Helwith Bridge Inn

Penyghent, Craven
27/05/2021: We stayed in the bunkhouse which is basic but really great value for money, has a fridge / sink and four bunks, although you'll need to bring a sleeping bag. The electricity meter only takes old pound coins, but you can exchange them at the bar - a quid lasted us overnight with the heater, fridge and phone chargers going and the bunkhouse was warm and comfy to stay in. There's also an accessible toilet for when the pub is closed if you're staying overnight. The inn itself has really reasonably priced food and drink, with big portions! Staff were super kind and accommodating - highly recommend whether you're staying overnight or just stopping off.
25/05/2021: Absolutely fabulous hospitality from Carol and Paul tonight. Food was delish. Service superb. Nothing too much trouble.

The Royal Shepherd

Skipton North, Craven, <20£
03/06/2021: We visited as 2 couples, we reserved but the pub was quiet, it was Thursday evening before the Bank Holiday. The portions were incredibly generous & mainly well cooked. The meat in the Steak Pie was delicious & the Fish & Chips were excellent. The tenderloin pork was slightly overcooked, but not enough to stop it being eaten & enjoyed. Great value. No room for pud. Pleasant, kind staff. We will be back. Thank you.
01/06/2021: Great family food. Extensive menu and lots of food when it came. All cooked to everyone’s liking. Service was attentive without being too much. Went with grandparents and kids and everyone found something they wanted and clean plates at the end! Perfect

Greenwood Cafe Bistro

Skipton North, Craven
12/07/2021: We had the most fabulous lunch and wine at Greenwood's Café Bistro in Skipton on 26th June 2021. We had the lobster ravioli and the Greenwood burger. The presentation was 10 out 10 the food was absolutely fabulous accompanied with the finest wine. I would highly recommend Greenwood Café Bistro and look forward to our next Visit. Skipton and Greenwood is a new destination for us and we only discovered this Gem due to my husband working there for a few days, excellent in every way, thank you.
11/07/2021: Next visit. Same good service, excellent choices from the menu, good food. Situated in a lovely narrow street with other cafes and shops. Great ambience. Recommended.

The Angel Inn Restaurant

Barden Fell, Craven
31/05/2021: I'll start by saying that the food was amazing. So we were late for our lunch, after been at home for sooo long we forgot to factor in holiday traffic? Jenny who answered the phone to inform the Angel of this traffic faux par was incredibly understanding and accommodating. We were met on arrival and welcomed and briefed of covid routines, all excellent. None of this impacted on the enjoyment of our meal at all, the restaurant still felt bustling but safe with no missing atmosphere, something I was worried about, well done the Angel. The angel has several dining areas so although it has quite a few covers you still feel cosy and that you are one of only a few diners which is a nice touch.Food was excellent, the pace of our lunch was lovely and relaxed which is how lunch should be and the service just the right pitch of attentive but relaxed..pretty much perfect! Sorry did I not say the food was amazing? Will definately be back....... Am also tempted by Michael Wignalls guest appearance at the yet-to-open new restaurant in our home country of Cumbria HEFT. I'm now one of your long term fans.
29/03/2021: It may be because of covid, so i’ll forgive them, but felt we missed out on the usual matre d’ meet and greet pleasantries, no “would you like a drink first while you peruse the menu and wine list” , ah mr. Wignall something like the devonshire cocktail bar would be good.We were met a little casually and shown immediately to the table by a very nice waitress who told us to log in to view the menu online, no printed copy, eek ( The coniston hotel manage it so can’t be too tricky)I’m no luddite, being a software designer for many years, but reading a menu on your phone and explaining it to your wife, with poor wifi may be great for spoons but lacks that fine dining experience. The decor is ok, not sure about the concrete floor, been many times in it’s previous guises and probably prefer the previous cosy country ambience, rather than the current more urban, open plan chic. The waitress was a very nice, pleasant young lady but unfortunately was out of her depth with the wines, we presume there was no sommelier as she didn’t bring one.I like the idea of introducing some of the new wine makers, but you need someone who knows their stuff to enthuse and explain.Must admit a great sommelier and maitre d’ are as key as the food and are the difference between the great and the ok. The devonshire had an brilliant one ( probably there when mr. Wignall was there) he always remembered your name and managed to find that reasonable bottle of pomerol, not necessarily on the wine list.We ordered the taster menu.No amuse bouche, must admit that is a first from a michelin star restaurant and a big negative, you miss that build up expectation. The serving staff were very nice but lacked experience and the recanted details of food were scant and a little rushed. However, the food is fabulous, without doubt some of the best dishes we have tasted. Clever mixing of unusual flavours and textures to enthuse and please the palette. Must admit though, some portions are a little small even for a taster menu, similar to l’enclume’s but they have about 16 courses.Another disappointment was the lack of care when we were leaving, we told them we were going to get a taxi, but they didn’t ask if they could assist or even suggest we sit near the bar to wait for it.The food is undeniably 2 michelin star quality with a delicacy of touch and fabulous flavour combinations equal to some of the best restaurants we’ve dined in.However, you’re left feeling that it is all done with a strict eye on costs ( I suppose Richard does have his ferrari to pay for :) ) and perhaps a lack of thought for the whole customer experience, so sorry have to dock a star.

The Game Cock Inn

Ingleton and Clapham, Craven
27/05/2021: Our first time actually eating inside here, the update to the garden seating is fantastic. Service is impeccable, friendly and fast. Food is delicious and everyone enjoyed everything we had. The newly installed bakery is a great addition to the village and well worth a visit even if you don't have time to pop in for a drink.
27/05/2021: Warm welcome on arrival. Good menu choice including gluten free options. Husband had lamb dish which was very tasty and came with good selection of vegetables. My GF fish and chips were some of the best I have had. Managed to fit in a dessert - again both were excellent. Normally GF diners have the choice of fruit or ice cream so it was refreshing to have some "normal" options available. The GF chocolate tart was excellent. We had a lovely meal and were locked after by a great team. We will be back!

Riverbank Burnsall

Barden Fell, Craven
03/05/2021: We had a great , unexpected visit to the Riverbank today . The rain shortened what would have been a long day out on the hills . Instead we decided to take ourselves for a coffee and a sandwich as we were feeling too cold and soggy! The cafe has a superb location right next to the impressive Burnsall bridge . I had a chicken and avocado foccacia and Lu had the vegetarian option , an asparagus romesco ? They were both absolutely delicious ! Really generously sized, homemade bread , (the best foccacia I've ever tasted) fresh and you could tell they were made from quality ingredients . Soooo impressed . We weren't expecting that sort of special . It really made our day ! The chap that served us was really friendly and even gave Lu his recipe for dandelion jam. Thank you so much ! We can't wait to come back .

Middle Studfold Farm Tea Room

Penyghent, Craven
06/05/2021: Lovely to sit outside on sheepskin rugs and enjoy the view whilst eating. The service was quick and efficient and food tasty and well presented. Would highly recommend.
05/05/2021: Well it was wet and cold but the welcome couldn't have been warmer for 2 veterinarians and a gluten free meat eater oh and Bailey dog! We did phone to make sure they were open on such a wet day, and I think they opened just for us! The breakfast was cooked while we waited in extra fast time and even thought we did say take away when we changed our minds and opted for the outside picnic table, plates were provided along with umbrellas when the rain came back! Will go again hopefully in better weather
