it was just like bread. Even though I like things that are bold, it was just right.

This was a wonderful little cafe, conveniently located in New Town. We sort of stumbled upon this little cafe on our first walk through Edinburgh, and we were delightfully surprised by the quality of the drinks and service.

Terrible service. The food is good but the staff is disrespectful and rude. While ordering you feel like you're bothering the staff, especially the girl with the short hair. We left after she was rude and she didn't even apologize and just said they were having a bad day in a complaining way. Not worth it

We were invited to leave because it was almost time to close even though there was still one hour left for closing. When we wanted to clarify a girl with very short hair said that they were having a terrible day so they weren’t going to serve us and we could do take away if we liked. I think if you don’t like to face customers maybe you should find another type of job.

Excellent scones, terrible service

Wonderful little coffee shop below Penhaligons. What it lacks in size it makes up for in atmosphere with small tables nestled next to one-another. The flat white was as I like it with silky textured milk and rounded extraction, not too bitter or sour. Beans were on the robust side but not dark. Pastries were fresh with the Pain aux Chocolate rich and luxurious. Been back multiple times and always consistently good.

This is hands down the best coffee in Edinburgh. Being from Melbourne, it’s near impossible to find a decent coffee here. This place nailed it. The scones are great as well.

Was recommended this coffee place by the receptionist at my hotel. As a coffee enthusiast, I had high hopes from the glowing recommendation. The americano I had was incredibly weak and not great in flavour. Especially for £4.10 A redeeming factor was the scones, both the chilli and cheese and fruit scones were nice

Another one of these Edinburgh coffee houses serving Latte in a small cup and charging £4.30 for the privilege. I said to the server that's a Flat White measure, and a Latte should be 8oz. His reply " Sorry that's the size of our cups" Cheated yet again.

Very good small café with a few tables inside and a few outside (at least in summer). Delicious cheese and jalapeño scone and very good (and well-made) coffee. Nice staff and atmosphere!

I don’t make it to Edinburgh very often, maybe 3 times in 40 years, but my first stop is Wellington for the best Flat White you can find north of the border. Scone was mighty fine too, even if I was offered cream and jam with a fruit scone - heaven forbid. Butter, please.

Scones and strong, acidic coffee are delicious. It's a shame that you can't get a seat if you go during busy times because there aren't many tables, but it's a small but cozy cafe.

It's not often I complain but crap customer service is unacceptable. Festival or not. Came here with two friends for coffee, male staff didn't acknowlege me to order, it was like was doing him a favour by being there. Two coffees and a lemonade (£12!) and then offered at checkout to add a tip. Went outside but but there was only two seats spare (which my friend and young daughter took) and I said I would stand and try and grab a seat if it came up. A female brought our drinks, no service with a smile - I asked if I could grab a chair from inside to bring outside. She bluntly said NO. Not - I am so sorry / I will go and ask. I was going say good customer service and a welcoming attitude cost nothing - but I won't - it has cost you three customers that won't be back. I am local and disappointed.

Love this place but there was an incredibly rude lady with a shaved head. When I walked in and asked if I order before sitting down she looked at me like I was an idiot. She then went on to be horrible to two tourist who took a picture and she seemed highly offended by being in the picture. Not ideal I understand but there is a polite way to deal with it. She then went on to loudly tell colleagues a story of it happening before and cursing throughout the story for everyone to hear. Nice guy on the till gave me a refund so she didn’t have to stay.

Superbly made cappuccino, very consistent and delicious!

We just had coffee here, the most wonderful shortbread, just as it should be. However the coffee, whilst a lovely flavour was best decribed as 'very warm' so I returned it, these things happed, after a life time in catering I should know. I received a less than friendly response. The replacement coffee's were warmer but not hot, I drank my coffee in two goes. However the 'death stare' was really hot and came with no apology. I have always taught people that if things go wrong, get over it, it happens, it is what you do afterwards counts. I will always support the independent and will not go to chains but independents should always remember that no one owes them a living.
