Upstairs in C@H. I had a lovely slice of coffee cake and a pot of tea. Perfect for a quick pitstop. Very reasonable price. Friendly service, background music catering for trad style tearooms, but not too intrusive. Tables clean. Not at all hurried.

The quality of the food has taken a serious nose dive! Was in there yesterday for lunch with partner. We ordered our drinks and good at 12:05. By 12:35 we had both finished our drink, but still no good (nothing fany, NOT and a jacket potato with chilli). The food turned up at about 12:50 and what a disappointment! I am assured the potato was adequate, but the sandwich was far from pleasing. 2 pieces of white (unbuttered) bread, 1 piece of cold bacon, 3-4 tiny strips of lettuce and some tomato! The cakes we ordered were just as displeasing, dry and hard. Needless to say we shall not be returning. Several customers sitting near us also shared the same view.

Having done some shopping we decided to have lunch here and had jacket potatoes which were lovely quality and served with salad and coleslaw. Service was friendly and efficient.

Very friendly staff and excellent food. All of the cakes are homemade and it has a real family feel to it.

Bad experience !! they didn't check allergies , no tap water offered I had ordered a bottle of sparkling water when it eventually came ( service was painfully slow and it was really quiet at the time , heaven knows how they cope when busy ) it was warm , they said they didn't have storage to chill the bottles of sparkling water I could put it in a glass full of ice or they would put it in the freezer , I had waited long enough and declined both , yet they charged me for it , I didn't notice until the card clicked that it had gone through , I then waited another 10 minutes to tell me they couldn't give me a refund at the moment as they couldn't contact head office ??? they took my number , but of course nobody has rung me , maybe if they ever bother to they could refund the service charge at the sometime as it was appalling . Food was ok

We’d been before and had a nice experience, but this time it was just awful. It was very busy so we expected to have to wait a little longer than normal, but clearly the staff were just overwhelmed by how busy it was. The large table in the window was free so we sat there. Only trouble was it was piled high with plates, cups, and left-over food from previous customers. On ordering at the counter we asked for it to be cleared when they had a moment. It became obvious that moment would never come so eventually we cleared it ourselves and dumped it all on another table. We asked for the still dirty table to be wiped but that wasn’t going to happen so we asked for a cloth and did it ourselves. We patiently waited, and waited and waited some more for our food to arrive. At some point we were informed that some of what we ordered was no longer available so we revised the order to something much simpler, and waited. Still nothing. In the meantime lots of takeaway customers arrived and left with their food. We waited some more. Some people at a nearby table seemed to be having a similar experience and actually gave up and got their money back. We enquired about our order more than once by the way. Eventually we got exasperated and told the staff that if they hadn’t yet started our order that we’d just get a refund and leave, only to have the member of staff doing the cooking shout at us “ don’t you want it now?” And then something about it not being her fault because the counter staff had done something wrong with the order tickets. Finally we got some food. Not what we had ordered originally but fine. It’s close to where we live, but we won’t be back. I don’t wish the place any ill will, but there are so many other places in Eastbourne, just as good, which can cope with being busy ( a sunny Sunday afternoon in August, who’d have thought ) to have to put up with this.
