We visited The White Lion in June as a couple. This visit was with our teenage grandsons and we were not disappointed. We had three different burgers and a pizza which was personalised for a picky eater. We all agreed the burgers were the best we had ever eaten and the pizza was polished off very quickly. Again the service and ambience was perfect and we were made feel like locals. This is the first time I have given somewhere a second review but it certainly deserves it. Do give it a try you won’t be disappointed. We will definitely return when we are back in the area.

A lovely pub that does great food and is dog friendly too. We arrived without a booking on Friday 9th August and even though the pub was busy we were welcomed and a table was found for us to eat. Friday night is ribs night which I had. My partner had pizza. Really great food and service. The ribs were exceptional and the pizza went down a treat. Highly recommended.

Fabulous food, excellent service. It was the first time any of us had (heard of) or tried Bobotie and aa 3 loved it. My burger was outstanding - hand made (8oz) with lots of stilton, salad, bacon and I was defeated by the chips. The pub has a great atmosphere with Kerry the landlady and her team of volunteers, the locals were friendly and matched their pictures on the wall! Palmers ciders were good as always. We will definitely return.

What a wonderful pub. From the moment we walked though the door last year on holiday we were made to feel most welcome. The landlord, Spike, is just great. Friendly, inviting and wonderful with our kids and dog. We’re we’re made to feel like we fitted in right away. The locals are friendly, chatty and again, welcoming. We have just returned from being on holiday in Broadwindsor and when we arrived again a year later he remembered us. We went back 3 times in that week, ate, drank and had a great time. The food is honest pub grub, lots of homemade dish’s, and the beer is wonderfully kept. They were all so lovely, even to the point were the knew my little girl would need an extra seat cushion so when we arrived they had already left it out for her.Honestly, I can’t recommend this place enough. If you passing, or even if you are not, make a special trip. You won’t be disappointed.

We've visited the White Lion several times including this Wednesday and it's just as consistently good at any time. The food is high quality at very reasonable prices and the small pub has a warm welcome and very friendly atmosphere. The menu is traditional british with nearly everything homemeade. Pub curries are not always that great but here they are terrific, ( mine came with a poppadum, mango chutney and lime pickle ). My wife adores the homemeade pies and the puds are fantastic. We've also enjoyed Sunday lunch which is excellent and not expensive at all.Cannot recommend this pub any higher than fantastic and we wish it was nearer to our home in Worcestershire.

It was a few years ago when we last dined here, but on hearing good reports of the food we decided to find out for ourselves. First thing to note was that there was a different landlord - this time a very genial host - who showed a real interest in our being there. Secondly, there was a good lunch-time menu which listed a wide range of home-cooked food. Our meals were of good proportion and very tasty, accompanied by a pint of Palmer's 'Tally Ho'!

This is a lovely 17th-century Palmers Brewery pub. It's in a picturesque village near Beaminster. My friends and I had lunch there - most of us opting for the all-day breakfasts - eggs, bacon, mushrooms, hash browns, black pudding, baked beans and fried bread. Sounds good, doesn't it? And it was, as were the range of beers and ciders. We also had a very warm welcome from mine host. I recommend this pub wholeheartedly.

We have eaten several times at the White lion during the first half of 2018 & tonight was our first visit of 2019. We were not disappointed! The welcome was warm & friendly & the food excellent! My husband ordered the steak n kidney suet pudding & chocolate nut sundae from the main menu whilst I ordered the homemade steak pie with potatoes & vegetables & warm chocolate fudge cake with ice cream from the specials board. I must admit that my husband has ordered the suet pudding on more than one occasion & it has been devoured with gusto every time. I myself have tried numerous things from the menu & have also never been disappointed. However I must say that tonight’s steak pie was exceptionally good - the pastry was cooked to perfection & there was more steak pieces in that one slice then what you would get in a whole shop bought family sized pie. The veg were also cooked perfectly- very large sliced carrots, broccoli, cauliflower & boiled skin on potatoes. I don’t usually do desserts but the fudge cake was scrumptious - very chocolaty without being too rich & the vanilla ice cream complemented it beautifully. The only one negative is that they no longer do the lamb suet pudding which was superb but hopefully one day it will reappear on the specials board

Front of house service from Gillian was friendly and informative. She said there was a choice of 3 meats for Sunday roasts and we can have one, two or some of all 3 meats, with vegs and all the trimmings. Roasts come in 3 sizes, (kids, medium and large). In addition, as the sun was scorching, they also gave the option of roast meat with salad and baguette. The food arrived quickly, meat, spuds, parsnip and all trimmings plated up with the vegetables served separately. We found the medium portion was ample and given the size of the meals, prices were very good (medium £6.95 and large £8.95). Place is a Palmers pub and popular with the locals. Only downside is, the pub doesn't have a car park - there is limited parking roadside and at the square, or you could use the local school at weekends

On Monday the 1st of May I attended the White Lion Inn for an afternoon of music and fantastic food. I dont visit the village very often, usually once every year for a weekend. But when I do come down I always pop in to see what is going on in the pub. This year, Hidden - a local band - carried the afternoon out with a variety of covers and their own songs. Brilliant! I was welcomed by both the Landlord and Landlady, Kate and Richard Moulsdale, and it must be said they never fail to create a fantastic atmosphere. For my lunch I ordered one of Kate's Steak and Ale pies, and was really wowed by the portion sizes, as well as it being served with chips and fresh veg. This is a local pub and as such, is very good, with a nice landlord, staff and beer but it could be way better, especially the food! I can eat this anywhere, cheaper and at a better quality. Don’t get me wrong, the food is okay and quite edible, it just totally lacks imagination. I would respectfully suggest the Landlord and his team may like to visit Burton Bradstock’s Anchor Inn and the Three Horseshoes, applying a few of their good points and techniques, which would turn this pub, in my opinion, into something really special, by moving it from the 1980s into 2017. The other request I would make is to please turn up the heat a little as there is nothing worse than a cold restaurant/pub.

Used the pub as a local for our week in Dorset. Only a short walk from the cottage we rented. Landlord/Landlady and all staff very friendly along with all the locals. Would highly recommend. Due to having other family with us we were unable to sample the food, which was highly recommended by everyone we spoke to. Hope my wife and I can return soon to enjoy the ambience and some of their highly thought of food.

Enjoyed 2 delicious meals while visiting Dorset. The pork fillet with duchesse potatoes was lovely and the way they served their carrots, which were shredded with added caraway seeds and garlic, was so tasty. Definitely worth a visit.

Spent a week on a family holiday in Broadwindsor and ate at the White Lion three times. Food was very good quality pub food on all 3 visits. Highlights for us were the whitebait and lasagne. The landlord and landlady were very welcoming and all bar/waiting staff were very attentive and friendly. Also a mention for the local regulars who were also very friendly and chatted to us on each visit.Really enjoyed the well kept, local real ales as well.Thoroughly recommend

On holiday down in the area and reviews indicated this would be a worth while stop for a pub meal. It was. We booked earlier in the week because we'd been warned it was popular on theme nights. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome & finding a high chair at the last minute wasn't a problem. There were a pile of games available for the kids to play with while we waited for the food. Seemed to be a good selection of ales available and a fair number of locals propped up the one end of the bar so a popular post-work stop for locals. Helpfully the kids were able to order from the standard kids menu despite it being steak night, the kid's portions were generous. The steaks for the adults were accompanied with a nice selection of sides. The steak was cooked well although they were a bit gristly. Not the best cuts of meat but for the price we weren't going to get too fussy. The free half bottle of wine per couple was a nice touch. Happy to recommend this as a worthwhile stop.

Visited here with a friend and was instantly made to feel welcome by both Richard the landlord, and by some of the locals. A decent range of drinks and a menu (which I didn't try). Some live music was on during the evening, and everyone really enjoyed it. There's a great age range using this pub and beer garden, which adds to the friendly village pub feel.Next time I'm in the area I'll be sure to stop by for another evening.

The most awful fish & chips I have ever had. I can only guess that a chef was not there that evening and things were taken from freezer and served, rubberised and luke warm, from the microwave.Dreadful.

After staying at Hollis Hills and popping into Lyme Regis we left Lyme feeling hungry as pub meal prices were a bit of a liberty! We got to the White Lion and noticed a "bookings" sign, so with trepidation we asked for a table."Yes sir, we can fit you in certainly" and we went to a table, and within moments we were re-directed to a much nicer table, a window table, near a fire which, in winter would be wonderful....but this is summer and no fire, but wow what service, what food....it was Friday and steak night!Lucky us! Presented on a platter, a lovely piece of steak, cooked how we asked for it, with a small basket of chips, with onion rings, mushrooms, peas, I also had a peppercorn sauce....We could have opted for a half bottle of wine each but chose soft drink instead. All for £21.95 in total!Lovely In's-rushed atmosphere, smiley faces and footy on TV too for those in the bar area. Now in Lyme we would get little change from £50 for that.....Highly recommend.

We ate here on two evenings, the first was "steak night"; meat was cooked perfectly. The second visit I had steak & ale pie, my husband had faggots, both very tasty; plenty of good meat in the pie and reasonably priced. The service was excellent and the landlord and staff were very friendly.

I live locally, and have seen this pub go through a succession of lack lustre landlords( which is the bad reviews on here). Richard and Kate have now taken over and breathed new life in to this lovely country pub. They have made some outside seating areas, and are in the process of sorting the courtyard garden ( previously always smokers corner!). The welcome is fantastic, as is the food, and they are doing steak nights, curry nights, and other theme/ entertainment nights. They have put huge effort in to this, and have once again made this a great local country pub. They deserve to do well, and I'm sure they will. Ignore the old bad reviews, book a table ( or just go for a drink) and go along and see for yourself. (And then leave a new review!)The makings of a gem of a pub are well underway, and you won't be disappointed.

The White Lion is wonderful; it has something for everyone. Great food, reasonably priced, lovely friendly atmosphere and a fantastic team lead by the owners Rich and Kate. They really are a credit to the village. There is a steak night every other Friday- delicious, served with mushrooms, tomato, Kate's homemade onion rings and the best homemade chips I’ve tasted. 'Spice and Rice' is at the pub alternate Fridays and you can get a choice of authentic gorgeous curries served with two side dishes, and all the usual extras. Friday is usually a sell out so you will need to book.Sunday lunch is very popular too, the full spread for such a good price. There is a takeaway menu too which includes Kate’s delicious homemade 12” pizzas.Rich and Kate have made so much effort to make this pub the wonderful success it has become. There is so much going on; monthly quiz nights, regular live music, themed food nights including a sell-out Greek night (marvellous with authentic Greek menu).Everyone is made so welcome – locals, visitors, tourists, children and dogs!

The first Sunday in the month is quiz night, so this month as it also coincided with evening meals on a Sunday starting, we decided to eat and exercise our brains as well.I went mad and had all three courses, which in my case consisted of deep fried Brie starter, Followed by an individual beef and ale pie baked fresh (in my case with potato topping as I cannot stand puff pastry topping) and fresh veg. Finally finished with sticky toffee pud.Washed down with Palmers IPA.As to the quiz, well "the questions did not fit many of my answers" if you see what I mean.A fine evening, good food (as usual), a quiz of wide ranging questions, fine ale and friendly people.

We decided to book a table and eat here on a Thursday evening. The booking was easy and we were so very welcomed by Richard the owner upon arrival. There are a good selection of drinks and in the time that we were there, we got to know the pub and its personality. On consulting the menu we were a little disappointed to note that Steaks do not appear on it. However, it was soon explained that the pub holds themed evenings with a Steak night every other Friday. It is essential to book for that evening as its get booked up quickly! We chose a mix of some of the specials and other food from the menu and it was cooked really well, absolutely delicious and very worth the money. The portions are good and the service was just fantastic. There is a really friendly but good service pub and that makes all the difference. It has a local village following which is nice and we will definitely be back again soon. Thanks for making us feel so welcome.

Group of LDWA Dorset walkers visited this pub, as our a lunch stop, on a 16 mile hike from Lambert's Castle. We received a good welcome, the staff were very friendly and excellent food was provided. If you're in this area don't forget it's not too far to walk to the impressive Lewesdon Hill with it's amazing views of the surrounding area.

There was a nice, friendly atmosphere & it was curry night which smelled delicious. There was a decent range of drinks of which I had a couple & we were thanked as we left. I look forward to visiting again the next time I'm in the area.

With Valentines being on a Sunday this year I managed to kill 2 birds with one stone (literally). We decided to stay local this year and had Sunday Lunch at The White Lion. They only do roasts on Sunday which was not a problem. It was either Pork or Chicken this week with all the trimmings.I had both (not wishing to be difficult).Meats where well cooked and of ample proportions and the veg was nicely cooked (not over cooked). We finished off with Treacle Sponge (this in single servings but a size adequate for the meal) All washed down with Palmers 200 ale.

I was stuck in local floods and sought shelter. They were able to offer overnight B&B at a reasonable cost. It was quiet and clean. There is another pub across the road and Italian restaurant next door. The full full English breakfast filled me up and there was the option of fruit and cereal too.

A welcoming and friendly pub which serves a decent range of beers and spirits, good food and a brilliant Sunday lunch roast. A rugby fans pub where internationals and rugby union premiership are regularly shown and occasionally European football. Its got a comfortable seating area long bar and booths and very easy parking. Lovely family team and they love a bit of banter and friendly chat with their customers. Highly recommended.

Very poorly equipped accommodation, cold room, bathroom very outdated. No bathmat stiff old towels, little space to put anything. It said on advert that breakfast & a coffee machine was provided. No breakfast. One old tea bag in a jar. Only packet’s of coffee no decaf. You have to go to bar & ask for milk, which then stands out all night, some sugar in a bowl with no cover & no teaspoon. Bed reasonably comfortable, but imagine if it was winter would be cold. Tv had no remote control so you had to get out of bed to turn the volume up or down. Had to ask for a key to lock the room when we went out. Also when you leave in mornings, you have to let yourself out a side door. As the pub staff are not up till later!! Not worth £100!
