The best restaurants serving Italian food in South East

First red flag should have been the fact we were the only table from 7pm on a Friday night. Ordered arranchini to start - worst I’ve ever had. Barely any risotto rice inside, very hard on the outside and small portion size. Main of monkfish from the specials menu was nice, however so overpriced and would not have ordered it had I clocked the price. Again, Tiramisu for dessert - worst I’ve ever had. I’m not sure how you can mess up tiramisu but they have managed it, Borderline watery, no thickness to the mascarpone cream, did not finish it. This was one of the most expensive meals I have had out, and sadly the standard was sub par. So many great Italians out there, more keenly priced. Once we paid and left, within 5 minutes the doors were shut, lights out. Clearly the only table they were expecting, Note the Italian next door was very busy and this was still the case once we left at 9pm - as it should be on a Friday evening. Personally I would avoid.

Some clever creative cooking in this tiny restaurant . A really great main menu where I could have picked almost everything We popped in for lunch . Smaller menu but great flavours . Tom yum seafood risotto was madly good and a Ventoux as they house red Spot on

Very good food, excellent customer service. Authentic italian food, whilst having a small cosy family run feeling.

Another fabulous trip to Prego as always the food was delicious and service impeccable. We absolutely adore this restaurant. If you’re lucky enough to be in the Stockbridge it’s a must visit. You will not be disappointed

Decided to go zeno on a date night and we were not disappointed, we asked if we could get a romantic table and they surprised us with candles and flowers so it was a very nice gesture from them. The service was excellent and the food was even better. Definitely going back.

A finger licking experience! Food is absolutely delicious and you can tell it’s made from fresh. Service is fantastic. Will definitely go back and would recommend it if you’re in the area. You might want to book first… 😉

This little place serves the most amazing tasty food accompanied By personable staff run by Giuseppe and Fabio. Customers are made to feel like family and you are welcomed personally my. I will never stop eating here. It’s simply the jewel of Hove.

This is our second time to Lago. Generally we have always enjoyed our meals there. The restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere and thr staff are attentive. The title reflects what our thoughts are on our visit yesterday. We all had 3 courses with 2 bottles of wine, a beer and 2 bottles water. One of the main dishes a veal chop was very tough and it was pointed out to us it had been asked for as well done and that causes it to be tough. I think it the was manager who came overand explained that. He was polite to be fair to him. My point is, Im in my 60’s and have been to many restaurants and had a few cuts of meat in my days at various establishments and at home. I must point out that it wasn’t my dish that was the issue here. It was my mother in law’s, she always has her meat well done. Anyway i tried her dish just in case she was being overly fussy or wrong (now that’s a dicey road to go down!) It was tough and it wasn’t cooked well done as requested more like medium. The point is we have all had dishes in restaurants and cooked by ourselves in the past well done and meats generally have been fine, you can be unlucky as it was in this instance. We weren’t looking for a refund on dish my mother in law had eaten some of it and gave up. To be told it was our issue no matter how politely delivered is not the best way to deal with a customer’s concern. Our final bill was £324 for four people maybe a little bit of kindness in dealing with our concern should have been thought of. Otherwise the food was as expected.

What a treat! Pizza to die for!! Great selection, prepped and cooked in front of your eyes in an impressive wood fired oven. Fully licenced. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be going again. Bravo!
