Truly fantastic with a changing menu featuring exciting dishes and the classics. The pies are incredible and also tried an onion bahji scotch egg which was life changing. Brilliant and varied wine menu too.

I visited on Saturday with a friend and young (but large) puppy, Reggie. It was Reggie’s first visit to a pub! We had booked a table which initially was within the main dining room but without hesitation (and on my request) on a busy Saturday lunch time , too, we were relocated to a quiet corner which made managing the puppy very easy! He was treated as the third diner with his own bowl of water!! And he received a nice bit of fuss!! Staff are lovely here! Food was amazing! Despite a busy Saturday lunch time the pub had a very calm, chilled atmosphere! Will definitely be returning with the puppy!!

My husband wanted to go to this pub for sometime. We arrived and immediately had a warm welcome from the manager. The interior of the pub is lovely. The weather was sunny so sat outside in the very nice beer garden with wonderful views. My husband opted for the lamb pie and I had the beef burger. We were told it was handmade so it would take 25 minutes. When our food arrived it was so well presented and very tasty. Both of us said it was the best pub grub for ages. Too full for a pudding. The menu is not huge but good choices are on it. Highly recommend this pub please visit the lovely staff if only it was nearer to us I would make it my local.

We visited on a Tuesday evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our first visit and it will not be our last. We had a very friendly greeting and were given a nice table with views over the pub garden and the Brede valley beyond. Drinks were served quickly and our order was taken. I liked that the menu was not extensive but there were enough alternative starters, main courses and deserts. We ordered our food, our starters of blue cheese fritters and confit of duck croquettes arrived in good time and were delicious. My wife ordered the steak, which was cooked to perfection. I had the shoulder of lamb pie, which was just superb. We finished with panacotta and a chocolate ganache. It was so much nicer than going to a chain pub/restaurant which we might have done in the past, the quality of the food served was excellent, the waiter who looked after us was friendly and helpful. Over all very nice experience. I thoroughly recommended The Plough.

The menu changes frequently but the bacon and cheese (not stilton unfortunately) was delish. My friend had the miso hipo cabbage with fried rice which she said was lovely. We went veggie for dessert, dark chocolate sponge with hot butterscotch sauce and a 'dollop' of cream - delish. The service was great, attentive but not in your face. Bit pricey but I haven't eaten out in a while and I know prices have gone up. They started a 2 and 3 course lunch menu today, 2 courses £22, 3 courses £a bit more, but we ate from the menu. Plenty of parking on the side and an outside seating area with great views. Wheelchair access may be a problem as there are steps from the outside to the front door, from outside to the back door and a step in both 'unisex' loos. Not sure I like the idea of following men into a loo, I'd prefer a proper Ladies wc

Our welcome and service was first class sadly the food did not reach the same standard. My haddock with chips and mushy peas was nice and cost £18 but my wife has a £28 rib eye steak medium rare with chips and what was called a Cesar salad that consisted of 3 very small lettuce leaves and 1 crouton, the steak was chewy and gristly and not very pleasant. I do take some of the blame as I should have complained at the time but my wife asked me not to. I did expect good old home made chips but we suspect that the fries were just frozen. My granddaughter had a very small lamb leg steak on a equally small amount of pasta and cost £24, she said it was tasty but there was a large bone so there was very little meat. A bottle of Pinot Grigio priced at £28 went down well. I do not think I will be dashing back there any time soon as I did expect a better standard of food at those prices.

A very special stay at The Plough. We spent the best part of the weekend in the sunny beer garden overlooking the valley, tucking into seriously tasty snacks like the confit duck croquettes. The food is excellent—classic yet modern pub fare. Chef Lloyd Williams has crafted a stunning menu. The upstairs apartment was gorgeous, with views of bright green fields, big old oak trees, and farm life. The Plough has a great wine selection, so we bought a very delicious Burgundy to enjoy after hours. The team here goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. Our cup was well and truly full.

I cannot recommend The Plough highly enough. Looking for somewhere for lunch we came across this roadside pub a few miles outside Rye. Absolutely brilliant. Really imaginative menu, beautifully prepared and sensationally tasty dishes. We went for 4 ‘starters’ to share between 2 of us, perfect choice. Charming and attentive service sitting on the garden terrace in the sunshine. And all outstanding values - £37 including drinks, a pint of Harvey’s and a Coke. I wish we had similar in our part of SW London, East Sheen. Maybe we do but I’ve yet to find it.

A last minute booking on a dank and dreary bank holiday Monday took us to this nicely refurned pub/restaurant (is it a gastropub?) just outside Rye. The online menu was what piqued my interest - smoked gurnard cocktail, potted blue cloud cheese, baked skate wing with scallop roe butter.....mmmmm. And we were not disappointed. We shared starters of cured chalk stream trout and venison bolognaise croquettes. Oh deliciousness personified. Crispy two bite croquettes encompassing a flavour packed meaty treat. Melt in your mouth strips of trout with a crisp sourdough and some creamy creme freshy accompaniment. Back to the baked skate...the menu version, which I opted for, came with the scallop roe butter, strangely but deliciously, tomatoes all on a bed of hispi cabbage. It was superlative. And all credit to the chef, for his flexibility when my wife, fixed on her fave a of pan-fried skate with caper butter and not borlottis, obliged. Bingo...along it came precisly as requested. Both versions were probably the best skate I have eaten. And the triple cooked pink fir pots with roast garlic packed a delectable tasty punch. Thankfully there was still room for desert. Blackcurrant sorbet that was a piquant sensation of fruit flavour. And a dark chocolate terrine with blood orange ice cream and, would you believe , quinoa. Lusciously scrumptious and the quinoa was a rice crispy tribute act. The staff were knowledgeable and passionate about the food and the excellent wine list. Can't wait for an encore!

Absolutely excellent service. Attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Lovely decor and general atmosphere. Interesting and varied menu. Well kept beer. Beautifully cooked fish. Brilliant potatoes served with the fish and the triple cooked potatoes were good too. However, a side of "local greens with herb oil" was just some tenderstem broccoli - I was expecting something more. Served on a small side plate, it felt very underwhelming. The croquette starter was very nice but the presentation was lacking. The croquettes and a dollop of mayonnaise could have done with some garnish to lift the plate. The same for the maceral pate which was served with two pieces of Rye bread. I think perhaps a different bread would have been a lot nicer here than Rye bread. The pate itself served with dill oil was nice though. The hake dish, whilst perfectly cooked, could have done with a nice sauce to bring everything together. It was a decent enough meal, but my expectations were high based on the menu and unfortunately, the expectations weren't quite met. Cannot fault the service though with everyone being incredibly friendly.

I have eaten at The Plough three times over the past 6 months and it has been excellent every time. The menu is very thoughtful and different without feeling inaccessible. There is something for everyone and the options for veggies and vegans are as interesting as the rest of the menu. The pear and blue cheese salad is the best I've ever had. A great deal of effort obviously goes into the menu and the delivery of the dishes. The wine I had was great. The lunch set menu is incredibly affordable and delicious. My wife and I have had dinner in this pub many times before and enjoyed it but last night was very disappointing. The food was very average but what spoilt it was the temperature in the restaurant was miserable. We both kept our coats on throughout the meal, which isn't much fun. Apparently, there was a problem with the radiators but there were very few customers so maybe the owners decided it wasn't worth warming the place up. I would rather have stayed home with our wood-burner. Never mind.

Very strange customer service on the day we visited. We booked Sunday roast for 4 at 12:30pm. We arrived at 12:15pm. The staff told us we can’t be seated until 12:30pm, even though the restaurant was empty. She acted as if it was outrageous to show up 15min early, huffed at us and sounded annoyed. She said we can wait around until exactly 12:30pm as she was very busy in the garden even though the pub had only been open for 15 mins… She didn’t come back at 12:30pm for us and we were served by someone else who was confused why we were told to stand and wait around… When we were taken to our table we was surprised to find only two other tables in the garden. The garden was not busy. Even though she claimed that it was extremely busy to the point we could not be seated. Otherwise, food was quite good. But the hospitality was not very welcoming and in fact rather rude.

Absolutely brilliant - relaxed rural atmosphere, the menu is superb the chef clearly knows what they are doing with a lot of seasonal and local offerings. The array of nibbles ( try the anchovies they are top notch) before you even get to the starters - the ham and ashmore ( a local cheese known to local cheesehounds like us) croquettes are fabulous. The Romney marsh Lamb pie is quite simply the best tasting pie you will have ever had, and id eat the crispy cavolo nero everyday for the rest of my life it i could. The dessert and cheese of is beyond delicious, try the dark choc, hazelnut and blackberry one its divine. The staff are wonderful, friendly, relaxed, and help to ensure you have a very nice time. Visited this pub while staying near Rye, as I'd heard good things. I had the burger and my friend had the cod. I then finished with sticky toffee pudding. It was mid week and they were clearly expecting it to be quiet as only one member of staff on. But several walk-ins turned up and we did find she seemed a little stressed. Not the warmest of welcomes, but still polite and professional. Food was ok, but not quite as gourmet as the menu and prices suggest and beware, basic sides are extra. My friend said his crushed peas were cold and hard. Fries were super crispy though! Was disappointed with the sticky toffee pudding. It was light as a feather with good flavour, but no sauce! This left it a little dry, as the small scoop of ice cream wasn't enough to go with every bite. Overall I left a little disappointed. But on reflection I think mostly that was down to atmosphere. There simply was none. :(

After two very poor pub lunches in recent weeks we had preferred to eat at home but the online menus of the Plough attracted us and yesterday it was certainly third time lucky. At last we had found freshly cooked food. We chose the weekday set menu of three courses for £22. 00. which was imaginative and delicious. A refreshing gazpacho was followed by a generous juicy loin of pollock and ended with a summer fruits fool with baked oats. We were very well looked after by Ethan who ran quite a busy dining room with friendly efficiency. This weekday menu changes every Monday and we shall be looking forward to seeing what the chef is cooking each week and am sure we will be regulars from now on. Well done and many thanks to all at the Plough for giving us a new incentive to eat out!

Spent a lovely couple of hours here one evening in May. Food was lovely and the service was friendly. Not overly busy when we were there and well worth a stop if you're in the area.

Popped in for dinner whilst staying locally at Extraordinary Huts…. The food was absolutely delicious, our starters - purple smoked asparagus with whipped cod’s roe, hogget croquettes, mains - cod and chips, poached smoked haddock with bubble n squeak, poached egg and mustard dressing was just mouthwatering!!! The hogget croquettes were so good we went back for another portion the next day!! Very friendly staff, all in all a great pub! Thank you so much! We will definitely be back!

Very good food and lovely staff, the only reason a four star is the fries are not true hand cut, I cannot understand why? Also no chicken dishes? The prices are on the high side for the portions.

Had a large breakfast here today. The food was fantastic and the service was outstanding. So good to find a good place to have breakfast, especially when the coffee is also good. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is great. Go there!
