They really need to learn how to do batter that’s crispy instead of thin that ends up slimy. Also where do they get there tasteless vinegar from.

Nothing special about this place. Staff wasn't friendly at all and the food was greasy. Minimum spent by card, £10

Loved there kebab and chips and the fish is very good not greasy like some places

A great portion of chips nice fish as well also the kebab looked very nice so will try it next time, staff are very helpful the only thing I would say is the outside needs a good clean up there were cigarette butts everywhere otherwise would have been five stars.

There were different people serving from my last visit and the man cooking appeared to be learning the new system. The owner? Was very communicative. £23 for one large and one medium cod and chips is about normal, I think. The food was well cooked and interested to see if the process is more practiced next visit. They now seem to have a fair amount of Kebab business too.

Got my order wrong then became argumentative, savaloy was cold and tasted awful through most of it away....AVOID

Not very friendly.My fish smelled and was very greasy as if the fat had been turned off.I gave it to the cat who later was sick.Chips almost cold.Paid £10 for small cod and chips..Pass this place often but would never stop again

Whoever is reading this review, please be cautious using this chippy. I’ve ordered a battered sausage and chips waited 20 minutes to receive it from a chippy that’s something what is pretty standard to have ready that tells you that he hasn’t got confidence to sell his food save your money and go elsewhere.

Used to come here but then food got really bad and the chips were always soggy. In addition to this, my fish tasted bad. The cooks also were shouting and didn't seem to be treating the younger workers well. Very disappointing.

Unfortunately for me and my family, we are all extremely unwell from eating here this week. We had cod and sausage. After years of our custom, we won’t ever be eating from here again.

Saw a couple of bad reviews as we were ordering for 13 people and takeaways.However the meals were all different and all very good. Thank you. Rob Yarwood

Been.buying fish and chips from Northiam fish bar for 20+ years. Unfortunately, this year quality has been very dissapointing. Large cod amounts to same amount of fish as a medium. Won't be going back.

Have had there cod and chips four times now and they have been extremely good chips great batter on fish lovely and crispy really can recommend

I ordered large cod & chios large sausage & small chips then another small chips. When I got home the cod had no chips but had to share the 2 small portions out for the cod meal. Chios were cold and like rubber. Cod was warm.

We have had chips from northiam fish bar and every time they have been awful threw most of them away even our dog wouldn't eat them!!! We have made up our mind never to go there again my husband is never feeling good after eating from there.

Have gotten takeaway fish and chips twice from here. Each time the chips have had a really horrible taste to them, as if they are cooked in old oil. No value for money and really disappointing. Would much rather take the journey to get fish and chips from Hawkhurst.

Top dollar prices, quality ok, but customer pleasantries missing!

After a long day, a chippy dinner seemed the perfect idea. After seeing 'Kebab's' advertised in the window I knew what I wanted...Chicken Shish Kebab was the only option so I opted for a burger & chips and my wife went with cheese burger & chips. A portion of chips was being prepared and I asked the guy for no vinegar. He told me they were not my chips...fair enough. Sorry mate. When my chips were ready I wasn't even asked if I wanted salt or vinegar. No sauce option for either burger and the salad in the burger was lame. The 'large' portion of chips was like any regular sized portion I have ever ordered. They were not the best either, tasted like they had sat around a bit. The burgers were unspiring as well - think fair ground mid 90s. I was excited and hungry for the whole thing but it was a disappointment unfortunatley.

Grease, soggy, grease. Cod and chips and 2 battered sausages . How can you get that so wrong.

Update 11/11/2022: minimum card payment value is £10... they prefer cash. Original review: Going by other reviews I must have been lucky... ordered battered sausage and chips by phone and very generous portion for total of £4.60 and quality was excellent. Paid by contactless, no issues, good experience.

Just returned back to this fish shop and has vastly improved and the cod was delicious however the chips are still stuck together

I don't like giving places bad reviews, but this is honestly the worst fish and chips I've had for a while. Chips were grey and soggy, fish was flat and batter was tasteless. The only thing that was ok about this whole place was the polite staff. I spent £20 on terrible food we couldn't finish. Wish I'd gone to maccy Ds.

After checking the reviews, We were skeptical, however from the start it was fantastic! The very polite boy on the phone took our order, I have never spoken to someone so well mannered. Anyway back to the food! We ordered for 4, a variety of Scampi, Cod & Skate, everything was cooked to perfection & chip were great. Thanks!

Freshly cooked and good portions

We placed an order for 10 of us at this fish & chip shop, a little apprehensive after reading previous reviews but I have to say the food quality was very good. The fish was lovely, fresh with lovely batter and the chips were very nice. All hot and freshly prepared - everything eaten!

Worse fish and chips ever had, batter was so greasy and thick soaked in grease, completely inedible. Chips were soggy and horrid. Need to learn how to cook..so disappointing. Go to Hastings where they are amazing and much cheaper too. Not a nice experience.

As we live almost 2 miles away I phoned my order through and went to collect it, stupidly I did not check it.On ariving home we were a piece of fish short so I phoned and went back for the other piece, he only made me pay for it as they had not charged it. I wouldn't mind but the same happened to me a while ago perhaps if the people in there took their ear buds out and listened they wouldn't have this happen.

When there on a Saturday night asked for pie and chips was told it would be 10 minutes I waited for 20 minutes. The person behind the counter was very friendly I got my order but when I got home the chips were raw and pie was awful never will I go there again

When you phone in and they say it will be "ready in 10 minutes", it is a frustrating that you still have to wait 10 minutes even when you arrive 10 minutes later. Very polite guy on the till taking the orders. However, don't wish to be personal but the guy doing the cooking looks so morose. He needs to tell his face to cheer up. Perhaps he has had a tough life.... Feel sorry for him.

I have to balance some of the "excellent quality" and ”freshly cooked" I called on Friday night 6.45pm ,after a hard day at work. Ordered "Fish & Chips" the classic, and as I only live 1mile away , didn't need S&V.. when I got home 1 minute away, and started to devour the food. TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED : Chips tasted like they had been cooked hours earlier and left in the heater, tasted stail and absolutely NOT Crispy which you expect. Then moved onto the FISH, as we live within a stone's throw of the SEA and probably a million Fish suppliers ,EXPECTED the best white , flaky cod or haddock, I never mind.... The fish was , grey, medium warm, and surrounded by the WORST BATTER I have ever tasted... Spongy, tasteless, and felt SOGGY... Sorry, this is not Fish and chips how they should be, stored in the HEATED cabinet for far too long, the 10 minutes wait wasn't worth it.... Don't bother Drive into Hastings's , or have toast... Shocking.. the best thing was the woman arguing with the staff, before I ordered , and the staff were retaliating... Finally the best part was the Young Guy taking the order, calling EVERYONE , Sir, Madam... Absolutely charming.... Well done to him...

Good fish and chips but popular so there's normally a queue. With today's awareness of crowds, people wait on the forecourt outside the shop (don't eat fish and chips when it's raining :-) )

Tasty fresh chips, savaloy and curry pancake roll. Devoured in no time in the car between the 2 of us. Shame the vinegar is not very strong.

Hard work. The ignorant boss makes the very young staff look poor but believe me it is him. The food is okay.

Amazing quality food. Good size portions. Food is always piping hot. Never have to wait long either. The staff are great, always smiling and genuinely pleased to see you. Highly recommended.

Only giving three star's as the last time i had sausage and chips, the chips tasted like they was cooked in meat fat but was a good amount of chip's, plus was nice and hot. This this the chips r cold, to much vinger was put on them and taste like they've been cooked more than one's, sorry guy's but thought you'd appreciate the honesty as normal soooooooooooooooooooooo yummy, every other time 100/100. i think next the chips will be better.
