This was the first time we have been into this cafe and I have to say 'cafe' does not do it justice, there is nothing 'greasy spoon' about it, it is has much more of a calm, classy, European vibe. It is simply furnished and somewhat understated, the seats are relatively comfortable and tables are spaced nicely. There is pleasing music playing which is not intrusive or too loud, and not a radio thank goodness. I also noted that they did not have condensed windows which is something I often see with cafes and something that actually really puts me off going in as I hate the feeling of humidity. The menu was absolutely fabulous with wonderful options made up from things like sour bread, paninis, croissants, brioche, chutneys, rocket other speciality breads, pesto, smashed avocado, goats cheese etc and I can vouch that the tea is a quality brand tea served in a sensible size 'chic' mug and not one a silly teacup. Like I said NOT a greasy spoon cafe at all. There was also a lovely selection of fresh homemade cakes. This is now a favourite place to stop for brunch or lunch when visiting the shops in Eastbourne.

I am a regular here on my days off. Visiting cafes solo isn’t always a joyful experience but here it is. I love coming here for a large decaff flat white and something delicious to eat. Sometimes I’ll have one of their counter items like an almond croissant or a Portuguese tart and other times I might treat myself to the sweet potato hash (with halloumi!) or the pea and feta toast. They are all delicious and really well thought out as brunch dishes. The service is always so welcoming and friendly. I never feel rushed or judged for being alone. There’s never been any mistakes on my order and they always manage to remember who has ordered what and bring it to you efficiently. Thank you for being my place of comfort when I need some “me” time!

Having just arrived in Eastbourne for a short break, somewhere decent for bunch was needed. We fell on our feet with this branch of Urban Ground. My needs were simple. I wanted poached eggs with a side of crispy bacon. In summary, the fancy bread for the toast was tasty, eggs were poached perfectly and the bacon was actually crispy. Full marks. And my partner's fancy thing with shrimps also hit the spot apparently. If I lived in Eastbourne, I'd be a regular here. Oh - and the coffee was good too.

Urban ground is a breath of fresh air! Great coffee and yes they can really make a Flat white. Had brunch for the first time and my only complaint is that they are around the corner from where I live. This is a place that’s the real deal. Quality of food, prices and lovely staff is something that we are greatly lacking in so many places. I look forward to returning soon.

Positives: very friendly staff and nice atmosphere, absolutely delicious food which was well presented and with good quality ingredients. Negatives: I was surprised to be changed so much for so small a portion. One piece of toast with two poached eggs and a flat white coffee and I was charged over £10. The business probably charges what it has to to cover overheads, wages, etc and stay afloat but when you leave after paying £10 odd feeling as hungry as when you went in you can't help feeling a bit put out. I pass most days and would pop in if it were cheaper but it'll be more of a once-in-a-while thing I think.

This continues to be my favourite spot to visit when I fancy a bit of “me” time. I feel totally comfortable sitting here with a book and enjoying a delicious coffee and either a sweet treat or a full brunch/ lunch. At the moment, I love the goats cheese ciabatta and the avocado on toast. Flat white is my coffee of choice (or the new Aeropress!) The service is always excellent. They are such a friendly bunch who are very efficient. Other cafes in the same area either don’t have enough staff or aren’t half as welcoming. This place feels like they all know their specific roles and are brilliant at them. Urban Ground is always busy but I’ve never struggled to find a table. It’s popular for a reason and has a lovely atmosphere. Keep doing what you are doing team and thank you! Keep taking my money :-)

Decent coffee, but not the best as they claim. Good selection of snacks, muffins and sweet bites. Quality of a cookie I had is exceptional. Definitely home baked. The place seems to be quite busy with staff rushing around. Maybe not the best pick for a relaxing cup of coffee. I prefer more slow paced coffee shops.

We were wanting a quick light lunch on Saturday 15th October and had parked nearby. The coffee was not very good and our light bites were small and not very tasty. I will not recommend coming here.

Been coming here for a few years now but the price of a small Cappuccino £3.20 is so expensive - haven't paid that price for coffee - not even in Lewes. Won't be coming again

The frustrating thing about Urban Ground is that they close at 4pm which isn't clear from their website. We finally managed to get a coffee today which was excellent but about 4 days later than we first wanted one.

Was hoping to sit inside for a coffee and quick bite with my dog as it was raining, but unfortunately they don’t allow dogs inside, which was disappointing. Would be nice to reconsider this policy, as I’m sure as long as the dog is well behaved, other customers would welcome it. Coffee was pretty good it a little on the expensive side; costs more than London and that just can’t be right. Staff were very polite and the place had a nice feel to it, although as I say I was unable to stay inside.

Delicious brunch! I wasn’t expecting the food to be as nice as it was, I had a crushed pea, feta salad, poached egg on toast and it was better than it sounds, I enjoyed every second of eating it. Nice atmosphere, nice coffee. Will be back.

We were so pleased to find this place. The coffee was the best I've had in ages, the service was polite and efficient and the food was excellent. My wife had kimchi and cheese in sourdough. It isn't a combination I would have thought of (and I'm a fan of both kimchi and cheese) but it worked perfectly! The only small change I'd have made is that I think that the smoothie was a bit expensive for the size, but apart from that, our visit was perfect. It was a stop-off on a visit to my Grandad for his 95th birthday, so it made a special day even more pleasurable. Thank you.

Don’t get me wrong. There is actually nothing bad about urban ground, it’s a coffee shop with snacks and lights bites served and the staff are pretty cool. Trouble is for the higher price point you expect something quite nice, when in fact all the products were quite forgettable. The smashed avocado toast wasn’t cheap for one slice nor was it generously topped, the mixture lacked zing and was crying out for something to garnish it like perhaps a few pieces of diced tomato. The mushroom and white bean slice with a poached egg certainly looked good to the eye but didn’t do much at all on taste. Bacon ciabatta was ok 5/10 but the size of a solo slider, again not cheap! Coffee was defi the highlight of the show for me, latte went down well.

Great coffee as always but the music is getting so eclectic I’ve cut down on visits. The is a time and place for 60s soul (other than the 60s) and it isn’t 7:30am. It could explain why there were so few customers.

Truly excellent coffee, strong, smooth, not overly milky (just as a cappuccino should be) though at £3 a little expensive. The coffee machine is a La Marzocco, the best coffee machine you can buy. Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10p.m. closing times make this a great alternative to pubs in the evening as there are few coffee shops that open late (why not?).

Now my favourite coffee shop/cafe in Eastbourne is opening late on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Serving a select menu of sharing platters and delicious cocktails. The candle-lit tables and mellow music created a lovely calm atmosphere in which to sip a delicious Rhubarb Gin and ginger cocktail. Next time I will be having an Expresso Martini. As with all Urban Ground's places the staff were delightful. Can't recommend highly enough.

Tired of the usual high street places that can be found everywhere else so opted to stop here for a snack. Spotlessly clean and food hearty and flavoursome. Proprietor and staff very pleasant and when we visited Eastbourne a month later we didn't need to discuss where we wanted to eat.
