This is the second stay my wife and i have made this year, so obviously we were impressed the first time. Well the second time was just as impressive. The room was perfect, the food excellent, and then the stand out, the staff. Every member of staff were totally professional and intent on making the stay memorable. This is a testament to good management and an apparent striving for the best possible outcomes and results. Brilliant, we will be back next year. K

We had a run out from Bridport with friends for a spot of lunch. It was a return visit for us and we thought our good friends would enjoy The Acorn. It is a lovely venue with attentive and knowledgeable service. Our friends were suitably impressed. We ate the Seafood Platter, Ploughman’s & Haddock and Chips - all tasty except we didn’t think the ploughman’s was quite as good as 3 years ago and, for me, the crab on the Seafood Platter was flavourless and wet. However, the desserts were spectacular; Dark Chocolate Tart and Passion Fruit Cream with Roast Figs. Wow, awesome! We drank Jurassic local hand pulled beer which is superior to anything our local brewers Palmers produce. We intend to return for dinner.

Warm welcome and fantastic front of house staff. Faultless and imaginative dishes , maybe a pound or three above the average pub price but made with great artistry and flair. Choice between pub classics and restauranty modern British dishes. Deserts were especially well presented and delicious. Good wine and cocktail list . The service was superb , the serving team wearing smart , chic black outfits that made them look like therapists in an upmarket spa . Probably a better atmosphere in the evening than at lunch but we were there on a cold wet miserable day so maybe it was down to how we felt . There are several interconnected eating areas , all good , but some more intimate than others.

Lovely meal at this comfortable and cosy country pub. Just down the lane from our hotel, the Summer Lodge (owned by the same people I believe). It was a busy evening, and service was a bit slow, but apologies were made and it was a pleasant enough wait. Efficient, personable service from a small team of servers. Beef burger and sucking pig were delicious, and a superb side dish of vegetables. Really well done. We may well be back during our few days in the village.

Went for an evening meal with my daughter. First the positive. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The ambience was lovely. However the menu was very overpriced. We ordered the pork fillet and at £25 a head is very expensive. When it came we had no complaints about the taste, but the quantity was tiny. Was expecting a lot more for the money.

Had dinner while staying at Summer Lodge. Enjoyed food so much, we returned (in favour of a 2nd meal at Summer Lodge). Friendly servers, dog-friendly. Food excellent, with some slightly unusual dishes, beautifully presented and well-prepared, as well as burger and fish & chips options. Delicious sea bass on bed of lentils, with peppers. Fish & chips delicious. Sublime vanilla cheesecake and excellent cheeseboard. Portions ideal size. Highly recommended. However, surprised to find that Acorn Inn (and Summer Lodge) are on the market.

This was a very high quality pub experience, with lovely food, extremely friendly staff and a really nice interior. From the outset the staff made us very welcome, including going out of their way to be friendly to our dog Oscar. Without asking, he was instantly provided with water, treats and lots of fuss! The service was very good, just the right level of attentiveness. My wife had a burger followed by sticky toffee pudding. I had tandoori chicken thighs followed by a superb cheese board. All were excellent. If you are a whisky lover the selection is really good, far more extensive than most pubs. They also had a great range of gins and gin cocktails. To top the evening off we had a lovely chat with a local couple who had decided they couldn’t be bothered to cook and had just popped up the road. That in itself is a good recommendation of course. The pub is part of Thomas Hardy folklore, having apparently been the inspiration for ‘The Sow & Acorn’. The interior walls are alive with interesting pictures and objects that create a very pleasant atmosphere. Highly recommended and we’ll be going back for Sunday lunch before we leave.

We paid a visit to the Acorn inn today as my mother in law had been before for coffee and was impressed. The staff were welcoming at the beginning but we felt that the food was very over priced. We had three soups, 2 coffess and 1 half a lager shandy which looked smaller than half a shandy for £34.00. The soup was very small and we had to go somewhere else for our lunch! we felt very disappointed.

Chose the Acorn after a recommendation and we were not disappointed. The pub was busy for a wet Thursday lunchtime. Service was attentive and unobtrusive. Yes you will find cheaper places to eat but if you are prepared to pay that little bit extra then you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful food, excellent service and a friendly informal atmosphere in the bar. We had the pork and crackling Sunday lunch, carrots and parsnips were amazing as was all the veg and the red cabbage was the best I have tasted. The beef was also excellent. I can’t have onions because of a food intolerance, we rang ahead and when we got to the restaurant they remembered; I had special gravy no onions. I was very happy. Desserts the dark chocolate panna cotta and cheesecake. Smaller portion than I had expected but absolutely delicious.wines gins and beers excellent and amazing service. Had wonderful lunch on a cool November day with my father, warmed up by a nice fire, great food and walked out a lot heavier than when I came in. The booking system online was easy, and when we arrived for an early lunch the fire was already lit and the atmosphere and service friendly and efficient. I hadn't expected to smash back 3 courses but these were polished off with ease, with the star being all three courses. The rabbit and leek lasagna was so tasty and light, and I plumped for the cod main course with a light south east-Asian influenced curry which was the best dish I have had in 2021 (and I eat a lot of food). Desserts which are made by the pastry chef were spot on, not being too sweet and heavy. The beer was good and will be back at some point for a roast or an evening meal followed by a walk through the village. Full marks, simply excellent and especially at the price.

Good Pub Guide Dining pub of the year, we were looking forward to going. Nice welcome, staff very friendly, food was a bit hit and miss. Rabbit starter ok, Soufflé starter and mackerel fine. Trio of pork dish was weird, cheek, loin, and belly.well cooked, Rosti had an odd flavour, was under seasoned, charred hispi cabbage was ridiculous, quarter of a cabbage, charred or blowtorched, was hard and inedible, has the chef ever tried this dish? 2 puddings, sticky toffee was fine, chocolate soufflé overcooked and dry, taken off the bill. It was very easy to understand the information signs and find our way to a table. Everything was spotless, from the room, the seating, table and cutlery. We ordered a simple lunch of sandwiches and a ploughman’s lunch. One of the party was gluten free and another was a vegetarian. The sandwiches were delicious with fabulous local fresh bread. My friend said he couldn’t believe it was gluten free. We also loved the chutney and would have happily have purchased a jar if one was for sale. The environment felt very safe, with space between the tables. The toilets and outdoor areas were also scrupulously clean. We were drawn to this pub by the Thomas Hardy connection (mentioned in Tess of the D'Urbevilles) and in search of quick supper on the way home after a day exploring some of the delights of Dorset. We ordered two pub classics, fish, chips and mushy peas and a burger. Both made with locally sourced ingredients and were delicious. Service was also friendly and efficient. Highly recommended, we will be back!

when you stay in Evershot, you have a choice to eat here or in Summer Lodge. We had eaten in Summer Lodge on the Friday night so came here for Saturday. It was delicious. The food was just fabulous and presented beautifully. It was nice to have a drink at the bar first and feel like we were in a pub - before going through to the restaurant for dinner. We went a la carte and also went for the wines suggested for each course. Just fabulous and, again, wonderful staff that really looked after us and made everyone feel special. Just lovely and thoroughly enjoyable

We visited the Acorn restaurant for a light lunch and chose the very fancy sounding home made soup with delicious fresh crusty bread from the local bakery When we got it it was a half bowl of watery tasteless soup and the bread was completely stale . We complained and said the bread was stale and their reply was “Oh did you want today’s bread” They then brought some fresh bread and charged less for the soup but it was all a joke. We would never go back to a place that treats its customers so badly.

While staying at Summer Lodge we had a light lunch and a dinner here. Both were excellent and you could tell they are the same group as the hotel. The staff are obviously carefully picked and trained. The food was lovely. Interesting selection of wines. Highly recommend

Definitely a cut above most gastropubs. The beers are interesting and the food exceptional. My usual test of ham, eggs and chips was very special. The ham was delicious and carved from a proper ham; the eggs were tastily yellow; and the chips a nice variety of catering potato. The sources of the local food are written on a blackboard. It’s owned by Summer Lodge and shows its pedigree. Highly recommended.

This is an OK restaurant. It seems to be trying a bit too hard and is quite expensive (£25 for main for example). One desert just wasnt very nice - we had to return the rice pudding which was graciously replaced with the toffee pudding which was nice. So we left feeling slightly underwhelmed - £120 for the meal. Next day we went to the Royal Oak in Hardington, Somerset for Sunday lunch. £40 for the lot including two excellent deserts way better than what we got at the Acorn. Admittedly its comparing a nice location in Evershot with a straightforward local pub in Hardington. But I know where I will be going back to and it will be for the quality of the food.

Lovely pub, clearly a popular restaurant, service was very good, not rushed but just right. Good lunch time choice and the evening menu looked great, one to put on your list.

We stayed and dined here during our 2-day stay in Dorset. Breakfast included a buffet as well as a menu of local selections. Dinner was all locally sourced. It was impossible to choose from the menu, everything was so tempting. What We had included local fish, curry, duck, risotto and various starters and sides.

Such a gem! Every table was full to bursting with large parties celebrating Boxing Day yet the staff were unflustered and helpful, the food arrived on time and was absolutely delicious, especially the local pork loin. They could not have been more accommodating to our family which included 5 very young children and one dairy allergy. The setting is also wonderful, a picturesque Dorset village. All in all, brilliant, thank you.

We were staying at The George Albert but they had failed to inform us there wasn’t any restaurant food available due to Christmas parties. I had a quick look on Trip Advisor and phoned The Acorn expecting them to say they were fully booked at such short notice. However, the lady I spoke to was so very friendly and they were able to squeeze us in as long as we could get there before a large party which we were more than happy to do.

We liked the Acorn Inn and ate here while staying at its sister across the road, Summer Lodge Hotel. The food was good and service was efficient. However it did feel like we were sitting in the corridor between the reception desk and a dining room where a large group were seated the night we went. Before being seated at our table, we went into a cosy lounge with blazing log fire which was empty except for just two people in leather chairs at one end. We went to sit by the fire and were told that we couldn't because those seats were 'booked'. That's the first time I have known lounge chairs to be booked! We sat in less comfort at a side table and finished our drinks long before the fireside seats were taken. Apparently by regulars who had booked the large party in the dining room. We wondered whether maybe the tables were temporarily arranged in the 'corridor' because of that party, but there were also some fixed bench seats and tables opposite the reception desk so it seems unlikely.

Great setting in a pretty Dorset village, far too much choice on the menus, all feels bit dated and lacking any speciality. Staff had uniform of which reminded us of a dental practice, hygienist took our money which we thought was funny! It was pricy and food was average!

Having recently moved into the area we were recommended to try the pub. With hubby's birthday and my son spending a few days with us we decided to book a table. We have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of local foods and culinary skills but to our utter surprise this was absolutely 5 star.

We're new to the area and trying out some of the local pubs. Really friendly and efficient service. We were really after a sandwich but they weren't on the menu, but the lady said if we weren't that hungry, why not choose a starter, which we did. Really delicious food and fabulous chips. Lovely village setting too. We'll definitely be back!
