Lovely food and really great for kids! They were super friendly and my boys love playing with all the toys before their dinner. Thanks a lot!

Visited here for the first time whilst on holiday nearby and had a very nice experience. Lovely range of homemade cakes with a good varied and very reasonably priced menu. Service was polite and prompt with a smile. Opted for a fruit scone (warmed up) with jam (cream also available if you wanted) and a black americano coffee whilst my partner chose a love heart cupcake all of which was served in a timely fashion and very tasty. This is a lovely independent village cafe which deserves great support do give it a try when passing by - you won’t be disappointed.

If your a cake princess then this is the place for you, pink is the dominant decor. The chocolate vegan cake is amazing, can’t help but smile in this cake/cafe

First time here, the girls were great in ensuring we were all catered for carefully. We were a difficult group having afternoon tea ...., so we had vegan requirements, plus two of us had anaphylaxis, being allergic to separate things. Lots of cakes on our three tier cake stands, great coffee and walnut! Exceptional coffee.

Our second visit to the Love Cake Cafe, popped in for some milk shakes and coffee. Friendly service so much choice, don't think about the calories.... Just enjoy it! Children both chose oreo freak shakes and I went for a peanut butter milkshake which was really peanuty (?!), latte was nothing out of the ordinary... But that's not why we came! We'll be back!

Called in here for the first time and got a very warm welcome. We sat at the front of the café which was both good and bad! Good because there were about 5 toddlers shrieking at the back but bad because we were close to the door opening and shutting and it was a very cold day. Coffee was very nice as was the cake and the service was excellent. It was reasonably priced, too. Not sure if kids are a regular feature here but I think we would probably avoid it in the future just in case. Shame as it could be a really enjoyable watering hole!!

Really bad service. Booked in for afternoon tea and we had to go up to the counter to order the tea even though we were the only party in there. Food wasn't good and absolutely rubbish for vegetarians and non existant for vegans. I thought Meads would know better! My friend and I were forgotten the week before! A hot cup of black coffee was passed over my friend's pram which made us really cringe. Luckily there was no spillage!

Had a fab afternoon tea here on my birthday last week with two friends. The prices were great (much cheaper than equivalent places in Brighton), and we were given very generous amounts of cake, the remainder of which we were able to take away with us. The milkshakes are fantastic - thick and frothy, even the standard menu includes many different flavours (and that's without including the freakshakes - that have to be seen to be believed!!). The atmosphere was relaxed even when it got busier, and the cafe feels like a fun but chilled place to spend some time. We were there on a weekday, during the summer holidays, and when we arrived at 1ish there was virtually no one around. Once we'd been there for half an hour or so it started to fill up, but it didn't feel too crowded as the tables aren't too close together. I noticed there are lots of childrens' toys and menu options, so it's definitely a family-friendly place. All the staff were lovely, accommodating and helpful. All the cakes look yummy & tempting (I had some of the best carrot cake I've ever tasted!!), the scones tasted fresh & not excessively heavy, and the sandwiches were generously-filled and tasty. There is on-street parking outside, as well as in the surrounding streets, but keep an eye on your watch as it's mostly restricted to 2 hours. Also, note that the afternoon tea option has to be booked in advance, but staff are very responsive on Facebook Messenger so this wasn't a problem at all. Afternoon tea was only £12.50 each, which is incredible value when you consider that most places will charge you at least £20 a head, and you'd get considerably less for your money than at Love Cake. The milkshakes weren't included in that price, but we were happy to add that to the bill for an extra £3 each. All-in-all a fantastic afternoon in a quirky, refreshingly different cafe - we'll be back soon!! 5*😋😀

Came her to meet a friend and kids, arrived at 2pm, staff shortage resulted in dirty tables so no-where to sit, however they confirmed staff shortage and extremely busy they actually shut the café to new comers for 20 mins to catch up. We waited for our table to be cleaned, then sat. Just cake and coffees with a couple of milkshakes ordered, all turned up in good time with a smile although stressed. Worth a visit for the cakes, they are to die and the service was good albeit understaffed and busy due to summer holidays

My sister and I went for a quick smoothie this morning and we were greeted with a smiling face and very fast, polite service. The smoothies were so delicious and tasted fresh and homemade. The whole cafe was noticeably clean and beautifully decorated. The cakes looked amazing too!

On arrival, four people were behind the counter and not one of them looked up or acknowledged us. After being told it was waitress service, after waiting a while to be served at our seat, we then got up and ordered at the till. The table was dirty, the menu covered in stains and some of the sofas could do with an upholstery recover or clean. But wow! The milkshakes and cakes were delicious. The milkshakes were really 'old school' with proper ice cream and served in fun glasses. I think this is geared up for the young mums of Meads who want a venue where children can play whilst they chat up with their friends. We will try again.

Came with my family for some shakes. The freak shakes were quite impressive, and nearly a meal in themselves. A real indulgence, but worth it! Staff were very friendly. The café is bright and colourful inside, if driving there's limited, permit holder parking nearby Monday to Saturday, park anytime on Sunday. Would definitely come again...

We finally got round to going to Love Cake today after lots of great reviews. Place is well decorated and staff friendly. We both had a panini served with crisps and salad. For 3.95 great value for money. Also a piece of cake each. Very moist. Milkshakes great, made with ice cream and very thick. Would recommend and be returning

...but I can see why families with children come here. The decor is lovely and bright and the staff are friendly. The selection of cakes, as the name of the place implies, is varied and attractive. However, the milkshake I had was a bit watery and uninspiring. The coffee is fine but not the best I've tasted. And I do pick my moments to go in occasionally, so I miss the 'playground effect'. Nevertheless, opening a cafė next door but one to another was very brave but they both offer something very different. Nice to see some colour on Meads St!

Bad experience !! they didn't check allergies , no tap water offered I had ordered a bottle of sparkling water when it eventually came ( service was painfully slow and it was really quiet at the time , heaven knows how they cope when busy ) it was warm , they said they didn't have storage to chill the bottles of sparkling water I could put it in a glass full of ice or they would put it in the freezer , I had waited long enough and declined both , yet they charged me for it , I didn't notice until the card clicked that it had gone through , I then waited another 10 minutes to tell me they couldn't give me a refund at the moment as they couldn't contact head office ??? they took my number , but of course nobody has rung me , maybe if they ever bother to they could refund the service charge at the sometime as it was appalling . Food was ok

Upstairs in C@H. I had a lovely slice of coffee cake and a pot of tea. Perfect for a quick pitstop. Very reasonable price. Friendly service, background music catering for trad style tearooms, but not too intrusive. Tables clean. Not at all hurried.

We’d been before and had a nice experience, but this time it was just awful. It was very busy so we expected to have to wait a little longer than normal, but clearly the staff were just overwhelmed by how busy it was. The large table in the window was free so we sat there. Only trouble was it was piled high with plates, cups, and left-over food from previous customers. On ordering at the counter we asked for it to be cleared when they had a moment. It became obvious that moment would never come so eventually we cleared it ourselves and dumped it all on another table. We asked for the still dirty table to be wiped but that wasn’t going to happen so we asked for a cloth and did it ourselves. We patiently waited, and waited and waited some more for our food to arrive. At some point we were informed that some of what we ordered was no longer available so we revised the order to something much simpler, and waited. Still nothing. In the meantime lots of takeaway customers arrived and left with their food. We waited some more. Some people at a nearby table seemed to be having a similar experience and actually gave up and got their money back. We enquired about our order more than once by the way. Eventually we got exasperated and told the staff that if they hadn’t yet started our order that we’d just get a refund and leave, only to have the member of staff doing the cooking shout at us “ don’t you want it now?” And then something about it not being her fault because the counter staff had done something wrong with the order tickets. Finally we got some food. Not what we had ordered originally but fine. It’s close to where we live, but we won’t be back. I don’t wish the place any ill will, but there are so many other places in Eastbourne, just as good, which can cope with being busy ( a sunny Sunday afternoon in August, who’d have thought ) to have to put up with this.
