Cuculo Delicatessen in Wealden

We live locally and love visiting Cuculo regularly to pick up cheeses, salamis and other Italian treats. Their wine selection is also carefully curated by one of the owners, James, who organises wine tastings (including via collection and zoom during lock-downs!) and even wine tours in Italy. On a Thursday and Friday evening you can pre-order a delicious pizza and enjoy a glass of great wine whilst waiting for it. I can highly recommend their Salare red wine! Do visit as it’s lovely and we’re very lucky to have this cracking deli and wine shop in Heathfield.

Delicious Lunch We visited Cuculo, as we passed through Heathfield, based on its excellent Trip Adviser reviews, and we were not disappointed. We had a delicious meat and cheese board with some excellent olives washed down by some superb white wine. The selection was superb and excellent value for money. Worth travelling to and definitely make a detour if you are nearby.

Wow. Look what Cuculo delivered. Goodie box for Mothers day. Still shielding, so can't see my son tommorrow, but will be tucking in to my wine, cheese and chocolate.

I work locally in Heathfield and we wanted to send out some Christmas hampers to our staff. This year, we decided to support a local business and chose to work with Cuculo. I couldn’t be happier with this decision. Cinzia and her team provided excellent, friendly service throughout and listened to all of our requests. We had freedom over what went into our hampers and the value for money was so good, especially compared to big brands. Every item was high quality and packaged beautifully. We were even able to put together a vegan hamper which was packed full of treats. They provided a brilliant service throughout and delivered them to our staff who were working from home to ensure they arrived safely. Would recommend Cuculo without hesitation, whether you’re looking for hampers, gifts or fresh treats, you can’t go wrong. Thanks again to Cinzia and her team! :)

They’ve been fantastic throughout lockdown and prepared a beautiful picnic tailored tour diet and celebration - it was our 3 year anniversary and they helped make it so special

This is a great place for lunch in heathfield. They do a range of platters to suit all tastes and great coffee to boot. Can I also give a big thank you to James, Cinzia and their team for the wonderful cheeses, wines and Italian goodies that the family enjoyed over Christmas. Went to Pizza night....great food and and warm welcome. The wood fired Pizza from the mobile vendor are simply the best I've ever had....shame it's only Friday nights!

Stopped here today for lunch. We shared a selection of delicious meats and cheeses followed by great coffee and sfogliatelle. Great little deli with friendly helpful staff. Shop not only stuffed full of Italian goodies but a good selection of British cheeses. Looking forward to another visit.

Super place to pop-in to buy goodies and stop for a great coffee and a nice lunch. Owners put on evening events blending Italian foods and wines. Highly recommended.

Everything they sell here is delicious. James and Cinzia are the real deal, knowledgeable about their food and wines, cordial hosts, combined with the pizza van on a Friday night its simply fabulous.

Right in the middle of Heathfield High St, share a platter lunch while watching the world go by. If you want a comprehensive food menu this is not the one, but for sandwiches and great salads ( plus good coffee) it’s perfect! Staff are helpful and friendly and the ambience is village sophistication. They do a great range in Italian deli goods and handmade chocolates too!

This little shop is the best, always a nice atmosphere with friendly, helpful staff. Great range of goods from a wide choice of cheeses to yummy pastries.

We visited this deli, in our high street, yesterday. After going passed many times, and liking what we saw every time. We had a great time, enjoying wonderful food. The pizza from the trailer was excellent, and then we had a sharing board. Made up of the most tasty cheeses, Italian meats, huge olives etc. Washed down with cold lager on tap, and a glass of red wine ( chosen from a good range ). Thoroughly recommend and will be returning again.

Great coffee, beautiful food helpful and friendly staff that are never too busy to help you or answer questions. The place has a loyal and diverse following and that is down to the owners and staff being so welcoming every time that you walk through the door .

We’ve been to Cuculo Deli at least a couple of times a month for the last two years but you could easily be forgiven for making this a weekly habit. Particularly dangerous just “popping” in on a Saturday afternoon for sharing platter and a glass of wine (or bottle!) Friday night “pizza night” is a winner for the whole family. A lovely meeting place for friends and equally appealing for a coffee on your own - you’re guaranteed to end up chatting to someone about the amazing wares on offer!

I have been here twice with my family (including young children). Their boards are superb. I am vegetarian and had a vegan board, my hubby is lactose intolerant so we shared a board and he had a selection of meats.

On a gloomy January afternoon, we stumbled into this place in a foul mood - the restaurant we had been intending to eat at was closed.

We were staying in the area and came across this place and decided to stop for lunch.

We came here for lunch and went for the 2 platters for £15 deal which was delicious! I particularly recommend their speciality Cuculo board which the Italian owner will talk you through. Highlights for me were the amazing olives and a very unusual but tasty salami! The artisan bread was the weak link in my opinion but the crunchy breadsticks made up for it. We will definitely be going back!

Very friendly staff helpful and accommodating. Provided oat cakes for wheat free option and changed other ingredients to suit my dietary needs with a smile! Knowledgeable and friendly staff. The food was delicious would definitely go again when in the area.

I have been buying deli treats such as cheese and condiments from Cucolo for a long time but only got to have lunch there last week. As a vegetarian, lunch out can be boring, but not here. Carla provided me with a super lunch with a variety of foods to satisfy any vegetarian. I think they do a vegan option as well as keeping the carnivores happy. Can I also do a shout out to the wine (and food) tasting events. I have been to two so far and have discovered a lot of artisan made wines at very reasonable prices that have been extremely well recieved by discerning freinds as wonderful gifts. The owners and staff are always welcoming and helpful and we are so lucky to have a shop like this in heathfield.

Popped in on a sunny afternoon for some wine and a nibble. Great selection of light bites and platters and sandwiches. Good deli section and great options for wine!

Have long visited Cuculo to buy local and Italian cheese and wines. Now it has a vibrant coffee shop scene as well but is a place to discover new and exciting foods with Cinzia and James providing expert advice. A really great place in a busy high street worthy of support but also a a great place for wine and cheese tastings in the evenings, pizza on a Friday and various events throughout the year.

Recently moved to the area and popped in for a coffee first time around. Great coffee and sweet treats with a fab selection of cheese and deli produce. Been back several times for supplies or to enjoy a board, a glass and a good catch up with friends and not been disappointed. Definitely my go to spot, love it. Keep up the good work guys!

I love the food here, especially to buy and take away, the quality of all food is always outstanding, however, I don't recommend eating in, as the ratio of crackers to cheese is not good, as I ended up with too much cheese at the end.

It’s a deli meets wine bar meets family kitchen. We stopped in this evening for anti pasti and wine, stayed for the atmosphere and friendly service. Lovely relaxed evening. If you’re looking for a authentic food, don’t miss this place.

As well as buying delicious things from the deli we have gone to the Italian evenings, have been seduced by James' extensive regional wine knowledge into trying out new wines and love the Friday community pizza evenings. Such a great, friendly deli, excellently stocked and run by James, Cinzia and their team.

Nos encontramos con este delicatessen en la esperanza de encontrar algo para comer. Al principio, nos ofrecieron un plato de compartir, pero cuando nos explicó que había hecho un largo viaje en bicicleta y esperábamos algo más sustancial se sugirió que teníamos sus empanadas caseras y un plato de ensaladas mixtas - delicioso! Un pedazo de baklava cada uno (puramente para la energía - ¡De verdad! ) y un café nos preparó muy bien para continuar nuestro ciclo al ferry. Amablemente rellenó nuestras botellas de agua.

Needed a few unusual ingredients for a pasta dish. All in stock except the specific pasta but good fresh alternative found. Excellent fontina cheese, lovely flavour. Why just shop? Rest a few minutes, have a great fresh coffee made by James and colleagues from a good espresso machine... and maybe a snack!

I visit Cuculo frequently, it is consistently excellent, it NEVER FAILS TO SATISFY. Yesterday I lunched, panini and salad with a glass of excellent red. The produce is great and the wines first class. James has a discerning palette and selects his wine well across a reasonable price range.

We've visited this place a few times since moving near the area. It's a real treat. Delicious coffee, and food, etc - really want to try and evening here as well. Lots of cheeses and meats and delicacies to be bought too, very friendly!

This is an excellent Delicatessen with a very wide range of foods and wine .The owners specialise in food and wine from France and Italy and European cheeses. Always a very friendly welcome and many items on offer just to try. The owners James and Cinzia are always upgrading supplies and offer advice on dinner parties etc. A catering service is also available together with wine evenings which are great fun.A must when visiting Heathfield,East Sussex

This place is unique, the proprietors make it so! They are amazing.The standard of food is stunning, with cheeses to die for and wines that are excellent. There's always something new to try. A good atmosphere and a great place to stop for a coffee.

We called in last Saturday morning to buy pasties for lunch. As with everything in this shop they were deliceous. We have also visited a couple of times on a friday evening for pizza and a glass of wine which have been very good. The Cucolo wine tastings are also good fun and excellent value. I dont think there is anything that James doesn't know about Itallian wine.

Since Cuculo opened for drinks and antipasti and as a home to eat Community Oven pizzas , it has been our default Friday evening out. Good quality Italian wine and beer, lovely plates of light bites. However, it is open on other days! They serve great, good priced coffee and had a great array of sweet and savoury foods. We are really pleased to visit this great addition to Heathfield High Street.

We have been to a few events held by Cuculo in the evenings. We have also been to a number of their Friday evening stone baked pizza nights where you enjoy a pizza from the local Pizza van (community oven - a converted horse box) and take this into the deli where they can provide beer, wine, accompaniments and desserts. We also buy many products from the deli which are predominantly Italian or local produce. There is always a large selection of different things to choose from and the service there is fantastic!

Dropped in to Heathfield to visit some specialist shops having driven through many times. Had a snack lunch here. Great service and delicious range of healthy foods.

True innovation.Horse box pizza oven and the deli stays open late (not 17:30) as stated on trip advisor. Lovely pizza from the community oven and excellent quality wine . You can finish off with lovely little desserts and good quality coffee. Great atmosphere. A true community feeling. Great staff and service . We really love our Italian Friday evenings out.

Stopped in to have a look and ended up having a sharing platter and taking home cheese and salami for the evening at home.Delightful range of local, French and Italian cheeses and other deli goodies.Heartily recommended.

We dropped in on Friday for nibbles, wine and an amazing pizza from the Community Oven. Very informal set up in the deli. Food, wine beer and service delightfully refreshing. Will return.

I went to one of their occasional evening openings. The food was well cooked but not very exciting or particularly good value for money.

Cuculo Deli, have now teamed up with Community Oven to offer wood fired pizza from their original orange, horsebox mobile pizza wagon. The delicious pizzas can be eaten inside the deli, and washed down with a glass of something James has selected. Friendly atmosphere and a welcome addition to what Heathfield has to offer in the evening. You can skip the pizza and enjoy some of the deli's great local and european cheese instead. Only available on Friday nights.

Another brilliant spot in Heathfield. Stopped here for Morning coffee with the great staff. Lovely well made coffee and croissant for breakfast. Bought a few nice things as well, Cuculo has a lot of those well worth a visit.

Quality quality quality this is what stands out with this establishment. A small family run business in the heart of Heathfield with friendly personal service always a pleasure. They offer a very good selection of wines, cheeses & meats and much much more, unusual selection of deli produce which you do not find everywhere. And Delicious coffee .... A definite must try.

First off this is basically a deli that serves food and drink. But don't let that put you off. The quality of the food is outstanding. We have used the deli in the past for shopping but this was our first visit to eat.There is a fine selection of wines to choose from and some excellent Italian beers. You even get a taster. We ordered a bottle of red wine, recommended by the owner, that was very pleasant and for the food we had a mixed plate, which contained some home made pizza, pecorino cheese drizzled in honey and topped walnut, cured meat , Stilton and a couple of bowls containing bread, cheeses nibbles . We also had plate of thinly sliced local beef. Both were excellent, but the beef was stunning.We also had a selection of sweet pastries/pasta, which were also delicious and some fine Italian coffee.The cost was about £20 a head. There were 4 of us and in total we had 2 bottles of wine and a couple of beers plus the food. All of the highest quality.Opening times are 07:30 - 21:30, so breakfast, lunch and dinner.Would go there again? Defiantly , would I recommend it? Yes

Unbeatable range of local cheeses, superb choices of British cheeses, fantastic range of European cheeses; lovely Italian sausages and hams. Check out their home produced cooked meats, pastries and pies. There range of wines are a carefully selected bundle of delights.

Heathfield is lucky to have such a great deli. Wonderful selection of cheeses, meats, olives etc. We adore the fresh pasta - imported from Italy. Lovely fresh breads from the bodium bakery.The owners and staff are so helpful and give cooking advice if needed, we got everything we needed for our pasta making afternoon and some extra advise thrown in - fab.

This deli is the best shop in Heathfield and not really a cafe. But the do serve very good coffee at the front of the shop on an old school table and benches. While sipping your coffee you can listen to the husband and wife Anglo-Italian owners dealing with their customers with huge knowledge of their produce, particularly the cheese and wine. You won't get out without buying something delicious.

I was asked by the Cuculo Deli if I wished to become a member of their dining club as I use their shop for purchasing cheese and other products. Club members are invited to attend and pay for an evening meal to be served in the shop at tables and benches covered with pretty french Provencaal table cloths. Not knowing what to expect, I was very surprised to have the most delicious Italian Antipasta, main course of stuffed pancakes followed by fabulous poached pears with chocolate sauce and crushed hazel nuts. All of which was prepared on site by the Italian owners.. Excellent coffee and a very interesting glass of red or white wine with a full description was included. A really good desert wine called Birbet was offered by the glass at a modest price. Sadly being a car driver I had to decline but I had a taste and decided immediately to purchase a bottle to take home with me.In spite of being solo, the owner James and all the other guests made me very welcome and a thoroughly good evening was had by one and all. I shall not hesitate if asked to attend another such evening.

This is a proper delicatessen. So many purport to be, but simply sell a few cheeses, some olives and loads of expensive packets. All these things can be found at Cuculo, of course, but the selection is great, the quality excellent, and most important, the knowledge and enthusiasm of the owners is unsurpassed.They have wines you won't find in any supermarket, incredible selection of cheese, coffee, delicious snacks and things you never knew you needed but won't want to be without.Products are often sourced from Italy direct having been tried and selected with care. Nothing is too much trouble for this place, if you want something special, just ask. If it can be, it will be supplied. While there you can have a a great cup of coffee too. Visit this shop and discover why Italians love food so much.

This deli is fantastic. Loads of organic products, good wine, Italian delicatessen and some food pre-made. Maybe needs more popular brands for organics but what they have is good. Could be great if they added a few chairs and table and an Italian coffee machine on site.
