We went in for a drink during a weekend stay in Sherborne. We sat in the snug which was decorated with old rock posters and paraphernalia. Covid controls were in place. It was a nice old pub, but lacked a bit of atmosphere- perhaps some music to go with the decor. Seemed quiet for a Saturday night - perhaps because of Covid. We enjoyed our drink and would go again.

My family and my friends chose this restaurant because we wanted to go for a meal. We live locally and have eaten in most of the restaurants in Sherborne, so we thought we would try The White Hart. We were disappointed though I’m afraid as the food was not of a high standard. My son had sausage and mash and he said it tasted like a microwave meal. I had a falafel and spinach burger and the falafel tasted like the sole of my shoe. The other people in my party commented that their food was not great. However it is a nice cosy pub and the staff were polite but I don’t think we will go back.

Don’t mind waiting an hour for food when we turn up without a reservation on a Sunday lunchtime, but having waited I do expect food made with fresh ingredients, made with care, and containing what is on the menu.

We were visiting the area and felt the need for lunch, called in to ask about gluten free food and Harriet was very helpful and knowledgeable; told us that there would be half an hour wait as they were doing two Xmas lunch parties in the main restaraunt, so we went for a wander. Back at the pub we chose a table in the bar area as we had a dog with us.Slight wait for food as the Xmas lot were taking longer than expected but not too bad, food all cooked fresh, decent sized helpings and nicely served. Large cup of coffee to finish. Quite happy, would go there again if in the area.

Took an hour for our lunchtime meals to arrive. Extremely poor quality food, no soup available, no ham. Our table of eight squashed into a corner, we felt cold and not looked after. The price point high for the below average food. For a lunchtime near Christmas the place was not remotely busy, nor festive. I’m sorry to say I would give it a miss.

Nick greeted us and showed us to a table by the radiator. Throughout our time in this pub he was exceptionally friendly and helpful. He explained it was only himself and the chef on that night but we would not have known as the food arrived in good time and was very good. He brought us water and a jug which you do not always get. I had the mushroom Risotto which was cooked just right and came with garlic bread and side salad the only complaint was the salad would have been better with a dressing. My husband had the small plate ham egg and chips and Cheesy Jalapeno nachos and we finished off with the milk and white chocolate sponge and ice creams which we shared.

Utterly joyless. Bar person who took our order said she wasn't feeling well. Food took nearly an hour to arrive. £9.95 for a burger - which was a soft bun with a thin flavour-less burger, bit of lettuce and about 8 huge chips. My son had the same - another nearly-ten pounds for it. I am a lone parent on a practically zero budget and this was meant to be a special treat for my son and friend in a beautiful town. Never. Ever. Again. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I booked to eat & party, with my 5 girlfriends from hampshire at the White Hart on Saturday night. As there was a live band playing. Well I wish I hadn't as we had to walk out without staying to hear the band!!!The food was awful - I ordered off the specials board the pulled pork burger, what a joke that was. It was a Beef burger with a weird barbq sauce on with horrible cheese& no pulled pork. This was ordered by one of my girlfriends - she hated it as well ! The peas were cold. The mushroom risotto was glupy & tastless. However the salty gamon steak was ok.We informed the landlady (Teresa) of our disappointment in the food.she just said well, what do you want me to do about it !!!!!!! So, she took our food away & said she will just charge us for the gammon & the scampi. Her attituded just upset our evening & we left We obviously will avoid the white hart in future

My wife and I had dinner here this evening and were not disappointed! The historic pub oozes oldy worldy charm - I had to duck my head as I went from room to room. I started with firey chicken wings and had salmon fillet on a bed of rice with pepper and mango sauce for my main. My wife had the gammon and chips and said it was the best she's ever had. I wanted Irish coffee afterwards but she said she doesn't keep cream. She did the best she could: a large coffee cup with brandy (I could have had whisky) in the bottom and a carafe of coffee. It wasn't exactly what I wanted but it served its purpose. The waitresses were friendly and attentive. The prices were very good. I definitely recommend this place!

I chose what sounded like a delicious dish A feta, tomato and Aubergine Suet... On the specials Board. I clarified it was in fact a suet (v) Pie. It took a long time to arrive. Over 1/2 hr, & when it did I cut in to a dry pastry, not moist as you'd expect from a Suet Pie, took a bite of the sticky contents & spat it out. The Aubergine pieces were disgusting, tough, sour & chewy, Not soft & unctuous as Aubergine should be. Next to this sorry pie were soggy tasteless carrots, peas that had, dehydrated, probably from sitting under heat lamps, & mash that was chalky, not soft or buttery. The offer of gravy, as an afterthought was not going to save the day.

I cannot thank Theresa and her staff enough for making my partners 40th birthday such a fabulous evening. There were 70 of us for a private party on a Saturday night. We asked if we could have bowl food and decided on 5 dishes served as large ‘canapés bowls’ to be brought out throughout the evening, which we preordered. The lady who answered the phone when I rang to book a table was pretty off putting; she had a very brusque manner, and didn’t sound that happy that people wanted to come for lunch and I almost changed my mind about it. However the lady who was serving more than made up for the rather unwelcome telephone conversation and was lovely to us and to other tables. The food took a bit of time to come out but it was very tasty (Sunday roast) and was piping hot. There was live music playing; great instrumentalist but the sound was over powering and could’ve been turned down a notch or two to allow for conversation not to be strained in order to be heard over the loud volume.

We went there with friends this lunchtime, they had pre-booked. Although when we arrived there were only a very few other people there the service was unacceptably slow. On going to the bar to order drinks this wasn't helped by the bar staff having to go off to get ice - this should have been done before lunchtime!. Eventually they came to take our food order, this then took far too long to arrive, our friends were on the verge of walking out. And what is it with no salt and pepper on the table so the overstretched waitress has to go off to get it, for every table as people realise there is none on the table. The waitress did her best, the chap who kept walking through acting important was a waste of space. Food was acceptable but would we go again, no which is a shame because in the past it was good.

I recently wrote a review of this pub which under the circumstances was probably unfair so I withdrew it. The day I visited with a fried neither of the licensees were on duty nor was their regular barman. We didn't even stay for a drink as the language being used by a couple of customers really upset my friend and we left. I am sure that had any of the main members of staff been on duty then they would have not tolerated this sort of behaviour. I had not been into the pub for months and was quite shocked but in the past I had been a great fan of the place. I have heard through the grapevine that due to the bad review I would not be welcome back into the place and that is fine with me. I wish the owners well and apologise if I jumped to an unfavourable conclusion.

Having visited this pub on several occasions I can very happily report it to be a thoroughly excellent establishment catering for varied demand from a quiet pint on a Tuesday to great lives music nights on the weekends. The beer is great quality and the food, I have always found to be good value and very tasty.

Having left it to the very last minute, I was relieved to find that the White Hart could fit us in on Mother's Day at short notice. We all had the roast dinner which arrived promptly, and was delicious. Food and service were both very good. We are likely to return in the future!

I am new to reviewing but I belived that a meal, no an exsperance as good as this must be shared. Me my husband and two children visted the white Hart after a trip to the abbey, we went in for a drink only but after meeting the marvellous mother and daughter landlady duo we decided to stay for diner, we had high expectations as we had seen what I can only describe as scrumptiousness delivered to the table next to us, I must say they far supast expectations, the food was magnificent and the only thing that could beat it was the service, the staff were all so friendly we felt like locals after a matter of minute. All I can say is thank you for bringing back my faith in a hearty pub meal!

Saturday lunchtime at the top of pedestrianised Sherborne High Street. We wanted a snack and not fine dining. The White Hart, like many Hall and Woodhouse properties, filled the bill. Whilst the clientele drinking at the bar were different, we had just the lunch we wanted. I hadn't eaten a fish finger, let alone such a baguette, for some decades. Curiosity overtook me. No problem at all and the outcome was fine, even though the mini-baguette seemed unlikely to have8 been baked on the premises.

Been here many times but not eaten till now. The kitchen and menu havebeen through changes anyway. My friend was treating us and was rather short changed as his asparagus risotto was a tiny portion - and he's a big man. My wife's cheese baguette was considerably more substantial, and my bangers were fine. My mate was born locally and thought it expensive, but Sherborne is like that these days (I wanted to go to the Digby Tap, but was overruled).

First of all, the White Heart was fantastic for fitting in our large party (22) at short notice due to a previously booked venue letting us down. There were place mats that also doubled up as chalk boards for the kids to draw on, and the staff were very friendly. The roast lunch options were beef, pork, and nut roast and came with a nice selection of veg and LOVELY roast potatoes. It's hard to describe, but It was like a proper home made roast lunch and not a mass produced Sunday pub lunch. We even got complimentary tea and coffee at the end. There's also a great selection of beers on tap, mmmmmmm badger. I would have given the white heart 5 stars, I deducted 1 star due to tired decor. I understand that refurbishing a pub is extremely expensive, but the carpets and walls have seen better days.

A great pub in the Main Street of Sherborne. And it has Badger ales on draught. Lovely friendly atmosphere inside. The draught Badger ales are superb. They have a good mix of rooms, both formal and informal, to sit and enjoy a drink. And did I mention the Badger ales???
