Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, 20-30£
24/02/2020: Extremely disappointed. After seeing all the great reviews we were expecting something different, something better from most other Indian restaurants, yes it was different but not in a good way.
23/02/2020: Lovely tasty food, veggie curry was delicious. Popadoms, nan bread, one starter and one rice dish between us with 2 curry dishes. More than enough food.

The Horseshoes Inn

Longhoughton, Northumberland
15/02/2020: Booked a table on line for Valentine’s Day. Made to feel very welcome from the moment we walked in.
28/01/2020: Just been to The Horseshoes for lunch (28-1-20), I had gammon steak and it was delicious, my wife had a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich which she also said was delicious. I must say that both the Landlady and the Landlord both gave us a warm welcome. We will certainly return to the Horseshoes.

Simbla Indian Resturant

Westgate, Newcastle upon Tyne
25/02/2020: We went in on a Tuesday night without reservation, luckily there was a table for two left, other than that the whole place was booked full! The staff were super friendly and accommodating. But let's not forget about the food, it was delicious! The lamb kebab as starters: superb seasoning and tender juicy minced lamb. The Curry's we had as mains were wonderful as well. When in Newcastle looking for a bite: I highly recommend Simla!
24/02/2020: I needed to have a quick tea after work but before a concert. I hadn't been to the Simla for a few years, so thought it about time I went back. I got in just in time because they were fully booked later on. Their fixed price early evening menu was good value and the food very tasty. I told them I needed to be quick and they were very responsive to my request. As I said to the manager, I had been going there off and on since the 80s, so he gave me a complimentary glass of wine, which was very nice!

Thai Vibe Cafe

Alnwick, Northumberland
30/12/2019: We popped in on the recommendation from The Cookie Jar, where we were staying. William is passionate about Thai food and very informative about the culture and the dishes. We had the most amazing chicken satay starters and vegetable gyoza which were the perfect texture- just crispy enough. We then had Pad Thai which was excellent and Penang curry which was also lovely but a little on the hot side (ask for it a bit more mild if you aren’t a spice lover). We finished with a chocolate brownie and choice of coffee. It’s a cosy little place with a coal fire and authentic decor.
30/12/2019: This was my third visit here and this time there was a reduced, seasonal set menu. There were only a handful of dishes, but very sensibly the list covered seafood, vegetarian, poultry and red meat options - something for everyone. We had Chicken Satay Skewers, Vegetarian Gyoza for starters and Chicken Panang and Beef Tenderloin in Green Peppercorn sauce for mains. All were excellent, with the beef in particular being tender and juicy. Another great experience!

Socrates At No 5

Morpeth North, Northumberland
21/02/2020: We have just been for the first time and definitely not the last. Can't believe we haven't been here before. Had the set 3 course meal and very filling and pleasing to the eyes. Lovely service and quite an intimate ambience. Although small you are not crammed in and the music is just audible to block out other diner's conversations.
14/02/2020: What can I say ! I have never taken the opportunity to eat at Socrates however my partner had and was always saying we should give it a try. Well, for Valentines we made a table booking and I will say categorically, tonight's meal is the best restaurant meal I have had for a very long time. The facility is tight but cozy and the staff attentive and caring. The meals we chose.. A Greek starter to share which was good and my Belly pork meal plus Anne's Chicken sizzle.. were amazing. Very rare you go to a restaurant who fills your plate as if it was your mam feeding you so you were full to the gills..Wow !! And the tastes..exquisite !! This has to be Morpeth #1 restaurant !! Barluga is very good but Socrates holds the gold medal for being beyond excellent at what they a confined space!...You only live once..if you haven't already planned a booking please put it on your bucket list of one of the things/places to eat before you go to the big restaurant the sky !!!

Amble, Northumberland
23/02/2020: First visit for us following a top recommendation from Claire@RoxboroHouse. Loved it. Cracking food, very pleasant front of house staff and a chef who is just top notch. Best in Amble? Probably.
21/02/2020: Visited twice in one week. Such different experiences.

Bistro 23

Lesbury, Northumberland
23/02/2020: We have been going to this special little Bistro for at approx 15 years. They consistently provide delicious food. Service is always excellent. The owners are there most nights and you can really feel the passion to deliver an outstanding experience. We keep trying other local restaurants but always want to return to The Bistro - our firm favourite!
22/02/2020: The Tea Cosy Tea Rooms is their daytime offering and it’s top drawer. Just had new bench seating and the decor is lovely right up there with the 5* cakes. Cannot fault it apart from it’s not dog friendly even during the day.

Danielles' Bistro

Hexham East, Northumberland, 30-45£
16/02/2020: Another slightly longer trip to Hexham meant both a dinner experience to cherish with glorious ricotta and asparagus ravioli and haggis stuffed chicken just 2 of many many highlights ; and a lunch on a freezing day to make you forget the weather-try the tilapia and revel in the pork medallions. As on our last visit the service was second to none with the manager showing poise and professionalism way beyond her years. She will go far and so should the reputation of this gem of a restaurant.
13/02/2020: A friend recommended this venue. At short notice I contacted them not sure if we would be lucky to get a table but was pleased to get a table. The bistro on a cold, wet and windy night was warm and welcoming. The quaint decor made us feel at home as did the staff. For a Tuesday night the place was busy.

Shaheens Indian Bistro

Elvet, County Durham, >100£
23/02/2020: We had a fantastic meal here last night. Service was top notch and the food delicious. Staff were very friendly and efficient. Definitely recommend.
22/02/2020: My husband and I visited here on 21 February and we were pleased to be able to get a seat as we hadn’t booked.

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
14/02/2020: Very good seafood - the linguine was noticeable. Also they are Sardinian and serve fregola. The polenta fries looked very tasty. Service was excellent - checking all was fine without doing it every five minutes. Highly recommended
11/02/2020: Though this small restaurant is a little out of the centre of the city it really is worth grabbing a cab for a rewarding experience do book as space is limited. A Scot in the klitchen and real Italian (Sardinian!) staff makes for a great menu and good value. A limited but good wine list and imaginative dishes makes for a great meal. The portions are generous and the pizzas looked good as was the pasta. One to revisit next time I have the good fortune to find myself in Newcastle again.

The Waterfront

Tynemouth, North Tyneside
23/02/2020: Love this place it’s great as a takeaway and as a restaurant. Great staff clean and a great price. Best on the quay.
17/02/2020: Everything was good. Food hot and tasty, staff very friendly. Will definitely be back. Great finish to a day out along North Shields Fish Qua

Milan Restaurant

Wooler, Northumberland
23/02/2020: Had a great meal here whilst in the area on business. Friendly staff & great pasta, who needs anything else 👍
20/02/2020: Have been a few times since our last review, and the Milan never fails to "deliver"!

The Harbour View

Hartley, Northumberland
18/02/2020: On our usual walk from Whitley Bay to Seaton Sluice. Stopped for our usual fish and chips. Always F A B U L O U S. Batter amazing. Staff helpful and pleasant. Nowhere else is anywhere near the excellence here. Thank you.
14/02/2020: Been using this fish and chip restaurant for a few years now. I haven’t came across any other fish shop of equal standard. I always have haddock and chips and it is always best quality. I would just like to thank Waz for his excellent quality of all his fish which he cooks to perfection. Staff is always good and a big thank you to Ashleigh for always looking after us.

The White Swan

Bamburgh, Northumberland
24/02/2020: We had eaten at the White Swan once before and had enjoyed it, so decided to return to sample the Sunday roast. We had our dog and so reserved and sat at a table in the bar area. We weren't disappointed. A really good menu - was hard to decide! I had the roast lamb and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was great and atmosphere good. We'll be back.
23/02/2020: Very warm welcome from the friendly staff. Beautifully decorated in an understated way, cosy, laid back bar area and lovely restaurant. The food was amazing, imaginative and stunningly presented. Will definitely return and highly recommend, you will not be disappointed.

Peace and Loaf Jesmond

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne
22/02/2020: Just found this place by chance on a google search of Newcastle restaurants and it proved to be a fantastic choice.
21/02/2020: OK, so before I rave let me say last nights meal was £105 for two starters, two mains, one large wine, one beer and two coffees, this is special treat territory for us and Peace and Loaf delivers, this all off the A La Carte, they do have a reasonable Prix Fixe menu.
