great food!!! went in there by accident and ate the most delicious pizza and tagliatelle, went back the next day for the tiramisu :) the service was lovely

this place has nothing to do with Italian cuisine, the quality of the food is very poor, an ugly place as well as the service, the chefs are not Italian. A very high cost for a very low quality.

You better be hungry, the pizzas are gigantic, and good, but the dough is very thick, the pasta dishes are well stocked and good too, disappointed by the Irish coffee, in the land of whiskey, it was less good than at home.

2/5 The food was very bad. The staff was very kind and inviting, however the food is just tasteless and bland. I ordered the carbonara and the sauce was soupy, the guanciale was tough and burnt and the whole dish tasted like nothing. I could only taste the burnt meat, my fiancée ordered a calzone and said it was just okay. The dough was undercooked and inedible in spots. There was also small bugs flying over the tables. Overall, overpriced for the quality of food, the service is good but we will not be back because of the taste.

Good food and really kind staff. It's Edinburgh so it'll be a bit expensive that's to be expected, but it's a really nice restaurant nonetheless.

We had two primavera, which were excellent! The waitress, Italian, was very smiling and warm. The only negative point was the placement: we were in the entrance corridor, and felt the drafts with each passage and arrival of new customers.

Food was good, probably a bit overpriced but it is the main tourist area. The service... interesting. There is an open kitchen area meaning staff are visible to some diners and all times. We had a main server who appeared to be covering the whole restaurant and there was another server was doing the drinks preparations. This meant that while one server was running around covering all tables service the other had a more relaxed approach to their job. Bordering on unprofessional, I heard this server make comments about diners unfortunately. Our main server was professional but as they were covering the whole restaurant they had a lot to do and were rushing around. While we left full, we did feel rushed throughout the meal and did not find it to be a relaxed, comfortable dining experience.

Ate here with my family. The food was delicious and generous portions. The staff were patient with my child, in particular the server Anna was amazing with him. I would recommend this place to any family.

Food was okay, but nothing special and quite pricey for what you get. Chicken was bit dry and lettuce was without dressing. Expected more quality from Gordon. Service was friendly and fast.

An absolute gem of a restaurant, the food was delicious, the staff ( thank you Anna) couldn't have been nicer. My second visit here and it will be a certain every time I visit Edinburgh

Tuve la lasaña, lasaña más sosa que he tenido. Mi novio tenía el especial de salchichas “picantes”. ¿Tal vez se olvidaron de agregar la especia? Luego agregaron un cargo por servicio, que por supuesto nos negamos a pagar. En general, no recomendaría y no volverá.

This was the first time we’d been to Gordon’s for many years, booked as we had a sleeper train going out from Waverley. The food was ok, but pretty expensive for what it was, and definitely one of the poorer Italian meals we’ve had in recent memory. Burnt bruschetta, soggy garlic bread, and some undercooked pasta (no not al dente, undercooked). While we could forgive the underwhelming food, what we found completely unacceptable was the unprofessional behaviour of the waiting staff. They were truly awful. There were 4 young ladies working at the front of house/serving who were honestly behaving like they were out on a hen night, having fun at a private party during which every once in a while they’d have to serve tables. They spent their time chatting incessantly and loudly in a gaggle, laughing loudly, swearing in earshot of the customers, paying no attention whatsoever to the customers, and at every moment possible checking their mobiles. Without any exaggeration, between every visit they made to a table, they then rushed back to scrolling on their mobiles. Not the iPad they used to take orders, their personal mobiles which were sitting around on the bar. One of them even sprinted through the restaurant at one point (barely an inch between the tables and the kitchen) to hug a friend outside who was knocking at the window. We asked for a jug of water which didn’t arrive until we asked twice, we watched our food sit unnoticed on the counter for a good 5 mins as the staff were not paying attention while they were having a laugh together, and our waiting person simply gave up on her job when we finished our meal so a young lad (who truly appeared the only person in the restaurant who cared about their job) realised that his colleague was too distracted speaking to her pals and came to clear our table. He looked embarrassed and pretty cheesed off himself. The table behind us also wasn’t cleaned up half an hour after the diners had left, as no-one cared about tidying up. We had intended to get a dessert but were so fed up by that point we paid our bill and left. And by the way, they add 12.5% to the bill automatically at Gordon’s - probably contributes somewhat to the apathy and complete disinterest of the staff. We also saw three couples leave after their meals and not one of the ladies at front of house said thanks and good night to them - didn’t even look up from their chat. That is unforgivable in customer service. We won’t be back and won’t recommend to others. Judging by the number of empty tables at 8pm on a Friday night, other people have already made the same decision. There are many great Italian restaurants around Edinburgh to choose from. Gordon’s, you really need to address your toxic staff culture - this doesn’t make your restaurant a ‘fun place’, it makes it unpleasant and unwelcoming. You need to be aware of this and not let it fester.

Excellent atmosphere and food. Anya was an excellent waitress, one of the best I’ve had. Her service was impeccable and made our experience one to remember, definitely recommend going!

Pizza was the worst my husband had ever tasted, and the carbonara was not fresh, just really stodgy. Service was good as was the music, will not be back

Looking for an emergency dinner on a Saturday evening. Managed to squeeze us in thank goodness! Friendly and attentive service from Anya, fabulous spaghetti carbonara. I'd go there again!

I ordered carbonara and lasagne with my girlfriend. We couldn’t eat half of our food. Meals weren’t good. Also, One of staff was so strict and she wasn’t friendly.

We selected this quaint looking place because of the glowing reviews but sadly it was a poor experience from beginning to end. The staff member forgot our drinks order and returned to get it a second time. Plates were continually clattered a metre from our table , disappointing bruschetta with soggy on bread, we were delivered someone else’s meal then when ours arrived the pizza was a lovely base with cheese baked but with fresh ingredients uncooked on top. In the middle of our meal there was a very intrusive staff training service of alcohol session in progress, we indicated this was a problem in enjoyment of our meal we were told by the manager that she had to train her staff and left.

The food was such failure. BRUSHETTA was piece of bread with cut tomaotss made it already sogy bread even more like cold bread pudding minus the sweatness of.pudding. The prawns sauce was soo lemony and unedible , and rice side dish was from right out of microwave and some salad leaves with no dressing. The pizza was super thuck crust. Ravioli was with very lemon sauces again with very uncooked mushrooms. . . Verymuch frozen and microwaved food that seems not marinated just dumped in to a bowl without any basic cooking skills and over doing the whole.lemon thing. Very much cheaply made food but changing bigger amount, cooked right out of frezzer and microwave.

We went on Christmas Eve after visiting Edinburgh Castle. Very delicious and had a great atmosphere! I had the pesto pasta and if you are thinking of getting the calzone, split it because it is HUGE! Sticky toffee was also delicious! The group got three sticky toffee to share with the 6 of us! I recommend going here if you would like a break from Scottish food or some really good Italian food!

We were looking for a place for dinner and found this quaint restaurant! The atmosphere was so warm and comforting! We ordered few drinks and pasta and dessert. The tagliatelle in pesto was fresh and the taste was amazing; and the portion size was really good! Highly recommend the tiramisu there-just simply delicious!

For the price it was alright. Not exceptional but still tasty, freshly made pasta with good flavours. Server did not really know the menu well, though it was made up for by the warm and friendly service.

The risotto was to die for (make sure you add prawns). Everything was so well seasoned, and the cocktails were also lovely

Fabulous food. The spaghetti carbonara is unmissable. Tiramisu was lovely.

LOVED this place! The lasagna is fantastic, homemade recipe that is so good we ordered it twice. Also loved the prawn pasta, the veggies in it were perfectly cooked (not soggy) and the pasta itself was amazing. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Also, really like the Chianti Classico. The anti pasta board is the thing I am going back for next time, and bringing friends to help take it down. I didn't try it this time because I was solo, but I saw it pass by on its way to another table. Mountains of burrata cheese, meats and veggies. I highly recommend this place!

We’ve just visited this little gem of a restaurant we found more by chance , and what a find it was , The food is amazing , the friendliness of the staff is like nothing else we’ve seen this weekend , Gordon has an awesome place here , next time we are up this way we will return and can’t wait . Friendly welcome , the food was absolutely delicious! Our came quite pronto too. The value superb too. As for atmosphere, I was glad to leave. The waiting staff need more professionalism. Shouting ! The young lady shouts so loud just whenever she opens her mouth - it was like being served in high school by the end - they loudly discuss other diners cheekily for other customers to hear and are more there to flirt with eachother and show off. It was noisy due to them so we couldn’t be bothered to order desert or enjoy another drink. Rein it in a bit as the place is cute and food super.

Really delicious pasta also gluten free. But forget garlic bread it's not worth eating

We visited at around 3pm and were immediately told the card machine wouldn't be working until after 5pm. If we wanted to eat, we'd have to go to the cash machine, which we did. We were the only diners so, total lack of atmosphere but piped music was too, too loud. Waiter was friendly but when asked to turn music down 'a little ', he turned off completely (we were in the rear section) so completely reduced the tiny bit of atmosphere that might have been there before. Restaurant smelled of stale cooking oil which was really unpleasant. Food was okay at best but, for the price, felt completely ripped off. Cost of some alcoholic drinks are more than in 4* establishments like Malmaison which offers far better surroundings and levels of service. While we were eating, staff near front door had loud, personal conversations and as only diners, that felt really poor. We have previously eaten here but, never again. Can't be good for impression on tourists if this is normal. Finally, ladies' toilet downstairs was grubby, dirty and absolutely freezing. Needs a refurbishment desperately.

We found this restaurant on Google when we were visiting Edinburgh for an overnight stay before flying to Barcelona the next day. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious, we can highly recommend a visit for some great tasty food and very good service!

Went with the specials menu and ordered the Paccheri pasta dish. Delicious plate of food washed down with a jug of tap water and a Margarita and Mojito. Lovely ambiance and service. I would highly recommend.

Restaurant was recommended to me by a friend and I was so glad I went. Not only was the food fantastic and authentic the ambiance was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress, Maria, was bubbly, informative and chatty without being intrusive. We only had two evenings in Edinburgh, I’m so glad we spent one here.

Hyggelig italiensk restaurant i hjertet af Edingburgh. Sødt og venligt personale, vi blev betjent af Maria som var utrolig sød og venlig. Vi fik en pizza hver som oversteg vores forventninger, både i størrelse og så sandelig også i smag. Virklig et besøg hver. Vi ses til næste år.

There was 9 of us and it was the Fringe Festival, everywhere was full so we proceeded to walk down the Royal Mile and look for a place to eat. I’ve been past Gordon’s Trattoria many times thinking yeah another tourist restaurant with awful overpriced food!! Magically a table opened up as we walked by and we could get 9 people in……the sun came out and the beers flowed and the pizzas and pastas were really really good, I had a Calzone and expected heartburn, nope, the food the service and atmosphere was fantastic and the waiter was fantastic (orange scooter man) ! WILL DEFINITELY VISIT AGAIN 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Basic hygiene out the window!! Before we were served our waiter expelled a huge sneeze without covering his mouth, this put us on our back foot straight away. The food was okay had better Italian food elsewhere. The service could have been better, once order was taken we were not asked did we want anymore drinks or desert. In summing up it seems like the standards are comprised by the high turnover during the fringe festival. Won't be visiting again or recommending.

Friendly and helpful service, the manager is an Italian guy. Pizza Margherita good, pasta amatriciana good but with onion (!), pasta carbonara but not at all... with the addition of cream.... anyway for being abroad we ate decent Italian food.

Quick pre-show dinner, and was so happy!! Beautiful meal, quick and super friendly service. Lovely vibe, nice music. And really reasonably priced for the quality of the experience. Defo recommend. Thanks Team Gordon ❤️

This place was absolutely delicious. We were very surprised by the portion size, we could have easily had one starter and then shared a pizza. My partner got the calzone and it was bigger than his head! But I'm a bit torn, if we had shared we wouldn't have the amazing leftovers in the fridge. Tough call! 😆

Went for a family meal here during the festival. The atmosphere sitting outside was great and the food was decent (especially the risotto dello chef and pollo Diane). Service from Willie was top notch - had a great laugh with him and he was very attentive too.

Ideal location to enjoy lovely pasta dish and delicious house wine before heading off to Tattoo. Lucky to have Al fresco meal & take in the Festival atmosphere. We both really enjoyed the food, friendly and efficient service and ambience. Happy days!

Gordon's Trattoria is totally awesome! We wanted some old fashioned home style Italian food after eating so much pub food in Edinburgh. Gordon's Trattoria food was outstanding, the beer was cold, it was a great value and the service was terrific. Gordon's accomodated our Vegan diet by making minor adjustments to their menu. The manager Jason was awesome, even staying open a little late after we phoned. Five stars!

Best Italian food we’ve had for a while! It’s not the biggest place but if you can get a table definitely try the ravioli! All the other dishes looked great too! Lovely staff and great atmosphere

BLONDE, TALL who wears sunglasses while serving inside the resto was rude. She asked for our order and I asked her if she can serve the Calamari and Pasta first then we'll just order more after. She said NO cause she needs to get all our orders since they were really busy. So I said ok, we'll just order that then. She then went to her colleague told what happened thinking we couldn't understand her language. She never went back to serve us. Another lovely lady served us thus the 1 star.

Save your money, we had 3 pizza and a calzone… and boy that turned out to be a jaw workout. Food was edible but definitely not worth the money. Also, a ridiculous amount of food is wasted, unless you’re doing a food challenge there is no reason to stuff the calzone with 5 pounds of ham, pepperoni and cheese. A lot of the plates that were removed from the tables had half the food still on them.

I had not eaten in almost 24 hours when I came here because I felt so sick after being vomited on in Glasgow 😭😭 I needed some comfort food and this was probably the best meal I had in a long time. I usually don't go to Italian restaurants since my family is from Italy and they are never as good as home but this place was absolutely perfect. If I ever go back to Scotland I will definitely come back!!

Although it’s fairly tight in the restaurant itself, that doesn’t change the fact that the food is awesome and the service is friendly and welcoming.

A fabulous find I discovered on my way back from my tour of Edinburgh Castle. The food was fabulous as was the service. And I was able to enjoy a wonderful meal as I watched the world go by on The Royal Mile.

Strolling along the Royal Mile trying to decide where to stop when we happened upon Gordon’s Trattoria. To say we had a grand time is an understatement. Jason made sure we had an evening to remember, great starters with wine as well as Tiramisu with after dinner drinks. What enjoyable evening!

What to say ? We were seated opposite the glass trash cans and the dishwasher in the long corridor... Lots of people passing through, so very noisy. Plus the food was really not great. I had lasagna uh where was the béchamel? A very small portion and for desert I tried the sticky toffee pudding. I ate a better one when I bought it at the co'op. In short, I do not recommend this restaurant at all. And all this for a rather expensive price.

I ordered a margherita pizza. It was very, very ordinary and salty at times. I ordered fries and a cola. I only ate two pieces of pizza. The staff are all respectful except for the blonde. She feels that she does not want you to say anything, but she wants to leave and walk away. I honestly do not recommend visiting it, as the account was 25 pounds

Absolutely superb, food was amazing. Great choice on their menu to suit your needs. It's the best Italian calzone I've had, great wine too Nice sitting in the 🌞 listening to the atmosphere of the Royal mile. All the staff were nice, friendly and attentive.

Best waitress ever! We went to watch a soccer match and sat outside. Had a few drinks and an appetizer. All of the food we saw being served looked and smelled amazing (especially the gigantic calzone)! The waitress was managing a large crowd eating and drinking and did it all with grace and a smile on her face.

I would love to say more about how amazing the service was. 6/5 stars for sure.

Love this place! Found it on google by chance- the food was so good. The waiter was so friendly and very entertaining, had a good laugh over some nice Italian dessert. Walk ins are accepted.

We sat inside and regretted it quite a bit. We were tired of exploring the Royal Mile and were seeking out a bit of peace and a good bite to eat but we didn’t find it. The music was playing SO loudly inside and 2 of the male staff contributed to the high noise level with their random outbursts. It was honestly a bit obnoxious. I felt like I was at a nightclub not a nice, sit-down restaurant. I had the ravioli and it was rather one-dimensional and lacking in flavor. I will say, however, the service was fast and efficient.
