Olivo Margate in Thanet

We have been wanting to try this place for so long but first came the lockdowns and we always left it too late and it was booked up. Finally we booked ahead and got a table on a Saturday night for 2 of us.It was so worth the wait - this is a tiny treasure in Margate. The atmosphere was lovely - romantic and intimate, despite 3 other bigger parties on tables around us. wonderful music playing, delicious smells coming from the kitchen - we truly felt like we had been transported to Italy! And the food - simple, beautiful, incredibly tasty, fresh, authentic flavours. You could really tell everything was made with love. Every dish was perfect and bursting with flavour. The portions were good and both my meat loving partner and my vegan self, felt satisfied and happy. Really wonderful staff - just 3 of them, the owner and chef, the kitchen asssitant and the front of house but they worked together seamlessly. How they manage to do all this and so well, in a tiny space, whilst creating a relaxed, happy and warm atmosphere, is a true to credit to all of them. Many other bigger, higher staffed local restaurants could learn a thing or two from visiting Olivio! We can't wait to come back - a true treasure!

Best pizza in Margate - period. My partner and I couldn’t quite work out what makes Olivo’s pizzas so tasty, but it’s likely that it’s more than one thing: the perfect dough, the quality of the ingredients, the generosity with the toppings, and of course the amazing service. As an Italian, I’m delighted to have found this place to supply me with quality that very rarely I have found outside of Italy. Grazie!

Stunningly good little restaurant run by chef David from Lucca. One of Margate's best kept secrets. This is genuine Italian regional cooking of the sort I used to love when travelling Italy in the seventies. Forget the other posh offerings in town, this is the real deal. Good hearty country food with delicious flavours. Friendly service and a cosy ambiance topped off a memorable evening. Finally the deserts were among the best I have had anywhere. Top marks.

I am so sad. Due to the crazy world we live in I have not been able to come to this wonderful friendly slice of food heaven since March 2020. I arrived sad but leave full and happy. Time has passed but it seems like 2020 again. So glad the restaurant and owner are still here. David is a fantastic cook and host. Friendly staff and 1st class food. What more could you want. The food and service were great. Small restaurant with less than 20 covers, has a feel of a family restaurant with great food and attentive service. Just go there.

Called for dinner whilst on holiday. The restaurant is very small so booking even mid week is a must. The menu is small but the food was delicious and the tomato sauce was to die for. We had our 2 dogs with us and it was nice to find somewhere we could take them. Didn't try desserts as we had no room left but the coffee was good. Only disappointment was the wine list which does need improving and the lack of champagne which I was looking forward to but had Prosecco instead. Really enjoyed our meal and very good value for money.

Had a lovely dinner with my husband. The place is small but very cozy and the atmosphere is very similar to an Italian “trattoria”. The sharing antipasto was just amazing, so full of flavour. Great costumer service, we really enjoyed our visit.

Returned to Margate for our second visit and had to return to Olivo as we had such good memories from last year. We certainly weren’t disappointed as it was every bit as good as we remembered! It was an extremely hot day and I was slightly concerned that it would be too warm in the small restaurant but it was fine. The food was wonderful, fresh and so tasty, the service was excellent too; friendly and helpful but not intrusive in any way. I visited with a couple of friends at opening time, just before attending a concert at the Dreamland site.We were lucky to get a table at opening time without booking as there are only about 6 of them. We were offered a table for an hour prior to another booking, This was fine as we needed to leave after an hour anyway.The staff were warm and friendly and the food was delicious and authenticI ordered Caprino to start - goats cheese, marinated peppers and ciabatta with oil and herbs which was very nicely presented.I ordered the Rustica pizza which was obviously handmade on the premises. This was priced at a very reasonable £11,90 and consisted of pancetta with various cheeses, tomato and herbs. Perhaps not the best presented but tasted superb.Will consider again if I return to the town.

I honestly cannot recommend this place highly enough. The staff are lovely, it’s in a great location, it’s an intimate space, and the food is some of the best Italian food I have ever had. Every dish was perfect. The prices were incredibly reasonable, and the whole atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful. If you can get a table then it’s an absolute MUST.

My partner and I shared the buffalo mozzarella starter which was sensational! The tomato sauce was so full of flavour, we asked for more bread to mop it all up! The Tomato tagliatelle was the most delicious pasta meal I have ever had. The chef came around and checked we were all happy with our food. He did not disappoint! The overall experience was beautiful in an intimate, small and cosy dim lit restaurant, with lovely friendly staff. I already can’t wait to come back here again!

We came here for dinner and all of my family were very impressed. We all had different pizza/pasta dishes and we all loved our food! The inside is very cute and intimate, the waitress was lovely and the chef (who is also the owner) came and checked the food was to our liking too :)

The food here was utterly delicious. We enjoyed garlic breads, bruschetta, pesto pasta, carbonara and, the special, mushroom ravioli. It was all perfect. The tiramisu was also excellent. The service was friendly and we didn’t feel rushed at all. We were a little bit disappointed that the table wasn’t ready for when we had booked. We had to wait 20 minutes for those on the table to finish but by the end of the meal we had completely forgotten this as the food was so good. We would definitely recommend this lovely little restaurant.

Lovely little authentic Italian restaurant. Had the Amatriciana which was excellent. Nice wine selection and all very reasonably priced. Service was decent although a few small details like pouring the wine were missed and the atmosphere could have been a little better. Would recommend overall!

This restaurant was recommended to me by our air bnb host. It’s a tiny place with great service and delicious pizza.

My partner and I visited Olivio on a Friday evening. The staff were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. For starter we had garlic bread with cheese and anchovies - both delicious. We both had the pasta amatriciana for mains, the sauce was beautiful. For pudding we shared the Nutella cake ( make sure you save room for pudding). Overall we really enjoyed our meal. Definitely worth a visit if you like Italian cuisine.

Pizza is amazing, one of the best pizza that we ever eat even in Italy. The salumi as well were faboulous.

I’ve never had a bad meal at Olivo’s, the food is always on point. Love the chef too, he often comes out and asks if you like it. Really sweet caring staff. My other half say it’s the best pizza in Kent. I stick to my pasta and that’s at 10/10 at Olivo’s too!

This is a lovely place! Great food and amazing value. I strongly recommend the Arrabiata pasta - the sauce was so fresh and delicious. Loved it! Great service, and a lovely, homely atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Small restaurant, with just a few tables for service. Food was lovely, especially the antipasti starter, the pickled artichokes were amazing (also included on plate were cheese, meats, ciabatta & aubergines). Service very good, they were busy and the they handled it very well. Lovely evening, would highly recommend and will definitely return when we are in Margate again.

The food was beyond expectation, authentic italian food and accomodating staff. It was our first time to dine to this resto and surely we will be going back again and again.

This is a small cosy restaurant however, the pizzas were excellent and we had a super enjoyable evening. The waitress was very helpful and the restaurant was adhering to covid guidelines. All in all a great evening.

We got talking to a couple of locals during our short stay in Margate and they recommended Olivo, we are so very glad that they did! I phoned to book a table and we were extremely fortunate that they had one free early evening as it turned out it was the last day they would be open in September due to a family holiday. It is a small restaurant, 5 tables but all suitably spaced for Covid reasons, with a real family and friendly atmosphere. We were made to feel extremely welcome and the food is absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant and just wish that we lived nearer!

Delicious Italian cuisine, in very pleasant rustic restaurant in the Old Town of Margate. Try the cheese and spinach pie, it is delicious.

Visited here while on a short break in Margate the staff were great and food brilliant. Can't fault it would definitely visit again - would recommend booking as it's only small.

I visited with my husband and our 2-year-old.Olivio is a charming little place with only 4 tables which give sit a cosy family feel. The menu is limited which is usually a good sign - they do what they do well.I primarily chose this place because I very much enjoy seafood pizza but most places in the UK consider prawns tuna and anchovies to be seafood pizzas. This place, however, offered a proper Frutti de Mare with little octopuses (octopi?), prawns, mussels and squid. They don't have a children's menu but that's fine, we ordered a Margharita for our little one and took the leftovers with us (after all, who doesn't like cold pizza?).The pizzas were good and even though we were pretty full we decided to have some homemade Tiramisu afterwards. We're so happy we did! My husband declared this to be the best Tiramisu he's ever had and I couldn't agree more. It was light and fluffy yet full of flavour.The waitress was absolutely lovely too, service was quick and the prices reasonable. Would definitely visit again!

Six boys with four dogs, getting far too drunk on wine and having the best time! Delicious food (I had a pizza, and two of us asked them if they’d make a carbonara even though it wasn’t on the menu, and they did!), and great hosts. The chef even came and said hi (we were all very glad he did ;) ).

Fantastic and authentic Italian food in Margate's quaint old town. Very nice restaurant with friendly staff and refreshing to be able to have rustic, authentic Italian rather than the standard stuff from chain Italian restaurants. My family ordered a take away from here as they where only doing take away. It was a great offer £50 fo feed 4. All freshly cooked and very tasty. I alway have liked this restaurant it has always been in my top five. The take away was just as good as when you eat in. I would definitely recommend.

Having struggled to find tables elsewhere, we were walking by this restaurant when luckily a table had just become free . Lovely attentive staff ( without being overbearing ) and pizzas were excellent, with an extensive choice. Good range of desserts ( including home made tiramisu and nutella cake, along with gelato and afforgato ). Carafe of water served on arrival. Friendly atmosphere and nice interior. Value for money

We went to Olivo for a meal and it was beautiful! The restaurant was nice with a good atmosphere. The lady who served us was so friendly and helpful. The food was tasty. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. We have rebook for September.

This cute traditional cuccina is run a family run place. Currently only 4 tables and a mini kitchen but David (the Italian chef) and his partner Yulia (the hostess) made it work. Very friendly atmosphere, very attentive, food was to die for, fresh and flavorsome. Could not recommend enough. We were lucky to have gotten a table as it was fully booked from 5.30pm until close so book in advance!

Our first time eating inside a restaurant, post Covid, couldn't have been more enjoyable. We were welcomed and cared for beautifully, from the moment we walked through the door. Garlic bread, salads and pizzas are all great. Authentic toppings and a superb Carbonara. The tiramisu and nutella cake were delicious! This husband and wife team have a family restaurant to be proud of. The house wine was very nice too! We visited more than once in our weeks holiday and would love to go back.

We had a delicious meal last night. The restaurant is small with a lovely friendly atmosphere. There was a good selection and everything was really delicious. The staff were very friendly.

One of the best little Italians we have been to. The pizza is amazing and the pasta delicious. Lovely atmosphere, great service. The only thing I would say is book as it gets very busy in the evenings. We live in London and we’d still prefer this over any Italian restaurant in the city!!

Absolutely the best Italian food I have ever eaten, based upon the quality and price. We had the family take away meal for 4 adults @£50. 2 Meat Feast pizzas, 1 Four Cheese Pie and 1 Frutti Di Mar, fresh food, spiced correctly. Included a mixed starter and our family fighting over the brownie and tiramisu deserts. You will not be disappointed. The olive oil they use comes from his families farm in Tuscany. You will not taste better.

I had Food poisoning hereThey are not pleasant people either. Wouldn’t give us a table as I think they didn’t like the look of my family party. Ordered take away and one pizza gave me (fortunately, not my wife or kids) pretty unpleasant food poisoning.

We had a lovely meal at this charming little Italian restaurant in Margate on the 8th March during a trip down from London. The service was perfect and the food was divine - easily the best carbonara I have had in a long, long time (no cream you see, just egg as it should be). Great value, highly recommended and we will be back! :-)

I have put an average score as I feel maybe if I have pizzas which I don’t particularly like it might’ve been better but the garlic bread starter was delicious the prawns were delicious and olives are olives, main dish we had lasagna which was a portion of lasagna on a plate on its own which I feel would have been better with a nice side salad or garlic bread,etc also we had quiche which again was on a plate on its own??

Unexpectedly came across this restaurant when visiting Margate and decided to come back in the evening for dinner. Got one half and half pizza to share with cheesy garlic bread. Many vegetarian options as well as a yummy vegan pizza. Amazing and friendly staff and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Have visited this amazing little gem in Margate again! So good the choice of new dishes which has increased a lot, and the selection of wine is first class! Very busy on a Saturday night, we were lucky to get a table but definitely good to book in advance. The chef and staff all very friendly and efficient. Great value for money too. This busy little place was fantastic. Excellent authentic Italian menu at reasonable prices right in the centre of town.

Small, family run Italian in the middle of the old town. It was a cold and wet December evening and quite quiet as a result. Pizzas are made with a proper oven on site. There are several vegetarian and a couple of vegan choices. Only catch was it was cash only and I didn't feel like walking around in the rain to get a cash point so didn't stay for a hot drink or desert.

The restaurant itself is a tiny, very cosy place, close to the centre. The service was lovely, open and welcoming with italian and german roots. The menu has typical italian dishes in it, as well as vegan, vegetarian and even gluten free stuff which is gorgeous for a place that sice. If I'd life in Margate, this would be my favourite place to go. And I can't point out enough how cosy and welcoming the atmosphere was, it's just a lovely place to dine with friends and family.

We have dined here quite a few times over the past year and have always had a lovely meal. We are lucky as we are local! Very authentic, quaint restaurant. Service is great and the food is sublime. (Especially the seafood pizza!) Had a amazing dessert last night to... Vanilla ice cream, amaretto and hot coffee, absolutely yummy Would highly recommend.

Visited on Friday to catch up with a friend. Cosy atmosphere, friendly service and really nice food. Had the pasta special and the pasta was perfectly cooked. Home made tiramisu delicious too! Will definitely visit again.

Ate there on Saturday 19th. Pasta menu is small = always a good sign of conscious chef trying to offer his best. We had pasta and pizza plus prawns for starter. The place has made a long lasting impression on us; food was delicious, felt so authentic. It’s really modestly priced. And the service is simply second to none. Nestled in the bo-ho part of Margate this restaurant doesn't boast to be anything other than an honest Italian eatery. My wife and visited Olivo's tonight for the first but will not be the last time. We shared the tricolour bruchetta as a starter, as we thought we would not be able to manage three courses, we were right, we both had the Lasagna as main course and I had the cheesecake and my wife had the pannacota. I am please to be able to say that all the food surpassed our expectation it was all served hot and tasted really nice. The service was cheerful and friendly, and what was nice was that although there are only six tables (it's advisable to book) we were not hurried or rushed so that they could use the table again, we were able to finish our meal at our own pace and leave when we were ready.

My son and I had a most enjoyable lunch at this lovely little restaurant. The bruschetta was excellent and we were both very pleased with our choice of Tagliatelle Amatriciana for our mains. We can't comment on the drinks or wine as neither or us was drinking alcohol but we would definitely recommend the food here.

We had a delivery tonight, dreadful!! When it arrived the pizza's where all mashed into the corner of the boxes, pizza's where ok, not great, I would not have them again and we eat a lot of pizza, my wife is Italian! Had the tiramisu pudding and it was very bland I only had one mouthful and left the rest not even a slight coffee taste. My son always keeps a few slices of his pizza to have for breakfast but even he said we could throw the rest away! I do not understand why this place is so high on TripAdvisor! If you are going to eat here do not get a delivery unless you like mush, total waste of money.

My girlfriend and I have become regulars at this simply amazing place over the past six months and you simply can’t find a better Italian anywhere on the planet. The lasagne is absolutely to die for, the pizzas are a different level and the homemade pesto is just incredible! All in the most friendly environment you could wish for and they even do a killer lemon merengue pie for dessert! An absolute must for anybody visiting Margate or that lives around here - just like us you’ll become regulars in no time!

We visited here as a group. We booked but had a little wait as the tables weren’t free, which couldn’t be helped and the staff were really nice about it.

Aufgrund einer Empfehlung von Freunden - die kürzlich England bereisten - sind wir im Olivo gelandet und hatten Glück noch einen Tisch bekommen zu haben, da fast alle Tische besetzt waren. Das spricht schonmal für sich und ließ auf ein gut geführtes (oder gut bekanntes) Restaurant hoffen. Eher klein aber dafür umso gemütlicher stellte ich mich auf typisch italienische Gerichte ein. Und so war es auch. Mir fiel es wirklich schwer eine Wahl zu treffen, da die Gerichte auf den Tischen der anderen Gäste alle vielversprechend aussahen. Nach der Qual der Wahl bekamen wir einen Gaumenschmaus, welcher mir noch lange in Erinnerung bleiben wird.

What an amazing little find. I found this restaurant with 3 very hungry little people whilst on a day trip to Margate, I'm so glad I did. The staff were very friendly and attentive even though they were busy, the food was amazing and was served pretty swiftly considering everything was prepared fresh (and on view for my little one to see!) I would definitely make the trip back to Margate just to visit here again.. Thank you all x

We was in holiday in Margate and we come accross this little italian restaurant we whent direct to tripadvisor to check, then we decided to book a table. They told us was fully booked but in a second moment they manage to find for us a table we was so happy.I hade a starter and lasagna my housband just a pizza ,everythink was extremely fresh and tasty the restaurant was like to be in italy ,we hade a chat with a table next to us was really a good frienly feeling,they allow the dog in , very nice place !

Went there 22nd. We arrived 10mins late to be greeted by a table full of the previous dinners plates. After watching the table get cleared (not cleaned) we sat. We got given the menu (bland unless you like pizza). We then waited and waited and waited. Just as we was about to leave we finally got asked what we would like. I went for the goats cheese starter and the tagliatelle. We also went for the grossly overpriced bottle of white ponit Grigio. Starters and main really good.

I've eaten at Olivo on quite a few occasions and each visit is perfect. I always try to book in advance as the restaurant gets quite busy especially at weekends. The food is always good, the staff are friendly and welcoming. Such an inviting little restaurant that I look forward to going to again and again.

Whilst we are fortunate in Margate when it comes to our choice of great Pizza, Olivo is my personal favourite... why? Because it is just so authentic and fresh! With every delicious mouthful you can taste the wood fired oven, and the base components are just so good. The tomato sauce base it simply beautiful, so no matter what you choose to top your pizza with, it is guaranteed to be good. I haven't tried any of the Pasta dishes yet, but I look forward to trying them soon.

Ich fand dieses kleine wunderschöne Restaurant am Samstag und entschied mich dort etwas zum Mittag zu essen. Es war eine sehr gute Wahl. Ich wurde freundlich bedient und entschied mich für Pesto. Es war einmalig! Ich war mehr als positiv überrascht. Ich hätte am liebsten noch eine zweite Portion gegessen. Als Abschluss hatte ich ein Nutella Mousse und einen Kaffee. Ich kann nur jedem empfehlen dieses italienische Schmuckstück zu besuchen. Alles im allen das beste was ich in margate finden konnte. Diesen Sommer werde ich mit meiner Familie in margate Urlaub machen und ich weiß jetzt schon das ich mit meiner Familie dort essen gehe.

Auf unserem Trip quer durch England fanden wir in Margate, auf unserer Suche nach einem Restaurant, das "L'Olivo". Nachdem es uns vom äußeren Erscheinungsbild gefiel waren wir drin umso mehr begeistert. Das gemütliche Ambiente lässt einen sofort denken man ist in Italien.

This Place! We love our trips to tuscany and this place brings us right back. Very cosy little restaurant with vintage italian interior, food proper homecooked, very welcoming and they got out of their way to meet my dietary requirements. As I'm italian it's very hard to find something Italian in that restaurant.

We had a lovely evening at Olivo. The people were warm and friendly, the waitress was welcoming and helpful - and the food was delicious!

We had buffalo mozzarella starter and pizzas with house red. Couldn't have been happier. Great cheerful friendly service and great value. A litre of house wine £12.90! Come awwwn! The place is small but the atmosphere is cheerful and chatty. Feels Italian, not like a chain. Got talking to the other diners and the waitress was such a lovely lady, chatty and genuine. Will def be back on our next visit. Pizzas also top class!

Great little Italian. Fast and courteous service. Smelled delicious just walking in! Watch out for their crushed chili flakes!! Insanely hot!!

What a find! Booked this for a Saturday evening with friends - fab atmosphere, fab food, fab service! Will definitely book again! And totally recommended.

Booked a reservation after seeing reviews on restaurant and I was staying down here for a few days. So glad I did, the staff were very friendly, the food was awesome to the tune I had 3 courses which all were perfectly served and tasted delightful . There is no rush and you do get allowed to eat and chat without any pushing. You are best to book a reservation and make sure you have cash as they do not take cards. Prices are excellent and it would be difficult to be disappointed here.
