The Salt House in North Tyneside

The food was delicious and plentiful. The waiting staff could not have been more attentive, polite or helpful. We had a lovely evening. The only "but" is the gaudy bright pink lighting that dominates the eating area. It is so over powering and casts a fluorescent glare across the entire room. It is like staring into pink car headlights. We will come back for the first class food and service, but will try to sit at the back, with the dogs, in the darker area.

Went with friends for tapas and cocktails. Great atmosphere, lovely staff - so friendly, amazing food (especially the mussels and chorizo but all good), and the best cocktails - I had the Espresso Martini - so good. Will definately be heading back soon.

Delicious Sunday lunch served with all the trimmings. The roast potatoes in particular were incredible and we both loved the red cabbage. The portion size was very generous and as we ordered the cauliflower cheese and extra pigs in blankets we left very full indeed. Great service as well made this a fantastic meal.

Opted for the lunch time 3 course special for myself and my wife. It was absolutely fantastic. The food was really wholesome and flavoursome. The staff are all a delight. 😄

We went here with family during a very busy restaurant week, I had the baked goats cheese, it was creamy and flavourful, came with a beautiful bread. Others at the table had the gambis pil pil, it packed a punch with chilli and garlic, then we had the iberico ham and manchengo cheese croutons, melted in your mouth. The table all decided on the steak, melted like butter, probably one of the best steaks we've had. We were left with a sweet taste from the sticky toffee pudding and the brownie. Cocktails were incredible and the front of house team have our upmost respect, Amelia, Lauryn and Rosie couldn't be better hosts. Friendly, making great recommendations and attentive without being invasive. Absolutely 💯 perfect.

We had a great night with friends trying out the Restaurant Week menu last week, the venue is nice, had a great atmosphere and we loved all of the quirky artwork. We all had the garlic king prawn starter that was delicious, and then the peppercorn steak and the cod, both dishes were lovely, tasted great and were well presented, we can't wait to go back. The staff were very friendly and helpful when I needed to change the number of diners at the last minute. I would highly recommend trying the SaltHouse!

By far the best around for authentic tapas dishes! These guys nail it every time. The pork was unbelievable. We also had the croquettes our favourite dish along with gambas pil pil . The bread dressed in garlic, parsley and olive oil was so tasty.

For years SaltHouse in Cullercoats has been synonymous with Tapas and chilled Ibiza vibes. Sundays offer the latter but coupled with, in our experience a Sunday lunch in particular the Bistro Rump of beef that can rival any I’ve had in recent memory. The starters you’ll probably not find paired with a traditional Sunday lunch but absolutely that does not detract from their quality. The sweet and Crispy Panko Coated Calmari and Croquettes were generous in both portion and flavour. Ok.. The four of us had The Bistro Rump of Beef. By all means opt for the Chicken Supreme, Slow Cooked Pork Belly or the Vegan option. But I’m sure there’s something in the Bible that says “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours beef!” It was superb. It is served pink so if you like your beef like a Bedouins Sandal you’ll be disappointed. The accompanying veg and sides were similarly accomplished. Starters will cost you between £5.50 and £9.00 and the mains £14.95 to £16.95. Which is pretty standard for North East Sunday Dining. I’d always say you can accept “ok” food if service is impeccable. The staff were attentive and friendly so it’s a win all round for The SaltHouse. I highly recommend you pay a visit!

Been to the salt house today for Sunday lunch, we have been here half a dozen times and it’s always been great and I’ve always recommended it , huge difference today, the service was fine apart from they were really busy, and the food would have been good enough but the portions were ridiculous, it is £15.95 and the meat wasn’t to bad, but it was just a bit meat a Yorkshire pudding and virtually nothing else on the plate, they were tiny . There were two tiny potatoes and a spoonful of cabbage, We also ordered a side of cauliflower cheese but we had finished the dinner before it arrived ( probably because it was so small ) so we sent it back Very disappointing as we used to love this place

We’re visiting our son and his wife and were delighted when they booked a table at the Salt House. We all had another excellent meal, the Tempura Fried Aubergine and Gambas Pil Pil, both delicious and my favourite, Arroz de Metanza with perfectly cooked pork belly. Great service from Mark and his team as usual. Definitely looking forward to dining there again soon.

Visited today in an unplanned visit as we were desperate to have a good traditional Sunday lunch . Whilst at £15 the cost is on the top end scale, the food did not disappoint. Gorgeous cooked beef , accompanied with the perfect crispy roast potatoes and a good sized homemade Yorkshire pudding. The only disappointment was the service... While not terrible in any way it was sadly non existent! After the initial first drink and food ordered and arrived we saw nothing more of anyone and had to make a real effort to find someone for the bill. In a time where service is paramount in not only ensuring the customers are happy and become recurring guests . The need to obviously try and gain extra sales with more drinks and desserts wasn't obviously required. The restaurant wasn't busy and staff found time to chat to themselves in the detriment of its customers. Would i return... maybe, the food is that good but the service needs reviewing to really wow customers to be repeat customers

We were pleasantly surprised with the Sunday 'roast' lunch. It could have been a bit hotter when it arrived, but that was the only negative. There is also a separate dog-friendly section in the restaurant that works well. The starters and desserts on Sunday seem to be from the tapas menu offered on other days and were not the best 'fit' with a roast lunch in our opinion. Not a sticky toffee pudding in sight.

Fabulous staff...always well looked after. Had the pork Sunday lunch which was nice ..but didnt blow me away.... like the reviews suggest. I do love this place...great tapas on previous visits...but was a bit dissapointed on my Sunday visit ...a bit sad to see i was billed for an extra jug of gravy....when the lunch is just under £16... paying extra is step too far... never ever been charged for extra gravy!

Another one, the staff here really make an effort and do anything they can to make your night. The girls on front of house really need to be applauded for their amazing work. Love the drinks,the food and the atmosphere. There is a reason it's a weekly visit.

Visited the Salthouse last night to watch the choir perform. The atmosphere was so lovely and the choir were amazing. I absolutely loved my tapas dishes that I had and did my friends. The staff were very attentive and the service was fast which I was very impressed by with how busy the place was! Credit to all the staff both kitchen and serving staff. Will definitely be returning. Visited here Friday night for the first time. Had heard many good things about the salthouse and I have to say both the food and the service were both amazing. We came for a roast dinner and it did not disappoint. Ordered bread and olives along with the manchego bites for starters and the chicken and beef for our mains. All of the food was very tasty and the serving staff were conscientious and present. Will definitely come again. Always a great ambience every time we visit.

Second visit to Salthouse to ensure our first experience wasn’t a fluke! Service was a bit slow so we ordered a jug of their incredible sangria until our perfectly cooked, high quality, fresh food arrived (more than justifying the wait). We were impressed by the fabulous Taste of Spain charcuterie and cheese board, in addition to the delicious tombet, whitebait and spicy chicken wings. All absolutely delicious and some of the nicest tapas we’ve ever had in the UK! We will definitely return.

Visited for Sunday lunch after trying the tapas a few weeks ago. The service was slow last time, and it was the same again - around an hour to receive our food. Plenty of meat n the plate, but only a bit of cabbage and a few peas in terms of veg. It could have definitely done with more of a variety. Overall very average, with a very long wait.
