Sushi Life
Plasnewydd, Cardiff
14/11/2023: We can’t recommend this wonderful little restaurant enough. Everything, the atmosphere, the staff and the food is excellent. We visited with a 13 year old and a 10 year old who state it’s the best Japanese food they have ever eaten (and they have eaten a lot!). Make sure you book - it’s very popular.
15/09/2023: Small, vibrant, busy restaurant. Always busy with take outs too.
Very helpful, friendly staff.
And always amazing food!

Matsudai Ramen
Plasnewydd, Cardiff
28/01/2024: After hearing such great things about Matsudai, I have to say I left the restaurant rather disappointed. I’d like to start by saying that the food I did receive, was very nice and full of flavour. However, for a restaurant that prides itself on a small menu that receives full care and attention, I was very let down by how many key ingredients were unavailable to me. We went on a Saturday evening at 8pm, so a very usual time to be eating. 3 of the things we tried to order were unavailable. Including kimchi, eggs (???? At a ramen place???) and the only dessert they had on the menu was also not available. The food I had was lovely but I didn’t receive the full experience
28/01/2024: Recommended by friends and I have to say: An absolutely stunning meal from start to finish. The flavours were sensational. It was so busy, you definitely need to book.

New I Chi Ban
Castle, Swansea
14/01/2020: We frequent this place on a regular basis. The food is easy great and the staff are honestly the most friendly people. There has been occasional my son will act up and the gental man that works there is straight there with a toy or something to distract him.Myself I have the vegetable options but my partner absolutely loves the mea options served too. Overall there is a lot of choice but for me it's the bento boxes I love. You get so much and they are so good. Great value for .money.
05/01/2020: Came with a few friends, one had been before and for the rest of us it was new. I had chicken katsu curry to be safe but I'm so glad I did. It was lovely, lots of chicken/sauce/rice and miso soup on the side. Also ordered the chicken gyoza and that was yummy too. Friends ordered ramen which looked amazing too and they were happy with their dishes. It's a great hidden gem, reasonably priced and I'm definitely going to visit again.

Sakura
Gwenfro, Wrexham
07/10/2023: Honestly lush!
The best sushi ever!
Thank you!
Collected as no delivery available to Froncysyllte and I would pay for delivery.
But well worth the trip out.
24/03/2023: Ordered online, paid online. After 45 mins they sent us a message saying that due to high demand, our order couldn’t be completed, but that it would take 5 working days to refund our money. Shame as the food is decent. Utterly unreliable.

Ichiban
Riverside, Cardiff, >100£
19/08/2019: Friendly helpful staff, good range on the menu.
First class service.
They will do anything to make your visit more memorable.
I will be back

Wasabi
Uplands, Swansea, 20-30£
03/10/2018: My friend and i were looking forward to trying something in this restaurant and we were turned away as they weren't prepared to accommodate vegan food. Such a shame. Many Japanese restaurants now make an effort to include a couple of vegan dishes on their menus as a plant based diet has become so popular. Wasabi needs to get with the times!
30/09/2018: My favourite restaurant. The best authentic, immaculately presented Japanese food and ice cold Kirin Ichiban on tap. Lovely staff. Exceptionally efficient service. Visit 2-4 times a month. Twice in the last fortnight have tried to eat here and it has been closed. Will be devastated if this closure is permanent.

Ichiban
Plasnewydd, Cardiff
02/10/2023: Been here countless times. Simply put - my favourite restaurant. Great service, brilliant menu, tasty food.
04/09/2023: My all time favourite restaurant in Cardiff.
Family run, with a wonderful warm welcome and atmosphere.
The food is superb and I recommend the Sashimi, Chirashi don, Tako Su and the various Teishoku.
Over the 15+ years that we have been visiting Ichiban, the staff have become good friends.
Visited on Saturday for my birthday and I had Happy Birthday sang to me for nearly every course - Hugely embarrassing and really appreciated!
The current venue is closing on the 10th of Sep and I’m going to really miss it. Hopefully a new venue will be opening very soon, as it’s easily the best of its kind in Cardiff.
