Poor service and food. Used to come regularly ish (once a month) over the last few years and always enjoyed our time, great service and consistently solid food. We have had a couple of very average experiences recently, but we still thought to give it another go. I’m afraid no more. Made to feel uncomfortable on arrival, below average food, Oil needed to be changed in the fryer, list goes on….. Real shame as we have good memories of The Oak, hope someone gets hold of it and puts some love back into it.

I had a delicious takeaway from here last night. Ordered online. Arrived a few minutes before meal was supposed to be ready. I saw one of the waiters outside and asked where to go to collect my meal as I had my dogs in the car. He took my details and brought my meal out to me. Excellent service. The food was also amazing. Loads of chicken in the korma, the garlic naan was delicious and the onion bhajis lovely. Would definitely recommend.

Atmosphere of the cafe was just right. Sat outside in the nice weather and music was perfect volume and the smell of the food was enticing. However, when the food arrived it was missing sauce described on menu and order was not correct. The burger was quite rubbery and not enough sauce was served on the side. Overall it was a lovely visit but food was quite overpriced for what was served.

Found this place by accident. And what a great find. Really nice warm welcome from the staff. Had a great ham seeded roll . The roll was freshly baked and the ham was delicious not the cheap stuff. My colleague had a toasted roll . I had three Eccles cakes which was delicious. . Will definitely be back

What looks like a big shed accommodating a large bar and restaurant manages to be both comfortable and industrial at the same time. Had a drink in the bar - great music - before being taken upstairs to the restaurant. The Garden Menu at £60 was the only menu on offer with a choice of main course. The beetroot and yogurt starter was aggressively peppered which overwhelmed the rather overcooked beetroot, and a pool of something green which didn't really improve matters. The next course of cured trout was more successful, firm clean tasting trout with labneh and wasabi roe - things were looking up. I opted for the Tillingham Lamb which was not a good choice. The lamb had been overcooked, shredded and reformed into a large puck shape. It was seriously under seasoned as was the potato 'terrine' - the single cavolo nero was the best thing on the plate. The two deserts were the stars of the menu - why two deserts? - especially the Panna cotta which was seriously good, lovely and silky and delicately flavoured. I declined the additional cheese course at £12.50 for one cheese - which even in these harsh times is a bit much. The service was haphazard - our waitress was very nice but some very basic training is clearly a work in progress. It is encouraging to see a business like this with a young and enthusiastic staff but the food was so hit and miss that a return visit is unlikely.

A few improvements to take on board. Three vegetarians and one meat eater. Ordered two vegetarian nut roasts and it turned out to be boiled rice with nuts and berries. The roast potatoes and parsnips were lovely, the soup my husband had was lovely and the roast beef for our friend ordered was eaten without leaving a scrap. The homemade ice cream was filled with ice crystals and could not be eaten (which was a pity as it was very tasty). For thee meals, one soup and four desserts and four non alcoholic drinks the bill came to £120. The vegetarian roasts need work. I did ask the waiter if the roast vegetables had been cooked in oil and if the gravy was vegetarian and they had to return to the kitchen to ask. Not reassuring for a veggie... All in all it was good food in a quaint restaurant. The restaurant was empty on a Sunday lunch time which I did find strange. A proper veggie roast would have been nice though. A huge plus is that it is dog friendly.
