An outstanding little venue with brilliant service and great food. The standard of food is top notch and the selection makes it really challenging to decide what to have. It won't be long until I'm back.

I don't like writing poor reviews, but always try to keep a balanced view on any experience we have, reporting the good, the bad and the ugly. We called in at Rise & Grind for coffee to take away having been for a wander on Plymouth Hoe. Long queues out of the door so took a while to get served, had to repeat 3 times that we wanted our drinks to take away (a double espresso and a cappucino) - we were told 'we'll bring the drinks over to you' so stepped outside, the princely sum of just over £6 being taken. 5 minutes passed, then 10, then at around 15 minutes our drinks came out. My double espresso barely warm and the cappucino in a very small takeaway cup (I'd guess around 200ml instead of the usual 400ml 'standard'). Before this could be queried the lady serving had bustled off somwhere, so we cut our losses and left. I'm not sure why it took so long to make 2 drinks, each espresso shot should take about 30 seconds. I appreacite it's not a 'Costa' or 'Starbucks' but quite often they have only 1 machine running and manage to make the drinks quickly and to the correct temp/size. This was poor value for money in both time and product and I'm sorry to say we won't be returning

Booked a table for breakfast the day before for 10.40am and explained that we needed to be gone by 11.30am and was told that should be fine!! We arrive on time and ordered our food at 10.45. After 30 minutes we asked when our food would arrive and they told us another 15 minutes!! We decided to stay but our breakfast’s arrived at 11.42am (3 minutes short of a hour). Not very happy as it made us late. Avoid a Saturday morning when they are busy. The plus side was that the food was good.

We decided to go here on a Saturday lunch time. After ordering our drinks the bar staff proceeded to tell us that they wouldn't be serving food until 2PM which was far too late for us. Seemed like a rip off, just wanted our money for the drinks. The manager was also sat there counting his money, this could have been done on a Monday afternoon when there aren't any customers. Won't be returning.

Interesting that there’s been a lot of interest since The Vault closed and the lease was up for grabs. A lively CBD cafe business called ‘Buddha Hut’, which started a year or so ago in Union Street then moved to lower Cornwall Street has now announced they are expanding again and have acquired the Mutley lease and will open at the beginning of November with a cafe selling lots of CBD coffee and food etc on the ground floor with the large basement given over to other CBD products.

Early Bird is a must visit when you come to Plymouth! They have the most amazing selection of bakes including brownies, blondies, brookies, cookies and so much more. Their blondies are absolutely to die for, I really recommend the biscoff as well as the cookie dough. It's such good value for money for the size of the sweet! I have also eaten in as well at their location in town and the vegan breakfast is amazing, really recommend that too. Will definitely keep visiting!

Bit sad that the big restaurant at the southern end of Mutley has closed and seems to have split into a smaller takeaway and eat in kebab and burger place with rest of the old restaurant looking to be metamorphosing into a new barber shop. But all is not lost. Soon after Christmas when we were using Colin Campbell car park we spotted the Shawarma logo sign on the back door of the 3rd or 4th shop down on the southern side of Frankfort Gate. Evidently the business continues in some form and at least deliveries are being picked up from down there.
