We’ve just visited this little gem of a restaurant we found more by chance , and what a find it was , The food is amazing , the friendliness of the staff is like nothing else we’ve seen this weekend , Gordon has an awesome place here , next time we are up this way we will return and can’t wait . Thank you

Friendly welcome , the food was absolutely delicious! Our came quite pronto too. The value superb too. As for atmosphere, I was glad to leave. The waiting staff need more professionalism. Shouting ! The young lady shouts so loud just whenever she opens her mouth - it was like being served in high school by the end - they loudly discuss other diners cheekily for other customers to hear and are more there to flirt with eachother and show off. It was noisy due to them so we couldn’t be bothered to order desert or enjoy another drink. Rein it in a bit as the place is cute and food super.

We found this restaurant on Google when we were visiting Edinburgh for an overnight stay before flying to Barcelona the next day. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious, we can highly recommend a visit for some great tasty food and very good service!

Went with the specials menu and ordered the Paccheri pasta dish. Delicious plate of food washed down with a jug of tap water and a Margarita and Mojito. Lovely ambiance and service. I would highly recommend.

We were looking for a place for dinner and found this quaint restaurant! The atmosphere was so warn and comforting! We ordered few drinks and pasta and dessert. The tagliatelle in pesto was fresh and the taste was amazing; and the portion size was really good! Highly recommend the tiramisu there-just simply delicious!

Restaurant was recommended to me by a friend and I was so glad I went. Not only was the food fantastic and authentic the ambiance was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress, Maria, was bubbly, informative and chatty without being intrusive. We only had two evenings in Edinburgh, I’m so glad we spent one here.

There was 9 of us and it was the Fringe Festival, everywhere was full so we proceeded to walk down the Royal Mile and look for a place to eat. I’ve been past Gordon’s Trattoria many times thinking yeah another tourist restaurant with awful overpriced food!! Magically a table opened up as we walked by and we could get 9 people in……the sun came out and the beers flowed and the pizzas and pastas were really really good, I had a Calzone and expected heartburn, nope, the food the service and atmosphere was fantastic and the waiter was fantastic (orange scooter man) ! WILL DEFINITELY VISIT AGAIN 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Basic hygiene out the window!! Before we were served our waiter expelled a huge sneeze without covering his mouth, this put us on our back foot straight away. The food was okay had better Italian food elsewhere. The service could have been better, once order was taken we were not asked did we want anymore drinks or desert. In summing up it seems like the standards are comprised by the high turnover during the fringe festival. Won't be visiting again or recommending.

Friendly and helpful service, the manager is an Italian guy. Pizza Margherita good, pasta amatriciana good but with onion (!), pasta carbonara but not at all... with the addition of cream.... anyway for being abroad we ate decent Italian food.

High quality homemade Italian food, the pasta was very tasty and perfectly prepared, the staff was fantastic and very good service. It is a restaurant to repeat.

This place was absolutely delicious. We were very surprised by the portion size, we could have easily had one starter and then shared a pizza. My partner got the calzone and it was bigger than his head! But I'm a bit torn, if we had shared we wouldn't have the amazing leftovers in the fridge. Tough call! 😆

Great food, great atmosphere and we were well looked after by Jason and Gausha.Been to Ayr,Glasgow and just arrived in Edinburgh and this has been the best so far. #lovingscotland

Went for a family meal here during the festival. The atmosphere sitting outside was great and the food was decent (especially the risotto dello chef and pollo Diane). Service from Willie was top notch - had a great laugh with him and he was very attentive too.

Ideal location to enjoy lovely pasta dish and delicious house wine before heading off to Tattoo. Lucky to have Al fresco meal & take in the Festival atmosphere. We both really enjoyed the food, friendly and efficient service and ambience. Happy days!

Gordon's Trattoria is totally awesome! We wanted some old fashioned home style Italian food after eating so much pub food in Edinburgh. Gordon's Trattoria food was outstanding, the beer was cold, it was a great value and the service was terrific. Gordon's accomodated our Vegan diet by making minor adjustments to their menu. The manager Jason was awesome, even staying open a little late after we phoned. Five stars!

Best Italian food we’ve had for a while! It’s not the biggest place but if you can get a table definitely try the ravioli! All the other dishes looked great too! Lovely staff and great atmosphere

BLONDE, TALL who wears sunglasses while serving inside the resto was rude. She asked for our order and I asked her if she can serve the Calamari and Pasta first then we'll just order more after. She said NO cause she needs to get all our orders since they were really busy. So I said ok, we'll just order that then. She then went to her colleague told what happened thinking we couldn't understand her language. She never went back to serve us. Another lovely lady served us thus the 1 star.

Save your money, we had 3 pizza and a calzone… and boy that turned out to be a jaw workout. Food was edible but definitely not worth the money. Also, a ridiculous amount of food is wasted, unless you’re doing a food challenge there is no reason to stuff the calzone with 5 pounds of ham, pepperoni and cheese. A lot of the plates that were removed from the tables had half the food still on them.

I had not eaten in almost 24 hours when I came here because I felt so sick after being vomited on in Glasgow 😭😭 I needed some comfort food and this was probably the best meal I had in a long time. I usually don't go to Italian restaurants since my family is from Italy and they are never as good as home but this place was absolutely perfect. If I ever go back to Scotland I will definitely come back!!

A fabulous find I discovered on my way back from my tour of Edinburgh Castle. The food was fabulous as was the service. And I was able to enjoy a wonderful meal as I watched the world go by on The Royal Mile.

Although it’s fairly tight in the restaurant itself, that doesn’t change the fact that the food is awesome and the service is friendly and welcoming.

Had a great stop there for drinks, appetizers desserts and after dinner drinks. Lovely food and outstanding service (Jason is a rockstar)

Strolling along the Royal Mile trying to decide where to stop when we happened upon Gordon’s Trattoria. To say we had a grand time is an understatement. Jason made sure we had an evening to remember, great starters with wine as well as Tiramisu with after dinner drinks. What enjoyable evening!

What to say ? We were seated opposite the glass trash cans and the dishwasher in the long corridor... Lots of people passing through, so very noisy. Plus the food was really not great. I had lasagna uh where was the béchamel? A very small portion and for desert I tried the sticky toffee pudding. I ate a better one when I bought it at the co'op. In short, I do not recommend this restaurant at all. And all this for a rather expensive price.

I ordered a margherita pizza. It was very, very ordinary and salty at times. I ordered fries and a cola. I only ate two pieces of pizza. The staff are all respectful except for the blonde. She feels that she does not want you to say anything, but she wants to leave and walk away. I honestly do not recommend visiting it, as the account was 25 pounds

Absolutely superb, food was amazing. Great choice on their menu to suit your needs. It's the best Italian calzone I've had, great wine too Nice sitting in the 🌞 listening to the atmosphere of the Royal mile. All the staff were nice, friendly and attentive.

Best waitress ever! We went to watch a soccer match and sat outside. Had a few drinks and an appetizer. All of the food we saw being served looked and smelled amazing (especially the gigantic calzone)! The waitress was managing a large crowd eating and drinking and did it all with grace and a smile on her face.

Love this place! Found it on google by chance- the food was so good. The waiter was so friendly and very entertaining, had a good laugh over some nice Italian dessert. Walk ins are accepted.

We sat inside and regretted it quite a bit. We were tired of exploring the Royal Mile and were seeking out a bit of peace and a good bite to eat but we didn’t find it. The music was playing SO loudly inside and 2 of the male staff contributed to the high noise level with their random outbursts. It was honestly a bit obnoxious. I felt like I was at a nightclub not a nice, sit-down restaurant. I had the ravioli and it was rather one-dimensional and lacking in flavor. I will say, however, the service was fast and efficient.

Had great time at Gordon's. The food was on point and Samuel was very friendly and helpful! The desserts were also yum! Will definitely come back again

Visited at 4pm yesterday, it was very busy, grateful to be seated at a table inside, the food is cooked to order, Taggliatteli when it arrived was perfect, beautiful well prepared sauce, fresh vegetables, well worth waiting for being cooked to order Staff were happy and welcoming, a good team which makes it relaxing, a pleasurable atmosphere to enjoy food, would give more than 5 stars if possible for this lovely experience

Went to this gem of a place for dinner the first night we got here with my dad, my sister, my niece and my nephew. We sat outside and enjoyed the atmosphere. The waiter was so good. Very nice and accommodating. He told us to come back today for lunch. We were busy at lunch but came back for dinner. Our waiter remembered us and was so sweet. Absolutely love this place. I hope to come back to Scotland and I would love to come back for a meal.

It is not an Italian restaurant

Had dinner here, was happy to eat outside. Noticed they let people who approached know the restaurant was booked but if they wanted could eat outside. Then as tables became available, they let those seated outside come in on a basis of who was there first. This is really thoughtful to see, I was impressed. Food was also excellent - I had the Caprese and penne Pomodoro, both amazing. Ria was so sweet and helpful.

Exceptional service provided by Gordon Scott food beautifully prepared by Jasiek I took the trouble to ask to enable me to leave an accurate review it's impossible to fault this long established restaurant highest possible recommendation 5* in every way.

Incredibly slow service, like 30min just to have them ask for an order, and another 30min to bring the check… disappointed!

What can I say about this place? Everything about it is fantastic and a pizza to die for, although have it first, lol.

Although the food was excellent, it took FOREVER to get our meal… we waited well over an hour! The waiters were super attentive, really friendly and tried their best; but it was clear that they were understaffed and overwhelmed.

The place was cozy but really crowded. Had to wait for over an hour for the order to come to my table. Clearly, the place is understaffed. There's just a single person preparing everyone's order. There's no doubt that the food was amazing and the staff were very polite. But waiting for an order for that long isn't pleasing at all! The place desperately needs more helping hands.

If you don’t read any further than this sentence, then in summary - just go to Gordon’s Trattoria, you won’t be disappointed. However, read on for full details of a most-excellent visit. Having arrived in Edinburgh with no food reservations, we had always wanted to visit Gordon’s Trattoria, but had never had the opportunity. So, chancing our arm - we called to see if they had any space to fit us in before heading to a show at The Festival Theatre. The member of staff taking the call was the first in a long-line of excellent customer service delivered by the restaurant staff. We were immediately accommodated - and would make our way to the restaurant for a 5pm booking. The restaurant has internal seating as well as roadside seating on the Royal Mile. We chose to sit inside. The service delivered to our table by TWO members of staff was nothing short of excellent. Between both team members, our food and drink needs were well catered for throughout our visit. We had a starter for sharing, which for some, could have been a main course in itself - a stunning focaccia with mozzarella - which was the size of a standard pizza. Freshly made, piping hot and absolutely delicious. For the mains, I had the Calzone pizza, whilst my partner had one of the risotto dishes, The risotto dello chef was a stunningly creamy risotto with pancetta, asparagus and pine nut kernels (on the dish the mushrooms were held). The calzone, well where do I start? A question that I actually put to the male server when he brought it to the table. Perhaps I should have got a hint when an eyebrow was raised when I placed the order and was given a look of “good luck with that one”… I literally have never seen a calzone pizza that looked like the one that was placed before me. Described in the menu as “Folded over pizza stuffed with ham, spicy Italian sausage, mozzarella, onion and peppers and topped off with our homemade Italian tomato sauce.” What the menu doesn’t tell you is that the calzone is massive and crammed full of fillings. But it is absolutely delicious, perfectly made and artistically presented. Freshly made in front of your eyes, and comes to the table piping hot, presented in such a way that it literally leaves you thinking - how do I eat this thing? Despite the pizza resembling a ‘man versus food’ challenge (not really) - I gave it a good go and managed to as good as clear my plate. Overall, both dishes were excellent - prepared by an expert chef and delivered and presented literally across the serving pass to your table. The food was complimented by a level of service attendance from the staff that was just to the level needed. Everything was washed down by a bottle of Pino Blush, which was reasonably priced and in line with what you would expect to pay for a bottle of wine in a restaurant. If you are in Edinburgh and you are looking for some great food, in great portions and prepared and delivered by great staff - then make Gordon’s Trattoria one of your food stops. You will not be disappointed.

Being on the Royal mile, I am sure this place is well known, but it was our first time. My wife and I were walking back up from Holyrood searching for a nice place. We stumbled on Gordon's and the man at the front swung open the door and began signing along with the music. This is how we met Gordon. He advised that a table should open up shortly and invited us to sit at one of the outside tables as we waited, which we did and each had a drink. While we waited, we chatted with the owner and watched him dote on his newest grandchild. He is immensely proud of his business (43 years and running). The staff treated each other as family. We knew we had made the right choice. We ordered the Caprese to start and my wife ordered the Carbonara and I had the Speciale. Our meals were prepared quickly and served by friendly staff. The presentation was plain, but the portions more than generous. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the dishes were full of flavor. We ended with cheesecake (probably least stunning part of our meal) and the sticky pudding, which I apparently love. I can only hope that we make it to Ediburgh again. If we do, we are absolutely sure we'll be visiting Gordon once again.

As we were strolling the beautiful cobblestone streets of Edinburgh looking for something hearty and fulfilling to eat as we had a day planned with much walking, we happened to come across this lovely place! And what better way to have a fulfilling lunch than some Italian! We were pleasantly greeted upon entry and seated promptly. Our server was very attentive and was over to take our drink and starter orders shortly after. We decided on the caprese salad and the bruschetta bread and they were absolutely fantastic, full of flavor and fresh, fresh, fresh! For our mains we opted for the spaghetti carbonara and the spaghetti bolagnese and they were some of the most delicious Italian dishes we had ever experienced! And not to mention the portions were even more fulfilling than we had expected!! The overall experience was absolutely amazing! Would highly recommend!

We visited Gordon's Trattoria restaurant last night and what an excellent time we had. Food was amazing, staff were very attentive and a great time was had by all. First time for all the family to visit and certainly not the last. A hidden gem and a must visit

We went to dinner tonight and the food was great. My husband had the HUGEST calzone we've ever seen. It really could have served 2 or 3 people! I had the spaghetti carbonara which was so tasty, I hated having to leave anything, but it was a big portion. Super tasty. Pleasant staff - it was a team effort and they worked together well. Very tiny, but added to the charm.

An Edinburgh institution that always had a great, warm atmosphere but the decor has changed to a cool blue/white light and doesn’t feel so welcoming now… the food was expensive and while some dishes that we ordered were good, some were a bit below the quality that I would expect for the price. Not as good as it used to be 😕

I don't understand how an organization like trip advisors can give it a score of 4.5 out of 5... Embarrassing! The fact that they offer you tagliolini with pesto makes it clear that they know nothing about cooking, much less Italian. Then the "pesto" is actually parsley with a handful of pine nuts. Finished there. Never again! I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE!!!

Had lasagne as is was recommended by waiting staff. Was tasty but felt a bit ripped off for the size of the portion compared to the price, especially as it didn't come with anything like garlic bread or a side salad... they have to be ordered separately. As for dessert, I'm a big fan of tiramisu but I've never had it with yellow cream filling and no coffee flavour. I ate it though hoping there would be a glimmer of flavour, and that the lack of taste wasn't just because I'd burnt my mouth on the piping hot lasagne! It was also so cold I think it hadn't long come out of a freezer! I Was told upon paying that if I went on a weekend they have a different one delivered in and it's much nicer! I wouldn't have had dessert had I known. Being on the Royal Mile, it's definately a tourist place. Service was great, music questionable!

The venue looks small from outside because of the cosy booths near the entrance but once inside there is plenty of room towards the wider back end of the restaurant. The food we had was excellent and there was plenty of choice. The staff are friendly, helpful and polite. Definitely recommended restaurant.

Perfectly cooked pasta, full of flavour, not over embellished. One of the best pizza dough we've had, thick but not doughy - just perfect.

Welcome earlier simple but no more pleasure than that to welcome us. We were placed on tables in front of the kitchen which is open which is supposed to be cool earlier, but there was too much noise. The kitchen is not the cleanest I have seen. The pasta was super greasy and tasteless I had trouble finishing. I've been there, I won't come back.

Ate at this restaurant because of the very good reviews. Ambience is really not pleasant. The service was very rushed and unrepresentative. Would you like dessert or a drink? No, we're okay for now. And there was immediately the bill and a minute later: Do you want to pay by card? The food was fine, but a bit on the pricey side due to the atmosphere, service, etc. Here too, a service charge of 10% was already included.

Antes de entrar miramos la carta y vimos que la pizza y el calzone valía 16,9 libras, me pareció un pelín alto el precio, pero todo te cambia cuando la ves, el calzone que se pidió mi pareja es enorme y la pizza que me pedí también, la pizza estaba muy buena, era contundente y de masa fina y crujiente, por lo que podría decir que el precio se adecúa a lo que es, sin duda volveremos a repetir cuando volvamos a Edimburgo IMPORTANTE, en todos los lugares que hemos ido cobran el servicio, a nosotros fue casi unas cuatro libras

Amazing food!! Really quick and lovely staff. Also, the best homemade banoffee pie I’ve ever had!!! Would definitely recommend for real, authentic Italian food.

Nice atmosphere here and the food is great, I would highly recommend it, however I would never go back here simply because when I came to pay they added nearly £5 service charge, this is and should be optional as all other restaurants do. I paid it only as I didn't want to spoil the night getting into an awkward situation querying this. But I would not revisit this restaurant after that. The service was perfectly OK but certainly not outstanding.

This is very good authentic Italian restaurant on the Royal Mile in the old city. There was 10 of us as we had friends up from London and two teenagers in the group and everyone loved the food. We did all love the cheese garlic bread with rosemary which was such a simple twist but wow! The service was very good and the food was quickly brought out. Generous portions of freshly cooked pasta, pizza, seafood and chicken just what we all hoped for. Good value too, especially given the location. There was a wide selection on the drinks menu, we enjoyed cocktails and wine. Overall everyone e had a fantastic meal and we will be back as a couple and with family and friends x

The service was really bad and just the services costs 4,70£. The food is the worst italian food I’ve ever eatten. I don’t recommend this restaurant anyone.
