The best restaurants serving British food in Torfaen South Wales

Myself and six members of my family checked in on time, we then presented the bar staff with our seven choices of our meals and the payment for all the meals. A reasonable time later all meals were delivered except for my meal of Rump Steak. I complained straight away but still had to wait until the other members of my party had almost finished their meals before my Steak meal was served to me. I would not have ordered the Seak meal if I had known how poor it was. A small portion of steak, difficulty cutting it as it was so tough. Some of the mushrooms were smaller than the peas which were not cooked and hard. Two tiny Onion rings, however, the Chips were ok. Others in the party also complained about problems with their meal, for example, my wife had the Hunter Chicken which again was very tough to cut and correspondingly almost too hard to eat. We as a group all agreed it was a very poor visit and decided not to visit the Owl again. A pity,as we all live reasonably close to the Pub.

Just had a delightful afternoon with friends at Trios, Pontnewydd, for afternoon tea. The welcome was warm, the service was first class. We were reminded of having tea with our grandmothers because there was bone china and starched tablecloths. The finger sandwiches were very tasty, the warm scones melted in our mouths and the cakes were delicious. We drank copious cups of tea and coffee and didn’t stop talking and laughing. We will have to return to there for a spot of spoiling !

We love this place. The staff are really friendly and the food is fantastic and reasonably priced. Whenever we go anywhere else we find ourselves comparing it to The Post Room.

Going on holiday tomorrow so had Sunday lunch at the Mountain Pleasant. A stuffing ball with Yorkshire pudding is an anathema to me but it worked! A delicious meal and such good value! Both my husband and I feel that our holiday has started well!

Lovely, clean cafe with welcoming staff. Dog also made to feel welcome. Food was fab - pancake stacks were delicious. Highly recommend

Stopped at the Grazing Field Grill for some food. Had a bacon burger and some of the rosemary and sea salt fries. The burger, a beef burger with bacon, cheese and Baconaise in a brioche bun was as close to burger perfection as I’ve tasted. The quality of the meat used was exceptional. The kids had chicken nuggets, which instead of the usual fast food reconstituted chicken dust were actual chunks of chicken breast in batter. You can tell they are using good quality, locally sourced ingredients. Definitely going back, want to try what else they cook, but don’t want to miss out on another bacon burger.

Walking group had our Christmas meal here. The meal was very nice with all the trimmings and all homemade, the Christmas pudding also very nice with plenty of hot sauce, The two courses with tea and coffee included was very reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and nothing to much trouble. Would recommend their meals at anytime not just at Christmas.

I have come here as I NEED to tell others how good their cakes are. They’re by far and large, the best cakes and brownies I’ve had in Cwmbran. I’ve lived in Cwmbran all my life and this has easily been the best cakes and puddings I’ve had from a coffee shop. There’s a nice simple elegance to their cakes without being gluttonous and piling on too much. I implore people come here and try their homely abode!!!

Great service, friendly staffs and delicious food. What more could you ask for! We went on a sat morning. Lovely cute vintage decor and great selection of food on the menu. It won’t be long before we come back ：）they also do pudding club and wedding orders.

Popped in here this Saturday afternoon around 1:30pm for a meal and a drink. As I occasionally do. Today I ordered the festive lunch with beef. Food was okay although not as generous with the vegetables as in the past, beef was a touch on the chewy side and a tiny portion of gravy. I could have overlooked this as the dish was certainly adequate. I had been intending to have 3 drinks and a dessert also. HOWEVER! THE SERVICE WAS DREADFUL! A Soviet style approach from the young lady behind the bar who was also doubling as server. Not a hint of a smile or any friendliness. When she served me my meal she practically threw it at me. No eye contact and certainly no comment of any kind. A very disappointing unpleasant experience. British customer service at it's finest!

It was a snowy sunday which made the pub look proper scenic. We had booked Sunday lunch. My partner is vegan and had recommended this pub. It didn't disappoint, friendly staff, that created an atmosphere where conversations were across tables with strangers, and nort being a vegan I didn't know what to suspect but mushroom and faux bacon was delicious and no meat beef roast was mighty filling. we will certainly be going back to try more of the menu?
