More Than Cake in Eastbourne

We’d been before and had a nice experience, but this time it was just awful. It was very busy so we expected to have to wait a little longer than normal, but clearly the staff were just overwhelmed by how busy it was. The large table in the window was free so we sat there. Only trouble was it was piled high with plates, cups, and left-over food from previous customers. On ordering at the counter we asked for it to be cleared when they had a moment. It became obvious that moment would never come so eventually we cleared it ourselves and dumped it all on another table. We asked for the still dirty table to be wiped but that wasn’t going to happen so we asked for a cloth and did it ourselves. We patiently waited, and waited and waited some more for our food to arrive. At some point we were informed that some of what we ordered was no longer available so we revised the order to something much simpler, and waited. Still nothing. In the meantime lots of takeaway customers arrived and left with their food. We waited some more. Some people at a nearby table seemed to be having a similar experience and actually gave up and got their money back. We enquired about our order more than once by the way. Eventually we got exasperated and told the staff that if they hadn’t yet started our order that we’d just get a refund and leave, only to have the member of staff doing the cooking shout at us “ don’t you want it now?” And then something about it not being her fault because the counter staff had done something wrong with the order tickets. Finally we got some food. Not what we had ordered originally but fine. It’s close to where we live, but we won’t be back. I don’t wish the place any ill will, but there are so many other places in Eastbourne, just as good, which can cope with being busy ( a sunny Sunday afternoon in August, who’d have thought ) to have to put up with this.

Popped in here this morning with a friend while in town visiting. Good and friendly service, delicious salted caramel cake we shared and nice coffee. Nice decor and good prices. Recommend!

The cafe by the Tourist Information Centre was closed,I’m glad it was as we popped into this cafe instead, I had a chicken bacon and avocado sandwich, which came with home made coleslaw, a side salad and crisps. My friend had a coronation chicken sandwich with the same coleslaw etc. it was very reasonably priced and will soon make a return visit with my husband.

Stopped here for lunch, and both chose sausage sandwich. Appreciate you cant really go wrong with that, but we were sat by the window, place was quiet and service was good

We only popped in for a warm drink on a cold day but what a lovely unique tea rooms this is. The drinks we had were excellent and there really is a lot of choice and some delicious looking cakes but having just had breakfast we resisted! It is also dog friendly and looks very people friendly too with some children looking very at home. Very close to the sea front. We will return next time we are in the area.

Lovely coffee and really nice food but very concerned about stair gate upstairs as the food server kept leaving it open and very steep stairs could of led to a bad accident as toddlers present ..Felt we had to pick the table the nearest to keep making sure gate was shut...So was hard to enjoy our food ..Such a shame as nice concept with rhe toys .

Quaint little tea shop just off the seafront Excellent afternoon tea, made with loose leaf tea in a proper pot. Had a nice selection to choose from plus a selection of cakes which looked home made. Tea was nice and strong and a generous sized pot. I also chose a tea cake toasted with jam and butter. The only thing that spoiled the latter was the fact that the butter was in fact margarine - had I known I wouldn’t have ordered it. Didn’t complain as other people around. A nice sunny location and cheerful staff

Despite being moderately busy service was excellent, cakes and sandwiches were very tasty. Would definitely return if I come back to Eastbourne

Had an afternoon tea for 5 ladies and loved the freshness, service & choices. Great value at £15 a head. Great location just minutes from seafront and the theatre. Plenty of tea choices, soy milk & top ups offered. We chose 3 different types of sandwiches which were made fresh at ordering. On top of that there were lovely marinated chicken skewers, honey seasame sausages & crisps. Sweet treats were plain & fruit scones, gluten free raspberry flapjacks, lemon cheeesecake, millionaire shortbread & Victoria sponge. We had enough to take a doggy (hubby) bag. Definitely recommend

The staff seemed overwhelmed by a moderate number of customers. We waited for 20 minutes to have our orders taken by which time a number of people who arrived long after us had been served. I pointed this out to the waitress who was taking the orders only for her to confirm she was aware. This conversation was undoubtedly overheard by the lady I took to be in charge but drew no response. We were happy to wait but to be repeatedly ignored by staff who knew we were there is totally unacceptable. In desperation and with no hope of anyone taking any interest in us we left - never to return. The food may be good but the service was absolutely terrible. We found our way to Urban Ground where the service as well as the food was superb.

Found this cafe by chance and had breakfast there. We had eggs benedict and the continental combination breakfast. Both were excellent, good size portions, very tasty & good price. I would definitely eat there again next time I'm in Eastbourne

Delightful décor, excellent pancakes (generous portions), delicious hot chocolate, wide range of teas. Many tempting things on display and on the menu. And don't believe Google - they are open on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Nice to have an upstairs area for kids to play, however mostly for babies my 3 year old already felt a big old for the toys. It was also very cold. Unfortunately quite a lot of food was not available on the morning we visited which made it a little tricky for the kids who are a little fussy. Also took over an hour for the food to arrive due to the fryer not working. However, the food when it did arrive was very good, we were also refunded a small amount without asking due to the long wait. It would be a good place to meet another parent with young kids to play in safety allowing you time to chat.

Two pleasant waitresses served a very excellent eggs benedict, with perfectly cooked poached eggs and thick slices of bacon. Didn't look at their other breakfast fare, but this was splendid. Strongly recommended.
