I finally visited 31 the Quay, and it was such a treat! We went on Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised by their November special menu—four courses for just £30! Every dish was fantastic, and I highly recommend the Pithivier for main course! One of our guests has a dairy intolerance, and the kitchen was very helpful in advising which dishes could be modified. The staff were lovely —friendly without being intrusive, and they checked in at just the right times to see if we needed more drinks. The atmosphere was cosy, with bright, clean decor, and it wasn't noisy at all, making it easy to enjoy the conversations within the party. I would highly recommend especially if you are celebrating a special occasion.

As part of a birthday celebration as a family, we visited 31 at the Quay for a meal. On arrival the staff showed us to our table. The waitress was very attentive, polite, and friendly. The atmosphere was really welcoming, and the place was well laid out. We ordered drinks which were brought to the table quickly. Our grandchildren were with us, and the children's menu had a good selection of food for them. Personally, I found it hard to choose as there was so much choice and it was all lovely. I can only talk for myself when I say the mushroom soup tasted like I was eating fresh mushrooms, and the whole party said their starters were amazing. I chose the lamb as my main dish, and that was also very tasty. The vegetables were well cooked and very tasty. I was very full and unable to try any of the desserts on offer. At the end of the meal, the waitress presented a "happy birthday" dessert for the birthday boy. This was a nice touch. Throughout the evening, it was nice to watch the chefs preparing the food for service in front of us. The 3 chefs were busy throughout the evening as we're the waiting staff, but they made it look effortless. Well worth a visit.

Unfortunately I’m not blessed with a large culinary vocabulary, but I will try my best. Firstly I’d like to give a big thank you to the two lovely, polite and friendly waiting staff on the evening of my birthday. You really pulled out all the stops to make it a very special day. You were both so attentive and made sure all our needs were met It’s become a monthly tradition for myself and my partner to visit 31 The Quay since their menu changes on a monthly basis. As usual the food on the evening was exquisite - as you can see from the photos (I know you’ll be tempted to lick the screen) What we find really impressive about 31 The Quay is their love and passion for desserts. You’ll often go somewhere for a nice meal and have to end it with a dried up slice of sticky toffee pudding or a chocolate brownie with a blob of sad ice cream. 31 The Quay are always coming up with inventive new desserts that change with the season. At the start of the autumn we had a creamy rice pudding with blueberry jam and fudge. It changed my life! I can’t recommend 31 The Quay more highly. Not just for the superb food but also for the outstanding service. The views out to the river aren’t too bad either! I’m so pleased I only have to wait until tomorrow for my next visit!

Absolutely amazing dining experience we had here. The food was perfect and so well priced for what we got and the flavours were brilliant. The standout thing for me was the attention they detail they gave to me as someone with a nut allergy. A specifically printed menu with my name on and all the options I could chose, and every staff member being aware of it. Even to the level of bringing both mine and my girlfriends meal over and letting me know that her meal is nut free too so I could try it. Sounds small but all the attention to detail on it was brilliant and such a positive memorable experience, given the fact that I’ve been refused service at other restaurants for having an allergy.

I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. The dining room and setting are great, and the food is super delicious. I had burrata as a starter, and halibut for my main. My husband had mackerel, followed by Guinea fowl. It was all exceptional, with great attention to detail in the sauces and accompaniments. And … it really isn’t that expensive for that quality of food. There is a good, reasonably priced wine list. The service is impeccable and very efficient. I urge you to go - you won’t regret it ❤️

We just wanted to say a massive thank you for all the work and love Lewis and his team devoted to our wedding at 31 at the Quay on 4 May 2024! Lewis produces the most mouth watering menus in the North East. The food is consistently fantastic and a meal at the Quay never disappoints. This is why we booked the Quay for our wedding earlier this year for 70 guests. The food was as delicious as ever but the effort which went into setting the restaurant up (laying out favours, table plans, etc) was above and beyond. We mentioned to Lewis the day before the wedding that one guest was GF and did they have ciders and he offered to buy GF beer that evening for our friend. Even when we collected wedding items the next day, the team were so helpful and offered to help carry things to the car. We had a lovely day and everyone raved about the food and service. Orchestrating a three course meal for 70 people is not ease but Lewis and his team made it look effortless. We had our evening 'do' at The Grand Hotel in Tynemouth and the difference in attitude and assistance between the team at 31 The Quay and those at The Grand were worlds apart. All in all a special experience for a special day!

I came with my daughter for my birthday lunch. We had the 3courses. I like the fact that the menu changes monthly and has plenty of locally sourced items. The seasonal menu was an ideal size , small but we were still spoilt for choice. The food was beautifully presented and the taste matched it. The decor is modern bright and welcoming. The staff were efficient and very friendly. The wine list was good, we had a Romanian wine which was very nice, reasonably priced and something I wouldn't have normally picked. The cocktails also very nice and similar prices to local bars. We will be back in the summer

A friend and I decided to try 31 The Quay out of curiosity having vaguely heard about it. It was Friday night and the airy, light restaurant on the waterfront was fairly empty, yet there was still a warm buzz about the place, with a relaxed, seaside vibe that reminded me of holidays in St Ives. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, the service was attentive if just a touch slow. And who knew there was fine dining to be had in North Shields, just a few minutes walk south of the Fish Quay? The menu changes every month to showcase seasonal produce, and with a choice of only six dishes per course each one is a perfect combination of surprising flavours and textures; my starter of crispy duck leg with chilli ketchup and celeriac had stiff competition from my friend’s starter of North Sea cod with curry sauce and king prawn scampi. We both went for the North Yorkshire Lamb main, with confit potato, asparagus and a rich Madeira sauce to die for. We had to sample dessert of course, but with room for only one between us we compromised on choice and picked perhaps not the best one on the menu. The blood orange parfait was refreshing and tasty but was frozen solid and sitting in too much hot caramel sauce with only two tiny doughnuts to mop it all up. That said, each element was delicious, but next time I’ll go for something else. There will be a next time, as now I know it’s the perfect local place to bring friends and family for something a bit special, I’ve booked for next month.

Came yesterday as part of family celebration, the meat eaters were well fed, full plates and full of delicious looking veg, My meal was an abject disappointment, what amounted to a bowl of soup, and an onion Tarte tatan, with a sprig of broccoli and two pieces of kale, FGS! costing £30!! I sat having veg envy looking at their plates, was there any for me....nope, even the cauliflower cheese was part of their meal, Left very disappointed and still hungry, although the soup and tart were very tasty, it was very poor meal, for goodness sake give the vegetarians some veg!!

A great restaurant on the banks of the Tyne. Now this is great dining, just like it used to be. Spacious and warm with comfort in mind. If like me, eating out is rare and memorable, this would be an ideal venue fit for any special occasion. The food was in no way disappointing and although the pictures may make the portions seem like half, we were all full and pleasantly surprised by the taste of each course. Put it this way, we were all too full for dessert. It's North Eastern food with superb views of a superb location. Each time prior to the event and not knowing the restaurant's clients, I thought it might be wild west territory. I was too naive to have doubted it. It is absolutely deserving of repeat visits. It's what hopefully will happen to other restaurants in the region. They may look to 31Quay, and take a few leafs out of 31Quay's book.

My visit to 31 The Quay was a complete shambles of culinary incompetence and uncaring service. My wife and I were looking forward to enjoying the Sunday lunch, after seeing photos of the food online and reading the hyped reviews, but what we got instead was a complete catastrophe. The menu was well thought out and it all looked very appealing. When the food arrived, it was not. The only redeeming feature of our meal was the Nduja flatbread with pecorino and tarragon, which was admittedly tasty but so minuscule that it was gone in a flash. My starter of Hand-rolled pasta with chicken, St George mushrooms and truffle was a complete joke. The chicken and mushroom were diced so tiny that it was like eating baby food, and the mushrooms used could have been any old variety plucked off the supermarket shelf. The dish was swimming in a sea of greasy oil and a volume of lemon juice that was overwhelming and had no business being there. My wife's whipped goat's curd with summer vegetables, truffle honey, and walnut dressing was equally woeful. The dish was insipid, and ice-cold in parts, there was not a hint of truffle or honey to be found. To make matters worse, the staff seemed utterly indifferent to our displeasure. The main courses were lukewarm, and my belly pork was stone-cold in the center. The crackling was a pitiful excuse for a crispy skin and was barely edible. When I summoned the waiter to complain, he mumbled something about the chef and then vanished into thin air. I was left alone, staring at a plate of cold meat and vegetables, seething with frustration. Finally, he deigned to bring me another piece of pork, but it was drenched in scorching hot gravy, which made for an unpleasant surprise. It arrived on its own little plate, ready to meet my now even colder vegetables. I moved the cold piece of pork off my plate and onto the empty dish that my cauliflower cheese had come in. When I cut into it, I discovered that it was cold again! The staff showed no signs of caring about our dissatisfaction and took our complaints as an excuse to avoid our table altogether. We eventually gave up on the meal and left, and the staff barely acknowledged our departure. Nobody questioned why we hadn't finished our food or showed any interest in our feedback. They were more interested in trying to upsell us on dessert. The bill, despite a few token attempts at placation, was still exorbitant for the dismal quality of the food and the appalling service we received. We left and the staff didn’t acknowledge our departure. In conclusion, I would strongly advise any fellow diners to steer clear of 31 The Quay. The food was revolting, the staff were indifferent, and the entire experience was a complete and utter disaster.

We booked a table for 7 via the app, after checking the menu for choice (2 vegetarians) and for price. Sunday lunch was listed as £18 with starters and desserts around £7. When we arrived the only option was a slightly different menu without individual pricing. 2 courses for £30 or 3 for £35. Slightly more expensive than listed on the app which I thought was a little bit underhand. The beef Sunday lunches were fairly large but the beef extremely rare and chewy across all 4. The Rhubarb crumble soufflé (X3) had no rhubarb whatsoever and a thimble of custard. A small glass of sprite is £3.70 which is daylight robbery. Our orders had to be taken multiple for times with staff returning to ask again, for unknown reasons. When it came to the bill this took a while as it could not be split to pay on cards unless exact amounts were first written down, put through the till and individual payments made. Not a huge issue but a bit outdated. Overall from our experience we all left feeling that it was very expensive for the quality of food/venue and won't be returning.

There was a wedding party in at the same time that my family had booked for. The kitchen clearly couldn't cope with preparing such a volume of food all at once and we had a very long wait for the starter and a pretty long one for the mains. As a family we don't manage to eat together very much these days. A trip to the North East provided an excuse for a family dinner. Following a quick look at a number of possibilities, chance provided 31 Quayside in North Shields as the venue... Lucky us. North Shields has changed a bit since I lived in Newcastle in the sixties but this restaurant is a stunner. Easy to book, friendly reception, great location, lovely views and ferry and ship activity on the Tyne to remind us of where we were. Capping it all a great menu; in our set menu choices we had Focaccia, Cod Fritters, Ravioli, Courgettes, Brill, Pork, Bream and Pithivier. The desserts were Fondant, Raspberries and Souffle. Great location , very convenient if you live upstairs , literally a elevator ride to the bottom , small menu so everything is fresh and they taste good , cooked really well . Prices are very cheap for such good quality food and a very generous portion (£24 2 courses). Staff were well trained and very polite . Great place

We had a beautiful meal at 31 The Quay. Food was delicious from start to finish, truly was fantastic. Our party raved about the lamb and the ribeye, and the rice pudding souffle wasunreal. Staff couldn't have gone out of their way more - both in advance of our visit and for the duration - to ensure one member of our party's nut allergy was catered for. Very much appreciated and made our visit all the smoother. The serving staff were jus great, and the excellent service just made our night, especially from the lovely Georgia. A brilliant visit all round, we'd highly recommend!

Fantastic Location Fantastic Food Reasonable prices but without doubt the best quality of the restaurant is its staff and their helpful friendly and efficient service - best service we have received in a long time. We definitely intend to return.

My husband & I had a lovely evening! It’s a fantastic venue, beautiful views over the river Tyne, delicious food and the staff were extremely attentive - especially Georgia (wine expert) & Melissa, our friendly waitress! The usual wonderful view of the Tyne. The food keeps getting better, loved the treacle tart with blood orange. The menu seems smaller but everything on it according to my friends was fantastic. The service is attentive and very pleasant. Love this place.

Found this little gem of a place completely by accident. Had a wonderful meal last night and the service was excellent. We ate from the set menu which was delicious but the options on the normal menu was great too. Set menu very reasonably priced given the quality of the food, ingredients and service. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

My wife has just spoken to Diane to explain she has to cancel her booking due to a very personal issue involving her friend and she was wonderfully understanding. She came off the phone in tears as Diane was so understanding and it’s nice to see she had the personal touch and not just had a cancellation. Diane can I say than you so much for your understanding and caring manner. Wonderful customer service from such a kind and caring person.

I have visited Darcies a number of times now with my Nanna who might I add swears by this place. They always treat her and her friend like royalty and always go the extra mile to make sure they are both happy! All of the food there is home cooked to perfection and tastes amazing. I’ve had the Yorkshire pudding wrap multiple times and it never disappoints potions are huge and good value for money. Lisa and the rest of the staff are lovely! There’s no doubt that she knows exactly what she is doing. I will happily be returning to Darcies and can’t wait to try the chicken nuggets my nanna raves about!
