We were a party of 3 and visited The Red Lion for lunch on Easter Sunday. The pub looked lovely with Easter eggs hanging from the lights and a decorated Easter tree in the corner. The food was amazing and the staff lovely and so attentive. My husband had the nachos to start and they were brilliant. For the main I had the roast lamb and my elderly mother and husband had the beef and it was all cooked to perfection. We especially took note of the unusual vegetables - baked beetroot! Fabulous! The puddings were unique too and I had the vanilla and rhubarb cheesecake which again, was delicious. All in all everything about our lunch today was EGGCELLENT! Thank you Rosetta and your staff we will definitely be back x John, Belinda and Brenda from Uley

Pleasant pub with helpful service and bar staff. As a vegetarian there were a couple of choices as I eat fish, but don’t always want fish. Would have been nice to have a salad choice due to warmer weather, only one was Waldorf with chicken/stilton; maybe a veggie one with goats cheese/ Stilton or similar ? Garden area nice but some tables/ chairs needed updating or replacing.

We arrived at the time we booked and not many people there. I asked to sit at a certain table, and was told NO and we were ushered towards the side of the restaurant and were told we need to be out in 2 hours. That was our welcoming and first impression. The starters, soup and duck in pancakes weren't too bad, although the satay chicken on skewers were as dry as a bone, the chicken balls the same and the spare ribs hardly had any meat on them. Sesame toast was good and the prawn balls too, but unfortunately the mains were so disappointing. I have never eaten such poor crispy chilli beef or salt and pepper squid; it was like eating the batter with nothing on the inside, tasteless! Luckily the banana fritter made up for it a little but what a waste of money (£25 each) overall. Never again.

We were holidaying in Devon in a large party group of 28 bikers on the first leg of the journey. In advance of the weekend away we contacted the cafe to see if they could accommodate our large group. They were more than happy to support. Pre order was sent in and on arrival we paid for the food and drinks and it came out in order. Considering the size of the group, the food arrived as quick as possible. Nice friendly greeting and nice hot food to boot. Would recommend, great setting next to the canal. Only downside as we were a large group we parked in the gravel car park nearby on motorcycles, it was a bit deep in gravel, so be careful.

What a wonderful afternoon tea we have all enjoyed at Highfields garden centre, the table was laid beautifully and the food and cakes were delicious as were the lovely scones, (we needed doggy bags to take some home, ) there was a fantastic selection and all freshly made. The service was also fantastic and a special mention must go to Mary who made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble ,she was amazing. The only slight niggle is that the afternoon teas are only available on certain days and weekends so made booking tricky trying to get our large family together on the limited dates available. But definitely - definitely worth booking, it was a delicious treat and we all had a lovely time , definitely to be repeated again Thank you Highfields

Takeaway burgers. Chicken one excellent. Beef one completely over seasoned with salt and could only eat half. Chips could have been great. But half cooked. Edible yes but another 2 mins in fryer they’d have been in a different league. I know it’s a taste thing but no idea why every place is using a sweetened dough bun or brioche now adays. Would be lovely if just once you could get something in proper bread made only with flour water yeast and a pinch of salt.

Popped in for a light bite on bank holiday Monday. Straight away served with a smile and even though the main pub was full, there was plenty of space in the function room area where we sat and had a chilli chicken open ciabatta and flatbreads with hummus. Both dishes were really well presented and delicious. Would be keen to come back to try more of their offering!!

When it’s open it’s ok. Seems to be run as a hobby though because the opening times are haphazard at best. Rubbish wine choice. Only a few beers available. God knows when the CAMRA award was given. No chance now. Avoid this pub and go elsewhere.
