This was the first time we have been into this cafe and I have to say 'cafe' does not do it justice, there is nothing 'greasy spoon' about it, it is has much more of a calm, classy, European vibe. It is simply furnished and somewhat understated, the seats are relatively comfortable and tables are spaced nicely. There is pleasing music playing which is not intrusive or too loud, and not a radio thank goodness. I also noted that they did not have condensed windows which is something I often see with cafes and something that actually really puts me off going in as I hate the feeling of humidity. The menu was absolutely fabulous with wonderful options made up from things like sour bread, paninis, croissants, brioche, chutneys, rocket other speciality breads, pesto, smashed avocado, goats cheese etc and I can vouch that the tea is a quality brand tea served in a sensible size 'chic' mug and not one a silly teacup. Like I said NOT a greasy spoon cafe at all. There was also a lovely selection of fresh homemade cakes. This is now a favourite place to stop for brunch or lunch when visiting the shops in Eastbourne.

30+ people local from a group in Eastbourne booked in advance for the lunch First only could see one server. Had to collect own drinks and pay from the bar. The same person eventually asked everyone for orders Starters eventually arrived Then she pressured everyone to pay for the meal. . Which I did wish I had not. We all waited for the main course, again one server who mixed up each order at least for my table of 6 even left one plate of food saying it must be somebody’s so we could all breath over it . She realised that she had got the table mixed up and removed the plate of food as it was another tables By this time, I had enough one thing I cannot stand is bad service. So, I left They were unprepared for large group but could not cope lacked sufficient staff Will never again use this restaurant

Lovely food and really great for kids! They were super friendly and my boys love playing with all the toys before their dinner. Thanks a lot!

Much improved from previous Stage Door. Handsome interior design enhancing the original pub’s fine features. Staff very helpful and friendly. Limited menu, but very tasty food. Ranging from burgers to more sophisticated options. We had the special. Excellent views over the tennis courts. Highly recommend.

A lovely little bakery. Good selection of breads and cakes. Rolls are between 50p and 70p. Sunflower, sesame, multiseed, cheese, plain, olive and herb flavours. They also do filled rolls/baguettes. Seating outside and inside. Not open on Sundays. You can pay on card, no payment minimum.

We’d been before and had a nice experience, but this time it was just awful. It was very busy so we expected to have to wait a little longer than normal, but clearly the staff were just overwhelmed by how busy it was. The large table in the window was free so we sat there. Only trouble was it was piled high with plates, cups, and left-over food from previous customers. On ordering at the counter we asked for it to be cleared when they had a moment. It became obvious that moment would never come so eventually we cleared it ourselves and dumped it all on another table. We asked for the still dirty table to be wiped but that wasn’t going to happen so we asked for a cloth and did it ourselves. We patiently waited, and waited and waited some more for our food to arrive. At some point we were informed that some of what we ordered was no longer available so we revised the order to something much simpler, and waited. Still nothing. In the meantime lots of takeaway customers arrived and left with their food. We waited some more. Some people at a nearby table seemed to be having a similar experience and actually gave up and got their money back. We enquired about our order more than once by the way. Eventually we got exasperated and told the staff that if they hadn’t yet started our order that we’d just get a refund and leave, only to have the member of staff doing the cooking shout at us “ don’t you want it now?” And then something about it not being her fault because the counter staff had done something wrong with the order tickets. Finally we got some food. Not what we had ordered originally but fine. It’s close to where we live, but we won’t be back. I don’t wish the place any ill will, but there are so many other places in Eastbourne, just as good, which can cope with being busy ( a sunny Sunday afternoon in August, who’d have thought ) to have to put up with this.

Upstairs in C@H. I had a lovely slice of coffee cake and a pot of tea. Perfect for a quick pitstop. Very reasonable price. Friendly service, background music catering for trad style tearooms, but not too intrusive. Tables clean. Not at all hurried.

Awful.. We use to always meet here for lunch and a girls catch-up. Been today. Menu has completely changed and not for the better. Kitchen closed….now 2 poor girls having to take the orders, make the drinks and the food then deliver to the tables. The one star I have given is purely for them. They were working so hard I hope they are well rewarded. Two other tables heard us talking and said they will also not be returning. Such a shame.
