Had a night out with my brother who moved to the area and we happened across the Poet. It has the feel of a real local with live sport, a very decent menu, and really helpful staff. Easygoing and relaxed atmosphere with a "there are no strangers, only friends you haven't met yet" vibe to it. I'm looking forward to my next visit (to the pub, not my brother).
Came here for my wife's birthday meal with my son. Service and food were absolutely fantastic. Son and wife extremely happy with their food. Not had curry this good since Birmingham. Well recommended.
Lovely lunch with a nice table and smiling staff. Food came quickly. We both had the rare roast beef Sunday lunch and a lemon posset which was perfect.
The Giant is our go to pub - they do everything very well. You always get a warm welcome, service is friendly, beer is local and well kept and the food is excellent - pub grub + and its good value for money too. Highly recommended.
We chose the White Lion for an Easter meal out, on a Saturday evening. We were warmly welcomed by the landlady and given time to choose from the a la carte menu and specials, before deciding on complementary drinks. The food was prepared fresh, and served promptly. The landlady, Kerry, made a point if checking with us that the food was satisfactory. It certainly was. £49 for 2 x two course meals and three alcoholic drinks. Good value for money, in a welcoming village pub.
An absolute must 🙌,,if you want fantastic roast dinner with high quality meat, roast potatoes and a hearty selection of fresh vegetables...topped of with delicious gravy. The staff and service was just spot on.. we will be back
Now we are not greedy eaters but It is rather pointless choosing from the eat as much as you like for £26 menu, as regardless of what you order they reduce the order.
We ordered starters for 6 people and had enough for 4 people with some dishes that were ordered not supplied.
The same thing then happened with the main course, they reduced the number of dishes so one person never had the meal they ordered.
This happened on our previous visit which was upsetting but we thought we would give it another go.
Very poor experience, Quality of the Food was only average at best.
The restaurant was busy so I guess they do not need return business but I for one shall not be returning to this restaurant.
Great coffee & a lovely warm welcome from staff as usual.
So sorry to hear that you're closing for good on the 24/4/2025.
It is such a shame, that like many others in this country, at present, you will have to seek another job.
Wishing you all the very best!xx
On April 26th, 2025 we had our wedding reception at the Pilot Boat Inn. We had 81 adults and 9 children. It was an amazing day and the team led by Johnny, Charlie and Monique went out of their way to ensure everything ran smoothly. Our guests had very generous canapes, four choices of pre selected mains followed by three desserts. A very well received menu which we planned with the team. The staff arranged and dressed all of the tables and even provided a dance floor. The atmosphere created by the Pilot Boat was relaxed and very happy. Thank you so much. A great venue for a wedding or large party group. We would highly recommend .
Been to Lucianos (Luccios? Carluccios??) a couple of times in the last year and it's a decent place for Italian.
The food has been great, with a decent pizza, fantastic beef ragu, and the best carbonara I've graced my tastebuds with the second time. I cannot stress enough, the food is FANTASTIC. Portions could do with a little more, but what I've got thus far has tasted lovely.
Both times I've come in the place has been eerily quiet, so either something's up with my timing or the place is just... quiet? Regardless, the service has been timely, albeit mild-mannered, both times which isn't an issue at all. There is a 12.5% service charge stuck on as a heads-up, which you'll find in tiny text at the bottom of the menu. Not a fan of that trend as a whole, as I'd much rather tip good service and good food where it's due.
My only complaints are the pricing (which is *STEEP*, especially for Dorset at £50+ for dinner for two) and the fact they took beef ragu off the menu - it was a fantastic dish and taking it off the menu is a crime against humanity. Bring it back!
Either way, Luciano's food is fantastic, on the proviso that you aren't the person paying for it... But I don't know if that says more about myself or the restaurant. If the staff were a bit chattier and the British economy wasn't doing an impression of the Titanic (or things were a bit cheaper), I'd give five stars.
Really nice outdoor area for lunch. Very pleasant & professional staff. Lots to choose from on the menu. We opted for individual dishes from the set lunch menu.
My roasted cauliflower soup was absolutely gorgeous & was served with warm bread rolls (approx £8.50).
I would definitely recommend this inn as a good place for lunch.
