We were staying close by and as recommended by the cottage owner we booked Sunday lunch before we left home. It was definitely the right thing to do as it was pretty busy. We took our 2 dogs who were welcomed. The food was excellent , the staff are all very pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed the experience so much we returned on the Friday and were even more impressed with the quality of the food. This is a real hidden gem and we couldn't find anything we didn't love about it

Exceptional service even under the pressure of covering lots of tables 😁 6 stars for service!!!

A country pub in the centre of the village of Arlingham, owned by the villagers since 2013 when it was threatened with closure. We visited on Friday and Saturday evenings whilst staying at a local campsite. The place was full of locals and the atmosphere buzzing. On both evenings we ordered mains and desserts - all delicious. The phrase “you get what you pay for” is certainly true here as this is not cheap pub grub. The menu is inventive and the food is locally sourced and amazing. Rosita and her team were very attentive and friendly. We will definitely return when we are in the area again.

This review is on accommodation only. Arrived no welcome, was shown to the room by a very pleasant young girl from the bar. Room seemed OK, then after spending a penny and flushing the toilet, a very unpleasant smell, came back up, this was caused by the zaniflow, continued to flush several times, but to no avail. No coffee, tea pot had not been emptied from the last guest, dog barking at 6am in the next room. Met Sally the following day, informed her of issues, Sally said the toilet was because of the hot weather!!! And she would provide coffee. Returned from a day out, still no coffee, no clean towels, shower gells not replaced. No goodbye, told to put the key through the front door when leaving. Sorry will not be returning

Staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly. The pub is community owned and you really get a proper village vibe accompanied with an excellent menu and food that is so much better than you would usually expect from a village pub. Staff really make an effort to make your visit one to remember. A brilliant selection of local and regional independent breweries’ cask beers along with the usual keg beers. Also very dog friendly!

This was my first visit to The Red Lion and it certainly won't be my last! Plus I need to come back and try the puddings, I was too full on this occasion to give it a go. I've been really struggling to find a 'Sunday roast' that has quality in everything on the plate. I normally find the meat will be amazing but everything else sub quality. The roast at the Red Lion delivered excellence in all areas, what a treat! there was a little bit of a wait but it was a full house and I would rather wait than it be rushed & rubbish! Great service and can't wait to return :)

We have been here around half a dozen times , for evening meals and Sunday Roasts. We aren’t locals, in fact it’s a half hour drive, but we keep coming back because we love the food so much. The food is always great , but my meal last week was probably my favourite. The chef is so talented and imaginative. It’s so nice to have good home cooked food that’s also a bit different to the norm. For starters I had a goats cheese brûlée with beef tomato, followed by John Dory fish with potato gratin and asparagus. Desert was custard and basil tart , with fresh strawberries and strawberry sorbet. The staff are all friendly and well trained too, which is a bonus. Thank you!

It’s hard to believe that even after a decade, they’ve still not changed the menu to offer more than ONE vegetarian choice, which currently stands at “cabbage” + vegetables which is charged at £17. They’re excluding a whole group of people from dining which I think will become very apparent when The Passage Inn opens again and people flock there instead for choice.

An excellent village pub/restaurant owned by the villagers, managed by an excellent professional & chefed by her husband who never fail to provide great food & a warm welcome. The mostly young staff are well trained & attentive, sometimes suffering good natured abuse from a certain visitor from Wales - you know who you are Mr M. We visited the Red Lion last Friday having booked in advance. The atmosphere was fab, very friendly staff and fellow customers, it had a real community feel. There were three in our party, two had fish and chips and I had the pork belly which was beautiful, however I have to mention my dismay at the quantity of food on the plate, with about a table spoon and a half of mash, so I couldn’t really get a good taste of the garlic and spring onion mash served with the dish and for a hefty price of £25, this left me quite disappointed. The portion sizes are very poor considering what is charged, which is a real shame and kind of ruined it for us, so we paid and left still hungry!

We visited the Red Lion as the base for a 3 mile walk along the Severn on Saturday. It was a gloomy wet day and we had begun to wonder why we had come. But as we entered the pub we had a warm welcome and were shown to a nice table by a cheerful fire. By the time we had enjoyed a delicious meal we remembered why we like this place so much. A well frequented pub at the bottom of Brimscombe Hill. Modest sized car park for visitors, but a friendly welcome by the hosts. There is a convivial atmosphere inside whether you are visiting for just a drink or for food. The food menu is not very extensive, however the food is of exceptional quality. Friendly staff & worth a repeat visit if passing.
