White Hart Inn in West Dorset

We decided to eat at The White Hart because of a good recommendation, we haven't been disappointed, the service was exceptional, João and his staff are brilliant and very attentive, the food was delicious and very good value for money. I would recommend this pub/restaurant to anyone.

A perfect Sunday roast lunch was had. The catering was fabulous, between us we needed gluten free, vegetarian and an avid meat eater, the meal was delicious for us all. The drinks were good and delivered with a smile and the pup was welcome. This is a must if you haven't been and we will definitely go again when we next visit the area. Thank you White Hart.

I should have paid attention to my instincts when the link on Tripadvisor for the menu led to a blank page We travelled over 75 miles for a sunday lunch with my sister and her husband We arrived an hour after they opened No starters offered on the menu I don’t eat meat so decided on the sea bass, no bass left “the chef has some cod left” so I chose that, a child’s size portion was served up covered in dried herbs The desert is was so so Was it worth the drive, I don’t think so Having said that the pub is quaint and qwerky Stop for a drink yes a Sunday lunch no

Disappointing! I was looking forward to the new owners taking over, as this is a pretty pub. Unfortunately the food was very poor. The special was a beef stew served with crusty bread and vegetables but the vegetables were so raw, we couldn’t get the fork into them! The crusty bread turned up as a slice of thin white toast with no word of explanation or apology and the waitress was determined not to acknowledge any problem. Sort out a proper cook!

Sunday lunch at this delightful pub. Superb roast lunch, lovely helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, highly recommended.

Cannot make a comment on food as we didn't have anything. Last time, there was a live band (Storm). This time, there was a disco. As a group, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

Cute pub in a cute village! Found it by accident. So glad we did we had a lovely Sunday roast. I had the pork. Hubby had lamb, beef and pork! Served with a huge Yorkie, stuffing ball, roasties, red and white cabbage, carrots and lots of gravy. Absolutely delicious. Lovely polite waitress too very friendly. Thank you!

Went for Sunday lunch , wasn't good. Had roast lamb, that was ok, veg limp and tasteless, potatoes not crispy, and what's going on with the Yorkshire pudding, they were like cakes, very disappointed, especially as the reviews were good.

We were visiting Sherborne and had looked at another restaurant, but the seating was a little "obscure" We found the White Hart and we were impressed by the menu outside. Inside, it was cosy and an interesting layout. My wife enjoyed a delicious homemade Chicken and Vegetable soup. I had a fantastic freshly,hand battered Fish and Chips. I must specifically mention Daisy our waitress who's advice and cheerful service were excellent throughout. A return visit is definately on the cards !

Had taken my friend out in Sherbourne, stopped at this pub for a bite to eat on the hop. Inside is very clean with a very good atmosphere. Staff were very accomodating on such short notice guided us to a table. Prompt service when we were ready to order food, if you wish to have the most delicious Sunday Roast I strongly recommend a visit.

Had Christmas dinner with a large group, food was brilliant, cheese board to die for, service was fantastic, being the weekend there was a live band from 9pm who were really good, it was a great atmosphere, thanks guys, what a lovely pub you have .

Much needed Sunday roast (after a walk around the wonderful Sunday independent street market). Great staff and delicious roast, will definitely be back!

To the horrible lady that said my dog attacked her dog was a load of bull her dog growled at Betsy then I picked Betsy up straight away on no account did Betsy bite her dog every customer who comes in here loves Betsy who is very friendly that’s why we are a dog friend pub.I hope the person with her dog never come in here again. not once did she say to me your dog attached mine.

Visited Sherborne in the winter and really wanted pie and mash. Tried quite a few places but they were either extortionate or were serving trendy food. Came across The White Hart. Only good things came from this; The bloke behind the bar was possibly the friendliest and most helpful person I’ve ever met. Secondly, it was peaceful inside. It had cool Laurel Canyon vibes in The Snug where we were. And they not only served proper pie and mash, but the best sticky toffee pudding I’ve ever eaten. If you want something more down to earth, it’s definitely the best place in Sherborne. Still dreaming about the pudding now….

I would highly recommend the White Hart. Warm and friendly staff, the food was great and it’s down to Earth and unpretentious. Everything that I like and exactly what a pub should be. I ordered the steak pie with mash which was excellent and followed it with the best homemade sticky toffee pudding I have ever had, by a long way. If you find yourself in Sherborne and want great value then it’s well worth a visit.

My husband and I had an amazing lunch at the white hart yesterday the burger is a must we both couldn’t believe the size of it and presentation was spot on highly recommend this pub if your visiting or local to Sherborne.

Played a gig there last night. The locals were very welcoming and seemed to enjoy our music going by the amount of dancing and singing along that took place. The landlady and staff esp Tom behind the bar were friendly and we all had an enjoyable fun night. There's live music every Sat night and we are hoping to play again next year!

We visited today from Poole, there were 8 of us, staff were really lovely. Helpful, polite, food was amazing x good portion sizes, they couldn't have been more accommodating, honestly one of the nicest places I've visited in a while... beautiful desserts too

Fantastic roast, crispy potatoes, lovely fresh veg! Daniel made the perfect lager top, exactly the right amount of lager! The staff were fantastic, smiling and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you, will be back again!

Hannah and co are lovely people and made me and my partner very welcome. We had a brilliant evening, surrounded by friendly locals and watched the band 'The Helm' knock out some good rock tunes. Defo coming back. Hannah has the same name and taste in cider with my partner. We had an evening of strange coincidences!

I'm giving it a 5🌟 review as at last on owners return they have a PROPER PREMIUM lager...!!.. Kronenburg.. or however you spell it...🤔 No more local cr@p! Large carpark. Very friendly landlords and staff. Excellent outdoor seating. This pub is relaxed and accomodating. All in all... Good pub!

Expensive and lacking atmosphere

Stopped for lunch on our way to Devon. Friendly staff and tasty food. Lovely vegetable soup and best garlic bread I’ve had when eating out. Flavoursome lasagne and salad served by friendly staff. Well kept pint of beer too.

We went in for a drink during a weekend stay in Sherborne. We sat in the snug which was decorated with old rock posters and paraphernalia. Covid controls were in place. It was a nice old pub, but lacked a bit of atmosphere- perhaps some music to go with the decor. Seemed quiet for a Saturday night - perhaps because of Covid. We enjoyed our drink and would go again.

It's ok. The restaurant/café is what you'd expect, a bit drill hall/works canteen; hardly cosy. Food --- bit expensive and not special.

My family and my friends chose this restaurant because we wanted to go for a meal. We live locally and have eaten in most of the restaurants in Sherborne, so we thought we would try The White Hart. We were disappointed though I’m afraid as the food was not of a high standard. My son had sausage and mash and he said it tasted like a microwave meal. I had a falafel and spinach burger and the falafel tasted like the sole of my shoe.The other people in my party commented that their food was not great. However it is a nice cosy pub and the staff were polite but I don’t think we will go back.

Don’t mind waiting an hour for food when we turn up without a reservation on a Sunday lunchtime, but having waited I do expect food made with fresh ingredients, made with care, and containing what is on the menu.

Good basic pub restaurant food but it was quite slow coming. Although it didn't seem overly busy it took quite a while for our main courses to arrive. A nice pub and good food and facilities.

We were visiting the area and felt the need for lunch, called in to ask about gluten free food and Harriet was very helpful and knowledgeable; told us that there would be half an hour wait as they were doing two Xmas lunch parties in the main restaraunt, so we went for a wander. Back at the pub we chose a table in the bar area as we had a dog with us.Slight wait for food as the Xmas lot were taking longer than expected but not too bad, food all cooked fresh, decent sized helpings and nicely served. Large cup of coffee to finish. Quite happy, would go there again if in the area.

Took an hour for our lunchtime meals to arrive. Extremely poor quality food, no soup available, no ham. Our table of eight squashed into a corner, we felt cold and not looked after. The price point high for the below average food. For a lunchtime near Christmas the place was not remotely busy, nor festive. I’m sorry to say I would give it a miss.

Nick greeted us and showed us to a table by the radiator. Throughout our time in this pub he was exceptionally friendly and helpful. He explained it was only himself and the chef on that night but we would not have known as the food arrived in good time and was very good. He brought us water and a jug which you do not always get. I had the mushroom Risotto which was cooked just right and came with garlic bread and side salad the only complaint was the salad would have been better with a dressing. My husband had the small plate ham egg and chips and Cheesy Jalapeno nachos and we finished off with the milk and white chocolate sponge and ice creams which we shared.

Nice pub, minus the owner- rude and overbearing. Won't be returning, which is a shame, as the place has good potential.

Utterly joyless. Bar person who took our order said she wasn't feeling well. Food took nearly an hour to arrive. £9.95 for a burger - which was a soft bun with a thin flavour-less burger, bit of lettuce and about 8 huge chips. My son had the same - another nearly-ten pounds for it. I am a lone parent on a practically zero budget and this was meant to be a special treat for my son and friend in a beautiful town. Never. Ever. Again. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Got recommended this restaurant and was hoping to go for dinner but we walked in and the pub was dingy and dark and the landlady was on her phone the whole time we were there when she got off the phone I asked her for a glass of rose Zinfandel wine and she looked at me in disgust if to say your in the wrong pub if you want that, didn’t like it at all in there, so we had the 1 drink and left and the lady was still on the phone when we left and didn’t even say bye thanks for coming, we will not be back

I booked to eat & party, with my 5 girlfriends from hampshire at the White Hart on Saturday night. As there was a live band playing. Well I wish I hadn't as we had to walk out without staying to hear the band!!!The food was awful - I ordered off the specials board the pulled pork burger, what a joke that was. It was a Beef burger with a weird barbq sauce on with horrible cheese& no pulled pork. This was ordered by one of my girlfriends - she hated it as well ! The peas were cold. The mushroom risotto was glupy & tastless. However the salty gamon steak was ok.We informed the landlady (Teresa) of our disappointment in the food.she just said well, what do you want me to do about it !!!!!!! So, she took our food away & said she will just charge us for the gammon & the scampi. Her attituded just upset our evening & we left We obviously will avoid the white hart in future
