The best restaurants serving Italian food in Scotland

In the middle of the charming little streets of St Andrews, I found a hidden gem that made me feel like I was dining in a tucked-away trattoria in Rome: Little Italy. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with that cozy vibe that makes you slow down and enjoy without rushing —and that unmistakable smell of real Italian cooking that grabs you the moment you walk in. I started with the garlic bread, and it was spot on. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with just the right touch of garlic and olive oil —nothing else needed. For the main course, I went straight for the chicken pesto spaghetti: a simple combo, maybe, but here they absolutely nail it. The pesto was fresh and creamy, with that real basil and pine nut flavor that changes everything. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked, adding just the right amount of protein without taking over the dish. I left happy, with that feeling of having eaten something made with real care. If you're ever in St Andrews, don't miss it —Little Italy is a true gem.

Partner and I dined here for the first time yesterday. Only two people in the place. Although the food tasted good my main pasta came lukewarm. How that can happen in an empty restaurant I don’t know.

Excellent cuisine. Menu had so many choices had to return the next day. Great friendly staff. Portions were large and reasonably priced. Sad we were only there for 2 days. This is a must see. On the weekends make a reservation.

Too much for a service charge. They were out of the specials at 19.30. Food is tasty. Edit after the restaurant's response: I came back after a while, I enjoyed it. Had I seen this I wouldn't 🤣 I go to a restaurant to have a nice time, not to fight with the food, the service charge etc. If I'm going to spend all night complaining, what's the point? 🤣 I just don't understand why would anyone try to outsmart a customer who's willing to spend money when you can be nice and have me as a frequent guest 😁 Unlike last time, this time the service and the food was wonderful.

If you come to Edinburgh, do not leave without eating here. Compared to the 2-3 Italian restaurants highlighted in London, the pasta here was much better. We tried all three pastas in the sea food section, the one at the bottom is the best. There is a lot of seafood and it is filling. Venison pasta is also very good. You can also have tiramisu after your meal, it was great. We would like to thank the Sicilian lady for her interest and the other lady whose name we forgot to ask.

Not as good as previous visits. The bread for the bruschetta was so heavy and doughy that I couldn’t finish it. Very over powering taste of garlic. Penne arrabiatta didn’t have much taste other than chilli. Could have done with salt but there was none available. Pizza was great, very mixed results. Have been many times but this was not the best. Service was great but shall think twice before going back

Had a lovely meal yesterday food was delicious. The restaurant was lovely decorated, but was a little cold. Service from waitresses were superb especially Gorgie and Abbie. Would recommend.

Perfect servus the mist original Italian fiid in Inverness

The veggie fajitas are to die for! Absolutely loved this place. Me, husband and kids had dinner on a Monday night. Great vibe, lovely staff, really tasty food - we were so happy with the vegetarian selection and they catered so well for my wee girl who has a diary intolerance. We’ll be back ☺️ Highly recommend!

Absolutely delicious fresh pasta. I intend to work through the whole menu. You cannot go to Glasgow and not eat here.

We had a party of 13 people to celebrate my sons birthday, as always the food was excellent, the servers were attentive and we were able to keep the birthday cake a secret until all the servers appeared singing happy birthday. We couldn’t have asked for anything more, we all had a fantastic evening. Special thanks to the gentleman who took our orders and looked after us all night, sorry I can’t remember his name

Fantastic meal. Attentive and friendly staff. The meal was tasty. The food was hot. The ice cream was delicious. The portions were good. I’d return to Kirkaldy just for a meal here.

Visité este restaurante anoche con mi familia y lo pasé muy bien. Un lugar cálido y acogedor con personal amable y atento. La comida era absolutamente deliciosa, caliente y bien presentado. La carta de vinos también tenía un precio muy razonable. Creo que Caffe Royale definitivamente estará en nuestra lista de restaurantes a partir de ahora.
