Good amount of chips per portion and enjoyed them. However the 'large' cod was quite small consisted mostly of skin and batter. The batter was almost like bread crumbs. Not what I expected. Would not visit again by choice.

We had standard cod and chips and it was good. It was prepared fresh so we enjoyed it. The service was great and very polite. I would recommend it.

Cod is falsely advertised!!!!! as it is no more than a cut off piece of fish skin with no more than a couple millimeters of unfresh fish attached to it. My friend took one bite of hers and threw the remainder in the bin. I wish I had of, as I was left feeling ill for the remainder of the evening, after eating mine - not to mention feeling completely ripped off having paid the price that chippies up and down the country charge for an actual piece of battered cod, only to recieve a piece of rotten fish skin, hidden in some form of hardened and condensed (also not fresh) batter...... by far the most disgusting serving of 'cod' I have ever ever had in my life. We were staying at the holiday park down the road last week for 5 days, and had been looking forward to treating ourselves to cod n chips for dinner on Thursday, our last nights stay. So this experience really put a dampener on our holiday, as its suppose to be a 'given' that the best place to get 'fresh' fish is at the coast. The shop was not open by the time we had to be out of our caravan at 10am Friday morning, so we were unable to come into the shop to complain personally and demand a refund, especially as the upset tummy brought on by the fish was still apparent when I had woken up on Friday morning. So to the owners of the Pelican fish & chip shop, I strongly advise that you rethink where you get your supply of cod from, because what you are currently being supplied and then serving to your customers, is not a portion of cod and it certainly isn't fresh.

Awful. The cod was so dry even the dog didn't want to eat it. £30 for 1 cod, 2 chips, 2 sausages and a chicken burger. Over priced. Had 25 minute wait so expected decent but it was awful. Chips were OK but lacked seasoning.

Returned to camber sands after 4 years for a week with the wife, only to find the best fish and chip shop "Pelican" had changed hands very disappointed 😞 a standard cod was like a gold fish in batter and chips nothing special and the outside seating area benches are rotting away....so be careful! . I'm afraid they do not know how to run the business like the previous owners which I'm sad to see them gone. We will never return to the Pelican again.

Would give it a ZERO if I could. Absolutely terrible fish batter and their price it as if it was a Michelin star restaurant, chips £3.50, sweet potato chips £4.50. It used to be a good place, with a quality fish, reasonably priced...now it is an utter rip off without any quality in return or price justification. Avoid at any costs!

Ordered with a delivery time. No food turned up with a driver stating wrong delivery address. Rang restaurant to resolve and was treated rudely and offensively to then be cut off. I paid for food that was never delivered. Avoid this place, they have no morals and will take your money with no remorse. I will never contact or eat from here again and suggest you do likewise 😉

Only had chips and they were OK apart from you don't get alot

It's an amazing chippy. Near the sea. It's got everything you'd expect and reasonable prices. The staff are lovely and very accommodating. can't fault anything I've had from here. We've been going for years and it's still good. Unlike some places in this area.

Oh my God, unless locals get different food and service, this place must survive on the once only visit, holiday trade. My two youngest grandsons had to be put to bed before I got back with the food, having waited 25 mins to order and 35 to receive order. Chicken nuggets and battered sausage were good. Fish, chips, chicken steaks and pancake roll all very poor. Will travel to Sainsburys next time.

Great quality fish and chips with lots of halal options

Told our food would be 10-12 mins. 20 mins later we got our food. Thought that was positive as it must have been cooked fresh. Awful. We drove 2 mins back to our house and the chips were terrible. So cold they'd clearly been sat there for 20 mins. Fish coated in some weird and terrible batter. Won't be using them again. Avoid.

I gave the £15.80 fish and chips to the seagulls. What a waste of money. Completely inedible.

Waited almost 20 mins for 2 sausages, chicken nuggets, pie and chips. In that time although there were about 5 other customers only 1 customer got there food. I appreciate that things were cooked to order but the wait was ridiculous. The sausages had hardly any flavour and the chips were awful. Defiantly won't be using this place again

The food was cooked fresh for everyone however it was very very slow was told about 12 mins but 20 mins later still waiting. The chips were not that nice either!

Google says open from 12, we waited over 1 hr when the shop finally opened at 4. Although next to sea, all fish are usual frozen stuff you get anywhere else. Only reason we went there was they had different fryers for fish and meat, and also all the meat served was said to be halal. Hadn't come across any place in the UK where fish and chips had to be bought separately except here.

I was expecting better from a seaside town but to be fair the food was pretty good and I'd definitely return again. Chips were lovely and a decent size portion. Cod wasn't the best in the world and a little dry but not bad to be fair. Friendly staff and convenient location. It took about 15 minutes but the food was cooked fresh so I didn't mind.

Not quite the worst fish and chips I have ever had...but pretty close. Ordered 2x cod and chips...£23...cod £8, chips £3.50. A 15 minute wait whilst cooked (we were the only ones in the shop), when opening the box at home, the fish was hidden below the chips in the box...it didn't need to try hard to hide, very small portion and lots of quite meh chips. The chips could have been the ones waiting to be thrown away (think they may have been freshly cooked)...well many were chucked anyhow. Camber is a town in decline, so in the off season, shops like this will live or die on returning custom...sorry we won't be back.

Good chip shop . Was on weekend away . fresh food cooked whilst we waited. Rock£ 7.50. Cod £9.50

The only customers in the shop on a wet and cold evening. Ordered 1 large and 1 medium Cod, a chicken and mushroom pie with 2 portions of chips. Was told it would be approximately 15 mins. We waited and expected fresh, moist cod with a nice crunchy batter and fresh cooked. Took the order back to our caravan and was absolutely discusted at what we had been given for the money we paid. The fish was dry and grey with the batter soft and like eating damp cardboard. The chips were limp and again were dry as though they had been cooked hours before we purchased them. I WOULD NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN.

Waited 20 minutes for the fish and chips. As we were some of the first people in there thought it would be nice and fresh. Unfortunately chips were stale, batter flat and soggy. Fish still had the skin on it. Premium pricing but inferior offering. Avoid as they don’t know what they are doing.

Not the best unfortunately. Ordered a small battered sausage and chips and they weren't joking when they say it's a small sausage. It was about 10cm long. Wasn't a fan of the chips either. Very dry despite being freshly cooked. The biggest surprise here were the prices. £3.50 for chips for a seaside town is more than we pay in London from much better chip shops and I can get a large battered sausage for £2.30. Not sure what the other options are in Camber but id suggest looking up alternatives before buying from here

Chios are nice but a bit pricey for what they give Also pizza was chicago town cheese and tomato I asked is it frozen pizza when ordering and was told no but was given what wqs clearly. Chicagi town frozen pizza . Price was 8.50 when they are 4.50 in shop so not the problem the problem.was the lieung from.the staff as my partner does not eat that make if pizza

We ordered 2 x medium cod and 2x mini cod and chips the cod still had skin on and 100% was not cod it tasted odd, none of the 4 of us actually ended up eating it, £30 for fish in the bin!! the mini cod and chips was absolutely tiny for the price. The chips were nice but I wouldn't waste waste my money eating there again.

We nearly never ordered from this restaurant due to reviews however we thought we would give it a go and we are so pleased with did the food was so fresh and came so hot. We will be definitely ordering from here again

Great service the guys always remember our order and with 12 people that's impressive, never missing items and kid love the pizza . They always find time to make us smile great guys .

Open are using deep fry an old chips

Fish was good, they only had cod so the options were limited. Good communication from the shopkeeper. Chips were just okay, but we very much appreciated the extra condiments for the size of our crowd!

We visited here on the 10th of July 2023 and had probably the best cod and chips ever. The chips were perfectly cooked, with the outside cooked precisely correct and the inside fluffy. The fish had perfect batter with juicy fish. Perfect! All very hot too. Very friendly owners.

If you want a deep fried fly, stale chips, watery curry sauce, bland watery savoloys and zero customer service than this is the place for you. Absolutely appalling. As soon as I opened the regular chips, there was a deep fried fly sitting on the top! Wings and all. Please avoid this place.

Large portion of chips were smaller than a normal regular. Too expensive for the quality which was below average. Disappointed

£4. 00 for large chips and personally I have had small chips, bigger than what they served and they wasn't nice. New management in the last few years and very disappointed. Used to be lovely and would have long queues , I can see why it's always empty.

Ridiculous prices for unsatisfactory food. Chips were stale and appeared to have been cooked several times over, they were so bad we couldn't finish them and binned them instead. Burgers were minimal and poor. Left us feeling sick really 😷

Complete disorder and lack of a queue with not a care in the world from the staff. No one knew where the end of the line was, and the people at the counter had already been standing there half an hour. This on an off season Friday evening at 615.

Hi. Just wanted to say thanks for the laugh tonight while waiting for our pizza to be cooked. But the rest of the food was a disappointment we was staying at Park Dean and drove straight back from collecting our food and it was stone cold, we had to put it in the microwave to warm everything up, the people that had the fish did not like and said it was horrible and it ended up in the bin. For the cost of what we paid £62 for our order I would of expected it to be hot when we got it back. Could not call you to complain as when we left you said you was closing soon and the fryer has been turned off while we was their. Have also sent you a message on Instagram but no reply.

Chips were old and cold, flavourless. Curry sauce was microwaved and watery. Only reason for 2 stars is because it’s cheap and the drinks were cold. Distinctly average.

Being the only chip shop on the strip you could do with re-vamping the place up. Would of got 5* if the place looked fresher

Lovely fish and chips, prob the best I've had for a while!

We only wanted chips but had to wait till other orders were filled. This would have been ok if someone who came in after us hadn't got their order before us. Chips were nice but a bit expensive.

My take away turned up an hour and a half after ordering, items missing drenched in oil , soggy and had to order alternative food. Not happy at all!! DO NOT ORDER

Halal fish and chip in camber sands. Fish is cooked separately to any meat dishes.. I believe all the dishes are halal as the owners are Muslim..

Edible (because we were hungry), but not at all enjoyable. Shame. They used to have lovely fish and chips, but the chips were stale and tuff. The cod didn’t even taste of fish and was ridiculously greasy! Also ordered a battered sausage. It was very tuff. Couldn’t and didn’t want to finish it. Also had a fish cake for the kids, which was ok (not that you can get that wrong!), but it was very small for the price. It was more expensive than any other chippy in the town. The shop itself looked very run down. Overall, found it to be disappointingly dry, flavourless and not at all enjoyable. Not going back and cannot recommend.

Visited this Fish Bar during the recent heatwave. Whilst it was busy, it wasn't a massive issue as we were able to wait either inside or outside. We ordered for 8 people and had to wait around 20 minutes which was more than acceptable. The food was good, freshly cooked and as reasonably priced as you can get for the only Fish bar in Camber!

Expensive prices. Slow service. Half menu is not available. Photo of a "standard" cod for £7.50 🙄 Was very busy which means they make money but shop is very old, dirty & outdated. Would not recommend.

Don't waste your time or money. I've just waited 25 minutes for 'cod' and chips. The fish definitely isn't cod and half the chips are black.

Have to be very honest it was highly disappointing, smallest ‘regular’ cod I’ve ever seen, the battered sausage was pretty much a majorly deep fried sausage minus the batter and to top it off a standard in each cost me £16.

Fish and chips was lovely, nice and fresh, batter was perfect and the chips were fried up just right. Customer service was very polite and helpful. Very good value for money too, i was stuffed but didn't feel drained after eating. Definitely coming back next time i visit the beach.

Appalling. Been going to this fish shop for years and in the past it was the go to place for fish and chips in Camber. People would queue for their food. First night of our holiday and looking forward to a nice meal. Paid £17.20 for two standard cod and a portion of chips but when we got back to caravan found two strips of dry fish, not big enough to feed a child. Ended up giving my friend both pieces to make a meal. Chips were dry and obviously been there a while. Coming from Hastings where a standard piece of fish is twice the size and a pound cheaper and tastes like fish I was disgusted with my experience. If this is what their food is like now I can't see them keeping their customers.If I could give zero stars I would.

Great fish shop, outside the main busy bit by the car park, so easier to get served and cheaper! Sat at their tables &ate with the dogs, who enjoyed their sausage! Don't get hassled by sea gulls here like you do in the places by the main car park... Recommend!

Polite helpful staff. Chips well cooked. Sausage in batter was nice just needed more batter. The chips did have the taste of the battered sausage . Shop opens at 4 but they are not prepared so have to heat fryers which I can appreciate but maybe prepare before opening? Overall I enjoyed eating the food

Used twice while we were in the area. Pizza was lovely as were the Savloys. Portions are large. Staff are polite. Plenty of seating space outside.

I would give it zero stars if I could. Worst fish and chips ever the food was old and stale and the portion sizes were so small, complete rip off. Do not go here and waste your money!

All the food is freshly cooked to order so there is a little bit of a wait, but because of this the food is nice and hot. Prices are fair and portions are good sizes. staff are friendly. Outside seating is available if you want to eat your food hot. Nice little walk if you are staying at parkdean.

Been here a few times and it started really well but I have visited twice recently and they have become overpriced, poor food quality and the wait for food (2 x standard cod and chips) at 40 minutes is extremely poor.

Wow!!!! Five stars to these fellas..fresh fish and chips cooked whilst we waited. Definitely get your money's worth..if you have a big appetite then this is the place to go.. Kebab also cooked fresh, brother ate every last bit..chilli sauce perfect. Definitely returning on next trip..

Never get fish chips in here again chips was old chips recooked all wrinkle + fish batter was hard very dark. Wife had cod chips same with her food the only good thing comes in a box. But advise don't waste your money £20 down the drain it all went in the bin

Would’ve left no star at all if possible. Terrible. The worst thing is they cooked it fresh in front of me so I can’t say it was old food. What I can say it was disgusting. Wish I’d taken a picture before throwing in outdoor bin. Chips were stale. Fish was disgusting. My guess is old, dirty oil. Avoid this place at all costs. Such a shame as you come to the sea side for good food as well as a beautiful beach and you get this. No good!

Wonderful Chippie, we fancied a late Sunday treat and this place did not disappoint, the staff and so helpful, prices are reasonable, and food is tasty, we could not ask for more.

Avoid this place! The food here is disgusting 😒 covered all in salt. Fish also covered in salt that you can't eat it. When you tell them there was not even "sorry" from them. My child has got a broken fish fingers. Very unhappy with the food and service. The owner is very unfriendly and just do a business. I can't recommend this place. Will never back here ! Paid and had nothing to eat.
