Strawberry Lounge in Northumberland

Incredible. In fact, better than incredible. Last month I ate at a three Michelin star restaurant in San Francisco and given the choice between the two, I would pick Strawberry Lounge every single time. I’m mentioning this because I’m not just suggesting this restaurant is very good. I’m suggesting it is one-of-a-kind superb. The food is incredibly creative and beautifully presented: scones, quiches, corned beef pies; great tea and coffee and exquisite cakes. Don’t be deceived into thinking these are just hearty portions (which they are) which represent great value for money (which they do); these dishes are works of culinary art. The complementary flavour combinations are truly genius and the product of a genius (or geniuses as I think it’s a husband and wife team) at work.

Excellent scones, very friendly staff. Toasties was the best I have ever had! The cakes looked delicious, but portion sizes were so generous we could not try any. We will certainly be back. A hidden gem!

An amazing find on Trip Advisor. Lovely warm greeting on arrival and bonus of being dog friendly (lady even brought the dogs some boiled ham). We were soon seated and presented with the menu. Two of us settled on the homemade soups (pea and ham an beetroot and goats cheese) one having a cheese, bacon and sausage scone on the side and the other pease pudding sandwiches which were lovely and hot and the soup lovely and thick and both generous portions. Our daughter had the quiche and salad served with new potato (there was also fruit on the salad)! again a very generous portion. To finish off she had a generous slice of rocky road with a slice of snickers on top. The service was first class and we felt at home and very welcome. We loved the old fireplace/range to the side of us. We hope to return again. Thank you Strawberry Lounge. The total bill came to just over £30 with drinks - great value. p.s. The couple next to use shared a portion of banana bread and it was massive!!

Lovely, quaint cafe with a quick turn around. Service was excellent and the food was definitely value for money! We would definitely return!

I would go as far as magnificent , ordered an afternoon tea for 1 would be more than enough for two , My girls got toastie with a marvellous salad and hubby got a rather large very tasty scone all excellent, prices were fab service by lovely friendly people and chef was most amenable. A true hidden Gem- but if a wait to be seated at busy times but you can understand why will return asap gorgeous x

We're delighted that we've finally paid this hidden gem a visit. We ordered broth, carrot and coriander soup and corned beef pie. We chose cheese and leek and cheese and chilli scones to accompany our soup. Every single mouthful was delicious and evidently homemade. The staff were fabulous. They even gave us some ham for our Dog. Thanks everyone for rounding off a beautiful day with a truly lovely experience. We'll be back soon. X

My first time in the Strawberry Lounge and it did not disapoint. The food was lovey, friendly staff and a warming atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Excellent service, lovely friendly welcome, great old world atmospheric building with a warm log burner on the cold day we visited. The spicy cauliflower soup was definitely homemade and very tasty, excellent cheese and bacon home made scone to accompany. Clean and tidy can’t fault it really. Will definitely return on another visit to Alnwick and try one of the really good looking pies on the lunch menu.

Popped in for lunch with my mum. Id been looking forward to a hot chocolate all week. It arrived looking delicious and was extremely tasty I didn't need to order anything with it as it was a meal in itself.

I think I can rate this as quite a find as we stumbled on this place almost by accident. Need a coffee, look around, small doorway with a carved bear outside, give it a go! Huge portions of cake, lovely people serving, more than fair prices. As the man said "I'll be back".

We had the scone and soup special. It was delicious and such a generous serving that we could easily have shared one. Scones were beautiful as was the soup and bread, would highly recommend.

If you have no dietary requirements I think this place is fab. Friendly staff, gorgeous atmosphere and the cakes looked amazing. They did have vegan options (jacket potato, couple of toasties etc), which I always appreciate, they just weren't the best.

We had a lovely cream tea here. The lounge is easy to miss being down a little entry, but it is well worth popping down and looking at the wide selection of scones (among many other goodies!)

What an amazing place. The scones are stunning and absolutely HUGE (and so cheap). My 14 year old boy said going to the Strawberry Lounge was the best day of his life and I’m inclined to agree.

We always try to call here on our visits to Alnwick. We were not disappointed! Due to covid restrictions there were 4 tables available. We ordered the pate and salad- which was HUGE!! Two flavoured scones- cherry & a strawberry and chocolate- yummiest when warm lathered in butter!! The kids had a cheese sandwich and cheese toastie which came with a plate full of fruits - which I think was a great idea. Typically we took some food away with us which they provided us with packaging for. We’ll be back again next time.

My daughter treat me to a surprise lunch at the Strawberry Lounge for my birthday. It has been a place I have wanted to visit for ages.We ordered corned beef pie which came with new potatoes, salad and coleslaw, cheese pie with the same and a cheese toasty. All food was piping hot and with generous portions. On leaving we decided to take some cakes home as we were stuffed. Caramel cake, cranberry and marzipan tart, strawberry, white chocolate meringue cake and a pear and ginger scone. The sizes were huge! We paid for the food and they had not charged us for one of the cakes and they said we could have it for free, which was very generous and they wished me a happy birthday.My only disappointment was the scone was plain and not pear and ginger,however the other cakes more than made up for it.I will definitely return to sample some more scones.

I spied the alleyway leading to Strawberry Lounge whilst seeking a spot of lunch (out of the rain) before our visit to the castle. The staff were lovely and accommodated us quickly despite the restrictions. Fantastic choice of proper homemade food on the menu including THE biggest choice of scones (both savoury and sweet) I’ve ever seen. The Childrens food had the additional bonus of a plate of chopped fresh fruit instead of salad/coleslaw. I thoroughly enjoyed soup & a scone... so much so, we had take out of 2 more scones. Best lunch away from the coastline in Northumberland!

Been to the strawberry lounge today with our Grandson. The Food is Amazing large portions. Cakes are to Die For Also a selection of Scones and All Different Drinks. The Staff Are lovely very Helpful. You Need to go if you haven't already been.
