Great pub, great staff, great food, great garden. Said it all.

Just stopped by for something to eat! What a great find! Fish ‘n’ chips was incredible! Managed to eat the lot(just about). Misses had linguine which she said was excellent! Mark was a great host and made us feel very welcome. Lovely fire burning made it very cosy!

Popped in for an evening meal. Steak very nice and nicely cooked. Very good chips. Very nice meal all round. Excellent value. Friendly efficient staff gave excellent service. Dog friendly characterful pub and restaurant.

Fantastic food beer wine and service great place to be

We had Sunday lunch here, and it was absolutely spot on. The chicken roast was the best we’ve had in ages—perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and generous portions. Service was excellent, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. The pub itself is a beautiful little country gem, full of character and a cosy atmosphere. Highly recommend for a proper Sunday roast in a great setting. Will definitely be back!

What can I say, Horse and Cart? should rename Horse and Marc! The service and food were impeccable, I recommend the mouth-watering lasagne and the sticky toffee pud! Hope to return again one day.

Really lovely pub and great food. Me and a friend traveling from London for the weekend checked it out with 2 staff members(male) being very helpful with the menus and very friendly. Great quality food and drink. Would definitely go again when down that way.

If I could score higher I would! We wanted to go out for a family meal and having been here many years ago thought we’d come back. The current owner took over earlier this year and has already cast his magic as he did with previous places he owned/managed. It’s a lovely pub and worth a visit. Whilst we received apologies for a reduced menu due to Christmas events, we were not at all disappointed by the choice. When our food arrived the portion sizes were great, presentation also, and each dish was delicious. If you’re looking for a tasty meal somewhere different than your usual haunts then look no further. We’re already planning our next visit and I think it’ll soon be a regular for us all.

Eight of us sat down to one of the best lunches we have had the pleasure to eat. We dine once a month through the year. We will be back to see Marc again real soon.

Great local pub. Well kept real ales. Harvey's, and a guest ale which changes frequently. Food is excellent. Well worth a visit

Genuinely the best rump steak I’ve ever had in my 40 year long life! And to top the staff even though it was incredibly busy when I was there made sure I was happy and recommended the perfect Red to go with the steak! I never leave reviews but I felt compelled to with this place!

Mark, the new owner and chief chef was on hand to introduce us to this warm, cozy pub. Stopped in for lunch and a quick drink, wow, what a devine meal, seared salmon risotto, one of Mark's specialties and a glass of chips white wine. We'll definately be back.

Had food and drinks here Saturday, whilst the pub was busy they were happy to serve us food as a walk-in, Steve was a delight who gave us recommendations on food and was a pleasure to talk to! It’s walkable (15 mins or so) from the Flackley Ash and I strongly recommend people check it out

Good beer and food, great to see the pub open and busy

Had an absolutely wonderful time. We were visiting friends in the area we booked in for Sunday lunch to save our hosts the hassle of cooking and I have to say we had the best time. Food and service was excellent. Everyone, even the locals made us feel so welcome. Very relaxing end to a busy few days. Would highly recommend.

Worst roast and service ever. Meat super hard and undercooked. Veg awful and not roasted at all, lice bugs on kale. When we told this to the waitress, she turned ugly, and told us to "leave and don't come back". Didn't get refund for one meal even though it was disgusting and not edible. Won't be back even if someone wanted to pay me to do it 🤢

Such a lovely place to eat and drink the food is amazing, I was sat on a table next to a couple in the garden today and they complained to the landlady about their roast dinner, before that I had seen them picking headlice out of their hair and putting it in to their roast dinner! What on earth are people thinking nowadays it's unbelievable. Please do not let their review put you off the horse and cart it's lovely and you will not be disappointed 🥰

Drinking pub rather than gastro pub

It is always a pleasure come here. After 2 months out return and taste the wonderful risotto with chorizo and scalop. Very good.

It’s rare that you walk into a pub nowadays and people are immediately not only friendly but welcoming and pleased to see you. This pub is exceptional, family run (by a terrific family with sons the parents must be very proud of) and the food is terrific. If you’re staying in Rye, there are some great places to be, but I’d make time to get over to Peasmarsh and enjoy the hospitality of the Horse and Cart. I’ve been to many pubs, but few if any beat this one.

Best cod and home made chips had for ages. Big portions too. Was a very cold day and pub fire could have been blazing a bit more but still a great country pub.

We had a fantastic meal at Horse and Cart. A beautiful traditional pub, with very helpful and friendly staff. A special thanks to the Landlord Michael, He never seems to stop working to ensure the guests have the best experience.

Had a lovely roast today, couldn’t fault it! The staff were fantastic, and even the locals were great laugh! Paddy pulls a great pint of Guinness 👌

Walked in and got a very positive response, nothing was to much trouble and all done with a smile. Lovely pint of Harvey's. Definitely be back.

Everything I've tried from the menu is spectacular! The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is arguably the best I've come across & to top it off the beer garden is beautiful. Highly recommended for food or drinks!

We stayed in a holiday cottage at the back of this lovely local pub. Had dinner in there one evening. Very warm and welcoming. Food was amazing. I had the beer battered fish and my friend had the home made fish pie. Also had the brownie and a huge cheeseplate! Everything was perfect. Hearty portions. Then had a takeaway pizza the following night, which they even brought round to us! Home made and absolutely delicious. Definitely one to stay at or stop at if you're nearby.

The staff were so kind and the food was delicious - particularly the mussels! We enjoyed it there so much that we went back the next day for the pizzas, which were also delicious.

Had an absolute banger of a meal here! Had the roast lamb and steak and ale pie, both outstanding. Serving size was generous too, big + there. The service was extremely good, all staff were kind, approachable and attentive. I highly recommend to eat here. You won’t be disappointed. Thanks very much. No tea facilities as staff member has allergy....really....coffee maker hardly any sugar milk....not great. Food over cooked quantity over quality never works. We elected to eat there would probably have been better to go out. Not a complaint just a observation

Now under new management after previous management left under a cloud. The new management are taking a sensible approach and expanding the menu gradually. Now has more of a pub vibe than before which is all to the good. The pizzas are the best I've had outside of a dedicated pizza place and the roasts are good and generously proportioned. I'll update this later in the year when the new guys have fully settled in but I can heartily reccomend.

Really delicious dinner tonight. My wife had pasta with lots of shrimp in it. I personally had the Calzone pizza. Both really delicious. Tasty and enough. Take the attractive restaurant there: a nice environment to stay, eat and drink. And if you want you can also sit at the back of the garden. Highly recommended this business!

We walked into the friendliest atmosphere that we have experienced in a village pub, probably for years! The pub owners the staff and the local villagers were extremely friendly and the service was excellent. Their pizzas are just like what you expect to get in Italy, very good food. Thanks Guys, we'll be back!

Booked for Sunday lunch, having eaten here a couple of times for weekday lunch which has always been good, despite the limited menu. Very disappointed this time. 1 roast meat option, which replaced the pie option on regular menu which we were told 'would be available when the meat ran out' (strange?) Service not very good at all today, slow and we had to go to the bar twice to ask for things which the waitress forgot to bring. Food quite overcooked, hard parsnips & potatoes and overdone tough meat. And way too expensive at £17.95. Unfortunately we will go elsewhere in the future. A shame as it is a lovely pub, with a welcoming landlord, but it did not hit the mark at all today.

Fab food at the Horse & Cart Inn 15 of us for dinner last night and the service was impeccable- I personally enjoyed the pizza. Hubby had fish & chips Yummy!

A lovely place which is dog friendly too! We stayed for just one night but would love to stay again. The dinner was delicious and the breakfast was one of the best Full English I've ever had!! The owner was so friendly and polite and it does make a difference. The room was huge and very clean with nice antique features and furniture. 10/10.

We had a really love stay here. Very welcoming clean, tidy and good accommodation. Perfect for our whistle-stop stay to Rye.

I haven't been to this pub/ restaurant for 30 years. The owners have done a fantastic job of refurbishment. As you walk in you feel welcome. The log fires were burning, nice and warm and the smell was fab. The lovely lady behind the bar ( didn't ask but I think she was an owner) was so warm and welcoming. There was 3 of us who are all on different diet's. She listened to us and adjusted to everything we wanted and even suggested some alternatives. Nothing was to much. The food came promptly and was absolutely fantastic. The service was fab. Highly recommend this place.

Great little pub seems very popular with diners and there's a variety of beverages to wash your meal down with. Staff are great and the pub supports live music although it's a tight fit. Who's to say that if you were to visit wether you might bump into local resident Mr. McCartney necking a swift one!

A very pleasant reception for our four night stay and the accommodation and meals were well prepared. The shared cold meat platter was so good we had it again the next day. No steak on the otherwise thoughtful menu, but that's just a personal desire and ya can't please 'em all! We enjoyed our stay, your helpful advice on places to visit, and our meals. Thank you!

Birthday lunch with four generations of the family. Landlord and staff were super helpful. One of our party is in a wheelchair but access via the rear patio doors was perfect. Also used the outside seating area, which was very nice. Menu was small but all the food was very well cooked and portions just right. Recommended.

One word AMAZING! Great atmosphere, fantastic service and tasty, well cooked food. And now we know they fo rooms.....we are going to return in the winter to stay for a couple of nights....Roaring log fire!!!

My partner took me here for my 69th birthday and I was very pleased with the establishment. Clean and neat, friendly landlord, good menu with not too many items on it. I had the lamb and pea pie which was really good and my partner had the Lamb curry which she enjoyed and I had a taste.. also good!. For dessert she had a crème Brule and I the American pancakes both very good. beer and coffee all good too... No complaints!

Friendly and accommodating of our big dogs! Lovely food. You don’t come across home-made bread very often but it was great with a nice selection of cheeses. Thank you for a great lunch.

So disappointing! We came here on a recommendation. Beautiful pub, great outside dining area. Staff really friendly and polite. Food...absolutely disgusting. My partner and I both went for the battered cod and chips. Came out and looked fantastic, partner got halfway into his and the middle was completely raw batter! Mine was slightly better, just a bit doughy in the middle so cut around it. Partner was so put off when they offered a replacement he declined. Childrens pizzas were really greasy. Didn't bother to stay for dessert, got the bill and made a quick exit. There less than an hour. Really expensive for a very bad experience.

Stayed for one night in a family room with our dog. Large comfortable room although built to retain heat which through no fault of the hosts made it a hot one. Fan's were provided. Good location to base for exploring the area and the downstairs pub had a great atmosphere. Very clean rooms and comfortable. Good breakfast and value for money. Perfect dog-walking options directly outside the pub.

Wasn't sure as never been here before and when we arrived there was nobody in the pub I had second thoughts but we was soon made very welcome by the girls behind the bar ... the food was excellent and good sized portions all in all a great birthday treat for my mums 84th birthday ..thank you

A fantastic pub! The landlord was really welcoming and friendly, and the beer was superb. We had a delicious portion of chips. The beer garden is lovely. Highly recommended!

We had a lovely meal here good size portions and excellent quality. The two female staff were very friendly and made sure we were happy with both courses. We will definitely come back later in our stay in the area.

Lovely homemade food great staff

Popped in here after a morning at the beach for a spot of lunch. Very friendly greeting from who I presumed was the owner. Sat at our table of choice and drinks order was taken whilst we perused the menu. Chose halloumi fries and fish and chips, both were glorious. I had a pint of his locally brewed own ale and that too was very good. Great service, nice and clean and great food and drink. What more could you ask. Looking forward to booking Sunday lunch. Thoroughly recommended.

Just spent 4 nights here. One of the best short breaks I have ever had. Theo is a great host and all the staff are very friendly and efficient. If you go, you must try the fish and chips, excellent.

Superb Sunday lunch. Best to book a table. Tender roast beef with perfectly cooked vegetables, followed by a chocolate orange cheesecake. Finished with a glass of chilled crisp chardonnay. Polite, cheerful knowledgeable staff. lovely atmosphere, nice clean pub but car park is on the small side.

We stayed in Peasmarsh for a few days and picked this place at random...must say it was excellent..Theo made us welcome and was very professional..the food was outstanding with,what seemed,a fine dining presentation. Its a shame we don't live closer..10 out of 10

We booked for dinner here on the first Saturday in May and had the best pub meal in a very long time. We had the beef pie and the fish and chips and both were absolutely delicious. Service was friendly and helpful from the minute we walked in, both from the Dutch manager and the ladies who served us. We would highly recommend this pub for anyone visiting Rye.

Theo was super welcoming and polite, also used my name which was attention to detail. Lovely property with a few rooms to book so was personal and quiet. Room was spacious and clean. Shower room again spacious and clean with supply of nice toiletries. Loving the old furniture in the room in keeping with the property style. Breakfast was well cooked and fulfilling, even for a vegetarian! Dinner menu looked good although we didn't have an opportunity to try it. All in all a lovely stay and would happily return again.

What a lovely pub, with friendly staff that really know their food (all made fresh on the premises including desserts). The landlord was also very knowledgeable of the wines, largers, pale ales etc that they supply. Garden at the back with lots of table and they are dog friendly. We will be back.
