Shame about the WiFi not working

The sandwich toaster has been broken for over a year! Chatting with the staff about it only toasting on one side a year ago, I was amazed to hear it’s still doing it now!! “yeah, we don’t know what’s wrong with it” ……… it’s broken, my friend, after a year of it toasting only on one side they’d done nothing about it………. Pretty unimpressive Costa! Particularly considering the prices you charge.

Best Costa cappachino I've had in a long time, a decent frothy head, for a change. Friendly service as well.

Friendly staff in the cafe, and the service was always quick and efficient each time we visited during a week long trip. Coffee was always well made and nice and hot.

Visted today, rude staff didn’t even get a chance to speak to order what I wanted, got the wrong drinks. Won’t go again!!!

I have a loyalty card and have been a customer for a long time but Pickering branch needs to up its game. I bought a toasted sandwich which when it came had one slice of the two not toasted at all. I pointed it out to the assistant and the guy in charge said they could only toast one side but he would try to toast it a bit more. When he brought it back he had toasted it a bit more but the bread was still white….and the sandwich was like brick. I only ate some of it and left some. But at £4 a pop it’s not acceptable some of the sandwiches were £5 plus….surely Costa can get a toaster which toasts both side of a slice of bread? Also Costa aren’t dog friendly which is not acceptable in a rural location

Staff were super friendly and nice. Tables were clean. Drinks were top notch. Definitely worth a visit when in Pickering.

Food was excellent. When waiting for a table, we had to stand in a very narrow corridor,Ordered 3 senior citizen meals that came with Tea, but only received tea for 2. Then paid separately for our meals and they charged service charge on every one. I don't think service charge, should be added on automatically, also didnt see anything on the menu that service charge will be added. If some customers want to tip, then it's up to the customer.

Since this Costa opened it has been filthy, absolutely disgustingly filthy. Dirty windows, window sills, tables, floor and more. Makes you wonder how clean the food prep area is. I don't blame the staff, but the franchisees who are obviously understaffing the branch. Costa HQ really needs to visit.

The coffee’s great but oh dear - facilities. No check made on toilet; advised there was ‘no soap’ and two hours later, still no soap and now no toilet paper either! Come on staff… you can and should do better.

Wow I wish my local costa was like this one nice friendly staff who go the extra mile for you.. called in a few times recently after walking nice and polite great coffee what more can be said !!!

This staff are excellent, coffee is great we had a latte, piping hot, friendly and amicable people to deal with….the only drawback is that the place could do with money spent on it. As the saying sez you can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear. It is so drab the chairs and furniture have been here since I joined costas, and that’s a good many years now that we have been coming here, and we are regulars. SO GIVE IT AN UPGRADE BEGORE YOU LOSE CUSTOMERS.

I entered the coffeeshop at 16.55 and ordered two cappucini and a snack. I was answered with the information that they close at 17.00. On Google maps the information is that closing time is 18.30. On Costa's own site it is 16.00. I was not too concerned really because the places looked pretty scruffy anyway and not of the standaard I expert from a Costa location

Cafe is filthy, forgot half the order, tables had not been cleared or cleaned. Two young staff did not show any enthusiasm or pride in their job. Will not be going back

Visited early on a Sunday morning so not busy. Table not cleaned down. Internal Window ledge (adjacent to table) not cleaned down with numerous dead insects on it. Obviously had not been cleaned for “some time”. Disappointing experience

We used to frequent Costa cafes regularly. Enjoying the coffee and snacks. But recently we have been decking to enter most of the ones we come across. From the entrance door to the counter and the toilets behind they are absolutely filthy. This is not something that is only apparent at Pickering but everywhere. I don’t think they employ cleaners, and if they do then they need to cancel there contracts and find someone else.

As a local I’ve really enjoyed going to this Costa and have many years’ loyalty. It’s changed manager in the last few weeks and is the worst coffee shop experience to the point that sadly I will have to elsewhere for my daily brew: filthy floors, smell of old milk, the new lady often looks stained, lacks energy and has no evident experience in the trade as my usual flat white is now an unappealing, diluted - and very flat - brown-coloured liquid with no strength, taste or finish. No relation at all to usual Costa standard. The place has lost all energy, is drab, “bitty” and dreary. It’s extremely sad as I’d come to know the previous staff very well, who were upbeat, efficient and built good rapport. This site is doomed as it stands. And I’m gutted :(

Unfortunately this is the worst Costa I've ever been in. All the tables were dirty and didn't see any of them get cleared in the time we were there. We waited over 25 minutes for toast and two flat whites and saw people waiting longer that this just for drinks. Wouldn't have minded if the staff were rushed off their feet but who appeared to be the manager was barking orders at the poor young staff members whilst doing nothing. She shouldn't be allowed to speak to the staff in such a patronising and disrespectful manner when they were the ones running around to account for her lack of input.

Good food and coffee as always, spoiled by poor housekeeping and maintenance at this location. Upstairs toilet has been out of order now for months.

A Fantastic Costa Coffee with Amazing range of snacks and Drinks plus Friendly Staff.

Two very young people serving. We were friendly, but the whole place looked dity. Outside tables had not been cleaned so sat with stains a ND crumbs from a few previous customersCleanliness has gone out of the window. ? Untrained staff.

Popped in opted for a Frostino, wasn’t bad. Place was empty so lots of room to sit, staff a bit slow but overall if nearby and desperate for a costa, your laughing 👍🏻

Had a latte, it was a bit frothy but tasted good. It was very quiet in here and in Pickering. The shop was nice and clean. Plenty of sandwiches to choose from but not many cakes.

Took forever to get the drinks, nice coffee tho'!

This place is phenomenal, excellent service, first class staff, always get a smile and a good morning, clean and tidy, and I go in almost every day, I recommend a visit. Highly recommend.

Costa in Pickering is clean and tidy and has a smart, modern look. It was quiet when we were in, so service was pretty instant; it was also very good with the young man carrying everyone’s trays to their tables. The coffee and hot chocolate were also good, as you might expect.

I have to admit I’ve always felt like this coffee shop could do with a burst of ambience or more windows or something, it’s always felt a bit flat but I was really impressed recently with the friendliness of the staff who couldn’t have been more helpful. The impression I got is that they want to make it an nice environment and would love to be open longer, have clean tables throughout the day etc but they are chronically short staffed. To be frank I’m amazed they manage to stay so pleasant and good humoured given the pressure they must be under! Will definitely be back.

Dirty, un-hygenic, multiple flies on the cakes. Informed the staff as they had asked if we wanted to purchase a cake, they said they would sort it, not sure if they did. The tables outside weren't cleaned and the male toilets were dirty and not cleaned

Should have been cleaner. A lot cleaner. Latte was ok, but nothing more. I need to use a few more characters. Done.

Dirty, dusty with a grubby, wet floor. Lady on the till kept touching her face, hopefully not handling food. Seemed totally disinterested. Outside tables were still stacked indoors at 2pm, it’s not raining. We use Costa lots, even bring our own Costa cups. Won’t be back. Lesson learned use a local Company where the owners want the business

don't waste your time going in, go to an independent café who could really use the support of the community.

This is the worst Costa I've been in, slow service, really poor hygiene, place needs shutting down and given a deep clean..

Unable to give the right change, gave £2 worth of change in 5ps, dirty spoons and glasses, can only pay cash. Made my boyfriend very angry.

No Card payments and looking at last review hasn't been working for a while. Couldnt use my points on Costa card either as Internet not working (Can connect but very slow) but can collect them!!!! For the first time in 18 months you forced me to go over to post office (this is only place can get it as barclays cash machine hasn't worked for aged either) and get cash out to then pay with cash. On the plus side service was good and order completed quickly. If things havent been working for a while get them sorted and stop putting your staff in the firing line. Why do you need internet to use points but not to collect them?

I visited here today to buy coffees etc and wanted to use an evoucher but apparently no Internet so could not use it. But the way I was told this was by a moody assistant who shrugged her shoulders and then said you could always just go to Malton! (8 miles away) Very poor impression and that after standing 10 minutes in a queue to be served. Surely put up signage on entry so people are aware before queueing.

Slow service due to only one member of staff on duty . Cash only payments. Sandwich was supposed to be warm and we’re cold . Flys on the cakes need covering and stuck to the floor didn’t look like it had been mopped in weeks . Saving Grace coffe was ok

Card payment hasn't been working at this costa for over a week. Takeaways are already very slow at Costa overall. For a huge chain not to have sorted this problem by now is a joke.

Put milk in my coffee. I requested black. Was already on m1 before I noticed. Tasted alright but was not what I ordered.

Pretty grim place, staff not interested, slow service, dirty cutlery no atmosphere at all. Give it a miss and find a nice local coffee shop.

I was served by a young lady who is a new member of staff. Unlike some of the other existing staff she was very helpful and polite. I hope that her boss appreciates what a difference people like her make to the business.

16:30 visit to Pickering Costa (closing at 17:00) All ovens off, no ice, no cream, coffee machine in bits. Now I would usually attribute this to a busy day and being low on stock, however the fridges were full and I can only imagine the staff decided it was time to close. Other customers entered whilst I was in, only to be greeted with the same. Once again I can acknowledge that it was the last 30 minutes of service but being only able to serve the hot drink menu with service still open is poor. As for the unfortunate new staff member being transferred, both staff on this afternoon spoke loudly of their displeasure at this transfer whilst customers stood in line. It was uncomfortable as a member of the hospitality trade myself in management. Perhaps if I was the last customer of the day I would be more understanding, however this clearly not being the case, I am unfortunately inclined to write this review. Hopefully this is a blip in service, and I will pop in again in future with the hope of writing a better review of my experience.

Visited on a cold shopping day. No smile or welcome .. Struggled to find a clean table especially upstairs and my cutlery was not dirty but badly water stained ..no rinsing here No will not be returning . horrible

We entered and noticed a lot of the tables were marked as out of use. This would be ok if it was consistent across the costa brand. A lot of Costa coffee shops have all tables available to be used by customers.The issue I have is the attitude of the staff. When we were in the queue, somebody in front just passed to get something and a member of staff just launched into us demanding that we social distance with their arms flaying. This is no way to speak to customers. They could have very easily just said "Would you just mind .... " The outcome was that we left immediately.

Always great service and tasty food and drink. Plenty of milk options for people with lactose intolerance.

Well not exactly the best service. We were told we had to sit outside, Ok social distancing and reduced capacity so not a problem. The table was cleared but was clearly dirty and just left but what a poor attitude when we asked them to actually clean it ( we are in a Covid world), talk about sullen and unhappy. The table next to us actually ended up cleaning their own with antibacterial wipes. We won’t be back when you have so many local cafe’s with really friendly staff.

We love Costa and were pleased to find one in Pickering, but we were very disappointed when we had to complain about our cappuccino, the set out is not very good either and not just because of covid.

As a local I feel that the current staff need to actually smile and look happy ! I have used this costa since it opened, and slowly it has deteriorated, its dirty and the quality of service has gone down further and further. The last twice I have visited my coconut latte has made me ill. I don’t know if the milk is past it’s best or it’s the fact that it was nearly cold by the time I received it. I and my sister are regularly charged different amounts for the same drinks. They would do well to remember their locals as it will be us that they rely on in winter don’t dismiss us, be short with us, even look down your nose at us. The tourists will soon be gone and then who will buy from you? In short this is probably the worst costa I have ever been in, and that includes the foreign ones ! Gibraltar is amazing for such a small shop, come on pickering get your act together, your giving costa a bad name !

Nice drinks and snacks fast service and staff are friendly. Great for a coffee break on a day out in Pickering.

Great to be able to sit in again

Pickering costa coffee has only been made worst by staff. Becky was extremely rude and wouldn’t serve me a coffee with coconut milk even though i have a severe lactose intolerance.

We visited here after a visit to Pickering Antiques, and before exploring what Pickering has to offer. Friendly staff - not sure about going upstairs so stayed on the ground floor. Good Coffee

although our drinks and cakes were ok the state of the cafe was horrendous. every table was littered with trays of empty cups,plates etc floor was covered in litter. I was also given a dirty fork ! the door upstairs ,which had private on it, was open showing more littered trays with dirty cups etc on the floor !! will never return

No problem with the coffee or snacks, excellent as usual. However very little room downstairs, had to go upstairs, not to good for seniors.

Been in this costas loads of times, americano is excellent always just right, staff are friendly and helpful, always a pleasant visit no matter what time of day.

Myself and my two granddaughters went for hot chocolate.it was very good. Friendly staff.

We visited in November 2019, but was extremely disappointed. Staff were rude and really couldn’t be bothered with things like customers. Most stock items were not available, the restaurant was dirty (cobwebs, dirty tables, filthy floors, etc.) while YOUNG staff messed around laughing and joking. An absolutely disgrace.Took my complaint to Costa website and guess what, ignored by the chain imp,steely, despite being promised a response within 7 working days. We are finished with them now after using them twice a week for the past 10 years.poor and disappointing. Our £1,000 per year will go to their biggest competitor.

Lovely place for realaxing enjoying a drink

I'm a regular visitor to this cafe and have always found the staff to be friendly and efficient. Service is good and always with a smile. The cafe is clean and a pleasant place to relax and enjoy a coffee the food is also good and tasty.Sometimes a bit busy but worth the wait. We'll done Georgia, Courtney, Hayley and other team members.

No dogs allowed :( unlike the independent coffee shops in the area.

Im not a major fan of Costa but after 6pm in Whitby I couldnt find anywhere else serving "proper" coffee.

We didnt bother .We wre going to sit outside but there were 4 very large waste bin's all over flowing with smelly rubbish only a few feet from the table's

Like any other Costa but better. Staff were lovely but more importantly it is right by the railway so you cans see the trains come in.

Coffee good but the toilets and jugs and coffee machines looked like they needed a good clean and pots just collected on washing up bowls and placed on the windowsill near the staff

Very friendly and welcoming. This used to be a former bank and is located at the bottom of the high street. Parking is pay and display nearby.Excellent coffee and toastie.Nice and clean throughout.I have to say after visiting many Costa outlets, the staff are the best here at this location. It makes you want to visit again.

Coffees are like bath tubs. Service was ok and place is clean. Just don't dig their coffees much.
