Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, 20-30£
17/01/2020: Very impressed with the quality of the food and service. Sharing platter was excellent - quality food beautifully cooked (even the humble onion bhajis were among the best I've tasted) & the simple basics e.g. peshwari naan & mushroom pilau rice were much tastier & more flavourful than any normal Indian Restaurant! Main courses were also good! Probably a touch on the expensive side (113 for 3 people) but we did have 2 bottles of wine! Easily the best Indian meal I have tasted since I returned to the north-east in 2016 & I lived in Birmingham for 45 years so I know a thing or two about Indian food!! I will definitely be back!
12/01/2020: I must start off by saying that this is a lovely restaurant. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the ambience was very welcoming. The menu is really interesting with some new dishes that I have never tried before and the food was very tasty, fresh, plenitful and full of flavour.

The Horseshoes Inn

Longhoughton, Northumberland
18/01/2020: This is an amazing place to visit, always friendly and so good with everyone. Could not be more helpful. Amazing atmosphere and food. Our favourite place to visit as a family.
14/01/2020: I’ve been to this pub 3 times now. It’s become a target destination when we’re in the North East. The service is consistently friendly and helpful and the food is consistently good. Huge portions of classic pub food.

Cafe Sapore

Hartburn, Stockton-on-Tees
15/12/2019: Cafe Sapore is lovely. We have just been for another Sunday lunch, ,, it was just what we needed. Everything is cooked perfectly, with lots of hot vegetables and tasty gravy Which is definitely cooked by a professional chef.
12/12/2019: Having booked this in advance my friends and I were looking forward to this very much. The menu was full of delicious choices, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.

Simbla Indian Resturant

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne
17/01/2020: We booked a table for 2 at SIMLA having noticed that it was number four on trip advisor, it should be number one! Between the starter and the after-meal Baileys the dishes were timed to perfection. Friendly staff made the evening flow but the spectacular food won our hearts. Will be back in no time! X
17/01/2020: Ate here on Tuesday night, table for 5. This is probably the best Indian restaurant I've been in. Starters were so tasty and well prepared. Mains were amazing and tased so fresh, Service was excellent. All good value for money. Would recommend.

Thai Vibe Cafe

Alnwick, Northumberland
30/12/2019: This was my third visit here and this time there was a reduced, seasonal set menu. There were only a handful of dishes, but very sensibly the list covered seafood, vegetarian, poultry and red meat options - something for everyone. We had Chicken Satay Skewers, Vegetarian Gyoza for starters and Chicken Panang and Beef Tenderloin in Green Peppercorn sauce for mains. All were excellent, with the beef in particular being tender and juicy. Another great experience!
30/12/2019: We popped in on the recommendation from The Cookie Jar, where we were staying. William is passionate about Thai food and very informative about the culture and the dishes. We had the most amazing chicken satay starters and vegetable gyoza which were the perfect texture- just crispy enough. We then had Pad Thai which was excellent and Penang curry which was also lovely but a little on the hot side (ask for it a bit more mild if you aren’t a spice lover). We finished with a chocolate brownie and choice of coffee. It’s a cosy little place with a coal fire and authentic decor.

Amble, Northumberland
18/01/2020: Lovely food, friendly staff. Chef took time to chat to us which was interesting. We will be back on our next visit to Northumberland
13/01/2020: This is the second time we have used Jaspers, once again the food was excellent and the staff very efficient. We will be back.Extensive menu to try.

Danielles' Bistro

Hexham East, Northumberland, 30-45£
09/01/2020: My husband and I my brother and sister in law booked for 6 o’clock on New Years Eve and had a fabulous meal the staff and service were excellent.
28/12/2019: We have been coming to this restaurant for several years now after it was recommended by a friend who lives in Hexham. We love the atmosphere, friendly welcome and constant excellent standard of food, drink and service, especially from the Manager, Ricky, who always accommodates us even at the last minute and when we turn up late! There is a wide choice of food on the menu to suit all tastes. Every dish is perfect and always exceeds expectations. Some of our favourites are the soufflé, pork belly, salmon, fillet steak, lamb shank, brandy snap basket, cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding, to name but a few. It is well worth the drive from Newcastle to enjoy an evening at Danielle's Bistro. We have never been disappointed. I would recommend Danielle's to anybody for any occasion.

Shaheens Indian Bistro

Elvet, County Durham, >100£
16/01/2020: I have no idea why this is rated so high. The surroundings are poor, the service is average, the menu poorer than most, the portions poorer than most and the standard very average. There are a lot better Indian restaurants than this. Very disappointed.
15/01/2020: This must be the best curry house in Durham. From the friendly but efficient service to the excellent quality of the food, youcan’t fault it. If I had to find a negative it would be that it’s slightly more pricey than the run of the mill curry houses. The curries themselves are not floating in curried gravy like a lot of them are and the tastes are authentic and delicious.

Amble West with Warkworth, Northumberland
03/01/2020: We have visited Bertram’s on several occasions. We like that our dog is always welcome. The food is fresh and tasty. However the portion sizes are getting smaller. I ordered the quiche (Brie, bacon and cranberry) served with;as, coleslaw and pickle. £7.95. What arrived was a decent sized slice of quiche accompanied by handful of dressed salad with only 1/4 of tomato in it. On the side was a small pot of pickle -enough as pickle. The coleslaw came is the same sized pot - it must have contained a small desert spoons worth, if that. The quiche had a couple of pieces of bacon in, but the Brie was missing in action. This is very poor value for money. It was not as advertised - quiche and salad but quiche with a small salad garnish. I’ll not be returning any time soon, which is a shame as the food is lovely and we have visited regularly up until this point.
10/12/2019: We always eat at Bertrams when in Warkworth, its a lovely restaurant with friendly staff and a very interesting varied menu with everything from mains to just coffee and cakes. Good breakfast too! We have stayed before wand the rooms are charming. All in all a great place- as is Warkworth

Bistro 23

Lesbury, Northumberland
05/01/2020: After a blustery Sunday morning walk along the beautiful Alnmouth beach, we discovered Bistro 23 in the Main Street of Alnmouth. (‘Alun-mouth’)
30/12/2019: So friendly and helpful, the soup was delicious, pan haggerty a real find and open sandwiches so generous. Wonderful staff. Love the tea cosy too....

The Harbour View

Hartley, Northumberland
11/01/2020: Fantastic food, service and atmosphere, this place never disappoints without doubt th best fish and chips in the area, and Ashleigh our server always makes us feel welcome she is a credit to the restaurant xx
31/12/2019: 4 of us visited the restaurant Friday @ 5pm 27th December.

The White Swan

Bamburgh, Northumberland
12/01/2020: 7 of us staying at the HPB site at Lucker Hall for the first time had pre-booked Sunday Lunch.
10/01/2020: A welcoming sight after the windy walk from nearby Lucker, this pub gave us a warm welcome, despite being quiet. The menu was excellent, and obviously cooked fresh we both had the Gamekeeper Pie, which was very tasty, in fact delicious. There is a range of local fraught beer, and Greene King beers from Suffolk. Portions were large and filling. Suitably fortified for the walk back, we booked to return for Sunday lunch before leaving. Recommended.

Berwick North, Northumberland, 20-30£
13/01/2020: Our first visit was Saturday evening. We found the decor and service to be very nice indeed, although my wife was a little chilly throughout the stay, probably not helped by the exceptionally wide door leading into the restaurant.
08/01/2020: Fine dining at a reasonable cost. We loved the menu and the service was impeccable.

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
06/01/2020: Booked this restaurant for dinner with friends based upon Trip Advisor reviews, and we were not disappointed. Food was excellent, and the atmosphere & service in this cosy restaurant was great. We'll definitely be dining here again.
22/12/2019: We went for the early time for the meal, sufficient time for us to enjoy the food and wine. Parking easy on this occasion.

The Waterfront

Tynemouth, North Tyneside
13/01/2020: Went for Sunday lunch (12th Jan) after a walk along the prom. Wasn't sure if we would get in but we managed to bag the last table. Staff were excellent, nothing was any bother. My wife and i ordered scampi and chips and cod bites and chips with a pot of tea and a pot of coffee. Quick efficient service. Food was freshly cooked and piping hot. £14 for the lot, which i thought was excellent value for what you got. Pleased we went, will def be back..many times. Thanks for a great lunch.
08/01/2020: £12.90 for two fish and chips, plus peas, bread and butter for one and pot of coffee for two. Staff attentive. Thank you.
