Di Meo's

Whitley Bay, North Tyneside
11/11/2018: We have visited Di Meos on numerous occasions when we visit the North East from our home in Devon to visit family. We can fully recommend both their ice cream and the coffee they serve.
Andate andate andate

Mascalzone

South Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, <20£
10/11/2018: Mascalzone remains my favourite restaurant in Newcastle. The food is simply stunning, and the service is so friendly and efficient...at Mascalzone we always feel at home. We visited at lunch time today and had a lovely relaxing meal. I had the ravioli, which was amazing! Make sure you visit this wonderful restaurant to enjoy a taste of Sardinia.
09/11/2018: Found Mascalzone on Trip Advisor and thought it impossible to have so many fantastic reviews so decided to try. Now I know why.

The Raby Hunt Restaurant

Heighington and Coniscliffe, Darlington
04/11/2018: I love tasting menus and this was delicious but whilst the staff were so attentive, I personally would appreciate being left alone to enjoy the food and not be asked how each course was. The explanation of each course was greatly welcomed but the feedback requests too OTT for me. Parking a challenge too and we were on the earliest sitting. Check the drink prices-they were quite a surprise.
01/11/2018: The food here is a mazing and myself and my wife have been at least half a dozen times - including pre M stars. It is such a shame that we will not be back - my wife is a veggie.

Danielles' Bistro

Hexham East, Northumberland, 30-45£
04/11/2018: We had dinner here on a Saturday evening - our booking was at 7pm and the restaurant was already packed. The staff were very attentive all evening. We started off with a lovely G&T; whilst we studied the menu. In the end we opted for a delicious fish cake, my brother had the mini-breakfast which we all then wish we’d chosen and husband had the pulled pork pancake which hit the spot. Mains were fillet steak (huge) and a Cajun chicken dish which was rather more creamy than Cajun. Sticky toffee puddings were shared (thank goodness given the size) and we rolled back home very contented. House Malbec extremely good value - we all guessed the final bill at £20/30 more which was a bonus!
31/10/2018: My wife and I ate here for my birthday. Though mid-week it was pleasantly full (though easily booked a couple of days in advance. The décor, experience and service were all pleasantly informal. Food was excellent, and service was friendly though a little slow. We'll definitely be back!

Cookfella's

Guisborough, Redcar and Cleveland
21/10/2018: Staying over in Guisborough, we always planned to have lunch at Cookfellas, which was a fantastic experience- enjoying a combination of tapas & Tex Mex food, with reasonably priced wine. Fortunately as it turned out our hotel kitchen had a problem, so we returned for dinner too. This time we enjoyed Asian & Spanish main course dishes, cooked superbly with excellent, authentic flavours.
21/10/2018: First visit last night following recommendations from locals. It was exceptionally good. Really interesting menu and excellent value for such quality food. Loved it. Service was top notch with happy helpful staff. Can’t wait to return.

Piper's Pitch

Longhoughton, Northumberland
07/11/2018: Stopped off here when out for a walk It was a sunny day so sitting outside at a table was relaxing Had kipper sandwiches which were made freshly by the owner Food was a pleasant experience
31/10/2018: Pipers Pitch never disappoints, for quality of food and the friendliest service. Our yearly pilgrimage to Northumberland is never complete without at least 2, hopefully more visits & is our reward at the end of a super walk from Low Newton, via Dunstanburgh Castle, to Caster. Breakfast rolls, filled with the usual suspects, with an optional Scottish twist, burgers and the world famous Craster kipper n' bun. Try the Auchtermuchty ... you won't regret it!! Andy always has time for a chat whilst fulfilling our order for 6 - all requiring a different combination. He's a star!

The Craster Seafood Restaurant

Longhoughton, Northumberland
05/11/2018: We were fitted in after a cancellation while on holiday in Northumberland. The food was brilliant. Wonderful flavours. The staff were friendly and attentive and so full of enthusiasm for the food they were serving. A great restaurant!
26/10/2018: My favourite restaurant in this part of the world. Charming service led by the delightful cosmopolitan owner Vanessa; a beautiful view over the harbour and out towards the sea and the ruins of Dunstanburgh castle; consistently delicious food with an exotic Brazilian twist.

Bistro 23

Lesbury, Northumberland
09/11/2018: Only open on two evenings a week, we followed the reviews left by other TripAdvisors and we're happy to agree that it's lovely place to dine. Several delicious options to choose from for all three course, so it took us quite a while to make up our minds - but the results were definitely worth waiting for and the wine was lovely too - and not too expensive. FYI parking is a little limited in Almouth, allow enough time!
07/11/2018: Excellent location a short step from our B & B, food lovely and staff knowledgeable and friendly. Good choice of wine in a cosy relaxed atmosphere.

The Village Tearoom Alnmouth

Lesbury, Northumberland
04/11/2018: Visited here whilst waiting for our B&B; room to be ready in the village and it was busy and cosy. The lunch was lovely - I had a toastie and my partner a hot beef stottie that looked great. Was a lovely mix of locals and tourists - all treated like old friends by the ladies running it. Even though we were full we gave in to the gorgeous looking homemade cakes and I’m so glad we did - delicious. Worth a visit for a relaxed lunch.
23/10/2018: Oh my! A wonderful home cooked lunch - corned beef and onion pie with mushy peas and gravy!!!- such a change from the usual offerings served up in cafes these days. Staff were really friendly and our large golden doodle dog welcomed with open arms, they found us a lovely corner with space for Flo to lie down in. Cakes were also delicious and mainly made on the premises. Cost 2 mains, 2 servings of cake, a large pot of tea that was refilled ...£18.95!!!! I haven’t needed to eat very much this evening as a result!!!!!

Glady's Vintage Tea Room

Seaton, Hartlepool
11/11/2018: Visited for Sunday lunch with my in-laws who were celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary. The quality and value of the food was fantastic. but what really appealed to the in-laws was the proper China tea cups and tea strainer. As we finished the meal, I was taking a photo of the couple, and the staff brought out some hats for them to wear, and then chatted to my mother-in-law about the wedding and her dress. I don't think she'd talked about her wedding dress since I married her daughter. A lovely lunch, how things used to be done. We'll be back.
04/11/2018: Best food I have ever tasted in the north east, especially anything from the breakfast menu. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the place itself has a very warm, cosy and fitting atmosphere. I give it 10 out of 10 on every score and promise you will never be disappointed. I don't ever leave reviews on cafes or resteraunts but this place needs to be mentioned and is top notch. Every star that it gets is well deserved x

Shikara

Whitley Bay, North Tyneside
27/10/2018: We have been to Shikara a few times now and it is a wonderful place. Azad and his staff are fantastic. The food is tasty, the prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. A lovely atmosphere in a modern setting - you can't go wrong. I love the finishing touch of a coffee liqueur. Very nice. Book a table and you won't regret it!
26/10/2018: I absolutely love this place, I have been so many times for a sit down meal and a take away and they never disappoint. It is the best Indian food I've had, the restaurant is a lovely place be dine and the staff are very attentive. I have been with family and friends and they all love it.

The Horseshoes Inn

Longhoughton, Northumberland
07/11/2018: We went here on a whim, we hadn’t been there for quite a while, and it did not disappoint: nice pub atmosphere, and a good selection of ales, some of them local.
16/10/2018: Very, very nice food. Ploughman's was colossal, as was the ham salad. The mince and cheesy-suet dumplings a very big hit. Exceptional staff. Small but great menu, very quiet pub. Huge portions.

The Drift Cafe

Lynemouth, Northumberland
02/11/2018: What can I say about this wonderful café... When the queue is almost out of the door the entire time you are in The Drift Café you know it’s a great place to be and well loved! My husband and I first visited The Drift three years ago after my parents recommended it after their holiday to Cresswell. Well, they found a gem! The food is so delicious we could not forget about it and now we return every year, even if we aren’t staying in Cresswell. This Oct/Nov we made sure to do a detour from our journey to and from Berwick upon Tweed to eat lunch here.
01/11/2018: Had read great reviews and knew this place was super popular when walking dog in the area....due to the amount of cars/bikes parked up! Lovely home cooked food, good portions and great service...dog friendly too. We had breakfast on this occasion but definitely will be back to try other lovely offerings from the menu. Highly recommend.
