South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
18/08/2017: Checked Tripadvisor for a good Italian and we were not disappointed by our choice of Mascalzone. We had two from the Specials Board, one chicken and one lamb dish. Both were cooked beautifully and the service was excellent. The pizzas looked fabulous too as did the desserts. Would recommend highly.
16/08/2017: I have visited this restaurant twice, both times for lunch. Spoilt for choice from a full menu or a special of the day board. The first time we shared a platter of mixed delights cheese, cold cuts, roast veg ,lovely bread, and a glass of red. Next visit from the board i chose a wonderful fish dish, and my sister had carbonara saying it was the nicest she had ever tasted. All washed down with some nice cold fizz. The staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is lovely. Its only a small space so best book. All of this and you don't need a loan.

Simbla Indian Resturant

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne
20/08/2017: We visited on a Friday evening. I have to say this was a real find. The staff are extremely friendly. The food was delicious. I can highly recommend the lamb shank Kashmiri Rogan josh. Try it with keema naan - yum! If I was picky, my king prawn starter was a little overdone (slight burnt taste from the grill) but this didn't detract from an otherwise great experience.
19/08/2017: First time here and was swayed by daughter's recommendation and reviews on TripAdvisor. Really pleased to say that the evening was fantastic - food, service and value for money. There were 4 of us in the group - everyone was of the same opinion. The lamb shank kashmiri was superb. We'll be back - make sure that you book in advance to avoid disappointment!

St Aidans Restaurant

Bamburgh, Northumberland
19/08/2017: We ate here last Thursday and in general the food was excellent. The slow cooked beef (takes 30 minutes from the time of ordering) was amongst the best I have tasted anywhere in the world and my wife enjoyed the mussels with a garlic cream sauce (offered as a "special"). A "comment" however is that my daughter's chicken was quite dry. The flavour was good, although the accompanying beans did not have enough sauce to provide enough moisture to fully complement the chicken.Another comment for consideration is that the standard of the food was not quite matched by the bread and butter provided, which was one type of sliced bread and butter served in purchased foiled portions. Again in my experience a restaurant with this standard of food usually provides a variety of bread and the butter is, e.g. pressed or curled into ceramic dishes, not purchased and served in foil packets. Overall however, we enjoyed an excellent meal, therefore many thanks to the chef, owners and staff.
17/08/2017: Delicious meal, excellent service and relaxing feel. The tiger prawns in white wine starter was extremely tasty and my slow cooked beef just melted in the mouth. The recommended wine was perfect. This was my birthday present from my sister and was certainly a huge treat. Stunning views added to a very pleasurable evening.

Di Meo's

Whitley Bay, North Tyneside
20/08/2017: Thoroughly enjoyed my battenburg icecream and my son loved his Milky Way icecream. We were served quickly (outside window) and found the prices good given the seaside location.
19/08/2017: Pizzas are fresh and a reasonable price for what you get, the ice cream is amazing the battenburg one went down well while the Parma violet one was yummy can't wait to go again

Amble, Northumberland
21/08/2017: We're taken to Jaspers by my son and his wife, the food was amazing - steaks were cooked to perfection, the halibut with mussels was beautifully cooked, seafood risotto was so rich and tasty... and the presentation was exceptional. Looking at the starter and mains prices I initially thought it was going to be a little pricey..but the quality was so good and the portions were very generous which meant the cost was reasonable!... we'll be back!
19/08/2017: Husband's birthday treat, and what a treat front of house Mikey was excellent, the food was sublime and the ambience first class. We will definitely be back.

The Harbour View

Hartley, Northumberland
20/08/2017: The Harbour View Fish & Chips shop is the best in Northumberland (so far). Their fish is flavourfull. The flesh is very tasty however the batter is artificial and so is best avoided. However, everything else considered, the food is definitely worth a visit. The one large cod and chips was enough for us both and could even feed a family. The prices are typical for fish and chip shops; but still worth the money. A large code and chips with a corned beef fritter/pattie was over £9.
19/08/2017: Very good fish and chips in the area. Good protons. Good value for the money. Very busy and well staffed. Good customer service.

The Raby Hunt Restaurant

Heighington and Coniscliffe, Darlington
19/08/2017: rooms are really nice, with everything you need and want, we had drinks outside in the afternoon. dinner was a fantastic experience, every course had amazing textures and real depth of flavour, staff were very passionate about what they did and what they served. really enjoyed out night away from start to finish
15/08/2017: My husband had organised this visit as part of my birthday celebrations... and I certainly was not disappointed. From being met at the door by a very pleasant young man, through all the tasting menu dishes to finally meeting chef James at the end of our meal, we were well cared for and experienced a wonderful evening.

Knitsley Farm Shop Cafe and Granary Cafe

Delves Lane and Consett South, County Durham, 30-45£
17/08/2017: Had a lovely walk from Lanchester to Knitsley & back today - an 8ml round trip with lunch at the Granary at the halfway mark. Lovely food all freshly prepared - I had the best ploughmans I've ever had & my husband said his hog roast bun was delicious. Staff are very friendly & efficient. It's a bit on the pricy side but for food of this quality we didn't mind. Give it a try - you'll not be disappointed
14/08/2017: Very nice, very small eating place. Too expensive for me. If you go latish the staff cleared the table while we were drinking our tea. Not impressed. Been 3 times to give it a chance, won't return.

Peace and Loaf Jesmond

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne
20/08/2017: Had a top meal during restaurant week and was delighted to see that canapés and amuse bouch were produced despite the bargain price for either 2 or 3 courses. A real pleasure which we weren't expecting. These were all excellent. All the food was delicious. The hanger steak was sensational with its rich deep sauce; a beautifully conceived and constructed plate. The vegetarian option was also great on every course. 5 of us returned clean plates for every course...Great service, fabulous food, thank you!
20/08/2017: the food was interesting and competently cooked. No complaints there, but the pricing is really top end - three courses, plus drinks (inc one bottle of wine) came to £170 for two - without tip. Caveat emptor!

Low Lights Tavern

Tynemouth, North Tyneside
20/08/2017: Quirky and cosy pub . Amazing Sunday lunch .. Great price. Excellent service. this is an amazing haunt and can't wait to visit for a night out soon .

Raval Luxury Restaurant & Bar

Bridges, Gateshead
18/08/2017: Favourite curry venue in the region and there are some good ones! Price has increased but so has the food ! Tandoori salmon starter is worth the visit alone and Giant prawns for main are something special! Not to be missed
08/08/2017: This restaurant is by far one of the best Indians in Newcastle. The restaurant itself is beautifully laid out with excellent decor and a cool atmosphere. There are some lovely paintings as you walk in, and the welcome staff is friendly and helpful. The reception area is spacious and luxurious, make you feel indulged. There is a luxury bar on the ground floor which services wines, beers and cocktails. It not overpriced like most top restaurants but there is an exciting buzz about this place. However, the best part of this restaurant is the food. There is a range of unusual dishes on the menu (the fish is really special) and absolutely superb service. The waiting staff are impeccable due to the tight ship the restaurant manager runs, which makes for fast, polite and courteous dining every time.If you are visiting Newcastle and looking for new Indian food experience I'd recommend raval Gateshead

Guisborough, Redcar and Cleveland
21/08/2017: Lovely ambience, colourful décor. Staff friendly and helpful. Gins were amazing and the food good from tapas, homemade burgers to fish, steak and curries. My Fish Rendang was a great choice while my husbands steak was cooked to perfection. Arriving late the first night they were fully booked but squeezed us in for a tapas at the bar and we made sure we made a reservation before we went home.
21/08/2017: Food average but lovely staff. Bit expensive for my taste. Drinks were very expensive. Visited for a meal with family. Maybe will return.

Mumbai Flavours

Alnwick, Northumberland, 45-60£
19/08/2017: Been to Mumbai for quiet a few sit down meals and the odd few take away, each time service and food has always been spot on. Friendly staff who are always very welcoming, Food is always piping hot and very tasty,
19/08/2017: MUMBAI FLAVOURSIndian ResraurantAt Alnwick there are a number of restaurants to choose from but one of the snags caused by 'good reviews' is that well recommended ones are popular and surprise, surprise, can be full! We were in Alnwick for a couple of nights, and dined at the hotel one night and walked out the other, to find either the Cantonese or Thai restaurant we had researched with the help of reviews on Trip Advisor. No problem finding them, however, Cantonese full, Thai full! Can fit you in but much later both said trying to do their best. But late evening wasn't right for us.So we needed a 'Plan B' and looked around and found what actually would have been my personal first choice! An Indian restaurant that we are very pleased to have experienced.Quandary, do I submit an honest review and risk the place being full when we return to Alnwick, or keep quiet? To be fair to MUMBAI FLAVOURS and to the excellent staff, it would be mean of me not to tell the world that this is a great restaurant.A waiter quickly approached us and the reception was polite and welcoming. The restaurant was quite busy but had a couple of remaining tables, that of course subject to any folks booked and still to arrive. Fortunately our enquiry was successful and we were shown to a table upstairs and we then realised that the restaurant catered for a considerable number of covers on two floors.Immaculate white table cloths and serviettes, attractive well laid out menu cards added to our anticipation of a tasty meal. Drinks order. Wine or beer? We chose Cobra Indian beer brewed in the UK! The 660cc bottles larger than a pint were good value and great to accompany Indian food which justified a second round!Food was brilliant, spoilt for choice. We settled for onion bhajis followed by Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi, Pilau basmati rice and Peshwari naan bread. Our waiter kindly pointed out that the 'green beans' in the Jalfrezi were not to be mistaken for the usual similar looking vegetable variety and were fiery green peppers. My wife sensibly offered her 'green bean' to me and so I had a double treat of extremely hot jalapeño peppers which are definitely not for the faint hearted or unsuspecting victim! Brilliant.Want to go again and it will be my first choice! Recommended.

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
19/08/2017: Always a pleasure going here, always made to feel welcome staff always polite, sevice just brilliant, probly why we have been going here nearly 14 years food just keeps on getting better we would choose going here rather than jamies olivers or The Botanist or any of them new restuarants up in Eldon Square, well done Daniel and staff see you all again soon xx
18/08/2017: Good Greek food in Newcastle - have been a few times and much better than other places like Jamie Oliver's place up the road. Chain restaurants have nothing on places like this that offer a better experience. I live in Greece and when visiting Newcastle and need to have some Greek food, this is the place to go. The frappe is not so good (haha) and even though it was not on the menu, the girl tried to make one for me! I really enjoyed the meze with a little ouzo, when I visited with my husband once. If they ever add beef kokkinisto and briam to the menu I would be very happy (and play a little Greek music too)!! I also take my laptop to work sometimes when I am there and they don't have a problem if I sit with a coffee etc and do some work. I would recommend it, try the meze, drink ligo ouzo and enjoy the atmosphere!

The Running Fox

Shilbottle, Northumberland, <20£
19/08/2017: There are plenty of reviews showing how good it is during the day. The cakes, the afternoon teas etc are spot on. My favourite is the Sourdough bread though. Just lovely. But after 5pm the place changes from a bakery / café etc into something rather different. A real ale den! Instead of using the bakery door, use the next door where the sign says "Fox's Den". Go through this door and if you like your real ales you will be in for a treat. All rather quirky, and very different to the very posh Northumberland Arms on the other side of the river.
18/08/2017: I have been a regular customer at the Felton shop and cafe since it opened. I love the food, atmosphere and, generally, staff.I called in at around two pm. I stood at the counter (at the sign asking customers to wait to be seated). I was completely ignored by a male member of staff who was replenishing cakes, who completely looked through me and then walked away. I was then ignored by a second female member of staff who walked past us several times, spoke to a colleague, looked in the window and then stood helping herself to a drink behind the counter and staring out of the window to avoid looking at waiting customers. My daughter and I started to find our invisibility amusing by this stage. I was then ignored by a third member of staff who stood about a foot in front of me and input things in to the till, studiously avoiding looking at us. By this point we had been standing in the shop, which wasn't busy, for ten minutes. We gave up and left.I have had problems getting service in the shop and cafe before but have always excused this as being due to the place being busy. Today that wasn't the case and it is inexcusable to ignore your customers whilst holding a conversation between yourselves and helping yourself to a drink behind the service counter. Even when staff are busy, it's still possible to make eye contact/ smile/ say you'll be there soon.Another couple also experienced the same treatment and left at the same time, giving up on buying anything to take away.I contacted the Running Fox directly to provide this feedback, as I believe in being constructive rather than complaining in reviews....sadly this was ignored and never acknowledged as well!
