The best restaurants serving Japanese food in South Wales

Homey atmosphere, cordial hosts, amazing food, highly recommended the grilled salmon sushi and the clams in sake. Would definitely recommend this place if you’re in Cardiff and are looking for some homemade Japanese food.

One word: incredible. Mari is so talented and made such a delicious selection of treats - all presented with the utmost care and artistry. The cafe is tucked away in a small village outside of Narberth but well worth the short drive!

Sushi and Katsu curry was delicious. Book to avoid disappointment. Halal options available. Service was nice too. New favourite.

Attentive staff, nice atmosphere and good sushi. Plenty of unagi (eel) which we love! Delicious fresh seaweed salad. What a treat to have a Japanese restaurant in our local town!

Visitamos en febrero y tuvimos una comida encantadora. La comida es muy asequible y se sirve caliente. Definitivamente vale la pena probar si estás en Swansea.

The experience starts by walking into the building, it is beautiful. Inside, the decor is elegant & classy! The staff were welcoming, friendly and were more than happy to answer any questions. We were helped by Oswin & Corey; they were very willing to assist us in choosing from the menu, and both were very knowledgeable about all the dishes listed. We tried a wide range of dishes, all of which were amazing! Sushi, tempura, baked rice - the list goes on! The flavours were fabulous and everything was beautifully fresh, and it goes without saying it all tasted divine. We also had a selection of pickles, I now have a new favourite pickle - pickled radish! We were also lucky enough to meet the chefs preparing these dishes - they are artists! the food is beautifully presented. We ended the meal with the signature Gin & Sake cocktail, which went down very well and finally finished with the plum sake. If you like sushi - or even if you have never tried it before, visit this restaurant - the staff will guide you through the menu and you won't be disappointed!

Tenía grandes esperanzas en Matsumen Ramen, pero desafortunadamente, mi visita fue abrumadora. A pesar de que el restaurante solo estaba lleno en un 20 %, esperé 45 minutos por un tazón de ramen, demasiado tiempo dado lo tranquilo que estaba. Cuando pregunté, simplemente me dijeron que había un retraso en la cocina. Hubiera sido un buen gesto ofrecer una bebida de cortesía o un pequeño aperitivo mientras esperábamos, en lugar de dejar a los comensales preguntarse qué estaba pasando. El espacio en sí es visualmente atractivo: grandes ventanales dejan entrar mucha luz natural, y hay una decoración brillante y minimalista con mesas de madera de haya, sillas simples y algunos carteles divertidos en una pared. La música de los años 2000 añadió un ambiente relajado, y los asientos estaban bien espaciados, aunque algunas de las mesas más grandes estaban apretadas entre sí. Desafortunadamente, nuestra mesa era tan pegajosa que incluso la servilleta se pegó a la superficie – un problema básico de pegajosidad que debe abordarse que tal vez el producto de limpieza en la superficie de madera. En cuanto a la comida, pedí el Yokohama Mazesoba. El plato parecía prometedor con su vibrante yema de huevo, fideos amarillos y triángulos de algas limpias, pero era demasiado salado, empeorado por las algas, que intensificaron la sobrecarga de sodio. Había una pequeña cantidad de caldo en el fondo, que no hizo mucho para equilibrar la salinidad. El cóctel de cereza era agradable —ligero, a base de refrescos y ligeramente alcohólico— casi como un refresco, que algunos podrían preferir. Consistently shocking service. I feel like the person who works there has a future as a doctor's surgery receptionist, they do as much as possible to prevent you ordering. They try and get you to use a machine to order, which often doesn't work, and if you mention it you get scowled at. They seem unaware of how to fix it. They are extremely rude when you arrive and if you're lucky enough to get their attention they treat you as an inconvenience, manners don't exist. They are obviously focused on Deliveroo rather than walk ins for lunch. Sadly it's nice enough sushi (albeit a very confusing menu that makes no sense on the ordering machine) but the service is rude and confusing. This has happened on too many occasions now and I won't be returning.

WOOOOWWWWW!!!! What a find! This place is absolutely incredible! The food was completely mind blowing and the staff are so lovely and attentive. We only left because we were stuffed!! Cannot wait to come back !

Pedí en línea. La comida llegó tarde, así que llamé y me dijeron que está a 5-10 minutos. Pasan 20 minutos y me dicen lo mismo otra vez. Espero y espero. Todavía nada. We waited 45 minutes for our preorder, although it was it was a pre order booked the day before osaka set was what sushi was called after all the consumption i asked for a discount for so many mistakes they made the answer was negative we didnt keep the discount we asked for the bill which we couldnt pay. I wanted to pay by card, unfortunately there is no terminal. There was no message that only cash payment. I do not recommend this restaurant. This is my 2nd post on Google because the previous review from January 18, 2023 was deleted.

don’t know why some people gave this place a low rating (when we checked on google). my girlfriend and i got greeted very nicely and was immediately made aware that there was no rice available as their rice cooker had broke, and they offered various substitutions for this problem. there were only two servers and it was quite busy when we came in. the seating was comfortable and the atmosphere was very homely and relaxed. we didn’t have to wait long, 10 minutes at least which was plenty of time for us to get settled in and decide what to eat. i ordered the prawn katsu curry (forgetting that there was no rice available) and when i asked for it the server made me aware that there was no rice left, however, if i so wished, i could get the rice cooked with no promise that will be cooked thoroughly and that it might be a little/very crunchy. i happily accepted those terms as i am a fan of crunchy rice. my girlfriend ordered the tonkotsu ramen with pork. we got our food delivered within a reasonable amount of time and the portion sizes took us by complete surprise. they were a lot bigger than we expected, but they were perfect portions as after finishing i was neither too full to the point i was uncomfortable, nor was i still hungry for anything else. the prawn katsu curry was DELICIOUS!!! our server had warned us that the rice may not turn out good due to the rice cooker malfunctioning, however, the rice was perfect. my girlfriend adored the ramen as it was creamy and well prepared, it would melt in your mouth perfectly. unfortunately they didn’t have desert available, but that didn’t ruin the food that we had just eaten. once again the servers the extremely friendly and welcoming, giving us recommendations when we asked, apologising for any problems even though they didn’t have to, overall it was just amazing. highly recommend this place if you’re a fan of japanese food. will definitely be coming back here on my next trip to cardiff!

Esta fue una experiencia increíble, te sentabas y te daban un menú. En la mesa tienes salsa de soja y una servilleta, plato y palillos sin embargo puedes conseguir cubiertos si lo pides. Cada plato de sushi y otras comidas fueron hechas a mano y servidas más o menos inmediatamente. Luego, junto a los asientos está la cocina donde se puede ver la comida que se está haciendo, que es genial para ver! El personal era muy agradable y pude encajonar cualquier comida que no podía terminar. Cada plato se coloca en una cinta transportadora y lentamente vienen alrededor y simplemente puede recoger un plato, cada plato tiene un cierto color que corresponde con un precio en la parte delantera del menú. En el menú te decían los diferentes platos y si no te gustaba nada en el cinturón podías pedir una comida, pedí un pollo Katsu. Y estuvo delicioso hicieron el arroz más suave que creo que he probado en un restaurante y el pollo se cocinó tan bien : ) Fue un ambiente encantador y una gran experiencia en general, sin embargo, cuando llegó la factura nos preguntaron si teníamos algún descuento, por ejemplo, una tarjeta azul claro. Luego agregaron una propina de servicio que era bastante pesada, y probablemente podrían haber comprado otra comida. Esto me pareció bastante extraño ya que recogiste la comida tú mismo.
