Just out for a drive on a sunny Easter Sunday when we come across this pub and how lucky we were, sat in a lovely sunny beer garden watching the world go by, the pub itself was very nice inside, we didn’t have lunch however we will return for food sometime as it look so nice and everyone coming into the garden afterwards all said how nice it was, also I like it that food is served till late I think you can eat on a Sunday until 7pm, not many do that. Definitely recommend.

Stayed overnight with a couple of friends and had a great time. The rooms we had were smallish but absolutely fine. The shower was cubicle was small and there was a bit of temperature fluctuation, but plenty of hot water. Lots of nice little touches, chocolates, dressing gowns, sleep masks etc. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We ate in the orangery, a lovely oak framed room, nicely decorated. The food was excellent, good sized and delicious starters, (The filo wrapped braised cheek and the leek and brie tart). For the mains, three of us had the steak pie which was superb, lovely shortcrust pastry filled with lots of tender steak. Our other friend had the beef cheek, which was melt in the mouth tender and also delicious. There was unfortunately no chance of managing a desert although they looked lovely. All in all a very nice break. The only minus point was that our friends were in room five and had a disturbed night sleep because the cellar cooler was under their bedroom window and was running all night.

Champagne afternoon tea- £39.50, very disappointing and was a treat for my mum on our arrival in Helmsley. Tea was served using teabags although strainers on the table for loose leaf-odd! No tea menu offered to look at. Bread did not appear to be very fresh, dry. Very poor presentation overall. We left most of it although had it boxed up as a bit embarrassing, . It is a real shame as nice venue and nice staff. As a critique I would suggest looking at the Assembly rooms Norwich, much the same price for afternoon tea but completely different class and a lovely afternoon experience. Missing a trick here Feversham, you could really make your mark and perhaps up your footfall with a bit of research and revamp. Sorry to leave negative review, but had to lie to my mum about the cost as no comparison to other afternoon teas we have had and being totally British did not have heart to complain as we were the only customers in the Weathervane room at the time and young waitress very polite.

We booked a table for four,at the Black Swan 26th April p.m . We were looked after by a lovely girl called Izzy (a credit to the Black Swan). We had very nice starters, nothing special but very nicely prepared. Our mains were very nice ....except the latest craze in many pub/hotel restaurants is to charge for what they think of as an "extra" , well when I order fish and chips why do they feel that a charge of £1.00 for Tartare sauce and £1.50 for a small pot of mushy peas is ok? And why if you order one of their pies , it's an extra £2.50 for GRAVY !!. But that's ok as it's your choice but I still think it's a cheeky little ploy. What has made me write this review is the attitude of the manager when I offered some constructive criticism. The pies are advertised as being served with" chunky chips", but what they are actually served with are chip shop chips as served with the fish and chips. When I pointed this out to the manager, I was told in a very hectoring voice that the chips were "chunky", so I asked why the chips served with the fish are not advertised as" chunky", to which I was told , they are both the same thing. She would not have it, that the menu says differently. We were trying to be helpful , hoping she would perhaps speak to the kitchen about it. If the manager reads this , please try to remember that the customer is always right...even when they are wrong......(yes sir , oh thank you for your feedback, I'll talk to the kitchen about it, I hope it hasn't spoiled your evening.) The bill for 4 was £120 so not expensive but also a bit above pub grub prices (1 bottle of wine). It's a shame because The Black Swan is the nicest pub in Pickering, but please train up your restaurant manager.

Walked in & back out! Entrance was filthy & the cups that staff were using for customers, there were 3 or 4 flies landing on them. We left when seen this and told girl member of staff they need a fly zapping machine. She said she just worked there. Nothing like any other Costas we have been in. Very poor

We had a very nice lunch with a friendly service from start to finish and good food. As another reviewer had commented, too many dogs, one in particular was very vociferous throughout our lunch. The owners were oblivious. We are dog lovers and have owned them in the past but we feel that everywhere you go to eat these days dogs are almost always allowed. The Courtyard Cafe has an outside seating area which ok isn’t great when it rains but please Castle Howard consider providing a dog free zone. Thank you.

Food was nice although I didn’t pay so can’t comment on the price. The tables outside are very tired now and could do with changing. Other than that it’s a lovely break halfway through the daffodil walk and perfect for watching the birds feeding in the cafe garden.

This is a very inviting pub but had originally gone for food as the reviews said, however we was told by the lady behind the bar that they Don’t serve food. So we had a drink then left, nice staff though.

I popped in for a quick bite with my wife and grandson What a load of rubbish £19 for 3 bits of burnt bacon in small white bread warm tea and coffee a dry crumbling scone a small bottle of apple juice, never mind trying to look professional with table service and computers taking orders get the food right and you'll get customers... embarrassing never again spoilt our day.
