The Raby Hunt Restaurant

Heighington and Coniscliffe, Darlington
15/03/2018: Almost otherworldly dining experience. Lovely setting in a quiet village miles from anywhere. Warm welcome from attentive, but not overbearing staff. Tasting menu only option, but the waiter did ask if any of us had any issues with anything on the menu (we didn't). The food was outstanding, the flavours seeming to build and change and linger with each mouthful. Particular highlights being the pork belly taco, langoustine tempura, winter salad and the lamb ragu with the main course, but every course was genuinely outstanding. I don't think I've ever eaten a meal as good and would jump at any opportunity to return. Wine flight was expensive, but complimented the courses wonderfully and unlike some similar experiences, the waiters were quick to top up if needed without having to ask. The optional cheese board after the end of the meal probably wasn't needed (courses were small but we were all full), but I'm glad we shared 2 between 4 of us, because the cheeses were also excellent. Just a fantastic evening and I can't recommend highly enough.
14/03/2018: My son is at Durham University and we had not really celebrated his 21st birthday. So having seen The Raby Hunt on Masterchef (yes a cliché I know) I said I would take him and one friend there for dinner - and clearly I wanted to go as well.
