Piper's Pitch

Longhoughton, Northumberland
09/01/2018: It seems to be at bit silly to write a review for what amounts to nothing more than a small catering van on wheels in a car park but there's something quite special about this one. You have to wait a bit and that's because everything is cooked fresh. We tried the Auchtermuchty...haggis and bacon butty... and guess what? They were absolutely delicious. A few more pence spent by the proprietor on a better quality /roll/bun/whatever they are called up here/ but that's a minor issue. What a great find.
02/01/2018: Called in here for lunch on a snowy cold day.Log fires burning and a warm welcoming atmosphere. The famous Crasher crab sandwiches were fresh and substantial. The fishcakes were served with home cooked chips. Both were delicious. So pleased we made a detour. Lovely in Winter and great in Summer with amazing sea views.

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
16/01/2018: I popped in for breakfast. I received a warm welcome from a pleasant Italian lady, and the chef was kind enough to make me what I fancied (even though it wasn't on the menu).I ordered a cafe latte, and a sausage and egg sandwich. The coffee was perfect, and the sandwich was just dreamy: warm in my hands, crispy fresh bread, with a delicious pork and fennel sausage. The egg was fried perfectly. I added a touch of tomato sauce. This perfect delight was complimented with a side helping of fresh rocket and tomato, nicely dressed in olive oil. This cost me just over £5.00, and I sincerely thanked them for a beautiful breakfast, which was so nice that it actually cheered me up. Five out of five.
16/01/2018: What a lovely little restaurant, the food, service and atmosphere was second to none. Will definately be back

Cafe Sapore

Hartburn, Stockton-on-Tees
18/01/2018: Very very nice. Small cafe obviously trying to be a restaurant when you look at their prices. However we had sunday lunch there which was excellent and was certainly worth the price. I think because of where its located i expected it to be cheaper. Cant wait to go back now . Go and try it. Excellent chef.
02/01/2018: Yet another great evening last week. The three of us had Stroganoff, Liver and Salmon from the specials and all were excellent. We also all had Affogata (spelling?) which is a long standing favourite here. I'm not sure that lime pickle enhanced the starter scallops but apparently the locals like it as well as chips. No French wine on the list but Louise will get you some if you pre-order..A gem of a restaurant.

Simbla Indian Resturant

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne
16/01/2018: Simla genuinely ticked very box on my perfect curry house tick list. We arrived what we thought was on time, 8:00, to be told are table was booked for 8:30. We said we could come back in half an hour but we were told this would not be necessary and we were seated straight away. After a good look through the menu we were surprised to see sea bass and lobster on the menu, as well as other tasty and different sounding options. We all had a starter, man and a side. The food was delicious and was a few levels above the normal standard of curry house you get. I wouldn't call it gourmet but definitely much, much better than the norm. The service was efficient and friendly and the bill came to £35.00 each. This included a bottle of wine and six large beers. Excellent value. Not only would I go again, I'm really looking forward to it. Perfect.
15/01/2018: Excellent food but very spicy! The food was very tasty but it was spicy, even down to the keema naan being spicy! The scallops were to die for!The atmosphere was great but did feel a little busy and rushed but then again it was a Saturday night.

Di Meo's

Whitley Bay, North Tyneside
14/01/2018: A friend of mine recommended this place but I was confused as I thought they only did ice cream, had no idea they served cooked food. Tried it out a couple of times now and wow! This place is fantastic! The pizzas are lovely. I had a diavolo pizza for £8.50, it was so tasty, probably one of the best I’ve had and priced sensibly. Staff and owner very friendly, I love coming here and always recommend it to friends and family. Keep up the good work guys!
13/01/2018: I bought a Sprinkled Sugar Ice Cream Cone with Ferrero Rocher and Milky Bar Ice Creams, Both Ice Creams tasted wonderful.

Low Lights Tavern

Tynemouth, North Tyneside
14/01/2018: Visited the Low Lights with 4 friends for Sunday Lunch - on the upside the food was excellent, the price competitive, the staff friendly, efficient & helpful. On the downsideI we were put off returning by three diners on an adjoining table asking for a spare plate on which they put a portion of dinner for their pet dog. The dog’s food was carefully cut up and placed on the bench seat between ourselves and two of its three fellow diners. The dog jumped up and joined them at the table! We enjoyed our food. Have nothing against dogs, but don’t like sharing our dining experience with one and that’s a real shame as The Low Light Tavern as it’s one of the best food pubs in North Tyneside!Sorry Guys!
14/01/2018: Having seen the reviews on here we decided to go along for Sunday lunch and we certainly weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was very homely with an open fire warming the room gently. The Steak and Ale was lovely, tender with lots of flavour, vegetables were cooked to perfection, the meats were all well cooked and the sticky toffee pudding (with the ice cream) was light and tasty. Very good service. We will be back.

The Harbour View

Hartley, Northumberland
30/12/2017: As a devoted fish and chip fan, I keep returning to Seaton Sluice and the Harbour View. Lovely fresh fish, really friendly service and always consistent. I think the best fish and chips I've ever had anywhere! Say No More!
22/12/2017: This is by far the best fish and chips we've ever eaten. The restaurant is also great in terms of it's decor, cleanliness and all the staff who were attentive and friendly.Super value for money as the fish is huge with a mountain of chips and a large portion of mushy peas. All washed down with endless hot tea. Truly excellent.Would definitely recommend going here and if they are busy and you have to wait to get a table I'm sure you'll find the wait worth while.

The Orangery, Rockliffe Hall, Hurworth

Hurworth, Darlington
13/01/2018: Great food, fantastic wine and reasonably attentive service. Nice setting, and not prohibitively expensive.
29/12/2017: Bring back the a la carte or a shorter menu rather than just the full degustation! We love full tasting menu with paired wines but not in every night of our stay.

Raval Luxury Restaurant & Bar

Bridges, Gateshead
27/12/2017: My wife and l went to this restaurant with my son and his wife. The staff were very attentive and very friendly.we had an early meal before 7pm as a special it was very good.
13/12/2017: This restaurant is conveniently located over the road from the Hilton hotel, my hotel of choice in Newcastle. I came here a year ago and was really impressed. The time though, it was still as good as before - clean and fresh, with friendly staff. The popadoms were fresh but the chutneys could have been better - I didn’t choose a starter but went in with a spicy lamb dish and garlic Nan. The chunks of lamb in the dish were huge and very tender - really impressive - the garlic Nan was nicely dry with a minimum of oil. A really lovely experience, well worth the extra fiver over what I normally pay in curry houses. Definitely in my UK Top 3!

Knitsley Farm Shop Cafe and Granary Cafe

Delves Lane and Consett South, County Durham, 30-45£
07/01/2018: The food, service and staff were all great. I found a few weeks ago while out for a bike ride and enjoyed a very nice sausage roll, so decided to take my baby daughter back for lunch. The food is all freshly prepared and well presented. Like virtually everywhere, there is no real provision made for toddlers, only kids meals, which revolve around chips etc. Thankfully, they were able to make us a little scrambled egg on toast, which went down great. The farm shop was great, the steak we bought was fantastic. Really glad I found this little place.
06/01/2018: called in whilst on a walk , nice and clean ,various foods available , had a hot meat sarnie It was fab......prices are ok. Have been back since with family .

Dawdon, County Durham, <20£
11/01/2018: Visited the other day but the place is only good for fully able people. Good luck with a wheelchair or a baby stroller or pram as 2 huge steps greet you before you get into the building. Perhaps they should look at investing in a ramp. The amount of people refused entry due not having bookings is a concern surely have something written on the doors before entry??
10/01/2018: Decided to call in Humbles for coffee before going for our train and really glad we did. As well as having coffee we ended up having cake as they looked so good we couldn't resist. I can honestly say it was one of the best slices of cake I have ever had and the lattes were really nice and hot. All the staff were really friendly and helpful and the café has a really nice relaxed and cosy feel about it. We are hoping to visit Seaham again in the summer and will definitely go back to Humbles for more coffee and yummy cake.

The Village Tearoom Alnmouth

Lesbury, Northumberland
21/12/2017: Whilst in the area I have been in 3 times !The tearoom has a fantastic menu, hard to choose. Good old stotties, and today I had the corned beef, potato and onion pie. Haven’t had that for years, it was really tasty. Dog friendly, we had the dog there in April. As the other reviews attest - the staff are warm, welcoming and friendly. A real credit to beautiful Alnmouth, thank you so much.
13/12/2017: Excellent staff, efficient and friendly - nothing is too much trouble.Tasty selection of cakes and snacks, deluxe hot chocolate is a must!Cosy and comfortable, lovely surroundings.Friendly staff really are the icing on the cake!

The Raby Hunt Restaurant

Heighington and Coniscliffe, Darlington
18/01/2018: There isn't much more that I can say about this restaurant than has already been said. The tasting menu was amazing, the wine pairing delicious, the extra cheese course tasty and the dessert wines delightful. The bill was equally staggering. We elected to stay the night B&B. The room was perfectly good, although very overpriced for what you got, but as it was right over the kitchen did get a little noisy in the morning. That said, we had an unforgettable meal and look forward to going back again.
11/01/2018: The food was out of the world but the best thing was the staff the service was unbelievable! So helpful and very knowledgeable about every dish and the wines could not rate it any better!!

Peace and Loaf Jesmond

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne
18/01/2018: Well I have to admit this is our favourite restaurant and it is walking distance from where we live. Having said that I would probably fly to it if it was in any other city in the world. What makes it so special? Well first, the staff. It is clear they are a team, from the chefs doing their magic in the kitchen to the smiling waitress who has only been working their two days but has clearly had expert encouragement and training. The place runs like clockwork. Being able to see into the kitchen you can witness the careful preparation of food. Works of art on stylish local pottery made plates are delivered to tables at regular intervals. Don’t expect to be merely fed here. The food is a visual feast with quirky touches and attention to detail. The menu offers choices but in and amongst you will sample extra courses reminiscent of the best tasting menu but without the pomp and price. For those of us who are frequent diners here, these extra dishes change with the seasons so nobody gets bored and they show case the chefs skills beautifully. Lastly it’s not just Dave Coulson in the kitchen although he is the driving force. I have eaten at peace and loaf on his days off and the kitchen still produces top quality food with all Dave’s flair. If you want to leave feeling so full you could burst this is not the restaurant for you, if you want to experience a culinary journey it is.
17/01/2018: This was not the first time we had eaten here and once again Peace and Loaf provided us with an exceptional meal.Presentation, quality and service were flawlessWe started with raw steak pie and Kems parsnips, whilst these were being prepared complimentary and beautifully presented "treats" arrived, fresh bread with whipped dripping, salmon fish cakes, sweet potato macarons and a ham hock croquette - all of which were just delicious.Mains were pork belly with smoked eel and a red mullet with shrimp risotto - again fabulous and were preceded by another "treat" - a miniature cottage pie. The cottage pie was exquisite.Dessert of tangerine and Rhubarb - divineThe food here, is of the quality that when the first forkful hits your mouth, you close your eyes and savour the flavourIf you haven't booked a table yet ..... doYou won't regret it

Amble, Northumberland
12/01/2018: Popped in for lunch today and had a lovely meal. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner and his helper Carol. Great to see so much fresh fish on the menu using local suppliers. Having been in Amble for the last few months I wish we had visited before. We both had the fish pie which was delicious. I attempted a dessert but I think my eye was bigger than my stomach as I could not finish it. Well worth a visit. Will go again.
04/01/2018: Stumbled across this nice bistro over the New Year whilst out for a drive in Northumberland. We were looking for a coffee house for cake/scones etc, decide to change our plans when we stepped in here, so pleased we did. Mussels for starters mmm, followed by Chilli crab soup fabulous. Then fish pie and our sweet was bread and butter pudding not just any bread and butter pudding this was to die for, made for the first time by Conner. The owner Ryan whom we had a lovely conversation with certainly knows how to cook, we will certainly return in the spring as the menu changes regularly.
