One of the best places for breakfast! Their coffee is awesome also.

Great to visit the birchwood bistro n wine for a quick early brunch. The service was very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the delicious Eggs Benedict with salmon and a nice strong black americano roast bru. Will surely be visiting again

Birchwood is my new favourite brunch place in Edinburgh. Delicious food, coffee and brilliant service.

Our first time at Birchwood and we will definitely be back. It is a great little neighbourhood cafe for enjoying coffee and a pastry, or a slap-up breakfast. It was pretty busy by the time we left but the service was prompt and friendly (with genuine smiles). They appear to be dog friendly as well (a well-behaved pooch sat next to us). Portion sizes are good, too.

Food was good, nice selection, everything looks delicious, however, service was very slow. They seemed to have maybe forgotten about our cheque and it took around 40 minutes to get our order. Also, it got quite loud, even though the place is rather small, but that's just probably due to it being busy on Saturday noon.

Después de un fin de semana ajetreado pasamos un encantador brunch relajante domingo aquí en The Birchwood. Es un lugar acogedor y bien administrado donde el personal trabaja duro y sin alborotos ni fanfarrias, para asegurarse de que sus huéspedes tengan una gran experiencia. El café es tan bueno, y en nuestra visita anterior tuve un Bloody Mary que era bastante exquisito! Esta vez, tuve el aguacate aplastado en tostadas de masa agria con dos huevos escalfados perfectos, ensalada cohete, mermelada de chile y tocino agregado en la parte superior. No exagero cuando digo que es uno de los brunch más deliciosos que he tenido. Estoy muy agradecida con el equipo aquí por un brunch realmente encantador. Como diría Tina Turner, “Simplemente lo mejor”.

Used to come here quite a lot about 3 years ago, and it was lovely. I'm not sure if management has changed but the service was very poor today. Took 45 minutes from our order being taken to our food arriving at the table, and the quality of the food has changed for the worse. I was also served a caffeinated coffee instead of the decaf I ordered - I didn't raise this as I only realised when we left and I could feel the caffeine rush.

Amazing variety and quality of gluten free options - plus generous service and nice ambience. We went three days in a row visiting 😍

Great place for brunch, lunch and coffee. Really cosy space with welcoming staff. The eggs benedict with sriracha hollaindaise were excellent. Lots of delicious veggie options too if you need. One of my favourite brunch spots in Edinburgh.

Lovely time at the bistro last week - service was really quick and our server Yara was very friendly and helpful.

I've enjoyed all visits here, having food or hot drinks. Suggest to book around busy times, eg lunch.

Used to be one of our favourites, went back after a while. It was expensive (over £17 for an avocado toast with sausage and fish - just about enough for a small lunch), our drinks never arrived (no apology), and the service was… say no more.

Thought I'd go in for a little treat and get myself some brunch. There's only one other person in there so it just seemed like a nice quiet place to go. There was a sign saying wait to be seated. However, I waited there and the woman said hi, but then didn't really offer me a place to sit. I really wish people would have only used that sign if they mean it. Sat down and the menu looked nice so I ordered the avocado toast. But I almost left before it arrived because the three girls working there were just chatting away so loud that it just wasn't a nice atmosphere at all. Obviously not expecting people to work in silence or anything but the only other guy in there had a finger in his ear... Another a couple arrived and they were clearly chatting to each other at a reasonable volume. I couldn't hear them so it wasn't an acoustics thing. Just bad awareness and inconsiderate staff. I would recommend the avocado on toast but the atmosphere and the disconnect in the service really ruined it for me. I actually left the moment I've finished because I just couldn't bear listen any more to a conversation about tips and how unfairly they're dealt out for any longer. I had my headphones on and I could still hear all their conversation. Don't go there if you want to chill relaxed vibe. Do go there if you don't mind having to listen to someone else's conversation because the food was good.

Second time visiting The Birchwood and it’s a lovely spot for some wholesome brunch. Great selection on the menu and the staff / kitchen are very accommodating when it comes to substitutions which is so appreciated! Service could be a bit faster and the toilets could do with more regular attention / cleaning as they were pretty messy during the visit.

Visited Edinburgh City for fringe and went near Meadows Park near by we went The Birchwood bistro & wine car cafe for breakast it was so delicious home made dishes menu, wooow coffee, friendly staffs outdoor seating, variety drinks and also during week stay we went evening on Friday for dinner decent spanish tapas, meat n cheese boards variety wine and sprits, very cosy atmosphere, will visit again and recommend visit wonderful place for Scottish breakfast till brunch and weekends for evening, will be back next time soon

Great breakfast experience just after getting into Edinburgh. Staff was very accommodating a tired group and all of our massive bags. Stop by for the Smashed Avocado Toast and Banana Bread.

Food was good, but don't go here if you're more than middle-aged. I am a female in my early seventies, and was consistently addressed as darlin'. The rest of our party were all in their forties, and the only other woman was addressed as ma'am. I was insulted. I will not be returning.

Really good food for a good price - the ambience was really nice and nice level of good music playing in the background. A very relaxed and friendly vibe.

Phoned in advance to ask whether they could accommodate me with hearing impairment, since I was meeting a colleague for lunch to discuss a project. Assured that could have a corner table, away from door and noise. On arrival, told that corner table away from door was booked, rest of space was busy and was given table right by door - no sign that they had thought about or remembered my request. Really difficult 2 hours struggling to get discussion finalised; waitress didn't check we were OK, whether we wanted anything else, and I had to go to bar to order coffees.

My wife and I decided to pop by here for breakfast a couple of weeks ago, and boy, are we glad we did. We luckily managed to get a last minute booking as it was quite busy. The café itself exudes an earthy charm, filled with home-grown plants, creating a welcoming ambiance. The staff were welcoming on arrival and accommodating throughout our visit. The menu has a great selection from your usual go to breakfasts/lunches, to some more unique options. Thankfully the menu wasn’t too vast that and it was manageable to choose. For drinks we got a couple of smoothies. Both were excellent and flavoursome. For food my wife went with the full Scottish. They forgot the beans but it was quickly rectified. My wife couldn’t complain about her breakfast. Everything was cooked well and tasted great. I probably would’ve preferred more runny beans which you could lather the other food in but she quite likes the thicker beans. I was a greedy chops and got 2 items. Firstly I had the toasted brioche roll with Pork sausage, tattie scone and sriracha mayo. This was simple but so amazing!! Bun was crispy on the outer and soft centre. The mayo just hit the spot, yum yum! Easily the best breakfast roll I’ve ever had. I was drawn to the lumberjack French toast so I also indulged into this as well. The toast was like slabs - so thick! The smothering sauce was delicious. Amazing texture and wonderful taste. Overall a tremendous breakfast and experience. Very satisfied. I have since been again and the standards have been kept.

Customer service was quite awful. One girl was just not nice, the other one was lovely but they never check on you, they forgot stuff every time like cutlery or salt and pepper and it took ages for them to stop chatting or only take care of new or paying customers, they took ages to remove my plate and then the not so nice girl told me they needed the table by 1pm which was 40 mins away. Didn't expect to stay that long but since she didn't bring cutlery nor came to check if the food was fine for a while, I couldn't start eating and then I wanted the bill for a while but just had to wait cause they wouldn't even check my table and it's a tiny place, she then just looked annoyed I was still there and came running with the card reader as if it was my fault she didn't check on me to clear out the table before the reservation showed up. Food was lovely, really liked it, it was a pity they don't really care about the customer experience.

The best brunch in Edimbourg!! Everything was so delicious.

Not great, tables a bit sticky and staff while friendly and polite got the order wrong twice. Plain avo on toast order came topped with poached eggs, chilli sauce and rocket. Food okay but more complicated than needed to be. King Benedict made with sriracha mayo instead of hollandaise. Worth trying but there's better options in Edinburgh.

Such a lovely brunch spot on the way into Edinburgh. We ended up coming here twice because the food was so good. We managed to get seated without booking each time but you can reserve a table. Would highly recommend this as a breakfast spot if you’re visiting the city as it’s a nice walk into town from here.

We went for breakfast and both had the porridge, which was very nice. The cafe is quite small and busy, both the food and the service were excellent. We will visit again on our next trip to Edinburgh.

Nice little corner place. Great food, wide selection in the menu (it even has a tempting little morning alcohol section). Coffee is strongly acidic so careful about that if you like it oldschool

The breakfast this morning was a total rip off , the hollandaise sauce was bland and runny and the breakfast was not the usual standard. With a mean attitude to the food .. what’s happened Birchwood !!! And also the prices have gone way up . The only good thing about this cafe is the lovely friendly staff who are always attentive and helpful . They are the only reason I would want to go back.

Managed to accommodate us without a booking, food was lovely and service really quick!

Apart from the two bone heads at the next table who chatted loudly about CO2 emissions and then increased the tariff by talking about how to measure farts, noise, smell and duration. An off putting conversation for my lunch.

This café is a real gem. A short walk from our winter break accommodation. It was so good on our first morning we followed up with two more visits. Very friendly staff made us feel welcome. The full breakfast is very good. The Smashed Avocado is a triumph! A superb plate of food especially with optional bacon. Highly recommended. Note....Worth reserving a table even for breakfast.

My wife and I had a lovely brunch here. We both had the sausage, potato scone and sriracha hollandaise on a beautiful brioche bun - it was delicious! The coffee was lovely too and we shared a gooey choc orange brownie. It was a nice chilled atmosphere and our server was very friendly. I'd definitely go back here and recommend to others. The menu has a great selection so I'm looking forward to trying more dishes 👌🏽

I won't complain about the food taste, but since I came here after I red the reviews, I would say that this place is very overrated. The price is decent enough, but the food quality is very standard, and nothing seems unique here to say "Excellent" or "Gorgeous" .

The table tops in this place are disgustingly sticky and tacky. We asked for our table to be cleaned but we were told it was clean, it just had a sticky surface. We observed the tables being cleaned with a spray and a cloth which seemed to just spread the detritus around. Soapy wAter and a clean cloth might be better. The kids with us ordered beans on toast from the kids menu but they were some kind of up -market beans and bread. The kids wouldn’t eat them. Kids usually like something bog standard. ….Sliced buttered bread and Heinz would have done the trick. The service was slow.

During our holiday in Edinburgh, we ended up visiting The Birchwood three mornings in a row as it was so good. The food was fantastic (both tasty and great portions), the service was great, and the ambience was lovely. Would highly recommend!

Outstanding. The food is superb - it tastes, and is presented, like it is from a high end restaurant. The ingredients are stunning - the mushrooms very tasty and it was and it was great to taste genuine Stornoway black pudding (so many restaurants claim to sell it - but do not). If the food was not enough to give this place 5 stars, the service is also tremendous: friendly, efficient and informative

I just dropped in for a quick coffee and croissant. Staff were lovely and food and coffee were great. It was very quiet, but I was very early in the day. The scones looked amazing!

Such an amazing selection of breakfast/brunch delights. I had the veggie breakfast and my husband had the regular breakfast. Both were excellent. I can’t wait to return to try some of the other options such as mushrooms on toast.

Table reserved for 12.30. No water brought to table. Table needed to be wiped. Order for soup and sandwich put in swiftly. No mention of delay in service. At 12.35 the waitress returned to say that they had run out of soup on notice board and replaced it with cream of mushroom. No menu brought to table to order a replacement. Requested a bacon and egg roll which I remembered was on menu. Coffee arrived at 1.45. Food did not arrive until 1.10. Other diners who had arrived after us had been served. When we complained we were told the chef had put chilli jam on my order so it had to be done again. No information had been given until I complained. The waitress said they had been unexpectedly busy. This cafe is fine for a coffee but I would never return to eat here again. I didn't even enjoy my roll as I had to rush to eat it as it took so long to arrive.

I was looking for a brunch place away from city Centre (George street ) and I came across Birchwood randomly as I was browsing google maps. Best discovery! I cannot talk high enough for the people who run the place. From the call to book to the service during our visit, extremely friendly, polite and helpful! And when you thing that kindness top of the positive impressions, then... brunch was served! easily ranking top Benny's I have ever got in the city! I was conscious at the start about how spice the sriracha hollandaise would be, but it was very mild and pleasant (highly recommended). Equally very tasty was the avocado toast. Finally, worth to mention that the coffee is very good as well, the brew is very mild and give you a sense sweetness. Definitely, it is not the "default" strong-bitter brew that the majority of the brunch places serve as usually oversees the importance of good coffee brew. Highly recommended place and for sure we will be visiting again. [Parking Note] easy to find parking in a radius of 2-5 mins, but it is with parking meter, the normal Mon-Fri up to 5.30pm, so weekends is for free.

This is a great brunch stop for classic breakfast items and some sandwich and soup options. I tried to french toast which was so amazing and would highly recommend. Brunch for three with coffees and some extra sides was about $45USD, very reasonable.

We had the breakfast plate. The best cooked poached eggs I've ever had. I'm always dubious about poached eggs, but they cooked to perfection. The paprika beans were a bit strange, but that's just personal taste. We came back later for hot chocolate and shared a biscoff filled cookie and a chocolate brownie. Best brownie I've ever had. Lovely and soft and chocolatey in the middle. Would highly recommend. It was very busy at breakfast, so would recommend booking. We managed to sit at a high top.
