We're new to the area and trying out some of the local pubs. Really friendly and efficient service. We were really after a sandwich but they weren't on the menu, but the lady said if we weren't that hungry, why not choose a starter, which we did. Really delicious food and fabulous chips. Lovely village setting too. We'll definitely be back!

Took some friends here for Sunday lunch and really wished we'd gone elsewhere. The first mistake was getting my friend's drink wrong (perhaps that should have given us a clue). The cost of this was not removed from the final bill unfortunately. 3 of us asked for roast beef and when it came, the nicest part of the entire meal was the Yorkshire pudding and the carrots. The stingy 2 small slices of beef were barely cooked and chewy, the roast potatoes were anaemic looking and the food was only just warm enough to eat. We weren't offered any condiments, ie horseradish and at no time did a member of staff approach to ask us how our meals were (probably for good reason). We realised once we'd started eating that our napkins were in fact folded t-towels which initially caused amusement. For dessert, I ordered Eton Mess and was presented with the strangest concoction I've ever been given disguised as Eton Mess. It was a sundae glass full of cream with some quartered strawberries thrown in for good measure and a few teeny tiny chips of meringue. We finished our food, paid the bill and left swiftly, without leaving a tip. Should we have complained at the time? Probably.....but by that point we'd really had enough and just wanted to leave, feeling thorough deflated and disappointed as we'd only heard good things about The Greyhound. To sum up: overpriced, poor quality and poor service. We will not be back.

Last night's Taster Menu evening at The Greyhound couldn't have been better. Four courses of fantastic food, beautifully cooked and presented, paired with a different Argentian wine with each course. There were representatives from the wine company from Argentina and the UK and from Book and Bottle Cheese Company, who provided the last course. It was very interesting talking to them and learning about what we eating and drinking. The serving staff were excellent too. All in all a wonderful evening! Let's hope there will be another Taster Menu evening in the future. Definitely a 10 out 10! Thank you to the team at The Greyhound.

We had a superb overnight stay in this lovely pub / restaurant sited in a beautiful Dorset village. We were made very welcome from our arrival and received friendly and attentive service from Thea and the team. We enjoyed a lovely dinner on a balmy evening sitting under the luxuriant grape vines. Faultless food from a well chosen menu cooked by the chef patron. A surprise bonus at the end of the evening was a lively performance from a local team of Morris Dancers, much enjoyed by a good crowd of customers locals and visitors.

We’ve stopped here several times over the years, often en route to the West Country or local walks. On the occasions our dog has accompanied us, we’ve always been made just as welcome and received excellent service. We love the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We had possibly one of our best ever lunches today, picking the special - perfectly cooked hake on a bed of kale and celeriac purée with kohlrabi. Mouthwatering.

The Greyhound in Dorset has been a favoured spot for us on previous visits, so we decided to return twice during our recent trip. Our experiences were a mix of delightful and slightly disappointing, highlighting the variability in dining experiences. Tuesday Evening: Warm Welcome and Delicious Food On our first visit, we arrived without a reservation and were warmly welcomed by the chef himself. He not only took our drink orders but also provided menus and suggested we choose a table outside, a charming option given the pleasant weather. Upon returning to the bar to place our orders, we were greeted by a friendly barman who efficiently took our orders for the Greyhound Burger with fries and the Asparagus Tortellini with peas and leeks in a lemon sauce. Despite the restaurant being busy, our food arrived quickly and looked delicious. The burger was massive and perfectly cooked, accompanied by a fresh salad and crispy skinny fries. The Tortellini was also well-prepared, with a delightful flavour combination. Shortly after our meals were delivered, a waiter checked in to ensure everything was satisfactory. Plates were cleared promptly, and we were offered the dessert menu. We chose the Apple and Rhubarb Crumble with ice cream, which was swiftly served and utterly delicious. Wednesday Evening: A Longer Wait and Mixed Results Encouraged by our wonderful experience, we returned the next evening, this time booking a table in advance. We were welcomed by two ladies at the bar who gave us menus. After making our selections, we placed our orders for the Slow-Cooked Pork Belly with Hasselback potatoes and vegetables, and a Ribeye Steak with chips. This time, we experienced a significant wait of over 45 minutes for our meals, even though the restaurant was not overly busy upon our arrival. Several other patrons also seemed to be waiting a long time for their meals. When the food finally arrived, the Pork Belly was excellent, tender, and flavourful. The Ribeye Steak and chips were also good, but the dish lacked vegetables or a salad, and the accompanying sauces were unusual. The caper sauce was not to my taste, and the cold pot of what appeared to be salsa seemed like an odd pairing. For dessert, I chose the Eton Mess, which arrived quickly and was delightful. However, it was evident that the chef and staff were different from the previous evening, resulting in a less satisfying experience overall. Despite the inconsistency between the two evenings, The Greyhound remains a place we would consider revisiting on our next trip to Dorset. The warm hospitality, cozy atmosphere, and potential for excellent food make it worth another try. Hopefully, our next visit will be more consistent with our positive experience from the first evening.

This is our first stay at The Greyhound Inn, and my goodness me, we're so glad we chose it for our short mini-break of three days. As we made our way through the beautiful entrance, surrounded by gorgeous grapevines and stunning seating areas, both inside and out, we were welcomed by lovely professional staff. Extremely efficient and helpful at all levels, giving us all the information we needed. There is a convenient large parking area and a separate building for our B&B rooms. Our beautiful room, together with a lovely bath and shower was spot on. Excellent television with all the trimmings in the room for a highly comfortable and relaxing stay. Very nice colour scheme, comfy bed and ample storage for our clothes. Our dog, Norman, so loved walking around the beautiful village each evening and morning. Norman also enjoyed sitting and eating with us in the welcoming breakfast room, The food was seriously outstanding - it was made with love. So good that we decided to have an evening meal there too. We won't forget you all, and so looking forward to returning. Thank you Greyhound Inn, for making us feel so welcome and for giving us our much needed and relaxing break in the most serene of places. From the approach the place looks beautiful, set in a stunning Dorset village, however, that's where the positives end. There was no welcome when I entered the pub, a man in Chefs uniform stood behind the bar glued to his phone (I later found out he was the owner/owners husband) and completely oblivious to anything going on around him, I actually felt very uncomfortable and considered leaving but I was hungry. I got served after a few minutes by a barman, nice guy, ordered a drink and asked for a menu. I had a question regarding an item on the menu and the barman then turned to the Chef and relayed my question, still engrossed with his phone the Chef looked up and walked away totally ignoring the barman and myself, very embarrassing. I ordered & the main arrived after 45 minutes, the pub was not busy! The dish lacked presentation & taste (very bland) and portion size was very small (Ì was expecting more quality considering the high price) I did finish the food as I was hungry after my walk. On clearing my table the barman asked if everything was OK and I told him the food was bland and I was disappointed, he said he would pass my comments to the Chef. The Chef appeared a few minutes later & walked straight past me without any acknowledgement. The interior tired and not very clean, dusty and full of cobwebs, the bar tops were sticky. The toilets (gents) need a good clean and decorating, but above all the standard of service was below average and food quality was poor. If you want good food & ambience there are plenty of other excellent places in the area. I won't be returning.

Attended the Greyhound Sydling for a family Sunday lunch. The service was good, however, the turkey dinner was not so good. There were no starters suitable for vegetarians, and the of the four on offer two were fish based. The cheap vegetables (no pigs in blankets or sprouts at Christmas!) had been only shown the hot water! Although the turkey roll, stuffing, and roast potatoes were OK. Parsnips, carrots, cauliflour, and broccoli need cooking, even in a cauliflour cheese. Tip for the chef! The deserts were also a little odd. Advertising a fruit crumble with no crumble but musili on top, and a cheese cake deconstructed consisting of cream. In all, it's was not a good dining experience!

Very pleasant pub located in a pretty village. A warm welcome from staff and quickly seated. Enquired about the evenings specials but the member of staff seemed unsure and had to check with the kitchen. Ordered from the main menu only to be told 5 mins later that my choice was no longer available. Settled on the fish curry special and my partner on the lamb loin with spiced chick peas and spinach. The curry was very unpalatable. It consisted mainly of very firm chickpeas coated in a gelatinous, chip shop curry sauce with a few pieces of fish (not local - Hoki?) and two prawns. The chickpeas accompanying the lamb were exactly the same as in the curry. Needless to say I didn’t eat much. The staff, whilst not well informed of the menu or specials, were extremely pleasant and dealt with the matter appropriately, without us having to push the issue. Bad meals happen but I applaud the member of staff for her sympathy, apology and actions.

We visited The Greyhound a couple of years ago and like a few other reviewers, we were keen to return during our holiday this September. On this occasion, we had only been at our table for a matter of minutes when the landlord (I presume) called across the bar asking me if my dog had urinated on the floor. I replied that they had been to the toilet outside before coming in. The response from the landlord was to state that one of my dogs had just done a "massive wee" on the floor. My dogs are house trained and polite company in pubs and other venues. We walked straight to our our table from the door. Surely I would have needed to stop in the bar to let my dog do the said "massive wee" (they are not big dogs and don't do massive anything)? Even if one of them did have an accident, do you not think I would have informed someone, or do you take such a dim view of your customers to assume I would not? My mother believed she heard the landlord make a disparaging comment about my dogs to one of the waiting staff. The whole unnecessary incident made me feel embarrassed and humilated in front of other diners. If we had not had such an arduous journey to get there, we would have left. I did enjoy the roast chicken but my Mum's roast beef was mostly inedible - stringy and tough. She left half of it. Also the roast potatoes appeared to be the frozen variety. On a more positive note the waiting staff were polite, attentive and were kind to my dogs; we appreciated that.

A pale shadow of what this pub once was. Under new management? I can only imagine so. Locals, we will not be returning. Served the wrong food and the wrong drinks, with little effort at an apology or an attempt to make amends. And charged the full, eye-watering price for the pleasure.

Very disappointing experience from the food to the service. The older man behind the bar was quite rude when simply asked how much longer the food might be as we had children waiting to be fed and we had already been waiting 40 mins. We were the only people in at the point. The chicken pâté left a bad after taste and the bread was hard. Although the burger was tasty it is under cooked which is not stated on the menu. The club sandwich was almost inedible due to the bacon being so under cooked and the bread being hard. We weren't made to feel welcome in a local family pub, 8 people that wouldn't return.

We were booked for two nights in the Greyhound, a nice pub in a small village reached down narrow country lanes. We asked to be moved from our first room since there was no WiFi signal, and were moved to Ted where unfortunately there was also only a feeble or no signal. The room, whilst of a good size, had only tatty junk shop furniture, a tiny tv, and a very dated bathroom. It was not serviced during our stay. The breakfast was good with many choices, and we ate one dinner in the pub which was okay but pricey for what it was. We felt for the price we paid for b and b it should have been better.

We ate here 2 or 3 years ago and returned eagerly especially having checked the website menu. But oh dear. Yes the surroundings and beautiful but the food and service just not ok. The garden as busy but not packed. A group nearby were complaining about their food but there’s always someone moaning isn’t there? We ordered the risotto which was ok a tad bland and a well done burger. Note well done. It arrived still mooing, served by a waitress who I’d watched back and forth wearing flip flops, she had tripped several times so was pleased it arrived whole. I asked for it to be cooked again. It was returned with a very crispy crust still pink in the middle. Now I know well done isn’t everyone’s choice, but it’s mine and really not hard to cook. I couldn’t eat it, the chips were ok. Very disappointing. We won’t return.

This lovely place in the middle of a quaint little Dorset village near Dorchester, is where we come to now and then for special occasions as it is a bit of a journey from the outskirts of Bournemouth. That said we have always enjoyed our meals even though today we had to content with the road from Grimstone being shut and having to go up the A37 to the other turn off. This way gives you great views of the countryside with no houses in sight. We were welcomed on arrival and ordered drinks which soon came. Being 4 of us, 2 had the lovely rich pate while the other 2 had pulled pork teriyake style which was great, a bit spicy. For mains 2 of us had the beef stir fry which was very tasty with plenty of slightly spicy beef and noodles with veg including pat-choi. I had the Nduja Angolotti which is pasta with spicy bits of sausage inside it, with peas, burrata and sage which was lovely. The eldest member of our party braved the Moules Mariniere which she totally enjoyed, but she needed help finishing all of her nice fries. We finished with tasty lemon posset, eton mess and choc brownie, which left us very full but we managed cups of their great coffee. So a great place with a good chef and friendly staff to come back to again soon.

Very poorly equipped accommodation, cold room, bathroom very outdated. No bathmat stiff old towels, little space to put anything. It said on advert that breakfast & a coffee machine was provided. No breakfast. One old tea bag in a jar. Only packet’s of coffee no decaf. You have to go to bar & ask for milk, which then stands out all night, some sugar in a bowl with no cover & no teaspoon. Bed reasonably comfortable, but imagine if it was winter would be cold. Tv had no remote control so you had to get out of bed to turn the volume up or down. Had to ask for a key to lock the room when we went out. Also when you leave in mornings, you have to let yourself out a side door. As the pub staff are not up till later!! Not worth £100!
