Great coffee and cake. Hubby had a slice of Millionaire Shortbread and our friend and I had the BEST carrot cake 😋😋. Steve and Trudy welcomed us with warmth and huge happy smiles. They offer a varied breakfast/light lunch menu as well as loads of specialty jams & chutney’s to buy. If we could give The Cake House 10 stars we absolutely would. Thank you.

As a coeliac whom also has lactose intolerence, eating out & feeling safe with peoples knowledge when cooking etc can be a battle. I emailed the corner house cafe enquiring & received a v in depth & reassuring reply, hence my visit x2. I had the chicken / bacon panini melt with salad and a lovely bowl of chips, all made lovingly and carefully to ensure I was served delicious safe food. The waitresses were v thorough and asked relevant questions and answered any query I had, all with a smile. I defo recommend and will defo be back when I next visit the dales. Thank you all 😀

We booked a table for 3 (+dog) for a Sunday lunch visit. Everything about the Fountaine Inn is first class. The building itself is what I'd call a 'proper pub'. Very old, cosy, fire roaring, & a mix of locals and visitors. We had a mix of food from the menu including the Sunday lunch which was a big portion. The staff & service however was top of my list. Excellent and nothing too much trouble. Highly recommended. Round of your walk in the stunning area with a visit.

A fabulous bacon butty! On par with my Dad’s! The atmosphere was lively too. Grand fire and homemade cakes. See you soon! Annabel, Jamie and Molly dog.

Cafe itself is pretty, lovely seating area out the back with heater and toilets. Visiting today for xmas fair, myself and sister, brother who have brought our elderly, disabled mother to Hawes for the weekend as we all live in various areas of the country and rarely get together, our mum is not of good health so we are trying to spend time with her when we can. We came in the back entrance to the outside seating area through the gate as my mum needed the toilet and we have to help her so we left her walker outside the gate. My brother went into the cafe to purchase cake and coffee as we were using the facilities, to be told by a very stern faced stressed server that she didn't have time (or words to that effect). After using the toilet (admittedly myself and my sister used it while we were there with mum), we went to leave via same gate as mums walker was out there, when said server came out of cafe, asked if we were OK but more of asking what we were doing way than actually checking if we needed help. There is a no exit sign on gate however as said we needed mum's walker. So I just said yes thanks my mum's walkers on other side of gate. She then asked if we came in the same way, my sister said yes and the server proceeded to launch into a torrade of speaking to us in a loud voice ( with tables full of customers) about how we shouldn't be coming in and out that way, asked if we had bought anything from the cafe, at which point my sister pointed out my brother had tried to purchase something. Server then stuttered and said yes well I don't have time to do you takeaway - it's a cafe, and we were paying customers, then repeatedly said you've used toilets not bought anything 'it's not fair' was said multiple times, and continued to speak to us like children and made a scene infront of the other customers. Myself and my sister are both nurses and therefore understand more so empathy and caring and understanding, but regardless of this we are absolutely amazed how a person can speak to other people this way, the lack of respect and condescension, lack of kindness and compassion. Absolutely disgusting this lady should be ashamed of the way she has conducted herself today, and lost business. We tried to purchase goods and were told no. In the grand scheme of things does it really matter that my mum used the toilet and we opened the gate?? We understand everybody has bad days and cannot always be cheery but I have never been spoken to in my life the way she spoke to us today. And how she upset my mum for using the toilet, so much so she asked to go home, therefore we didn't spend what we would have in the other local businesses. Such a shame.

This is a regular coffee stop for us & is popular with our relatives from further away. The food is always very fresh with a good selection whether you’re just having a coffee & a delicious cake ( can recommend the scones or the apricot flapjack!) or brunch, lunch or afternoon tea! We had a family celebration here a while ago & we were overwhelmed with the efforts the staff went to to make the day special - excellent food & very friendly waiting staff. The staff are well informed about the food on offer & happy to cater for different needs. Our favourite place for a friendly cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate- we’ve tried them all! Only trouble is that lots of other people seem to think so too so get there early!

A proper pub! No frills, just good honest Yorkshire hospitality. Okay, so the bedrooms and decor could do with a full refurb, but so what! Our room was clean and tidy, and the bed frame may have belonged in a museum, but it was very comfortable. Breakfast was made to order and very good. Freshly brewed coffee and plenty of it. And, the dumb waiter in the corner of the dining room, seemed natural in this quirky old building. The staff, and locals, were all friendly and welcoming which added to the warm atmosphere.
