This pub serves excellent food and ale. Unfortunately it has recently become a haven for noisy motorcyclists, aged and young who think it is clever to pose, making as much noise as they can. This spoils it for other customers, who just want to sit and have a quiet relaxing time. It seems little effort is made by the management to see or understand this.

Lockdown has been challenging for all Pubs across the country but we do our best to keep the local ticking over. The Sunday lunch is always very good with portion size and quality always excellent. Thought we’d give the Fish Pie a try as had heard it was quite good. Goodness me it was brilliant. Beautiful fish, a lovely sauce, great mash with a cheese topping. Oh and don’t forget the peas. Price is fantastic and another well done to Alice and Graham. Will definitely have it again but will give the Steak & Kidney Pie a bash first as heard great things about that as well. It would be remiss of me not to plug the Scampi & Chips as that is also to die for. Stay safe.

Called in for a pint while on the way to Bodiam Castle ,definitely a locals pub which caters for visitors.Logs fires complete with armchairs ,interesting decor ,the walls are covered with a range of prints ,photos and local memorobilia.A good range of real ales are available and the food menu looks tempting. The landlady was both welcoming and pleasantly engaging ,unfortunately the landlord was on the grumpy side but he was having problems with the plumbing in one of the toilets

Sunday lunch with my family - what a gorgeous place!! Just moved to the area and this was recommended by our neighbours. We had a traditional Sunday roast, 3 lamb 1 beef and 1 pork - I can’t tell you how good the food was! So much meat (which was very tender and tasty) and all totally delicious! We followed up with a lemon cheesecake (best ever) sticky toffee pudding and custard and treacle tart and custard - huge portions and we all totally cleared our plates. Very reasonable and totally worth every penny. We shall become regulars from this day forward without any shadow of doubt! Thank you Rose & Crown for a truly lovely lunch 🙂

Daughter and I booked in for Sunday lunch. Immediately there was a warm welcome from the landlord who recommended a refreshing very low alcohol drink for me - and even gave me a free sample to see if I would like it. The food portions were huge. I had the lamb and it almost defeated me. Daughter had the roast pork and that looked good too. I liked the extra gravy boat provided alongside the main meal. If there was one disappointment - and it's only a tiny gripe - it's that I wish there had been one home made desert on the menu, because it would have knocked the bought in puddings into a cocked hat.

Very traditional country pub of the like you don't see very often these days. Appeared very well used by the local population with a very well established and hospitable landlady. Great range of well kept beers and basic food very keenly priced. Must book on Firday and Sundays guarantee a table as gets very busy.

We walked from Lordine Campsite which is just under 3 miles and took just over an hour. We were greeted by a lovely friendly girl behind the bar and had a couple of coffees. Went on to order scampi and chips and we weren’t disappointed. Huge portions and extremely reasonable prices. If you have a dog they are welcome in the pub. We will definitely go back and try their Sunday roasts.

The second time of visiting and after not being able to clear my plate the first time, had a smaller portion this time. The food was superb and I can say whatever meat you choose you will be delighted. Then there are the vegetables, today it was roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, carrots, cabbage and green beans plus yorkshire pudding and homemade gravy plus and extra gravyboat should you need it, all for the price of £9.50 Desserts are just as generous not good if you are on a diet. Lovely Grub

The most unfriendly pub I've been to in recent times. Unwelcome staff and even more unwelcome customers who obviously don't want anyone other than their 'local' friends in there. The bar man was getting upset because we ordered a large number of drinks and it was taking him more than his usual 30 seconds to pull a pint (and he made this very clear), the land lady was rude on more than one occasion and the locals actually asked our group who we were and what we were doing there. Absolute joke

Popped in as we were meeting friends, the pub was quite busy at lunch time (a good sign we thought) , we had a drink and ordered some food although my meal was fine one of the fish and chips was not cooked properly, this was relayed to the waiter who quite frankly gave a half heartedly 'sorry', the landlord then came out and said that she would have a word with her fish supplier..... Well we were surprised as we were not aware that the fish supplier had ' cooked' the fish!!!! I really felt that the complaint could have been handled so much better, even an apology by the landlady would have helped. The whole pub could also be doing with a fresh coat of paint and a good dust, sorry we won't t be going back!!

Having completed my research (somebody has to do it!) into the pubs in the area serving Sunday Lunch I can, without fear of contradiction, say that this has got to be the best. Might even have to include those in Kent I've visited.Have been a couple of times, had to go back to make sure first impressions were still good. Food is well cooked and gargantuan in size (OK a bit over the top but certainly heaped and even Ian (beefy) Botham might have trouble getting through it!). Choice of 4 meats and on the latest occasion counted 6 vegetables on the plate. Tends to get very busy, so booking advised, but staff were pleasant and efficient with not a long wait for the offerings. Overall a very welcoming hostelry

We were very lucky to have been guided to this pub by our B&B; owners. We loved the selection of beers, the owner and staff were very friendly and the locals welcomed us with genuine warmth. It simply remind us of very happy years gone by, when you could walk into a local pub and they all are happy to chat to you.

Quaint little pub with parking behind and a nice big garden with outside pub benches and parasols. We had a long wait for food but the barman was honest enough to tell us this was going to be the case. We ordered a cheddar ploughman's and homemade chicken and ham pie, portions were huge which made it terrific value. I was disappointed with the ploughman's though because the cheddar was a big slag of mild bland cheap supermarket type, I would have preferred half the amount of a mature better quality local cheddar. Also the pie although it had great chunks of meat in was lacking in sauce and some of the thicker chips were undercooked. Staff and locals are lovely and service was excellent, they just need to tweak a few things with the food.

The choice is simple - beef, lamb, pork, chicken. With trimmings. A splendid generous plateload of freshly cooked tender meat, superb roast potatoes, nice veg. Everyone gets at least one Yorkshire & there's lots of good gravy in a boat. If you have room the treacle tart is wonderfully deep & sticky, on fine pastry with quality ice cream (or custard, or cream, or what you like!). Well kept bitters (I like Harvey's). Sat at window table with sun on our backs enjoying good honest fare in a real pub with lots to look at on the walls & charming service. There is a weekday menu of sandwiches & other pub grub too - but the Sunday lunch is amazing value & on a Sunday that's definitely what you go for.

Late lunch, early dinner. Roast was excellent with crispy roast potatoes, large Yorkshires and a delicious selection of veg. Real gravy on the side. Warm Chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and cream was delicious. 🤤 Busy so staff were pushed but they were friendly and helpful. Recommended

My husband and I ate here twice in the space of a few days. Service was friendly and welcoming both times. On the first visit, our nachos and egg on toast were very nice. There’s a large variety of milkshakes to choose from - our White Twix and Bubblegum choices were amazing! Would love to try the iced cinnamon roll flavour. As we’d seen good reviews online, we booked a vegetarian afternoon tea. This consisted of sandwiches, quiche, mini cakes, scones and a surprise mini cheesecake towards the end. All of the sandwiches were served on seeded bread, which was an issue as I don’t eat this. Usually with afternoon tea, sandwiches come on at least two varieties of bread e.g white bread and seeded bread, so there’s something for everyone. I feel that when we booked the afternoon tea, the coffee shop should have informed us they usually make the sandwiches on seeded bread, or asked for our bread preference. With hindsight, I will specify with future afternoon teas which bread I would like to avoid this happening. They did kindly prepare additional sandwiches for me on white bread, at an extra cost. The food all tasted lovely and was very good value for money at £11 per person - we took the cakes away with us as were too full to eat everything we were presented with!

Lovely country Pub, hard to comment on the atmosphere as it was a cold wet afternoon so pretty quiet but we were looked after. Food was lovely and fresh, will be going back in Spring definitely.
