San Telmo in West Dorset

The food and service is fine. But what an atmosphere! They act like they don't want you in their shop. Particularly the middle aged women. Miserable, rude and abrupt. I actually resented giving them my money, just as they obviously resented serving me. From now on I shall go elsewhere to a fish and chip shop that actually want my custom!

Breaded Pea Fritters. Homemade Curry sauce.

Their fried chips with sprinkled cheese was delicious as a snack.

Fish cooked fresh to order when we arrived, ready in about 10 mins. Huge portions and delicious batter.

Very disappointed!! Do love the place but tonight not so good. Fish was lovely but the chips were like eating a packet of crisps!!! Crunchy no potato as such. And ordered a large chips and got a child's portion by the look of it!! But that was probably a blessing!!!

If God is real, this is what was served at The Last Supper, these chips are not just beautiful, they taste amazing as well, staff are great and very friendly, you will find it hard to find a better chip shop. Sam I live right round the corner! Xx

Honestly quite gutted after years of this being the best chip shop around we drobe from Bournemouth Saturday We ordered the footlongs in baguettes and what we got was definitely not a baguette but a nasty cheap white soft pre slice roll was horrible...didn't even for half the sausage never mind anything else Wasn't worth the £5 was fairground quality at best. Of this is going to be the new standards I don't think we will be returning

Non greasy food and shop didn't smell of burnt oil

Very disappointed was advertised as being open soon when I looked at 4pm New Year’s Eve. Drove there to find it closed! Looked on their site again which said it was open! Also said closing soon 🕘 nine pm, however this was at 7.30pm. I can only guess the shop did not in fact open at all! Please in future keep your site informed up to date if you’re using it to advertise to save customers disappointment. Thank you

Utterly charming man on the phone! We already knew that this is the best chippy in Dorch... but i was able to phone from another country and order fish and chips for my favourite people, for collection, PLUS gift vouchers to cash in whenever they fancy. Now there's a gift that keeps on giving!!! He really took the time to make sure everything was perfect. Thank you San Telmo! Cod and chips galore! Better than other chippies in town, with better value for money and better service.

Best fish and chips I've had in a while

Some of the best Cod the South West has to offer, and the Chicken Nuggets are delicious.

Just had the best Cod and chips for years at this small fish and chip shop. Quick and friendly service. Beautiful white cod with a tasty crunchy batter, excellent chips and finished off with a Pineapple fritter. Very reasonable prices and lots of choice on the menu.

I got a large cod and large chips for £8.50 IIRC. I work on the assumption that my wife will eat some of mine, (even though she "doesn't want fish and chips") True to form, I lost a good chunk of my dinner and it was still adequate for me. Tasty, well cooked, decent, but not huge portions. Still good value for money though. Highly recommended.

The best chips in Dorchester by far! Whenever we go the the shopkeeper knows exactly our order by our faces. The chips are perfectly cooked and have just the right amount of salt and vinegar. We used to go there as a treat but now we go there regularly because we like it so much

All round cracking fish and chips....and we're not easily pleased. They were really tasty and double-wrapped too so were still nice and hot when we got home. Have recommended them to other friends in the area.

Generally very good food and service. Unfortunately today bank holiday very different . Got told you haven’t got a mask on GET OUT I’m not serving you. This was very rude customers should and could of been spoken too in a polite and not a rude manner. If customers generally forget or are exempt from masks this approach to a customer is very rude and unprofessional way. The assistant seemed to be very stressed with the amount of orders that she already had but no excuse for this way to communicate to customers.

Very slow service, nice food. We were disappointed that we queued for 20 minutes along the road and the queue didn’t seem to be moving very quickly. When I got into the shop they were taking and wrapping telephone orders before the people in the large queue. They need to sort a different system!

The San Telmo use to be the best chips in Dorchester back 25 years ago. Today I thought I'd have a treat. But my treat was not a treat at all. The chips are not cooked well and the amount of oil on the chips is crazy. I also asked for salt and vinegar and I got none. I feel 1 star is more than what it deserves. I am very disappointed in my food.

Stopped off to get some lunch on way home from hospital appt during this second lock down. Amazing fish and chips. Well cooked and really hot. Would definitely call in again when in the area. Lucky locals!!

I'm not sure if this place has been took over lately, but I can't believe the other reviews. We had Fish and chips and was the best we ever had. Also chicken burgers, pea frilters and onions rings. I personally think the onions rings are the best I had anywhere. We also ordered three lots of chips, but the amount could have feed 500. Very nice meal, try it for yourself. We was not disappointed

Very nice, however wish they put on more salt and vinegar.

Had haddock and chips, plaice and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. Batter was a little bit too thick on the place, but haddock was lovely with the skin on. Had to wait 15 mins for them to be cooked but wasn't an issue. Fair price for haddock as well for the area. Would recommend.

Pea fritter used to taste of mushy peas, now bland. Cod dry & unpalatable at the ends. Batter dense use to be light crispy & fluffy. What is going on?

First time using as just moved into the area...was very very nice!! Nothing too much trouble regardless of the current climate. Will deffo be back again!

Amazing fish and chips as always

Called here for the 1st time on Friday 7 August for cod and chips and whilst the freshly cooked fish was fantastic I am afraid the Meal was ruined by the chips Old stale dry and hard Would go again but will check the chips before leaving
